HARD rock legends KISS want to make Lady Gaga an honorary fifth member of the band.

The Detroit Rock City hitmakers are proud their flamboyant style and face paint are the inspiration behind the 24-year-old's make-up.

Gene Simmons, 60, told me: "She's not Lady Gaga, she's really Lady KISS.

"I love the vibe, the big mouth and the big visuals. She's the most exciting thing to happen since us. She's a female version of us."

KISS believe the key to her success is her connection with fans.

Gene said: "One of the first things we learned was to treat the audience as the guv'nor.

"When they buy a ticket they become your boss. We just work here.

She realises that her fans deserve the best you got because they pay your wages."

KISS are in the middle of their first UK arena tour in over a decade in support of their return-to-form record Sonic Boom.

Singer Paul "Starchild" Stanley, 58, said: "It was overdue to come back and show how good the band is again with a great album."

Another reason for KISS's rejuvenation is the split with troubled original members Ace Frehley, 59, and Peter Criss, 64.

Teetotal Gene admitted: "Once you get rid of the negative influences things are possible again.

"We dearly love Ace and Peter but they held back all kinds of things - the quality of our songwriting and performances."

KISS play all over the UK until May 13.
