Click to enlarge Ex-KISS Guitarist Loses Bankruptcy Appeal
From: Courthouse News Service

Former KISS guitarist Vincent John Cusano, a.k.a. "Vinnie Vincent," lost his 6th Circuit appeal of an order barring him from seeking bankruptcy protection from paying more than $81,000 to his former band mates, whom he unsuccessfully sued for royalties in 1997.

Cusano replaced lead guitarist Ace Frehley in 1982 and played with the band for two years. He departed on bad terms, and later claimed KISS members Gene (Simmons) Klein and Paul Stanley owed him royalties for his work on KISS' 1983 album "Lick It Up."

However, a federal judge in Los Angeles ruled against him and awarded the KISS defendants about $66,400 in attorney's fees and $15,400 in costs.

Click to enlarge Bill Aucoin, Manager Who Discovered KISS, Dies At 66
From: Associated Press

Bill Aucoin, who discovered the rock group KISS and helped build them into a musical and merchandising juggernaut, died Monday in Florida. He was 66.

Aucoin died at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in Aventura of surgical complications from prostate cancer, said Carol Kaye, a family spokeswoman.

A former television cinematographer, Aucoin discovered KISS in New York City in 1973 and helped launch the makeup-wearing, fire-breathing quartet into a moneymaking machine.

He financed the band's first tour on his personal American Express credit card when money was tight, but he was well rewarded when the band's popularity exploded in 1975 with the hit "Rock And Roll All Nite."

"He was the fifth KISS," said drummer Peter Criss, who had Aucoin serve as the best man at his second wedding. "If it wasn't for Bill, there would be no KISS."

Aucoin first saw the band at a showcase gig at New York's Diplomat Hotel, then brought it upstairs to meet with record company executive Neil Bogart, who signed it as the first act on his Casablanca Records label.

Criss said Aucoin had an eye for what was visually striking and recognized the vast merchandising potential of rock bands in a way that few others could. With Aucoin's help, Kiss became as famous for the vast array of products bearing their likeness - including belt buckles, Halloween costumes and makeup kits, action figurines, vitamins and even a Kiss pinball machine - as they were for their music.

By 1978, they were voted the No. 1 band in America in a Gallup poll.

"He was a genius," Criss said. "Anything you could do, he could do bigger."

After parting with KISS in the early 1980s, Aucoin managed Billy Squier and Billy Idol.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Roman Fernandez, and two sisters, Betty Britton and Janet Bankowski.

From: Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons

Bill Aucoin, our irreplaceable original manager, mentor and dear friend has died of complications arising from his ongoing battle with prostate cancer. He was instrumental in guiding us from the beginning and without his vision, leadership and unending dedication, we could never have scaled the heights we have reached.

Bill loved life and lived it to the fullest. Words can never convey his impact on us or those close to him.

Over all the years, he never missed an opportunity to be with us at our shows near his home or fly in for special concerts, including our most recent Madison Square Garden show. He had hoped to attend our London show earlier this month but his illness prevented it. He still planned to visit us upon the start of our upcoming US tour.

We loved him, told him and have peace that he knew it.

We will grieve and celebrate all has was and did.

We have lost a part of us.

Paul Stanley/Gene Simmons

Click to enlarge Bruce Kulick Interview
From: TheyWillRockYou.com

Most rock fans would point to Bruce Kulick's twelve year stint (1984-1996) with KISS as his most recognizable work but Kulick was shredding well before and continues to rock long after his time spent with KISS. His resume includes work with a variety of acts including Meatloaf, Blackjack (with Michael Bolton) and since 2001 he's been touring with Grand Funk Railroad. He also had a short run in the rock band Union which featured John Corabi (ex-RATT, Mötley Crüe, and The Scream) on vocals.

With his latest solo effort "BK3" being described as his best to date it looks like Kulick's page in music history is far from finished. "BK3" boasts a veritable who's who of hard rock's heaviest hitters including collaborations with Steve Lukather of Toto, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer of KISS, Gene's son Nick Simmons, the late Doug Fieger of The Knack, Tobias Sammet from Edguy, and old friend John Corabi. The eleven song offering covers a diverse range of sounds from dark heavy hitters to more melodic ballads and even an instrumental - displaying Kulick's full spectrum of talent.

I recently caught up with Bruce and we discussed all aspects of "BK3", his impressive guitar collection, Eric Carr, KISS and the look ahead as Bruce prepares for yet another summer of touring with Grand Funk Railroad.

Click to enlarge MINIKISS At Gypsies Lounge
From: Times Leader

They're not called "The Hottest Little Band in the World" for nothing.

MINIKISS, an all-little-people tribute to that other hot band, starred in a Super Bowl commercial with KISS for Dr. Pepper Cherry ("Dr. Pepper with a little kiss of cherry" – get it?). They have appeared on "Entertainment Tonight" and in the pages of "Rolling Stone," "Guitar World" and, um, "Hustler."

And now they will appear live on stage at Gypsies Lounge and Nightclub at Mount Airy Casino Resort at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 19th.

The band was the brainchild of 4-foot-4-inch entertainer Joey Fatale, whose company, Little Man Entertainment, has originated other acts such as Mini Elvis (Fatale used to play the king before coming up with the KISS idea) and Mini Britney.

Click to enlarge Ace Attends Les Paul Tribute
From: Gibson.com (photo Wire Images)

To honor the late, great guitar genius Les Paul on what would have been his 95th birthday, Jeff Beck and the Imelda May Band performed a tribute concert in New York, supported by Gibson Guitar.

The show took place at the Iridium Jazz Club in Times Square, the same club where the Wizard of Waukesha worked his magic on Monday nights in the years before he passed away last August.

The concert was part of a two-night stand for Beck and May, who also played for invited guests and sweepstakes winners last night. Tonight, they performed Les Paul and Mary Ford hits along with some rockabilly chestnuts for an audience of superstar guests. Those in attendance included Zakk Wylde, Ace Frehley, John McEnroe, Meat Loaf, Steve Miller, Robbie Robertson, Nils Lofgren, Warren Haynes, Paul Shaffer, Nigel Lythgoe, Johnny A., Stephen Colbert and Gibson Guitar Chairman/CEO Henry Juszkiewicz.

Brian Setzer (famous for his work with rockabilly revivalists The Stray Cats and the Brian Setzer Orchestra) joined Beck, May and the band during the show.

Click to enlarge You're Gonna Rock And Roll All Night With New Rock Band Game
From: WYCD Radio

Music gaming might be on the ropes, but Activision is ready for another round. On Friday, the company officially pulled back the curtain on the upcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Due this fall for the XBox360, PS3 and Wii, the latest game in the popular music franchise is chock full of new features, not the least of which is a brand new 'Quest Mode' narrated by KISS frontman (and reality show family man), Gene Simmons.

Yahoo reports, the story-driven mode will see players "embark on a larger-than-life, epic rock journey" that will transform the game's eight iconic characters into "rock warriors that must join together to use their unique, game-changing powers to help the Demi-God of Rock take down 'The Beast' and save rock n' roll."

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is looking to kickstart the genre by offering over 90 master tracks on disc - the largest ever in a music game - as well as a brand new guitar controller.

From: TheMorningCall.com

A year ago, KISS announced with great fanfare that it was using an online voting system to give the world "the first-ever fan-routed tour."

When the tour's first 40 dates were announced in August, there were few of the high-voting but smaller population cities among them: Uncasville, Conn., which has only 12,000 people but also the Mohegan Sun casino, and Greenville, S.C., with a population of 56,000. But the band promised more dates later.

Well, the next leg of the tour has been announced, and it looks like the online voting was as fake as the blood Gene Simmons spits allover stage.
