The KISS FAQ IV Website Update
From: http://www.kissfaq.com/
The redesign and updating (which of course will remain perpeptual) is just about complete, and the new look KISS F.A.Q. IV is now up at http://www.kissfaq.com/ as the site moves from development to live. Alot of the original content of the FAQ has been revised, updated, expanded, corrected, and much more is in the pipleline. More than 100 sound samples are available, as is plenty of video. Part of the new FAQ is a built in message board, and a weekly chat will be set up later. The price guide needs surgery, since it hasn't been dealt with in years - but that'll occur soon too. So of the larger graphics still need to be uploaded, but the vast majority is in place. This revision is about the information. I'm moving away from flashy, over-bearing, slow design, and getting back to presenting the information in the easiest way possible (I will be taking this a step further in the future). I'm updating and working on the site daily, so there's some catching up to do, keep an eye on the news page. http://www.kissfaq.com/ [Post Your Comments]

KISS Freaks Website Re-opens
From: Steve Stierwalt
After months of waiting, the thrill is back. Thats right KISS Freaks is launching once again! After Fandom Inc. decided to go away, I decided to take stock of the website. I really struggled whether or not to attempt to re-create KISS Freaks. I had several offers from people that wanted to either buy KISS Freaks, run it or host it. I just really wasn't interested in continuing the site at the time. I finally decided that if I continued the site, it would be need to be different than anything it had been before. Especially since I had grown very tired of covering news items. The idea of the site is a little different and so will the content. Of course you can't not cover any news, but the news will be a very minor part of the site. The content of the site will revolve around YOU! Thats right the FANS! Although there will be bios, discographies, videographies, audio video clips, images, and more about the band, the main focus will be the FANS that make KISS great. Along with the graphics of the site revolving around the fans, so will the content. The NEW KISS Freaks will feature artwork, photos, stories, reviews & anything else fan related that was done by a fan of the band. I spent a lot of time this summer on the development of the NEW KISS Freaks deciding what kind of content should be in the site and what should not. I think former fans of the site will definitely like the new look and content. http://www.kissfreaks.com [Post Your Comments]

Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
BRUCE KULICK HELLO everyone! What an exciting time UNION had in Buenos Aires!! First off, as soon as we unpacked we went lunch to go over the schedule which of course was going to be hectic. After an amazing food experience, (I still cannot get over how good the food is there!), John and I had to go pick out some acoustic guitars from a local store, and then get ready for some interviews, and then to go to Much Music (like MTV) for an acoustic performance (live) and interview. We arrived and there was a crowd mobbing us as we got out of the van. WILD!! We saw friends from the last time there, and of course was excited to play for the crowd. We practiced backstage, and then we performed 4 songs and an interview. As we left the crowd once again mobbed me, so much that I was not walking to the van, I was being lifted by the crowd! Off to the hotel for dinner and some rest. Next day started with a live performance on a radio show called "Cual Es". It was really funny to play full on, in a small room live on the radio. Well Howard Stern does it!! After that performance and interview, which was difficult as the radio host was showing John and I some wild DVD of porn on his Laptop, off to lunch again. Then we were off to the theatre for a soundcheck and back to the hotel for more interviews. Went to dinner, and then off to the Roxy club for some fun, and we even jammed a few songs as the club owner hoped we would play to hype the event there on Saturday. Another long day of course, but Buenos Aires NEVER SLEEPS! [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Publishers Weekly Review - KISS & Make-Up
From: GeneSimmons.com
The "Phantom of the Park," a.k.a. Simmons, needs nary a ghostwriter to pen his bio, for he ably delivers this season's most fascinating backstage pass. Articulately detailing his life from his birth in Israel through the 30-year life span of KISS, he charts how glam-metal's greatest pioneers provided the most outrageous spectacles of arena rock in the 1970's. Those same pyrotechnics, pneumatic drum risers, jacked-up personas and frightening face paints have sold 80 million records worldwide. Simmons, the "guy who sticks his tongue out and spits fire," boasts other on-stage innovations, including "throwing up blood" and creating the ubiquitous headbanger's hand sign for the devil. All in all, the rock 'n' roll extravaganzas of the KISS empire hardly run short of the obvious - wild parties, famous faces, hotel fiascoes, banging up cars and getting busy with groupies. Though no Wilt Chamberlain, Simmons describes at length how he has slept with 4,600 women. But when the smoke clears, the book is as well written as it is interesting: the story of a Jewish kid from Brooklyn, the endearingly sincere struggles Simmons faces over the years, his longtime romantic partnership with Shannon Tweed and their eventual parenthood- as well as juicy material like his extended romances with Cher and Diana Ross. While moldering rock stars who have tales to tell may be a dime a dozen, Simmons' enjoyable and intriguing autobiography deserves attention.
Forecast: Thanks to KISS comic books, dolls and other paraphernalia, the band's quasicult fan base runs the gamut of age and cultural orientation. Expect big sales garnered from mass emails, author interviews and a 50-city radio tour. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Box Set Article From ICE CD Newsletter
From: Bob Rodrick

Kiss: The Boxed Set only touches on the bounty of unreleased material stored in the vaults. Thayer comments, "We have a tape storage facility that houses probably tens of thousands of tapes, both audio and video. As the stuff is gone through and reviewed, I'm sure you'll see more things."
For nearly 30 years, hard rock god Kiss have been notorious for their trademark face paint, lavish costumes and larger than life concerts. Often overlooked, however, is the band's gargantuan back catalog - one that includes roughly 35 releases, 26 charting singles and more than 100 hours of music. On November 20, Island/Universal lumps together 64 classics and 30 previously unheard tracks into KISS: The Boxed Set, a mammoth project spanning the group's entire history. A year in the making, the five disc, six hour collection touches on the earliest recordings by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and company from 1968 through to their Millennium performance in Vancouver, B.C. Peppered throughout are unreleased demos, soundcheck recordings and live takes for the collector. Scouring the Kiss vaults, the project coordinators baked original tapes, burned 100 hours of material onto reference CDs, and sifted through it all for consideration; the contents were selected by the band itself. Tommy Thayer, who produced the project and has worked exclusively with Kiss over the past 10 years, tells Ice, "We didn't base it (the track selection) so much on sound quality; it's more from a historical perspective - what's most important and what tells the story." Accordingly, the box is "in roughly chronological order, but not verbatim...I think if you get things exactly in order, it gets a little sterile." [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons Tells it Like He Sees it at UCLA Extension Course
From: GeneSimmons.com
The inimitable Gene Simmons, co-founder of the rock band (and marketing phenomenon) KISS, will speak to students in a UCLA Extension course on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 7-10pm on the UCLA campus. The course, called "There's No People Like Show People: Communicating with Creative Professionals in the Entertainment Business," features a variety of guest speakers seeking to bridge the communication gap between art and commerce in the entertainment industry. The course is taught by Dr. Laurie Pearlman, a psychologist with 25 years of experience as a producer and agent. Simmons is renowned not only for his groundbreaking creative work with KISS, but for his marketing and merchandising savvy. Although KISS was founded nearly 30 years ago, it was named the number one touring band as recently as 1998, and has sold over 80 million records and holds over 2,500 licenses. Simmons' autobiography, KISS and Makeup, from Crown Books, is due to hit the stores in December. [Post Your Comments]

UNION was successful in our Re-union of UNION!! We had some important guests (Gene Simmons for example) and we rocked both the valley and Anaheim CA. It was great to perform the songs, and the reaction from the fans made us feel very welcome of course. We also filmed both of these shows, as we are always considering the long form DVD and Video tape on the band that I have mentioned in the past. UNION is now off to Argentina, and we look forward to greeting our South American fans again. Baltimore KISS expo was a success and I want to thank all the fans to come out to the first annual one. KISS Won't Be Doing D.C. Benefit
From: VH1.com via Steve Myers
Kiss have dropped out of the lineup for Sunday's United We Stand ‹ What More Can I Give benefit in Washington, D.C., because of a medical emergency, while earlier reports that Mick Jagger would participate were premature, according to a spokesperson for the event. Kiss singer and guitarist Paul Stanley had initially postponed hip surgery so the group could lend a hand to the benefit, but soon realized he was in too much pain to perform, according to the band's official Web site. "Although I know that at this time I cannot deliver what this audience will expect and deserve," Stanley said in a statement, "as Americans, and as a band that was born in New York, we stand united with everyone involved in this incredible event." KISS Army Collects $3,000 For Orphans in NY
From: Kathy
Shortly after the September 11th attacks, the KISS Army OnLine (KAOL), offered an opportunity for KISS fans to assist in the nationwide healing efforts thru donations for NY victims and their families. In an effort to keep it upbeat, we lowered our prices and various KISS Tribute packages were promised in return for the charitable pledges. We're happy to report that with the help of so many fans, we quickly and successfully raised $3,000. We've researched the many charities available and have earmarked the money to be given to the "Twin Towers Orphan" Fund. We considered all the obvious choices: the American Red Cross, the United Way, the September 11th Fund, and several dedicated police and firefighter foundations. When selecting, we tried to keep in mind who was the least visible and who needed the most help. It was important that our $3,000 go to where it had the most impact. We settled on the "Twin Towers Orphan" Fund where 100% of the money is promised to be used for the children who lost parents in the WTC, as well as the ill fated airliners - either as passengers or crew. See www.ttof.org for more info. We are now picking up where we left off and returning our fund raising efforts back over to Alzheimer's Disease. We've also decided to maintain our lower discount prices on the Tribute CDs (while supplies last) in hopes of enticing newcomers to join in on the KISS Army fundraising. It only takes a few bucks and you can have quite the collector¹s item while helping a great cause. Special thanks to ALL of the KISS fans who came forward, some of whom already owned the KAOL products and asked for nothing in return. For those receiving our series of KISS Tribute CDs, enjoy them to the fullest. You've made the music far more meaningful than ever before. To learn more about the KISS Tribute CDs for charity, visit www.kissarmyonline.com Don't forget: For a limited time you can get the coolest, patriotic, yet internationally flavored KISS Army t-shirt or baseball jersey. Star Interviews Online - Bruce Kulick Interview
From: KULICK.net
www.star-interviews.com - I first saw Bruce Kulick in Richfield, Ohio playing guitar for KISS in 1984. I was expecting someone named Mark St. John but he was either kicked out of KISS or had to quit, couldn't perform, depends on who you talk to. In my opinion, Bruce Kulick didn't fit in KISS. He was too good for them. Sure, you could argue that KISS is legendary and great, but I am here to tell you, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are showmen, not true musicians. They are good at what they do, have a large following, and I love KISS too. But that's old KISS. To me, when Bruce came into the band, it was the 'Kulick Era' because no matter how good or how bad the music was from 1984 to 1995, one thing shined, the guitar. KISS In Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Music Artists List
From: MTV.com
The Beatles may have been the most powerful rock band of 2001 thanks to their hits package 1, but Britney Spears wasn't far behind, according to Forbes magazine's 100 Top Celebrities list. The Fab Four ranked third on the power list ‹ behind Tom Cruise and Tiger Woods ‹ with earnings of $70 million for the year. Spears received a fourth-place power ranking, earning $38.5 million. 'NSYNC actually topped her financially, with $42 million in the bank, but charted at #8, just behind the #7 Backstreet Boys, who brought in $35.5 million....KISS may never be able to show their unmasked faces in public again, having landed only at #47. The band fared slightly better in the financial department, taking #41 with $24.5 million earned. It's a good thing Gene Simmons is hawking band coffins for $5,000 a pop. Paul's Folgers Coffee Commercial MP3 Audio
From: Scott Ryfun
I work at a radio station and while I was doing a remote this afternoon, our computer began playing one of its ABC commercial breaks (ABC has bought several minutes' worth of time every hour on all of our radio stations; our computer automatically records the commercials and plays them back), when my attention was caught by the sound of someone singing "the best part of waking up..." It was clearly Paul. You know, you can't miss the voice. I listened to the rest of it, and surely enough, it was a radio version of his Folger's commercial. I didn't realize he'd be singing on it. Anyway, I immediately called our board op and told him to burn it to a CD. [Listen To The Folgers Commercial...] [Post Your Comments]

Exploring the history of the band through each album release. You'll be able to find out the logic behind the releases, what was going on in the band during the recording of albums, what the band was up to in the period leading up to studio time, and lots more information which should be of interest to the diehard fan!

Sound Off KISS Army
KISS ASYLUM wanted to open the door to other writers out there and give them a place where they can voice their opinions about KISS. We bet there are more than a few of you who have at least one KISS related topic burning in you that you'd love to write a one time piece about. Well, KISS ASYLUM is happy to bring to you a forum in which to do so in our new feature "SOUND OFF!" KISS ARMY.

KISS Thought Vault
The "Summertime Memories" Kiss Thought Vault finds Ron Albanese waxing nostalgic over summers past, by way of release dates and pinball. A certain starry-eyed little girl also secures her place in Vault history. Also mentioned: The Harlem Globetrotters.

KISS Video Spotlight
What I have in store for you is a real treat. What you are about to read is an interview I recently completed with WNEW DJ (and fellow NJ resident) Ed Trunk.
