KISS "COS" Radio Promo tour in New Jersey
From: MrSpeed103@aol.com
Hey, I just got done listening to Gene and Paul on WDHA 105.5 in New Jersey. They talked about pretty much the same stuff: they are planning the new studio album with Ace and Peter for a May release and a tour in September; they are planning a 4th of July show somewhere in the US (they wouldnt say where) that they say is going to be huge and everyone will be able to come... FREE! They fielded calls and seemed in good spirits, and the station played "Jungle," "Master and Slave," "I Will Be There," "Rain" and "Childhood's End" from COS, and also played a very cool commercial promoting the album. Gene and Paul also said there is a movie in the works down the line but didn't really elaborate. They said its not what you think. That's pretty much it. Very cool segment on Jersey's rock radio.

KISS "COS" Radio Promo tour in New Jersey
From: robstar@webspan.net
I'd like to add to the previous news on Gene & Paul's appearance on WDHA in Jersey today:

  • Gene stated that they are very proud and honored by all the unofficial KISS web sites, and they are in no position to tell any fan what they can and can't do on the web.
  • The offical KISS web site is still in the works.
  • They stated that they have just about completed writing songs for the new album and are ready to start demoing them when they get back to L.A.
  • Paul says they are very aware of what the fans want out of the next album, and promises they will deliver that and more!
  • The KISS movie will be a MAJOR buget movie, $40 million or so, along the lines of the Star Trek budget. It will NOT be a biography of the band. It'll be a few years before it comes out.
  • The next tour will be a MASSIVE spectacle, that will bring the art of touring to a whole new level.
  • They're going to do a HUGE July 4th show that will be FREE to everyone around the world, and that it'll be in a place with a lot of space for everyone to come.
  • They mentioned that on the Reunion tour, the idea was to originally have all four members descend from the ceiling to the stage to start the show, but unfortunately some members weren't to comfortable when they tested it out.

    KISS Destroyer mural in NYC
    From: Francesco Gucciardo
A friend of mine took a trip to New York City where he encountered a peculiar mural on the shady side of town. In the midst of portraits dedicated to deceased rappers and gang members, in the middle of Houston Street, is painted in "larger than life" fashion, the KISS Destroyer album cover.

KISS "COS" Radio Promo Tour in New York
    From: SFallon@aol.com
Hi, just in case no one else reported this I thought I would. Gene and Paul did their COS interview on WRCN radio yesterday on Long Island, New York. I caught enough to catch some interesting things. Gene spoke about what troopers Peter and Ace were on the tour, saying Ace one night in full makeup before a show was screaming in pain on the dressing room floor because a doctor was shooting medicine into his knees, and he still did the show, no complaints. They said the upcoming movie was gonna be a spectacle, and Paul used the term "Star Wars" to describe it. They also were reciting lines from thr Phantom movie at the urging of someone in the studio, and Paul did his lines from the pool scene when he spoke to the girl named Melissa, it was pretty funny. Gene kept teasing the woman interviewing them about a date she had upcoming, he seemed in good spirits. All in all it was a very entertaining interview.

    KISS Tidbits
    From: Angel Ruiz
According to an article that appears in the edition of November of the Spanish Metal Hammer, COS will come out in Spain at the beginning of November and not October 27th . There isn't any explanation of why this delay is taking place. In the same article there's an interview with Gene Simmons whose more important points are:

  • COS have been the album of KISS harder on recording, since they were trying to come closer to the limit of the band and that is always difficult, Gene says he loves the album.
  • As for the bootlegs, they are very hurt, since it is as if a painter spends a lot of time working in his master piece and when he finishes it, somebody arrives and takes a picture of it, presenting this to the world as the original one, removing the opportunity of the artist to present his work as he wanted. As Gene informs, FBI is investigating this stuff.
  • He's also very proud of Ace and Peter that literally are "breaking their eggs" working for the new album. Lastly he defined KISS like the Big - Bang or fireworks, keeping in mind that according to certain theories everything comes from the Big Bang....

    KISS Remasters in Columbia House
    From: Reagan
I remember awhile back that there was a post wondering if the KISS REMASTERS were going to be in Columbia House. Well they are now in the American Columbia House and should be in the Canadian Columbia House soon. Check out the latest ad for Columbia House in Metal Edge Mag. You'll see what they have in there.

    KISS Tidbits
    From: Michael Tannacore
Today on Regis and Kathie Lee, they were supposedly going through the station's archives. Kathie Lee showed a picture of Regis' old band and they had a picture of 1977 KISS but they had a picture of Regis in KISS makeup instead of Gene on the photo.
Here at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, we have a paper called the Stony Brook Press. It is a parody of the official paper, the Statesman. Anyway, on the cover, there is a picture of Gene Simmons in full KISS make-up with his tongue sticking out. The headline was "Scary Stuff Inside our Halloween Issue..." Pretty cool, eh? It seems like there are KISS fans everywhere.

KISS "COS" Radio Promo tour in Fort Worth
    From: luckydog@AAM.net
Just a small news-bit about the radio promo-tour. This Friday (Haloween Night) Ft.Worth Radio-Station Q-102 is presenting KISS at the Copper-Tank Micro-Brewery. Anyway, this seems to be different than the other stops, and also of note, it is scheduled to last 5 HOURS (From 7-12).

Adendum to the above Radio Promo tour in Fort Worth
    From: Ron Taylor
Just a quick adendum to the KISS visit to "Fort Worth" friday night. The Copper Tank is actually located in the Deep Ellum section of downtown Dallas. Also I spoke with the local Mercury rep yesterday and he said that due to a scheduling conflict, Paul will not be coming. Only Gene will be there.

KISS Newsbit from KISS My Access
    From: KLT4725@aol.com
I called the KISS MY ACCESS line today and there was a message from Gene talking about what's going on. He said that they are working on a new KISS special magazine/tourbook. He said it was going to be like the foreign tourbooks (with lots of pictures) plus a calender and maybe some guitar picks. He also ended by saying that the next tour would be the tour to end all tours "but I don't want to say it's ending anything cause some crazy online person will say it's the end of the band- turn it into a fact"

KISS "COS" Radio Promo Tour in Minneapolis
    From: Cher Strand
I just wanted to let you know that when Gene & Paul were in Minneapolis at 93X Real Rock radio, they stopped after the show to talk to fans, answer questions and sign anything that anyone brought with them. Gene was kind of grump, it was probably just too early in the morning for him but, Paul was really warm and friendly. There were only about 20-25 fans outside (which probably had to do with the fact that it was only 14 degrees out) and the radio personnel made us all leave the station premises so, we stood in the street and watched as the limo with our heros arrived. After the show, we lined the driveway and begged them to stop, which they did for about 20 minutes. My husband and I got photos of both Gene and Paul and they both signed Alive III for us. After twenty years of wishful thinking, it was the highlight of any KISS fan to have the guys virtually to ourselves!

Paul & Gene appreance in Boston
    From: Jim Miller
Just figured fans in the Boston area would want to know that Gene and Paul would be appearing at a coffee shop in Salem, Ma on Friday morning, Oct 31. Appropriate?!?! They will be giving away an autographed bass guitar (most likely, and Axe). They are appearing courtesy of the Real Rock of Boston, WAAF. So check out WAAF's site for more details.

"Carnival of Souls" sells well in Cleveland
    From: bryank@theonramp.net
I work at the Best Buy store here in Cleveland and I am proud to say that all of the stores in our district (six thru Northeastern Ohio and two in the Pittsburg area) have sold out of C.O.S. on the first day with people still asking about it!! I don't know if this had to do with Paul & Gene being in town yesterday but it sure is nice to see such a demand for this album!!!

"Carnival of Souls" sells well in Pottsville, PA.
    From: JGeleff@aol.com
I went to a mall in Pottsville, Pa. to buy COS in the evening on the 28th. The whole mall was sold out!!!!! Over 100 copies allegedly. I had to go to 2 other stores in different places until I found it.

"Carnival of Souls" sells well in Baton Rouge
    From: Peter Gutierrez
From Baton Rouge: Three (3) major retailers where sold-OUT of COS on 10/29/97! All (3) Blockbusters and a large "indie" "CD Warehouse" were SOLD OUT of Carnival of Souls. I've managed a copy and it RULES. Had Peter and Ace recorded on this album, it would be called the ULTIMATE, the BEST since DESTROYER. This disc kicks-ASS! It's a SELL-OUT in BATON ROUGE!

"Carnival of Souls" sells well in Victoria
    From: Sean Cowie
Well, just as I expected, COS is unable to stay in the stores! I had my name down at 4 different stores here in Victoria to hold me a copy when it came in yesterday and--luckily--I managed to get one. No one else had ordered even close to enough for the demand. This comes as no surprise to me since everyone around here seems to have written KISS off as "has-beens". Well, COS should open the eyes of those skeptics and show them that KISS is still very much alive! The album is killer!!

KISS album "Carnival of Souls" released today!
The brand new KISS studio album, "Carnival of Souls" is released today here in the U.S. Go to your local record stores and get this cool album! For more information regarding this album please make it a habit to check out the "Carnival of Souls" news page in the News Extra column of this front page.

One quick note on the U.S. "Carnival of Souls" release. I picked up the CD today and along with the CD booklet as mentioned before there was a merchandise booklet. Funny, the merchandise booklet is BIGGER than the CD booklet! That is a shame.
In any case some of the merchandise in the booklet is the KISStory, KISS coins, KISS jacket, throw blanket, masks, action figures etc.
There are also some T-shirts. One of them was the "KISS They're Back" T-shirt and the other was a really cool T-shirt that said "Were you There for the End of the World". It is pictured here. Front | Back.

KISS Radio Promo tour in Chicago
    From: Paul Moore
Listen to Kiss on Rock 103.5 in Chicago with Mancow's Morning Madhouse...
I got a chance to talk to Paul and Gene and asked about any rumors regarding a new box set in future. All they said was they are currently getting ready to go into the studio with Peter and Ace to record a new album and there is talk of a new box set in the future they said. They said on the next tour that the stage will be awesome compared to the reunion tour.
I asked what the chances were of them (Gene and Paul) of showing up at the November 9th Chicago Kiss Convention. And they said NO.
And in closing they said that they are making a video to be released soon that will be a chronological token of how the reunion tour took place, from the first time Paul, Gene, Peter, and Ace rehearsed, backstage footage, and the actual tour. Sounds cool, can't wait to see it.

KISS Radio Promo tour in Detroit
    From: IJFan
Paul and Gene were on 101.1 in Detroit today [10/27]. They took a LOT of calls and answered a lot of questions. Most of the stuff we already know but there were a couple of interesting bits of information:
G&P are hoping for a reunion album to come out in May.
They are working on or going to release a video tape of the tour. They said that they are working on it and it would be out in a couple of months. Gene said that it would be like the history of how they got back together and that everything was filmed during the tour (backstage, concerts, etc) Basically Gene feels that fans would love to see this footage or otherwise it would just end up sitting in the vault.
There should be some KISS movie news in a few weeks.
That's about it. It was a pretty good show and they played tons of KISS music.

Also, I noticed on your web page that someone reported that they heard on the program that the new studio record would be out in february. However, that was in one of their news segments that they do every couple of hours or so. Paul said during the interview that they hope to have an album out in May.

    "Jungle" chart info
    From: Chris
Jungle is now up to #12 still with a bullet on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Top 40 chart. In three weeks, the song has gone from 32, to 13 to 12. Even though it was only a one spot jump from last week to this week, that's pretty normal. Once a song gets near or in the Top 10, its chart movement will be much smaller.

    No "Outromental" on COS

I just got the c.d. of "Carnival Of Souls" today and, to my surprise, the "Outromental" that was on the advance tape [after "I Walk Alone"] is NOT on the disc! I got the disc a day early, so I don't know if the cassette has it on there or not. Just thought I'd pass this along!

    Eric Singer drum clinic
    From: Yoderme@aol.com
Eric Singer will be giving a clinic in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 4th. Sam Gibb (of Sam Gibb's Music) is sponsoring the event and told me there is no way they could possibly fit everyone into their small store, so the location is to be announced. The guy in the drum department is a KISS fan and told me they wanted to treat Eric accordingly, so this thing will have to held in a large enough place to fit all of his fans and provide a professional atmosphere, (possibly the MPEC or the Armory here in Wichita Falls.) Contact Sam Gibb's Music, (940) 767-1456, or toll free 1-800-201-1471 for details.

    UNION News
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
I've heard (more than half of) one of next year's best albums. I was in the studio with UNION tonight--Bruce Kulick, John Corabi, Brent Fitz, and James Hunting and got to hear some great music. Some, I'd heard on demo but now they're more complete, fuller-sounding songs, others are new ones that rock hard. A few didn't have vocals yet but they smoked anyway. The music is soulful, heavy, groove-oriented, rocking, excellent. I can't wait to see these guys live, but they won't be doing gigs till early next year. However, Bruce and John are going to do some acoustic radio promo appearances in November. Nov. 15 in Toronto, Nov. 21 in Philadelphia (WYSP) also another there at the KISS Expo on the 16th. They're doing an Internet chat on Nov. 3, and Bruce is going to try to stop by the chat tomorrow.

    "Jungle" on the charts
    From: Chris
Jungle is up to #15 on both the Active Rock and Rock Top 50 on the R&R Charts, still with a bullet on both. This is as of R&R's October 24 update for airplay during the week of October 13-19. I should have airplay stats by sometime next week. The surprise in this is its showing on the Rock Top 50, because these reporting stations tend to be a little more conservative as far as what they play.

Airplay stats for "Jungle" during the period of 10/13-10/19 on R&R Charts:
Active Rock #15 with 1039 plays
    Rock #15 with 689 plays
"Jungle" was amoung the top songs for most increased plays for the third straight week.

    More "Jungle" chart info
    From: Bob Rodrick
"Jungle" moves up only one spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Top 40 chart this week to #12. This is the Novemeber 1 issue. Hopefully, next week it will crack the top ten.

Unfortunately, I wasn't in the room with the radio to hear it when it played, but I did catch the announcer afterwards who said something about this great cut off of Carnival of Souls and that she has gotten a ton of calls requesting songs from this album. The dj seemed to really speak somewhat highly of Kiss and Carnival of Souls as opposed to the station's sometimes unfavorable tone of voice when they mention that they are getting ready to play a Kiss song (which is usually a rare event). The Kiss Army's voice has been heard in Indianapolis.  Your calls and e-mails really do help get Kiss some airplay.  I heard from a friend that Indy's Alternative station X-103 also played "Jungle". Keep requesting songs from Carnival of Souls everyone! I know I will :)

    "Carnival of Souls" rocks Indy!
    From: Sara
I thought that Kiss Asylum might want to know this. WFBQ in Indianapolis is playing not one, not two, not three, but the entire album of CARNIVAL OF SOULS!  The songs from the album have been controlling the airwaves since about 8:00 tonight. It has been great! The dj, rockin' ralph (?) really really likes ALL of the songs on the album and she said it is really rare for ALL of the tracks to be so good.  She talked about how with most albums there are a few good songs and the rest basically aren't as rockin'. She talked about how the album is a GREAT ROCKER. She said the phone lines have been flooded with requests for the songs from the album.

    KISS Forum webpage
    From: Thomas Andersson
I just wanted you to know that I have put up a new webpage called The KISS Forum where fans (and others) can post their views and opinions on basically everything related to KISS. The design is very simple, but if enough people post their opinions on it, I'll put in some more work into the design of the page. I strated it mainly because I grew tired of all the junk-mails posted to the mailing-lists about Peter vs Eric, 70s vs 80s vs 90s etc etc and wanted to give the interested people somewhere else to let everybody know their personal opinion and thoughts. The URL is http://kissforum.home.ml.org

    "Jungle" rocks radio airwaves
    From: Filippo Gerolimetto
With Jungle Kiss is having a huge radio airplay success in Rock Radio stations like the band has never had in the past. With the single climbing at #13 in Mainstream rock chart is easy to suppose that next week the song will reach the top ten. This has never happened to a Kiss song in this format chart. Looking back here is a complete statistic of the previous singles performance in the Billboard Album Rock Chart since the 80's:
    1983 Lick It Up #19
    1984 Heaven's On Fire #11
    1985 Tears Are Falling #20
    1987 Crazy Crazy Nights #37
    1988 Reason To Live #34
    1989 Hide Your Heart #22
    1990 Forever #17
    1990 Rise To It #40
1991 God Gave RnR To You #21
    1992 I Just Wanna #34
    1992 Domino #26
    1993 I Love It Loud (live) #22
    1996 RaRaN (unplugged) #13
So, as you can see, if Jungle reach the top ten will be the most succesful hit in 17 years (and without the support of a videoclip!). Not bad for an outtake of an album that shouldn't have been released. The reason of this sudden success? Cause of the reunion tour? Nah. In my opinion the reason is just musically. Jungle (and COS) represent Kiss at its finest and this track fits with the actual music scene perfectly. If the album would have been released back in 1995 I think would have been widely got the same airplay and surely with the right promotion would have sold great. Probably Kiss didn't need the reunion with the original line up to get its due.

    - First Look Preview! -

From: Julian Gill of KISS FAQ II
AWSOME!!!! (But we already knew that)
It definately sounds way better than the excellent bootleg I had of it. Very heavy. The packaging sucks. Nothing said about the album at all... BUT AT LEAST ITS FINALLY RELEASED!
[Note: For CD release schedule, please check KISS Future page]
The CD I didn't bother scanning. It has a plain black background with a Red KISS Logo at the top outlined in silver (unprinted on the CD). The tracks are not listed on it. In silver (unprinted) at the bottom it says Carnival Of Souls The Final Sessions.
That's all. And now I'm gonna crank it!!!!!

    "Carnival of Souls" rocks Ontario
    From: adowdall@netcom.ca
Tonight on 97.7 HITS FM in St. Catherines, Ontario - they played "Childhood's End" and "In The Mirror" off of Carnival of Souls. Very cool considering that most stations have been playing Jungle. They also announced that there is going to be a listening party for COS at Malibu Jacks (that's a bar in Niagra Falls) on Friday Oct. 24, starting at 9pm. Polygram is also giving away free stuff that night including, COS VINYL!! and a complete KISS CD CATALOGUE for whatever contest they are holding that night. Malibu Jacks is a close drive for fans from Buffalo and the Toronto Area. It is located off of the QEW exiting at McLeod Rd. I don't know the exact address but I'm sure you could call them and find out.

    Ace Frehley Update
    From: Jez 13666
Hey kids. Talked to Ace last night - he's been super busy with everything. Loves his new bike - an '86 Harley, black & chrome with flames painted on the side. He said he's been riding it everyday since he got it. He hasn't been online yet, been too busy with other things. He's still getting settled in his new house, and is busy getting tunes together for the new album. He's also working on building a new studio. He really like the second volume of 12 Picks, his fave cut is called "One Plus One" (he thinks!). It was originally a song for the first Comet album, and he really likes how John remixed it, bringing the vocals & his solo up a bit. He's working on the getting the fan club back up & running, and is sorry he hasn't had time to work on his web page, but there are only so many hours in a day! That's it for now...

    "Jungle" on the Charts
    From: Chris
"Jungle" is on fire on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream Rock Charts. After a first week debut at #32, it has rocketed all the way up to #13 in its second week on the charts. It was also given an "Airpower" rating for attaining 800 detections for the first time. I assume this means plays.

Besides Billboard, where "Jungle" stands at #13 with a bullet on the Mainstream Rock Top 40, the song is also doing great on the R&R charts. After debuting at #41 and #50 on the Active Rock and Rock Top 50, "Jungle" has moved up to #17 and #22 respectively. Both charts list the song as having the most increased number of plays for the week for the second straight week.

The Active Rock chart reported 890 plays for the week of 10/6 to 10/12, while the Rock Chart reports 553.

Here in Columbia, SC, KISS are enjoying some success, too. WMFX (Fox 102), formerly all classic rock, now playing a mix of old and new, is playing "Jungle" during evening drive time and at night. The drive time DJ loves the song. He told me "it rocks" and he's getting lots of requests.

KISS in David Lee Roth book: "Crazy from the Heat"
    From: RnRAllNite@aol.com
A couple days ago David Lee Roth was on Howard Stern talking about Gene having an ulterior motive of getting Eddie Van Halen to join KISS! Well here is the story straight from Diamond Dave as quoted from his awesome book Crazy From The Heat:

"There was a brief interlude in 1977, when Gene Simmons from KISS came to the Starwood and saw us play to a sold-out audience and thought we were absolutely spectacular, and said, "I'd like to make a demo tape." He was thinking of himself as a producer. He had a couple of artists that he was producing, doing whatever in the studio. KISS was at an all-time high, they were at their zenith. We said, "Sure. Let's make a demo tape." We didn't have a clue. He flew us all to New York City, we made a demo tape, four songs, some of which later wound up on records-"Runnin' With the Devil", I believe was on there, "House of Pain" wound up on the 1984 album.
We had a big meeting with his manager, Bill Aucoin, who was riding very high on the hog at the time. It was at his Madison Avenue office, high floor of the building. We sat in front of his mahogany desk, and he had his shoes polished by a little Italian man while he spoke to us.
And he said to us, "Guys, I think the music is great but I don't think the vocals hold up. I just don't hear the melodies, the hits that are required in this day and age." He said, "Dave, maybe there are a couple other acts that I handle that we could get you to work with. Guys, you and the band, maybe another vocalist would work. But otherwise, Gene has his own career, he's in KISS, and barring any other permutations, I don't think I can work with you." Like so.
We walked out of that office, and I felt terrible. Wow-had I let the band down? This was my first experience with somebody getting his shoes polished by and Italian guy on Madison Avenue. I didn't know what the Van Halens were thinking at the time; perhaps they were buying this load of horses***.
Turns out that Gene Simmons's true interest was in conscripting Ed Van Halen into their show in some form or another, get him to play on the record, get him to help write guitar solos, get him into the band. So this dismissal was followed up by calls to Edward, "Come on down, we're recording at Larrabee Studios in Hollywood and we got a new song, we need a guitar solo. Come on down."
I was always very fiercely protective of what we were doing as a group, as a clan, 'cause there's always going to be pirates, there's always going to be carpetbaggers, like Simmons. And I would show up with Ed at the studio. Simmons would look at me with horror. Horror. 'Cause I was on to his game way early.
There were scenes like: "Oh, all of you guys are invited to the big KISS show down at the Forum," and I would show up and there would be no tickets for me. The Van Halens would be inside, comfortably ensconced in the back room with Gene and his pals. Of course I knew what was up, and I was super protective of the band at the time, or people like that would have picked us apart right away."

KISS in Aerosmith's "Walk This Way"
    From: Paul Guillemette
Here's the scoop on Kiss related content in Aerosmith's excellent new autobiography "Walk this Way". By the way, if your a fan buy it. It is a must read.

The following is a word for word transcription of a quote from Joe Perry on page 222 regarding their experience with Kiss during their 1974 Get your Wings tour.

Joe Perry: We played with Kiss a bunch of times. They're doing heavy makeup, smoke and firebombs. And we're going, "What the fuck is this? Are we gonna have to dress like this? What is happening in this fuckin business?" We saw the response they were getting, putting on this show. People went nuts because it's impossible not to when some guy is breathing fire. It wasn't about music at all. We were flipping out because we were struggling.

We played with Kiss in a parking lot in Marion OH. They'd have their pyro and smoke and then we'd come out, five drunk guys arguing between songs about what to play next. Plus, Kiss had this fuckin attitude. Our road crew got in fights with theirs. Knives got pulled backstage over times or stage room. They had a cutthroat scene going. The competition was intense, but there was also camaraderie. Ace was in the bag all the time, Gene was the businessman, the drummer was a nice guy who liked to do coke. They were good people surrounded by shit. That was Kiss.

Also with all the rumours surrounding Bruce Fairbairn as a potential producer for the next Kiss studio here's what Tom Hamilton had to say:

"It's hard to hammer away the fact that Permanent Vacation was the first record that Aerosmith ever did basically clean. Or that we all knew this album was do-or-die. Or that it was the first time we worked with BF, a very big, no bullshit, in-focus, demanding producer who made sure the conditions were right to let the creativity happen. I mean this guy had the ability to make us play better than even we thought we could. A lot of it was painful, because we gave up some control, big time (outside writers to prop up the songwriting). We made a decision that we wanted to come back, reestablish ourselves, and that ended up taking priority. That's how we made the album that saved our career."

This scenario sounds familiar doesn't it, let's face it the next Kiss record has to be excellent or the tour might falter.

KAOL II "Creatures of the Net" tribute CD update
    From: Kathy LaBonte
I have some new developments for everyone regarding the KAOL 2: Creatures of The Net CD.
Robert Conte, of KISS remasters fame, has written a good portion of the liner notes AND has also recorded a song for the new KAOL disc. He was here in LA this weekend to do a radio interview for the Kissin Time radio show with Drew Harris and Joe Fortunato. We all went to lunch after the taping where he gave me the liners and a rough mix of the tune. Needless to say, both are great. The song he did is "Save Your Love' and though the tape he gave me doesn't have vocals yet, the music is fantastic. He should be finished with it by next week. Both Jheni (CldJhen@aol.com) and I spent a good portion of the afternoon with him and had a great time. Robert makes a great addition to KAOL in both his writing and musical contributions.

David Lee Roth on Gene Simmons
    From: Chris Jackson
This morning David Lee Roth appeared on the Howard Stern show to promote his new autobiography and "Best Of" album. He briefly answered Stern's question about whether Gene Simmons really discovered Van Halen. He said that Gene helped them cut their first demo, but then, if I heard this correctly, claimed that Gene seemed to have an ulterior motive of trying to get Eddie Van Halen to join KISS! It sounds quite bizarre and may be discussed more in Dave's book.

On the up side, they're going to have a sticker on the plastic that says "limited tour edition" or something similar to that.

KISS in new Maximum Guitar Magazine
    From: Charles Crossley
There's an article about Kiss, in the new Maximum Guitar magazine. It's about Kiss during the making of "Music from the Elder", it shows some cool pics of Paul, Eric, Gene, and Ace in their respective make-up, and tells about how Gene was tired of writing about sex, and how Paul wanted to show the world that Kiss had talent, and things like that, it's only a couple of pages long, but it's a good article.

Barry Levine / Robert Conte store appearance
    From: Greg Muse
I went to the Barry Levine/Robert Conte signing at Golden Apple Comics last night. The guys from Go Figure were there as well promoting the second issue of Go Figure. There were a couple of vendors selling vintage Kiss items including the best set of original Kiss dolls I have ever seen, as they should have been, the guy wanted 1,500.00 for the set. The had quite a few sets of the new action figures, most of which were gone by the end of the night. There was one vendor who was selling the collector plates and the figurines. The signed plate was not ready yet but they had a prototype version there and it looked really cool. I thought the best buy was the unsigned plate for $30.00. The signed figurine was also just a prototype version that you could order. They also had the mini figurine there for $89.00. They had the baseball as well. The Love Gun outtake Barry Levine litho was there for $50.00 and it looks hot. Needless to say I spent alot of money last night. Barry and Robert arrived on time and there was a small crowd of people there. I must say that both Barry and Robert were very nice and seemed genuinely interested in what the fans had to say. I spoke with Robert for quite a long time about the remasters, the trading cards, the Levine lithos, etc. He said that McFarlane Toys are going back to the letter stands with the action figures. He also said that the Spirit Of 76 litho will be printed later this month and that the next one, The Empire State Shot will be out after the first of the year. He also said that Barry will be doing an expanded version of the Kiss Years. Needless to say but it was an excellant night and a great chance to meet some interesting people that are involved with Kiss.

KISS in new Metal Edge (Jan issue)
    From: The KISS Asylum
I just got the new Metal Edge magazine in the mail today (it will hit the newstands in a week or so) and there is a GREAT interview with Paul, Gene and Bruce on the "Carnival of Souls" album. There are some cool studio pictures shown as well. Also there is a page on Bruce talking about his recent projects and a 2 page track-by-track discussion on the "Carnival of Souls" album. Also there is a half page article on Gene Simmons's Birthday Party which shows pictures of the infamous Gene and Shannon cake as well as pictures from others that attended. . On the last page of this issue there is an Advertisement for the new Ace Frehely Signature model Les Paul. Great stuff here! Here are a few highlights / teasers of the Interview. I want to encouage ALL to get this magazine when it comes out!!
  • Gene believes that the album will not confuse anyone bacuase the cover and back cover of the album make it clear who is on it.
  • Gene made mention that he did not think the packaging would include lyics. =(
  • Paul says that the lyrics on the album reflected what was going on in their life at that time.
  • Gene said the next single after "Jungle" could be "Hate" or "Childhood's End"
  • Bruce said that Ezrin pushed to make the COS album heavy and dark.
  • Gene expects KISS to be recording the KISS '98 album in late October / Novermber. And according to this interview KISS has a producer in mind but would not say. But Gene did say that have NOT worked with this guy before but he has been to the KISS shows so he knows the vibe and feel
  • The idea of the new KISS '98 album is to pick up where they left off before the break up. KISS wants this album out in the Spring to then tour in the summer
  • Boxed set is coming but not this year
  • On Alive IV after the next tour Gene says that is a possibility
  • There is a TON more in this interview then the snipets I mentioned here. This is just a short list. I don't want to give all of it away. Lots more good stuff in there. I strongly suggest you pick up this issue when it hits the stands (sometime next week). Great, great stuff from Metal Edge!!!

News on Ace Frehley Signature Guitar
    From: Steve Corral
Just saw and played the new (production model) Ace Les Paul at Guitar Center. I was quoted, "out the door" (tax included), for $3100 with the deluxe Gibson hard shell case. Musician's Friend catalog (www.musiciansfriend.com) has it on sale for for $3029 without case (it lists for $5099) and there's no tax. The only difference between the custom shop models and the production models are:

  • Bell plate/truss rod cover: cust-gold, prod-black plastic
  • Pickups: same pickups, different pole pieces, smoking pickup still absent
  • Headstock: cust-head inlay, prod-smaller head decal
  • Flametop: same AA flame maple top
  • Fret markers: same lighting bolt inlays
  • Gibson pretty much made the same guitar for a couple grand cheaper. It's about the same price as a production Les Paul Custom so you don't need to buy a regular one and route a middle pickup into it for the "Ace" look.
Click here to see the Gibson Les Paul page with more info on the guitar
[KA Note: pict above is an Ad for Ace's new guitar. It comes from Metal Edge Magazine.]

More on the Ace Frehley signature guitar
    From: Matt Chasteen
The correct differences between the Ace Frehley Les Paul Custom Shop and production line models are as follows:
(1)Custom: chrome trus rod/rear pot covers* ALL hand-engraved w/ autograph & 'Ace' playing card
    (2)SAME pickups/*SAME pole peices.
(3)Custom has "AAA"(triple application) flame top while production model has "AA" flame top(less one treatment)
(4).**PLUS Custom Shop models have Ace autograph/'Ace' card on black textured slim line case with PURPLE crushed velvet**Very different from the production line Les Paul cases.
(5)Finally the hand carved and inlayed "Ace head" on the Custom Shop model is a thing of beauty(not a decal)..As you know, only 300 of the original Custom Shop models were made.I lucked out and got #18 about 6 months ago($4300.00),but have since seen one selling for $6800.00 in Florida. It plays like absolute butter.Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night just to look at it

KISS Action Figure comment from Goldmine
    From: Jerry Cornish
I'm surprised this hasn't been reported sooner, but here is a short segment in the October 24, 1997 issue of Goldmine:

    No Projectile Blood?
Who would have thought that by centuries' end the KISS Army would be stronger than the Red Army? In their seemingly insatiable thirst for all things KISS, a set of recently released KISS actions figures, similar to ones released in the late '70s, are trading at 3 times their retail price simply because collectors can't wait to have them. The 7 1/4" figurines, which show the members of KISS in full '70s regalia, are each mounted on one of the four letters of the band's name, and when the 4 figurines are put together they unite to form the band's logo. With such additional perks as projectile drumsticks on the Peter Criss doll, this is a must have item for KISS fans. In the two months since their release, Arizona-based McFarlane Toys have been unable to meet demand, sparking trade prices of $25 or more for the $8.99 action figures.

    KISS Rocks Chattanooga
    From: Tuck Watts
The new KISS single "The Jungle" was heard locally on 96.5 "The Mountain" this afternoon. This is big for local KISS fans as Chattanooga radio has traditionally ignored the band's music. Fans in the area should call constantly to request the song at (423) 642-9636. Let's make this song so big that they won't be able to ignore KISS any longer.

    Request from Mercury Records
    From: Mike Brandvold
I talked to Mercury Records radio promotion this morning and they had a specific request for the KISS Army!
K-Rock, WXRK, in New York is still deciding if they want to play Jungle, and Mercury wants use to call them and request KISS!
    The request line is 1-888-434-1997.
This is a toll-free call in the US, so everyone call and tell them that the Online KISS Army wants to hear KISS!
Note: Well it appears that even thou 888 is a toll-free number from anywhere, KRock has blocked calls from outside of the NYC area, so....here is the office/business line, maybe they have a non-toll free request line or a fax line. 212-314-9230

K-Rock Plays KISS! (the Army has spoken!)

    Ace Frehley Signature Guitar
    From: Dan Bradshaw
KISS fans should be proud to here this bit of news. I just received Musician's Friend's latest catalog and the Gibson Ace Frehley Signature Les Paul has been added to their merchandise!! It's a beautiful axe and there is a large detailed description of it. They called it the "Ace of Guitars". Just thought all the KISS fans would like to know that KISS has spread to thousands of people now because of this catalog. It's nice to see that they know what real quality music is.

KISS: Coming Soon to Spencer Gifts II
From: Ken An acquaintance of mine who works for Spencer's just went to their new product expo in Florida. He was keeping an eye out for KISS stuff for me. He mentioned a few other things that may be coming to a Spencer's this fall.
    1) Animated Christmas ornaments. One for each member.
    2) An animated stage that he couldn't really describe in detail to me. He did say that there are only two members on the stage (probably means two versions). They would cost $125 to $150.
    3) More types of KISS toys (can't remember details).
He also said that the neon signs are supposed to be in around Nov. 1.

    KISS Pool Cues merchandise
    From: Chris Plitnick
I just wanted to let you know that I just picked up the KISS Pool Cue at Spencer's last night. It's a two piece cue: the bottom half is partially black with the Rock-n-Roll Over fire ring and inside it "KISS" is printed. Their signatures are also laser etched on the cue. They didn't have too much else: the mousepads, set of Halloween masks, one candle, calendar and a porcelain Paul. The pool cue is pretty cool.

No "Carnival of Souls" release in Sweden today
    From: Johan Wall
COS will be released in Sweden on 27th of October, not the 13th. I called several big recordstores yesterday and many of them didn't know about the album, and no one knew the exact release date, so I called PolyGram and they gave me this info.

    Attention Australian KISS Fans
    From: Greg Davies
As you all may know COS will be released on 3rd November in Australia. AT PRESENT TIME POLYGRAM DOES NO T HAVE ANY PLANS WHATSOEVER TO RELEASE "The Jungle" as a SINGLE. They have also said that there will be little promotion for COS, if there is any at all. What this means is that promotions have been left up to the fans again. If you are interested in promoting "The Jungle" you could do the following:

e-mail "Rage" at: comments@your.abc.net.au (Be sure to write MESSAGE TO "RAGE" under SUBJECT)

PolyGram were uncertain whether there would be a film clip for "The Jungle" the last time I spoke to them. Rage may know the details so contact them

e-mail Triple J FM, who have been known to play KISS from time to time. Their address is : mail@triplej.abc.net.au Triple J FM also have a web site from which you can actually submit requests. This address is: http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/requests.htm

Good luck & hopefully with your help, we'll see "The Jungle" out as a single (hopefully!!!) and COS will be a great success!

    KISS Sighting / Gene's house
    From: STRANGWAYZ
Tonight (10/12) on "Access Hollywood" they interviewed Shannon Tweed.....They were actually in Gene's house.....They showed his kids, took a tour of the house, backyard and Gene's guest house / office. Shannon said that they were going to remodel the whole house....I thought it was a pretty modest house for the big guy.

    KISS Sighting / Gene's house (report2)
    From: ozone@webspan.net
On the NBC TV Show Access Hollywood tonight they had a special show on celebrity homes. One of segments was on the home of Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed. Shannon gave a tour of their house but Gene was nowhere to be seen. She said that they are going to soon tear down this house and build a new one in the same location (Beverly Hills) because it is the only home the kids have ever known. She even took Access Hollywood to the guest house/office in the back where Gene keeps all his KISS stuff. Shannon called it "Gene's shrine to himself" They showed the KISS leather boots with their faces on them, and Shannon tried on the new Gene Halloween mask. Also seen were Gene's kids running around.

    KISS Sighting / Gene's house (report3)
    From: Jerry Cornish
Did anyone else just catch Access Hollywood? Well, they went to Gene & Shannon's house to take a look around. They toured the kitchen, bedroom and the kids' bedroom as well as Gene's KISS office out back. Shannon and Nick were jumping on a trampoline in the back yard and Shannon locked Sophie in a huge birdcage! Gene and Shannon are going to tear down the house next spring and rebuild on the same lot. They will lease nearby to supervise the construction.

    Black Diamond 2 book excerpts

    Gene Simmons Mask
    From: robstar@webspan.net
The home shopping network QVC featured the Gene Simmons mask on their Halloween special last night. They said this mask is a very, very hot item for this Halloween! KISS continues to dominate!!

    "Jungle" Rocks on Z-Rock
    From: James Kalkhoff Jr.
I thought Kiss fans might be interested in knowing that I just finished listening to the Z-Rock 50 which is a weekly countdown for the top 50 "Hard Rock" songs on the radio and "Jungle" was the highest debuting song this week at #37. After the song played the DJ commented on how it was recorded before the reunion and it included Bruce and Eric. He also told it's release date and said listeners should definitely pick it up because it rocks. The Z-Rock 50 airs Sundays from 4-8p.m. on 106.7 krqr in Chico, California and is also broadcast on the internet using real audio at www.z-rock.com I can't wait to see if it makes it to #1 like "Unholy" did a few years ago when "Revenge" first came out.

    KISS Action Figure News
    From: GodoThndr
I went to the Motor City Comic Convention yesterday just outside of Detroit. McFarlane Toys were there (they are based in this area), and I asked the rep what the next waves of KISS figures will be. He said they will be mini dioramas with two figures each. One will be the KISS member and the other will be their alter ego from the Psycho Circus comic (ie: Gene and the Ringmaster). These will be done in a smaller scale than the the other figures (the same scale as the McFarlanes Monsters series if you have seen them around). Don't look for these until next June. I would not expect a stage from them. They seem more commited to doing toys based on fantasy instead of the actual KISS

    "Jungle" Rocks in Wichita
    From: BF28452@aol.com
I finally heard "Jungle" on our local rock station 96.3 KRZZ. They played "Detroit Rock City" and then said here is the most requested song BY FAR this afternoon and played "Jungle". After it was over the d.j. said it was a KRZZ exclusive and how it was brand spankin' new stuff. Yeah right!

    "Jungle" Rocks in Dallas
    From: Frank
Before the DJ played Jungle he teased the audience by saying they were going to play some new old KISS. After the song he explained how it was the last CD with Eric and Bruce. He said he liked the song a lot. As far as it getting a lot of airplay I couldn't say for sure since I don't listen to the radio that much. But my friends and I have heard it about four times in the last two weeks when tuning in occasionally. The DJs have said that they were getting positive feedback. A friend of mine who isn't into KISS, but is still a friend regardless, said it was the best KISS song he had ever heard including the classics. He said it sounded modern.

    "Jungle" Rocks in Calgary
    From: Paul
Local classic rock station Cjay 92 is playing "The Jungle" every couple of hours. They are also reporting it to be one of the most requested songs. Can't wait for this song to be KISS's first ever number 1 song!

Bruce Kulick newsbit from the AP wire
    From: Tuck Watts WRCB-TV
Foud this on the AP Newswire this morning when I reported to work... I know there is a ton of Kulick news going around and there isn't much new here, but I thought you could probably use it anyway.

JOHN CORABI/BRUCE KULICK: A UNION OF KINDRED SPIRITS (Los Angeles)-- It's the union of two guys whp know what it's like to step into someone else's shoes. Bruce Kulick (KOO'-lik), former guitarist for Kiss, and John Corabi, who replaced VInce Neil as singer for Motley Crue, are forming a band together. Of course, there are challenges any time established musicians form a band, but Kulick says the biggest problem they face right now -- they don't have a name. He says they're researching trademarks and hope to come up with one soon. He says "it's not as easy to get a name like 'Kiss' as it was... maybe 20 years ago."
The Corabi/Kulick project is due for release early next year.

KISS Asylum Chat -- Trivia Chat
Just a note to say that the Trivia chat we had last nite in the KISS Asylum Live Chat room was really great! If you were not there you missed out. Bob Rodrick, of KISS Fact of the Week fame, had planed on doing 20 questions but the response in the room was so great that we ended up doing over 30. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot about KISS. I strongly urge those fans that like to talk KISS to come to more chats. I am hoping to get another Trivia Chat for November, so keep watching the Chat Schedule on the live chat page for that information. Remember, we have a KISS Asylum chat every Tuesday nite at 10pm EST. Also from what I am told fans are in that room every evening to talk about KISS. Make sure to stop by and hang out here at the KISS Asylum. It is a fun place to be!! =)

    "Jungle" Rocks in Tallahassee!
    From: Mzcharisma
That's Right!! Tallahassee based radio station GULF 104 (WGLF) has been rockin' North Florida and South Georgia for several weeks now by blastin' "The Jungle" in heavy rotation! Though I had been relentlessly e-mailing the station (which is the closest cool station to my little "Mayberry" in South Georgia) requesting "The Jungle," imagine my surprise when they actually started playing it one day while I was home on my lunch break!! And to my complete delight they didn't just put it back on the shelf after that first airing, but have slipped it into the regular play list!!!! The DJs on all shifts seem to be really supporting the song (playing it about once every 4 hours or so), and there seems to be a fair amount of requests coming in for it here as well! Visit GULF 104's website at www.gulf104.com and encourage them to keep spinning the killer new KISS song "The Jungle!!"

    "Jungle" Rocks in Omaha!

The overnight DJ, who is a huge KISS fan, found out about it over a week ago, and convinced his boss to allow it airtime. It's now in their rotation! On Tuesdays, the radio station always plays two songs by the same artist in a row, and he commented that "Jungle" and "Hate" would make a great Two-For! Let's hope the "Hate" single comes out due to the response for "Jungle"

    KISS Australia News
    From: Greg Davies
FINALLY! I'VE SPOKEN TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT!
I spoke to a Mercury rep from PolyGram Sydney yesterday. She informed me that the official release date for COS is NOT 28th Oct. THE OFFICIAL AUSSIE RELEASE DATE IS 3rd November. "The Jungle" will NOT be released as a single, and there is NO video for the song. The Mercury rep also said that there will be little promotion for COS, if any is done at all.
All remasters are available in Australia now. EXCEPT for "Double Platinum", which has been delayed. When I asked the Mercury rep why it has been delayed, her reply was "It has something to do with a limited edition cover or special artwork!" Could we be getting the rumoured gatefold edition??? Who knows? The release date is not solid, but estimated at early to mid November.

"Carnival of Souls" album cover description
    From: Jarod
Man, I about pissed my pants when I checked in at the radio station today and saw KISS on the cover of the latest FMQB (radio trade magazine Friday Morning Quarterback). Unfortunately there's no story inside about them...the cover is always just an advertisement, but that's a good sign that Mercury is willing to shell out the bucks for the most expensive placement for the single ad. It had picture of the guys in a rehearsal room setting...doesn't sound like the pic someone else mentioned, because you can see Gene's full face. Eric is sitting at a small drumset, and the rest of the guys are holding (or leaning on in Gene's case) their respective instruments. There is what looks like it could be the album cover in the bottom right corner of the page, but it's the same picture that's above it so that goes against what someone else said the cover looked like...but the bottom picture had the logo in the upper right corner with "Carnival Of Souls The Final Sessions" at the bottom middle of the picture.

The ad clearly lists the band members names and insturments. Somewhere on the cover it had "Jungle" and some of the radio stations that are playing it listed. On the inside where they give a synapsis of some of the singles that are being worked that week, there is a picture of the radio single for "Jungle" which just has "Jungle" written on it and 2 tracks...first one the radio edit and second one the full version...no picture. Then it gives a little description of the song and what stations have added it...these are also paid advertisements from the record company. All indications from the cover and the inside are that the song is called simply "Jungle" and not "The Jungle". That's about it.

KISS '98: Producer - Bruce Fairbairn!
    From: MTVOnline
Note: McGhee Entertainment denies this report about Bruce Fairbairn!
Kiss Keeps Going -- And Going
October 8 [10:00 EDT] -- It looks like Kiss will be heading into the studio with producer Bruce Fairbairn sometime in the next few months.

A source close to Fairbairn says the band is currently writing songs for the effort, and other sources close to Kiss confirm that the reformed original members plan on releasing a full album of new material next year. Fairbairn's credits range from Van Halen to Aerosmith to Bon Jovi to the Cranberries.

The previously unreleased "Carnival of Souls," the album that Kiss recorded nearly three years ago prior to the current reunion, is due out October 28 on Polygram. A single, "Jungle," has already been released to radio. COS has been widely available as a bootleg.

Meanwhile, Bruce Kulick, who was a member of the Kiss band that recorded COS--he was subsequently turfed along with drummer Eric Singer when Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley reunited with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss--is about to record an album with John Corabi, ousted from Mötley Crüe under similar conditions. Corabi found himself a 'fifth wheel" when that band reunited with original singer Vince Neil. The new Kulick/Corabi collaboration is as yet untitled, but they'll be releasing the record on the Mayhem label next Spring.

In other news, a $6 million lawsuit has been filed against Kiss by a fan saying his was injured when Paul Stanley smashed his guitar on stage and threw the pieces into the audience. Robert Donahue was reportedly hit in the face with a foot-and-a-half-long piece of the instrument and ended up with a broken nose. There was a bright spot, though. Stanley autographed the offending piece of wood for the fan before he was carted off to the hospital.

Also, Daily Variety reports that Kiss is discussing a feature-length live action biographical film with "Rocky" producer Gene Kirkwood. Kirkwood told the trade magazine that his plan was to get actors (he mentioned Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp as examples) to play the bandmembers backstage while featuring the real band in make-up live on stage for the concert scenes. Kiss has already been the subject of an animated short courtesy of Spawn creator Todd McFarlane.

Finally, as Halloween approaches, an unconfirmed report courtesy of Spin says the band is stopping production of their rubber Halloween masks because they are dissatisfied with the product. Paul Stanley is said to be particularly upset because his mask makes him appear fat, a mortal sin in his books. The report is credible given the multitudes of changes requested for the Kiss action figures also produced by the above-mentioned McFarlane. Entertainment Weekly reported in July that the dolls were delayed because Gene wanted his hair pouffier, Paul wanted his lips more puckered, Ace said his head looked too small, and Peter wanted to add a tail.

I've made an update on 495 today and I just got off the phone with PolyGram Records in Oslo, NORWAY. The release date for COS is set to 27th of october, and as for now the single will not be released in Norway, but it will be available for import! I asked him about promotion about the album, and they said that they have poster, banners to every music store in Norway, and Paul & Gene said that they wanted to promote the album in Norway by giving phone interviews etc. No TV commercials yet, but they might put some ads in Newspapers.

    "Jungle" Rocks in Seattle
    From: KISS Vault Butler
Yes, it is official now!! While listening to 99.9 KISW, Seattle's hard rock station, they have something called "9 in a row", that is, they play nine songs in a row, and if they don't play nine in a row, they pay the first caller to point that out $999! Well, anyway, it was the 4th song of nine and I suddenly heard Paul's voice on a song I never heard before. I immediately knew it had to be "Jungle". Well, sure enough, it was! AND, they even added the song to their playlist, which means they're going to be playing it often! You can visit KISW's web site here: http://www.kisw.com/

    KISS Merchandise newsbit
    From: Charlie Zost
Just wanted to let you know that inside this month's edition of "Joy of Collecting" magazine there is a little story about a KISS plate that Gartlan USA is selling. They have several items they are selling including the plates, figurines, baseballs, and a couple other things. I got a plate and a baseball. One of the plates is 10" with gold outline and sigs of the band. It sells for $275 and they are only making 1,000 of them. There is an 8" version w/o the gold or sigs that costs $30. I got the less expensive version and a baseball. There are several other items w/ sigs that are limited editions. All are pretty expensive. The woman I spoke to said that the KISS merch is far outselling anything else that they offer right now. She said that she had done nothing but take KISS orders for the past couple days. Very cool! It's good to know that the band's popularity is not waning since the tour ended. The number to get in touch with them is: (800)808-5222. They said that orders will begin shipping on the 15th of Roctober and that they should arrive within 7-10 days of shipment.

    "Jungle" Rocks in Orlando!
    From: Rob
The Orlando station, Rock 101.1, played the Jungle yesterday for the first time. The DJ asked everyone to stop what they are doing for a second, and turn your radio up really loud. "We have a new song from KISS" They went on the play the song, and after the song was over, he explained about the album and how it had been bootlegged around, and it was recorded with the line-up of Bruce, Gene, Paul and Eric. The DJ also said it was nice to hear a clean sounding copy of COS, as he had a bootleg tape of it also. The DJ sounded really excitied about the song. Later that day I heard them play it again, they said it was heavily requested and the phones have been ringing off the hooks. They also used "Jungle" as the background music for some rock news feature they have. The news feature included a story about the man who is sueing KISS becuase he got hit in the head with parts of Paul Stanleys guitar. They said they had an interview with the guy and played a tape of a baby cring. Funny Stuff.

"Carnival of Souls - The Final Sessions" Album cover?
    From: Tom
I saw a full page ad in a music biz trade paper today. The ad shows the cover, which is you all know by now, a shot of the band in a room with thier instuments. Singer has his little stripped down Sean Kenney drum kit(what a coincidence!), Bruce with a beard, G&P looking the same. On the bottom it says in red CARNIVAL OF SOULS, and underneath in white it says "The Final Sessions". The ad stresses it's the last album from the B/E lineup. Just thought you'd all like to know.

KISS: Remasters (series 4) released today in USA
    From: Ron Taylor
Just picked up the last four remasters this morning and as expected, they are terrific! Dynasty features a white CD with the insert unfolding into the poster that came with the album back in '79. That pic as you may remember was also on the center spindle of the album itself..that round picture (as though it were on the album) is included in the insert booklet. The colorful KISS logo that was on the album sleeve is included in the insert. The cover pic as well as the poster pic are very well reproduced..very clear..looks great!

Unmasked has all of the original artwork that was on the album. Like Dynasty, the insert booklet unfolds into the poster that was included with the album in '80. The reproduction of the poster and cover is slightly darker than the original..and again the round center spindle pic is included on the insert.

Music from The Elder features a black CD with yellow lettering. The insert opens to show the pic of the table, chairs and candle that was featured as the gatefold of the album in '81. It's also a treat to have the original song sequence..just like the original album featured. The cover pic looks great!

Creatures Of The Night looks absolutely fantastic! The cover pic is nice and clear! The CD is black with pink lettering and the insert opens to reveal the lyrics that were originally printed on the album sleeve. I can't tell you how great it is to have the original cover back!!

    From: Julian Gill
Just spoke to Mercury, London and my Carnival Of Souls giveaway is a go. However, no product will be available until Oct. 20/1 so the draw will be held on Oct. 25th. I'll be getting 8 COS CDs and promotional posters (number unknown) for the giveaway.

    In other news:
Mercury has confirmed COS' UK release date as October 28th. (yeah one day later than they said last time, but New York wanted the international releases at the same time as the US - He thought Japan's release date was then, and not 10/8....).
He also mentioned the Mercury, New York are considering releasing "Hate" as a second radio-single off COS, depending on the performance of "The Jungle" - which seems to be doing well.
He also confirmed that no radio-singles are going to be issued in the UK for COS. :( But I just wonder....

    Bruce Kulick Press Release
From: Paula Hogan / Mayhem Fierce Records
BRUCE KULICK AND JOHN CORABI UNITE BAND DEBUT OUT EARLY 1998
Los Angeles: Former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick and Motley Crue vocalist John Corabi have begun pre-production for their debut album set for release by New York independent Mayhem Records in early 1998. The new group, still untitled, will record the album at Rumbo Studios in mid-October with mixing scheduled for early November.

The project, together nearly a year, has been the focus of widespread media attention since Kulick and Corabi's split with their previous outfits. Fueled by Entertainment Weekly, Metal Edge, and major daily and internet coverage, the band, also featuring bassist Jamie Hunting and drummer Brent Fitz, have kept much of their musical activities undercover. With the upcoming recording schedule, however, the band look to finally answer and dispel unresolved questions and comments regarding their collaboration.

"I'm very happy about moving on," says Kulick. "I think it is destiny that John and I are together. We have a lot to prove to our fans with this band. Right now, we're mainly focused on proving what we can do to ourselves."

Promotional activities are set to begin shortly after the album's completion. A fan chat is already scheduled for late November with America On-line. The 2- hour chat will be available to internet users through an International Relay Channel. Also planned is an extensive media tour that will bring members to New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Colorado Springs, Seattle, Dallas, Toledo, Phoenix and Milwaukee. The band will embark on a extensive worldwide tour shortly after the album's release.

Songs confirmed for the album as of press time include "Old Man Wise," "Try," "Around Again," "Heavy D," "October Morning Wind," "Do You Think About Me," and "Tangerine." Three more songs will be recorded for the album.

    New Bruce Kulick Demo news
    From: Dave607
I heard 4 rough mixes of new songs they have. It is not known if they'll make the record or not. But these 4 songs are GREAT!!! I can't wait until the CD comes out!!!
The new music sounds like a natural progression for both Bruce & John. If you listen to John's Crue CD & Kiss "Carnival of Souls" (w/ Bruce) it sounds like the next logical step. This isn't something from left field. Its basic ROCK.
    From: Kulicker
I agree that it sounds like a natural progression for them both. I really don't hear that much of a Kiss"ish" sound(possibly COS"ish"). John's voice sounds better than ever to me and of course Bruce gets better all the time. This music also has a sort of Zeppelin"ish", rooted-in- the-70's-REAL-ROCK-AND-ROLL familiar-but-new-and-exciting sound. It is the best thing I have heard in years! REALLY!! It is gonna blow everybody away....

I also wanted to mention that the new single "The Jungle" is now playing on 96.3 KRZZ here in Wichita Kansas.

"Carnival of Souls" Ad in "Metal Hammer" magazine
From: Florian / KISS Deutschland / KISS Asylum News Germany
Today I have read "Metal Hammer", a German heavy/rock magazine. There was a big advertise for COS. It was black and in the middle was the German KISS Logo. Below was an explanation who played on this record and that it will be released on October 13th and of course that you have to buy it to complete your collection! By the way, can anybody help me to find stores in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco,Las Vegas or Chicago where I can buy the Kiss Action Toys? KISS mention
    From: KISS Vault Butler
I have two news bits I'd thought I'd share with you. Tonight (10/1) I was watching Beavis And Butthead, while during the episode "Party", it came time for a music video. Anyway, the video was the Mighty Mighty Bosstones version of Detroit Rock City. I knew it had to be Kiss related, because, all throughout the video there was nothing but Kiss stuff in it. The only problem I didn't like was the fact that Beavis and Butthead always talk through the videos, so I couldn't really here! I didn't even know they made a video for that song! Beavis and Butthead themselves didn't actually comment on Kiss during the video, though. So, next time your watching Beavis and Butthead, keep an eye out for the "Party" episode.
The second thing I'd like to let you know is that there is a very very very small Kiss related mention in some Guitar World magazines I was looking at: In the newest issue of Guitar World (November 1997) they mention Ace Frehley as the famous Taurus of the Month. They list a famous rock star for each zodiac sign each month. So, Ace was famous Taurus for Nov. 1997, BUT are they any other Kiss members mentioned in Guitar World Zodiac?. Yes! Gene Simmons was the famous Virgo of the Month in the June 1997 issue of GW. Just thought I'd let you fans know about this! I'll keep an eye out for Paul and Peter's name in the zodiac section!
