From: Examiner.com

It's been more than a decade since KISS' last studio album. Eleven years is a decent chunk of time on most scales - but for KISS fans this has seemed an eternity.

Recent solo albums by both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley helped to ease the pain somewhat, but then also had some KISS fans wondering, 'Well, why not a new KISS album?'

When KISS announced they were to begin working on a new album excitement spread like wildfire through the KISS Army, but there were those who skeptically held the stance that they'd believe it when they saw it - or, in this case, heard it.

Well the wait, the wondering, and the disbelieving is about to come to an end on October 6. Produced by KISS' own Paul Stanley, Sonic Boom is on its way.

The most recent musical products we've had from these guys were Paul Stanley's solo release Live To Win and Gene Simmons' solo album Asshole. Stanley's was emotion, Simmons' was fun - and now with Sonic Boom those influences bond and yet include so much more.

Click to enlarge Paul Stanley On Casablanca's 35th Anniversary
From: Classic Rock Magazine

Casablanca Records, the label whose roster included KISS, Angel, Parliament, Donna Summer and The Village People, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Come inside to hear what Paul Stanley has to say about the legendary company...

Casablanca was formed in 1973 by Neil Bogart, but didn't release its first full-length album until Kiss's debut on February 18, 1974.

Speaking exclusively to Classic Rock, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley reflected on the years KISS spent as probably the most important band on Casablanca's roster.

Classic Rock: It's Casablanca's 35th birthday this year. Do you mourn the demise of the iconic record company?

Paul Stanley: "I mourn the demise of iconic record companies because they nurtured bands and nurtured artists. When record companies were run by people who loved music they stood behind the acts. It wasn't unusual for a record company to expect two or three albums to come out before artist would break. That was the dedication they had, because they loved the music. The days of that are over and long gone.

Click to enlarge Ace Frehley: "I'm Really Happy With How The Record Turned Out"
From: Ultimate-Guitar.com

After twenty years, legendary guitarist Ace Frehley finally emerges with a brand new solo album titled Anomaly. As one of the most beloved personalities in rock 'n' roll, Frehley's the man behind not only KISS' iconic logo, but also the all-time stadium anthem "New York Groove" which came off Frehley's first self-titled solo album in 1978. Anomaly is a super charged outing that sees Frehley pumping out the thunderous guitar riffs on the album's first single "Outer Space" to stamping his own mark upon a cover of Sweet's 1975 classic "Fox On The Run." All in all, Anomaly includes several nods to his long distinguished career where the pickup acrobatics of "Fractured Quantum" and the Wah-Wah scourge of "Genghis Khan" (featuring backup vocals from Meat Loaf's daughter Pearl Aday) are true signature Ace Frehley through and through. On the eve of the album's release, Joe Matera spoke to Ace Frehley about his new album, sobriety and of course, KISS.

UG: Anomaly sees you return in fine form, you must be very happy with the result?

Ace Frehley: Absolutely, I'm really happy with how the record has turned out. It was a labor of love for me. I may have taken a long time to put it all together, but hopefully it will be worth the wait. I believe this record will be another landmark in my career. And I really think everybody is going to be very happy with it...well, I hope they are, because it is really the best I could do at this point in my life.

How did the songwriting process evolve considering it took so long to make this album?

Click to enlarge Media Spoiled Oshawa Surprise
From: Canadian Press

KISS frontman Gene Simmons says the media is to blame for spoiling a surprise the band had in store for Oshawa, Ontario.

Earlier this year, KISS asked fans around the world to go to their website and vote for their hometown to be included in the band's next big tour.

Oshawa finished first among all cities, but when the dates for the tour were announced this week, the Ontario city was left off the list.

Fans and politicians in Oshawa were outraged and KISS eventually announced that it will play the city on Oct. 7.

But Simmons says the media stoked the flames of the angry fan backlash and ruined what was supposed to be a surprise.

Simmons says the band had planned all along to launch its new album, "Sonic Boom," in the city, but was forced by the media to make the announcement early.

"I'm really pissed off at the media for creating this nonsense," Simmons told The Canadian Press in an interview.

"You know, here's the history of the way we do things: you treat everything and everybody special, and because of who and what Oshawa is, which is near and dear to our hearts, because (they) won the No. 1 spot above and beyond New York, L.A., Toronto, Vancouver, we wanted to do a huge campaign."

"(The media) never gave us a chance to treat Oshawa special."

Toronto, London, Ont., Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver have also been scheduled for tour dates.

"We are happy to announce that KISS is coming to Oshawa's GM Centre on October 7th. After the outpouring of emotion we saw today, there was no way we could follow our original plan and make you wait until a later tour leg. You'll now be getting a special record release show. Oshawa, we promise a good time. Stay tuned for details including ticket information. And, for the other cities, we have plans in the works for you, too."

Dennis Michalski Jr. always wanted to be a drummer in a rock and roll band. Today though, at 45 years old, he has turned his passion for music toward collecting memorabilia, all related to his favorite band KISS.

Michalski said, "There's just so much more to KISS music than just the music.

And Michalski's home proves that. Walk down the photo-lined stairs into the basement and you're greeted with his personal KISS museum. Michalski's got anything from hot wheels to baseball cards, guitar picks, CDs, books, VHS, cassettes, DVDs, action figurines, lip balm, slippers, and lunch boxes.

Brand new guitars, some autographed, cover the wall in his basement. Then there's his most-prized possession, the KISS pinball machine.

Michalski said, "This is actually my second one. The first one I found and ended up selling like a fool. I got very lucky, found another one, and I'll never get rid of it."

What's really amazing is how many different KISS items there are to collect. Michalski has a KISS rubik's cube, a KISS bottle of California red wine, a KISS bowling ball, and even a KISS Christmas ornament.

"I didn't realize it would continue to grow so fast that I wouldn't be able to keep up with everything they're coming out with," Michalski said.

Proving that the music industry is an unpredictable beast, a song written by two Fresno musicians nine years ago has found new life on an album from ex-Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley.

Jesse Mendez and David Askew penned the song "Outer Space," which is the first single off Frehley's upcoming album "Anomaly," which is due on Sept. 15. It will be Frehley's first studio album in 10 years.

"Outer Space" will be released Tuesday as a single through music outlets such as iTunes. Local music venue Audie's Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness Ave., is having a KISS-themed party at 9 p.m. Tuesday to celebrate the achievement. There's no cover charge. KISS costumes are encouraged.

"It's one of my heroes singing my words and playing my riffs," says Askew, 44. "I'm just kind of beside myself with the whole thing still." Adds Mendez, 40: "I'm still soaking it all in. I'm excited, but the same time I don't know what's going to happen next." Neither of them ever guessed this would happen.

Click to enlarge Anomaly Is All Aces
From: KISSfaq.com

1975. KISS Alive! We know the album.

The double LP (or cassette, double CD or MP3 files depending on the decade), the hottest band in the land, the magic, the vibe, the songs...and those interplanetary guitar licks and lightning-laced riffs. It's an album that not only helped build an army, but inspired a legion of guitar players and KISS fans. The riffs and the licks? They came courtesy of one Ace Frehley.

It's been quite the ride for Ace spanning KISS the first time around, his solo career through the 1980s and 1990s, the reunion tour, a second KISS farewell, and anything and everything in between. But 2009 not only sees him on the verge of his first solo album in 20 years, but three years of sobriety.

To that end, there's a spring in Ace's step these days. Fresh off his invigorating Rocket Ride tour in 2007-2008, he retreated to the studio to work on Anomaly, an album that may very well be his strongest body of work since his classic 1978 solo album. And with the album dropping Sept. 15, the first single "Outer Space" hitting iTunes Aug. 25, a new tour in the works, a new Ace-model Les Paul, and possible live DVD, Ace's ride is about to take flight again.

KissFAQ caught up with the legendary musician himself to find out how he's gotten back in the groove, and why Anomaly is all aces.

KISS: Modern Day Delilah
From: KISSonline.com

Okay, KISS Army... the 11-year wait is over! Here's the first radio track from SONIC BOOM. KISS' "Modern Day Delilah" hits radio stations everywhere today.

Click to enlarge Sonic Boom Track-By-Track Review
From: The Quietus

Modern Day Delilah

Given the eleven years since their last barely passable studio album - 1998's Psycho Circus it seemed unlikely that Kiss would ever release another album of new material. Seemingly invigorated by a huge recent upsurge in interest in their hefty back catalogue by the younger generation of rock listeners into the studio they went, and six weeks later emerged armed with Sonic Boom. However, we didn't expect them to knock one out of the park this early with this heaving, sweating lump of fabulous groove straight from 1975. "Yeah yeah" are the first words to exit Stanley's mouth and immediately our ears are pricked to what is not stylistically a typical Kiss track, a circular, bass heavy riff driving everything along. The net result is your immediate desire to renew that direct debit to the' Kiss army' while arranging to graft eight or more inches of surplus off your backside on to your tongue - it really is that good.

Russian Roulette

The first of Gene Simmons's vocal contributions and this isn't at all bad. In fact the years have been pretty kind to the 'god of thunder', and his voice has actually developed more than a semblance of melody. It's raw, punchy and lyrically the usual innuendo ridden stuff "this is Russian roulette - one pull of the trigger is all you're gonna get" etc, which we've heard often before but here's it's done with a freshness of attitude that's been absent for a long, long time.

Never Enough

Click to enlarge The Return Of KISS
From: Alphabet Soup

In developing and refining my pencil sketch for Sonic Boom I wasn't completely happy with how the background was working with the diamond shape and the positioning and scale of the lightning border (a small nod to RaRO). I also wanted to play up the idea of something shattering (i.e. from a sonic boom). So I came up with the semi-abstract idea of concentric circles rippling outward like water, only breaking up incrementally into smaller and smaller segments as they expanded, changing the background color from violet to black. It seemed like a fairly simplistic idea, so I tried it and it worked. It also seemed to serve well to both ground and amplify the light beams emanating from the center, which break through the faces. I went through several color iterations, ending with one that had a dark red bleed border. I showed that version to Paul. He looked at it for a minute and then suggested we just change the border to black. We both agreed that this worked better, finishing the design process on this piece.

I did have to redo all the art for the CD/DVD package, which has a slightly more horizontal proportion. That meant shifting and manipulating the proportions of many of the elements. Because the angle of the beams had changed in the new configuration, the most complicated part of this was redoing all the faces. It's a little difficult to tell what went into the face art, transforming them from normal color photographs, so check out the enlarged detail to the right.

From: ClassicRockMagazine.com

Classic Rock can confirm that the new Kiss album will be called Sonic Boom - and we've got the full tracklisting. Not only that, but we've heard six of the album's 11 songs!

Classic Rock's Geoff Barton was invited to an exclusive preview of the new Kiss album this past Friday (August 14), in the convivial company of Doc McGhee, the band's manager.

"Kiss promised to deliver a back-to-their-roots album and that's exactly what we've got," Barton reports.

"Recorded in the old-fashioned, analogue way, it sounds spectacularly good - no ProTools nonsense in evidence here.

"The interesting thing is, it's not simply a homage to the band's first few albums. There are even nods to records such as [1982's] Creatures Of The Night, which had Vinnie Vincent, Bob Kulick and others guesting on guitar.

"Kiss seem to have cleverly combined the best of all their eras into a single winning package."

McGhee confirmed that Sonic Boom will be available exclusively through Wal-Mart, Walmart.com and Sam's Club stores in the US and Canada, as part of a package including a completely re-recorded greatest hits CD (previously available in Japan) plus a live DVD shot in Argentina during the Kiss Alive 35 South American tour.

"Is there any way to play it back on a man's level?" says Gene Simmons, requesting more volume and rolling his eyes at Conway Studios in Los Angeles. Kiss are finishing up Sonic Boom, the band's first new studio album in 11 years, and the God of Thunder wants to hear the songs played back at maximum loudness.

The band announced today that the 11-song Sonic Boom will be released October 6th in the U.S. and Canada exclusively in Walmart stores. The album will be part of a three-disc set that includes a CD of re-recorded greatest hits and a live DVD from a recent tour stop in Buenos Aires. "The world's biggest retailer," Simmons boasts in a statement, "had better get ready for the hottest band in the world and hire more cashiers." The band will celebrate the new LP at a September 25th gig at Detroit's Cobo Arena.

Back at the studio, Simmons and lifetime musical partner Paul Stanley radiate supreme confidence as they reveal the new songs, which reflect the same charged in-your-face sensibility, if not the actual sound, of their classic '70s work. The album was produced by Stanley and is the first to feature the current lineup of guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer (who replaced founding members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss early this decade).

KISS and Walmart announced today that SONIC BOOM-the band's highly anticipated CD, and its first new material in 11 years-will be sold in the U.S. and Canada exclusively at Walmart, Walmart.com and Sam's Club retail locations beginning October 6. SONIC BOOM, produced by the band's Paul Stanley in Los Angeles, is the centerpiece of a three-disc set that also features a completely re-recorded greatest hits CD as well as a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band's recent, record-breaking KISS ALIVE 35 South American tour. The CD set will retail for $12, with pre-orders starting in September on Walmart.com.

KISS' Gene Simmons says, "SONIC BOOM may be the best new record we've done since Destroyer! It is Rock And Roll Over meets Love Gun. The world's biggest retailer had better get ready for the hottest band in the world and hire more cashiers before October 6th!"

Stanley continues, "Through all of the albums that are considered our classics, we tried to always find ways to give our fans extras that went beyond just the music. Besides our making the best KISS album in decades, Walmart has made it possible for us to include a bonus CD with 15 of our most famous songs and an additional live DVD, shot during our recent concert in Buenos Aires. So in every sense, SONIC BOOM is the ultimate return to classic KISS form. You wanted the best, you got the best!"

Walmart, one of America's largest music retailers, is finalizing its exciting plans now for its in-store and online destinations for KISS fans surrounding the launch of the new album and tour, and will host various KISS products in addition to their music in its stores this fall. The veteran heavy metal group, KISS, is joining a growing list of classic acts putting out new music through the world's largest retailer.

"Sonic Boom" is due to be released only at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores on Oct. 6. The three-disc package will include a CD of the band's first new music in 11 years, re-recorded versions of famous KISS hits and a live DVD.

Paul Stanley - one of the quartet's two original members, along with Gene Simmons - said the band chose to release the album at Wal-Mart because the store allowed them to make it memorable.

"They offered us an opportunity to do something that's very much in line with what we used to do with our classic albums, and that's to give people more than just an album of music," Stanley said in an interview last week. "We've always believed in trying to make an album a special event."

Large store chains have become a favorite venue for classic acts to reintroduce themselves with new material. Wal-Mart has sold millions with releases by the Eagles, AC/DC and other key acts. It also has a Foreigner three-disc package due out in September. Target released a three-disc set from Prince earlier this year. Best Buy had the exclusive release of Guns 'N Roses first album in years.

Wal-Mart executives said KISS, like other music acts they've worked with, has a special appeal to their customers.

All The World's A Canvas
From: Examiner.com

Any rock music fan knows who Paul Stanley is.

Paul Stanley is the Starchild, the lust-oozing singer and guitarist of one of the biggest bands in the history of rock and roll.

Onstage he's a commanding presence, somewhat of a rock and roll preacher - if you will; a crooner, a lover, and a circus leader. And those jumps he makes in six-inch, knee-high boots are poetry in motion.

Paul Stanley is 'the one with the star painted on his face,' but the canvas Stanley works with goes far beyond the realm of greasepaint and lipstick. Although coming to know Paul Stanley as an artist may seem to some as if it's a new development in the man's life but it's far from it. Having majored in art, Stanley graduated from the acclaimed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music &am p; Art and Performing Arts in New York City - the school that the movie and television show Fame were based on.

As if Stanley doesn't already have a lot on his plate with the recording of a new KISS album, touring with the band, and having an infant and toddler at home, he is also bringing his artwork back to the Chicago area for an exhibit of his work.

Ken Barr: "KISS Is One Of The Hardest Working Bands"
From: Rockpages.gr

We continue our KISS special feature with the 35th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Ken Barr, author of "We Are The Road Crew" and roadie for KISS in the 90s. Here's an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr: From all that you've seen and all that you read (after the end of your collaboration with KISS), which is the one thing that people don't know about this band and in your perspective should be noted down in this interview?

Ken Barr: I think that KISS is one of the hardest working bands in the world. I don't think that people realize how much hard work goes into their show. From the before show preparations to the show itself, most people couldn't do it. And they do a lot of shows per week, more than most bands. They aren't afraid to do five or six shows a week. If that's what the fans want, that's what they'll do.

Rockpages.gr: You have a book out called "We Are The Road Crew". Tell us a few details about it...

Ken Barr: I wrote my book to chronicle the career I had in music. I went from bars on Long Island when I was a kid, to arenas around the world with bands like KISS. I was fortunate to say the least. The book is my recollections from a great career. I went places and met people I never could have dreamed of. Writing the book jarred a lot of old memories, I'm glad I wrote them down. It also shows how one gig can lead to another and how a club show you did five years ago can land you a tour today. It's available at: www.cafepress.com/roadcrewstore

"The World's Most Famous Groupie" Interviews Ace Frehley
From: PamelaDesBarres.net

Hi dolls, I had the pleasure of spending a little quality time with KISS guitarist Spaceman, the unparalleled Ace Frehley. I interviewed him for RS Italy, but of course, got waaaaay more great stuff that I could use, so will share it with my dolls!

Back in 1978 when all four members of KISS simultaneously released their solo albums, $2.5 million bucks (a whole lotta dough back then!) was spent on the publicity campaign with much frantic hubbub and fanfare. Expectations that bassist Gene Simmons and rhythm front man Paul Stanley would outsell drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley was were shattered when the big winner among the four turned out to be none other than "Spaceman" Ace. If you dolls haven't seen the outrageous Halloween '79 interview from the Tom Snyder talk show, please check it out and get some chuckles. Ace (who was then an alcoholic and joyous drug user) gets manic giggle fits and overtly pisses off the uptight, long-tongued, business-man monster Gene. Check out the wicked looks he keeps shooting his stoned guitarist! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jzve-Tmd70

God bless YouTube for reviving these long-lost, special moments in rock history.

Here we are 30 years later, and the now sober Ace is releasing another raucous, fret-shredding solo album, "Anomaly," which gives me the opportunity to sit down with him at the House of Blues and have a little chit-chat.

The Platinum Experience With Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer And Eric Singer
From: FuryRocks.com

When KISS says they will play anywhere, they mean it! On July 28th, 2009 KISS rocked California once again in support the of Alive 35 World Tour. Jamming for nearly two hours sticking close to the Alive 35 set list. KISS came out with their guns loaded with what seemed to be more pyrotechnics than usual. Maybe to compensate for the fact that, as Paul stated on-stage, couldn't levitate the drum set, fly for Love Gun or come down from the rafters. This is also the second time in 11 months I've seen KISS and Gene passed on the blood spitting and flying. Once again, isn't that what demons do? Some ticket holders were upgraded to better seating due to a pyrotechnics issue. Not bad! The stage was set up in the rodeo arena and most of the floor seating was there on the dirt, as were the cows, seriously. Remember it's a fair and the cows were to the left of the stage, smell and all. Some of those cows had a better vantage point than I did. Remember KISS will play anywhere for their fans and we thank them for that.

THE PLATINUM EXPERIENCE PACKAGE
Autographed 8 x 10
2 personal photos with the band
KISS laminate
Alive 35 guitar picks
Mini KISS poster
KISS Tour Book
Alive 35 T-Shirt
$50 coupon for the online KISS store

The Platinum Experience cost $750. Much less then past tours with a cost reaching in upwards of $1000. Then there was the ticket price with an average of $65, fair admission $7 and lets not forget the $8 corn dog and $7 soda. 6 p.m. was the meeting time at the ticket office to obtain our laminates, T-Shirt and guitar picks. The laminates were more of a novelty item, stating on the back NO BACKSTAGE ACCESS, NO ADMISSION WITHOUT TICKET. Blow to the ego, but I recovered. The experience was scheduled to start at 7:30, stage right. Around 7:45 about 25 of us were escorted backstage (but not really). We were handed the rest of our package items and informed that KISS would sign one personal item and more if time permits.

Ace Frehley Puts An End To Internet Rumors
From: Rock Star Weekly

After more than 20 years, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is back - and he told us so. Ace sat down with RockStar Weekly to talk about the new album and laying to rest some internet rumors.

The spaceman returns to the music world with Anomaly, his first solo CD for his own record label and has recently signed with Vancouver-based management company Chief Music Management, the company that handles the affairs of Hinder and Faber Drive.

Ace has been sober for three years and feels great. "I've been struggling with sobriety for a long time," Ace says. "I've been lucky, but it's a day to day battle."

There have also been many internet rumors that Ace hates. One report in 2007 said the guitarist was dead. A couple new ones include a divorce with his wife of more than 30 years and having to stop using his famous smoking guitar (as reported by Rolling Stone). Ace puts those rumors to rest in our interview - click below to listen.

Chris Lendt: The 1982-85 Period Was The Roughest
From: Rockpages.gr

We continue our KISS special feature with the 34th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Chris Lendt, author of "KISS and Sell" and Vice President of Marks-Glickman Management. Here's an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr: You had worked with KISS from 1976 up to 1988. Your job was more or less to keep things under control on a financial base. We all know when was the most lucrative period for the band, but which one was the lowest point - financially - and why?

Chris Lendt: My recollection is that the 1982-85 period was the roughest. The Elder was a flop, Ace followed Peter and left the group and the big record deal that KISS had with Phonogram/PolyGram was terminated. Years of over-spending were beginning to catch up with the band. There was a lot of uncertainty during that period and the band's popularity was in a steep decline.

Rockpages.gr: Bill Aucoin was the manager of the band when KISS decided to hire the services of Howard Marks and Carl Glickman. Was there a tension between the two sides and have you ever found yourself in an awkward or embarrassing position? Any specific incident...?

Chris Lendt: There was tension at times as Bill began to feel that his prerogatives as manager were being limited by the role the business manager started to play. I think I related one personal anecdote in the book about Bill being annoyed that he had to get the business managers to OK some of his spending decisions. That kind of tension is not necessarily a bad thing. It can protect the artist from a manager who might be prone to excess. But Bill wasn't used to his authority being challenged and eventually it became a thorn in his side.

The Space Ace Returns To Outer Space
From: Chorus And Verse

On a hazy, hot and humid night in July, Nickelback was celebrating their latest album going double platinum with a killer show in Holmdel, NJ. In the middle of the set, front man Chad Kroeger told the crowd that he had a surprise in store. As Nickelback launched into a cover of AC/DC's "Highway To Hell," the crowd silenced for a moment and then exploded in cheers for the special guest guitarist who had taken his place stage left to play lead. When the song was over, the band looked as excited as the audience to be on stage with one of the true guitar gods of rock and roll.

The legendary Ace Frehley launched a million guitar lessons and made his mark as one of the truly innovative and trailblazing axemen in music as an original member of KISS. The Space Ace has been cited by acts as diverse as Pearl Jam, Garth Brooks and the Melvins as an influence and his place in history is established as a player who affected everyone who came after him.

Outside of KISS, Frehley has released four solo albums, the last one dropping in 1989. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the September 15th release of his latest, "Anomaly," set to mark the latest step in a storied career and reset the bar for thunderous riffs and heavy effects. The lead single, "Outer Space," manages to blend the feel of his classic 70's work with his innovative 80's solo sound to create a heavy, modern, hard-rock crunch that is ready for the arena or iPod near you. Listening to this album in light of the last two decades of rock and roll, it's easy to hear how things have come full circle and back to where it started.

Chorus and Verse asked Frehley about his first album of the digital age and he shared his thoughts on "Anomaly" and how a man who has shaped rock history looks to the future.

Q&A With Ace Frehley
From: MagnetMagazine.com

It could be argued that Ace Frehley was the most influential guitarist of the '70s. When KISS hit its 1976-79 commercial peak, there was no rock band more entrenched in the minds of America's youth. And if you asked random KISS fans who was their favorite member, the answer was more often than not "Ace." It's no wonder some of the most successful artists of the last 10 years - from Garth Brooks to Pearl Jam - have cited Frehley and KISS as major influences. Frehley teamed up with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss to form KISS in New York City in 1973. Taking the glitter ball from their NYC glam-rock contemporaries and running with it, the members of KISS donned outrageous makeup and costumes and assumed comic-book hero personas: Simmons, the demon; Stanley, the lover; Criss, the catman; and Frehley, the otherworldly spaceman. Frehley's "Space Ace" persona and fiery, melodic guitar solos would become key factors in KISS' rise to arena superstardom. It was Frehley who designed KISS' iconic logo.

Though Criss wore the feline face paint, it's Frehley who seems to have had nine lives. After leaving KISS in 1982, Frehley embarked on a solo career, releasing three albums and compiling a laundry list of troubles that included drug and alcohol addiction, bankruptcy and high-speed car chases with the police. In 1996, Frehley reunited with KISS for a string of successful tours as well as an album of new material, 1998's Psycho Circus, before playing his final show with the band in 2002. While Simmons and Stanley continue to tread the boards in a verging-on-tribute-band incarnation of KISS (drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Tommy Thayer wear Criss' and Frehely's respective makeup and costumes), the now sober Frehley is set to release Anomaly, his first solo album in two decades.

Frehley recently took a moment to talk with Superchunk/Mountain Goats drummer (and onetime KISS Army member) Jon Wurster. Frehley will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all this week.

KISS Sends Get Well To Injured Fan
From: The Windsor Star

Windsor teen Shawn Kinghorn may have been too injured to see KISS blow away Sarnia's Bayfest, but that didn't stop his rock superheroes from acknowledging their fallen fan.

On Friday, representatives of Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital presented Kinghorn with a KISS-approved compensation package: four KISS T-shirts, a hooded KISS sweater and an official KISS program autographed by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.

"It makes me feel special," said Kinghorn, 13. "Because they don't usually do this for, like, anybody."

More than a month ago, Kinghorn had his heart set on seeing KISS in Sarnia. His father had the tickets, his friends were stoked.

Eric Singer Hails KISS Coffeehouse
From: The Sun News

The KISS Coffeehouse in Myrtle Beach celebrated its third anniversary Saturday. The "all day and night rock 'n' roll party" featured an appearance by KISS drummer the Catman Eric Singer in honor of the coffeehouse's continued success.

"You would've thought the band designed [the KISS Coffeehouse] - that's how good he did it," Singer said during a phone interview in talking about creator and owner Brian Galvin. "Some people understand the KISS mentality and how the band wants to be presented, and this guy was the original one who came up with the concept and had it built. And he did a super job."

As for the coffee, the drummer attests that it's tried and true.

"I am a big coffee drinker, and I will say that the KISS coffee is very good," Singer said. "I've had it before and I'm looking forward to restocking up on my KISS coffee supply."

This is an exciting time for KISS and KISS fans as the band recently finished recording a new album, which will be its first new record of all-new material since 1998. The yet-to-be-titled album will feature 11 tracks and is scheduled to release Oct. 6.
