Review of PAXTV's coverage of KISS at IBASH '99
From: JC
This review is based on PAXTV's airing of IBASH '99, not the Pixelon.com webcast. PAXTV did an excellent job covering IBASH '99 especially from a KISS fans perspective. While the WHO went on first and got the most coverage, most of the other performances were limited to only one or two songs at the most. KISS closed out the broadcast with 3 songs. Those songs were: Shout it Out Loud, Love Gun and, of course, Rock n Roll All Nite. God of Thunder, the 4th song on the set list was not broadcasted. As far as the performance is concerned it appeared to be all lip synched. The songs were slow and sluggish and did not have a "live" feel to them as they probably were recorded earlier without a live crowd. Yes the lip synching was a disappointment but was probably done because of Paul's current "Phantom of the Opera" run as well as the band's inactivity. However any KISS is better than no KISS and the performance was quite entertaining overall.

Toronto's Pantages KISSes Phantom Goodbye
From: RadioMoi
By Lisa Trainor -- RadioMoi Content Director/Editor
After ten years and over 4,000 performances, Toronto's Pantages Theatre will say goodbye to its most endearing guest - The Phantom Of The Opera. October 31 marks the final performance of the long-running Andrew Lloyd Webber-production with Kiss frontman Paul Stanley finishing out a 15-week run as the theatrical Phantom menace. When it was first announced that Stanley would step into the shoes made famous - some ten years ago - by Colm Wilkinson, critics were quick to dismiss the famous rocker before he uttered a single note. But the flashy frontman proved that his campy showmanship and over-the-top theatrics were welcome assets for this new career move. Not only did he hold his own with the current cast of seasoned stage veterans, but Stanley emerged from Tuesday night's performance as the star of the show. His vocal range was impressive and his stage presence as the deformed composer was both graceful and expressive. Obviously 27-plus years of prancing about a stage in platforms and spandex proved to be ample preparation for this foray into legitimate theatre. Unfortunately, such praise can't be offered for the rest of the evening's entertainment. Despite the lush magnificence of the Pantages Theatre, the elegantly ornate costumes and elaborate sets - the actual performance lacked most of the charm and finesse one would expect from such a long-running production. It seemed that the female leads were constantly trying to outshine the men in the cast (who were superb), and oftentimes came across sounding somewhat shrill - perhaps a result of casting pop vocalists in roles that involve a lot of operatic vocal skills. Vocal performances aside, the in-house orchestra seemed to lack the enthusiasm (and fine-tuning) that should have been apparent for such an emotionally-charged musical. For whatever reason, the music didn't sound as big, rich or impassioned as it should have. Despite these minor glitches, Toronto audiences are saying goodbye to a time-honored production full of drama, angst and high energy. It's just an added bonus that the Phantom's farewell performance will enjoy a final curtain call with a rock 'n' roll flair.

Paul Stanley ROCKLINE Radio Show Recap
From: Robert Weedman
Paul Stanley was on Rockline last night and for those fans that missed it, here are a few things Paul had to say. It sounds like he is really enjoying his role as the Phantom, and plans to continue in theater in the future, but said KISS is the next priority. The Phantom show ends October 31st. He has been doing 8 shows a week. Actually, there was more talk about Phantom than KISS. Sounds like the make-up he has to put on for the Phantom is rather detailed. Very different than applying KISS make-up. He said there will be another KISS tour, but not sure when. No talk of a new album. He said Peter, Gene and Ace will be meeting him later this week to discuss the future of KISS. Paul did sound a little unsure of what KISS will be doing next. It sounds like no plans for 2000 have been made, but thankfully there was no talk of a Farewell Tour. Even though I am pushing for it, I wasn't ready to hear about it officially! KISS will be playing a New Years Show in Vancouver! Other interesting tidbits include: Paul mentioned he was deaf in one ear. I've been a KISS fan 23 years. I never knew that! He called Gene his brother. Has known Gene over 30 years! Paul was only 17 when he and Gene recorded The Wicked Lester album that will be heard on a future box set. He defended all the KISS merchandise. "If you don't like it...tough!" When Paul is in KISS make-up he feels,"Fortified!" Someone called and asked what the highest score he ever got on a KISS Pinball Machine? Paul didn't really have an answer. Paul's most memorable moments of the Reunion Tour? The first time the Band came out during the Grammy Awards. (Paul said American Music Awards, but he meant Grammy Awards) He was just blown away at all the fans that came out for the reunion shows. Overwhelming. Over all the ROCKLINE show was very good. Could have done without the KISS songs they played. Do we really need to hear Rock and Roll all Night? Paul is really in theater mode these days, and doesn't seem too into KISS at the moment. Just the fact that he did ROCKLINE "solo" could be a taste of things to come. I was hoping that Paul could have given more KISS updates, but I think he knows as much as the fans do. No decisions have been made, but Paul for the first time, sounded like he is about to move on from KISS. "There is plenty of time for KISS" he said, but how much time? I'm not sure if I want to see the Demon on stage at 60! I say it's time for a Farewell Tour!

"Sound Off:" The Pulse of the KISS Army Online
From: KISS ASYLUM
Boy, little did we know what we were in for here at KISS ASYLUM when we debuted "Sound Off" on October 4th. Well, 23 days and 30 essays later it's clear that the KISS Army is more than ready to "Sound Off!" Here's a brief sample of some of the most recent additions:

  • All For The Sake Of $$$ "Sound Off" receives a visit from one of the Internet "Elders" in this essay. Hunter Goatley goes back a long way in online KISS fandom, having started the first ever KISS mailing list and the second ever KISS webpage on the world wide web. Unlike most fans, Hunter did not welcome the Reunion with open arms, and in fact predicted at the time it was announced that the Reunion would end up "ruining" KISS. Well, several years later -- as the wheels appear to be falling off the KISS wagon -- Hunter is back with his latest observations of how KISS screwed themselves and the fans.
  • Pros And Cons Of The Last Few Years In KISStory. From Carnival of Souls ("would have been a great Pearl Jam album"), to the Reunion Tour ("possibly the greatest tour of all time"), to Psycho Circus ("the most overhyped album of all time") and beyond, James Borgic presents his take on the Pros And Cons Of The Last Few Years In KISStory.
  • It Just Gets Worse. AJ is definately tired of hearing the same old song and dance from KISS. In fact, according to AJ, "We have seen all their tricks and we are tired of them milking it until the cow is dead. The cow has been dead for a while now and the carcas stinks."
  • KISS Meets The Phantoms Of The Studio. "Long before Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter were battling Abner Devereaux's bizarre cybernetic creations in the cult classic 1978 TV-movie, they were battling an even greater adversary: The Enemy Within." Yes, "Sound Off's" first two time author Chris Karam has decided to tackle that age old "studio musician" dilemma in this outing.

KISS New Year's Eve - Vancouver Rock City?
    From: David
Just thought I'd let everyone know that there has been a rumour that KISS would be playing their New Year's Eve show here in Vancouver, BC. The DJ here on CFOX FM 99.3 announced to listeners not to make plans for New Year's as there will be a HUGE concert announcement on Monday, November 1st at 7:15am. He went on to say that it will be in "Vancouver ROCK CITY." I guess it has been confirmed as of today that the promoter has been working on this for a while.

"Sound Off:" The Way It Should Be
    From: KISS ASYLUM
"Gene Simmons is a hypocrite." Leave it to KISS ASYLUM "Fact of the Week" feature author Bob Rodrick to start of his "Sound Off" essay in a low key fashion! Yes, using Gene's own interview quotes and behavior to analyze events of late, Bob dissects the Demon and takes him to task for having "gone way over his head in getting KISS involved in merchandising and other projects that really are not necessary." Mind you, Bob's not against merchandise in theory - the guy owns "over $12,000 worth of classic KISS merchandise" after all. It's the type and manner of merchandising going on since the Reunion that Bob finds so disappointing. However, rather than just complain, Bob also offers up some suggestions for the type of quality merchandise he believes the band should be putting out. Bob has created his take on the merchandise and The Way It Should Be.

"Sound Off:" The Pulse of the KISS Army Online
    From: KISS ASYLUM
The KISS Army Online continues to flood KISS ASYLUM with their essays, proving that they are more than ready to "Sound Off!" Here's a sample of some of the most recent additions:

  • Careful What You Wish For. Want to talk about eerie? Well Dave Scott has performed a very interesting analysis in his "Sound Off" that you might find down right disturbing! We all know KISS seems to be repeating some of the same mistakes this time around that contributed to the demise of the original line-up, but you might be surprised exactly to what degree history seems to be repeating itself!
  • Deep Down You Know I'm Right. Fred Battiato sure doesn't pull any punches in his "Sound Off" essay, and it's not just KISS he has his sights set on! While Fred does say, "I would be proud to call most KISS fans brothers", he also goes on to note, "but there is a large population of them that I would rather not associtate with. Too many were (are??) dorks with no lives, and couldn't get laid in a morgue."
  • Could Have Been The I-Mac Of The Music World. Aaron Nauman thinks that KISS really missed the boat with the second chance they were given in the "Psycho Circus" album and tour. Noting that Entertainment Weekly gave PC an "A" rating, which he pretty much agrees with, Aaron still points out that very few of the songs were "concert worthy." And concert worthy or not, that pretty much doesn't matter since: "the demon is just an overweight bass player who plays two strings, and Peter Criss couldn't play a drum solo or keep a beat to save his life."
  • Keep The Faith For twenty two years Alain Langlois has been a KISS fan. The way Alain sees it, KISS is no longer about being a rock group. KISS is a business, pure and simple. KISS might have started out as "superheroes" with larger than life personas, but they "took the magic out of the band. And if you take out the magic, you got nothing left but business."
  • Welcome To The KISS Toy Store - Can I Take Your Order? Anita Christian first remembers seeing KISS on TV in New Zealand performing "I Was Made For Lovin' You." She didn't think much more of KISS, really, until the Reunion Tour hit Auckland in '97. She went to see the show and was hooked.... on the music. KISS initially hooked Anita with their awesome music and stage show, but now they've lost her by not delivering either anymore.

KISS vs 'N SYNC in MTVs Celebrity Deathmatch
    From: Matt
MTV Celebrity Deathmatch #220. KISS will be on Celebrity Deathmatch this Thursday 10/28 at 10:00pm. It will be repeated again on Friday 10/29 at 6:00pm. In the main bout, it's rock versus pop as clay renderings of KISS take on the clay renderings of 'N SYNC in a wretched costume contest. KISS in their traditional make-up are surprised when 'N SYNC are dressed up in kiddie costumes. Little does KISS know that 'N SYNC's kiddie costumes contain hidden and deadly surprises. The horrifying competition goes back and forth until two fighters are finally left standing for the final decision.

    Second Coming DVD News
    From: Metal Edge

Detroit Rocks on DVD Before VHS
From: The Hollywood Reporter via Tyler Porter
    Story By: Scott Hettrick
LOS ANGELES (BPI) New Line Home Video is taking the unprecedented step of releasing a DVD version of teen comedy  "Detroit Rock City" three weeks before the VHS version. The DVD will debut in stores Dec. 21 for $24.98. The VHS version will be released to the rental market Jan. 11. New Line marketing executive Sarah Olson-Graves said that the strategy to release the DVD first was dictated by unusual circumstances. With this holiday season expected to be the biggest ever for sales of DVD players, New Line wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to get the DVD out when demand will be strong for the purchase and gift-giving of DVD titles to go with newly purchased machines. But late December is typically not a great time to release a new VHS rental title to the market, when only a couple of big hits usually perform well. The DVD of "Detroit Rock City" is filled with even more supplemental features than New Line's most ambitious DVD titles, such as  "Lost in Space" and the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. Where one of the Nightmare DVDs included a segment that can be watched in 3-D with glasses, a segment of  "Detroit Rock City" allows viewers to choose between four different camera angles while watching a concert performance by KISS in the movie. Another unique feature is an instructional segment featuring a step-by-step lesson by SongXpress on how to play the KISS song "Rock & Roll All Night." Also included is 15 minutes of deleted scenes and screen-test footage. The DVD will also offer three feature-length audio commentaries on alternate audio channels, including one featuring all four members of KISS and another by director Adam Rifkin. Other features include music videos, behind-the-scenes featurettes and voice-prompted interactive, on-screen navigation menus.

    "Sound Off" Continues To Roll
    From: KISS ASYLUM
We have quite simply been flooded with submissions for the "Sound Off" feature here at KISS ASYLUM. Since it's debut on October 4, 1999, we have featured 20 essasys in 19 days (with no end in sight)! Here's a brief sample of some of the most recent additions:

  • Is It Fun For Anyone Anymore? Author Steve Corral examines how serious Gene & Paul were when they said they'd hang it up when "it wasn't fun anymore" because he has serious questions if anyone is still having fun... including the band!
  • Nothing But Icing Will Make You Sick. Michael Papaleonardos points out that we're not getting the "meat and potatoes" (music) we deserve from KISS, and instead have been hand fed "nothing but" icing since the Reunion by all the continuous hype.
  • Make The World Take Notice Again... And Then Fade Away. Is KISS the ultimate rock and roll story, or the ultimate rock 'n roll cliche? "Sound Off" author Jace thinks KISS was "a young band who shocked and conquered the world with something special and individual, and then pissed it all away through a combination of self-indulgence, drugs, alcohol and meglomania."
  • Well, We're Still Waiting. Kent touches on a couple of points in his "Sound Off" essay, including an analysis of the (in his opinion) false allegation that Ace hasn't pulled his weight in KISS over the years.
  • It's More Expensive In Europe! If you think we have it bad here in the US with the cost of all the merchandise flooding the market, wait until you read Carol Hendrix's essay about the state of merchandise in Europe!

Diary of the Dallas KISS Expo '99
    From: Phil Hunt
I arrived Friday afternoon in the evening around 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn to stay for the Dallas KISS Expo. I arrived at the hotel and met up with Andre Augustine, former security and tour director for KISS on the Reunion and other tours. He was also checking in the hotel at the time. I had e-mailed him back and forth and let him know if he needed anything to let me know. So when I introduced myself, he asked me if I wanted to go with him to the Alice Cooper show as Eric Singer plays drums for him on tour. So we exchanged room numbers and unloaded in our rooms and met up in the lobby 30 minutes later and head over to the Bronco Bowl for the show. It was a funny thing to see Andre waiting outside the fence to get in, like most of us who have waited outside the fence to see or catch a glimpse of KISS or any other performer. That's what we were doing in the VIP section waiting on Eric.

"Sound Off": KISS Fans - Put Up Or Shut Up! & We Should Consider Ourselves Lucky
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Well, it was bound to happen. "Sound Off" essays questioning the loyalty of some of the KISS fans who have expressed concerns and criticisms of the band have finally washed ashore. But wait -- rather than making personal attacks, author Joe Spinelli has put forth some interesting points in defense of KISS in his essay "KISS Fans: Put Up Or Shut Up!" Toys and merchandise annoy you? Don't buy them. Didn't like Psycho Circus? Joe thinks its the best KISS album song for song since Creatures. Think KISS should "hang it up"? Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. Similarly, "Sound Off" author Ian Danter brings us the UK perspective, and is quite put off by all the "moaning and whinging from KISS fans" that he's read in some of the previous articles. Ian is of the opinion that we KISS fans don't seem to recognize a good thing when we've got it, and believes a lot of the criticism he's reading is approaching Nigel Tufnel/Spinal Tap levels of "nitpicking." Instead of looking for things to criticize, how about thinking back to how happy you were when you first heard about the reunion? Or how cool it was to have new music -- period! -- from KISS to listen to? By Ian's measure, "We KISS fans are standing too close to the band to be properly objective about their progress - let them introduce wrestlers, let them do Broadway musicals, let them do whatever they want" and Consider Ourselves Lucky.

New Line to include a Multi-Angle Feature On KISS song for DVD of "Detroit Rock City"
From: Video Store Magazine Oct. 17-23 via Mike Hogan
In a continuing effort to develop DVD's interactive capabilities, New Line Home Video will release a multiple-angle KISS song as one of the several supplements to its Platinum Series "Detroit Rock City" release, Streeting Dec. 1. The film about four suburban Ohio teenagers on a sojourn to Detroit climaxes at a KISS concert. In the "Cutting Room" section on the DVD, viewers can choose between four different camera angles of KISS performing an extended version of the film's ending song, "Detroit Rock City." "Each camera angle is in sync with the six-channel audio track so you can go from one angle to the next without missing a beat", says Michael Mulvihill, New Line's executive director of home video production and DVD development. The DVD also includes a multiple-angle version of the trademark KISS song, "Rock and Roll All Night." The angles cut between the performance at Detroit's Cobo Hall and the film's teenage garage band, "Mystery", performing the song. In another supplemental section of the DVD titled "The Confessional", viewers can see the chemistry between lead actors Edward Furlong and Natasha Lyonne during their original screen test. The "Detroit Rock City" DVD also has added material such as three audio commentary tracks with director Adam Rifkin and a dozen cast and crew members. "The goal we have with 'Detroit Rock City' is to continue the upward curve with our Platinum Series DVDs", Mulvihill says. "We wanted to push the envelope once again." article by Brett Sporich

Fan Feedback: "Spring KISS Tour Vs. Ace Frehley Solo Album"
    From: KISS ASYLUM
The number one complaint from fans about the "Psycho Circus" tour was the set list, and the fact that didn't show much variation from the previous reunion outings. In an effort to shake up the set list KISS is apparently considering bringing back some of the more popular songs from the non-makeup era if they tour again. Recently KISS ASYLUM asked, "Do you think that adding material from the non-makeup KISS era to the set list would work with the original lineup?" The Online KISS Army has spoken with a resounding "YES" they definately think adding the non-makeup material would work well with the original line up. The breakdown is as follows: Yes - 69.6% (2305 Votes); No - 25.8% (855 Votes); Not sure - 4.5% (151 Votes)

Recent rumors on the internet have concerned Ace possibly signing a record contract in the near future and wanting to put out a new album this spring. Gene & Paul have mentioned more than a few times that KISS plans on going back out on tour in the spring of 2000. KISS ASYLUM wants to know what the online fans want the most! "Would you rather KISS go back out on tour this spring with no new album or have an Ace Frehley solo album?" Click over to www.kissasylum.com/poll2/ to cast your vote and make your opinion heard. Also, don't forget to post up your comments about "Spring KISS Tour Vs. Ace Frehley Solo Album" on KISS ASYLUM's KISS Army Online bulletin board at www.kissasylum.com/bbs/

"Sound Off": Checklist For The Ultimate KISS Album
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Quite a few of our "Sound Off" submissions thus far have been critical of KISS for one reason or another. In his submission, Erik Bingham takes a constructive criticism approach by suggesting items to make up a "checklist" for the ultimate KISS album for the band's next effort. Some of Erik's suggestions make perfect sense and are hard to argue with: Everyone must contribute to the record; each member needs to play his own instrument; trust each other and work as a team. Others, while perhaps not universally agreed to, still sound logical: Forget about past success and focus on the present; don't record anything that can't be reproduced live; write songs together and jam in the studio. Then there are a few which are bound to be met with some raised eyebrows and "I don't think so's": Leave Bob Ezrin out of it; record one of Eric Carr's Songs; before the band enters the studio, they should go to family counseling; record a cover song. Agree with him or not, Erik has sure created one heck of a Checklist For The Ultimate KISS Album.

KISS ASYLUM - 4 Year Anniversary
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Today, October 17th, marks KISS ASYLUM's 4th Anniversary on the web. When we first started KISS ASYLUM we had no idea it would grow to the extent the website has today. As we close out 1999, KISS ASYLUM is poised to hit its 6 millionth visitor. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would be around to accumulate that many visits, but it is without a doubt a testament to the incredbile fan support from the KISS Army Online! A lot has happened with KISS over the last 4 years and we are glad KISS ASYLUM has been able to report the latest news and celebrate KISS with the online KISS fans.

Only a very few KISS websites are still around since the beginning of the KISS Reunion, and we are proud to still be helping provide news, entertainment, and "asylum" for the KISS Army Online. The reason we started KISS ASYLUM back in 1995 is just as valid today as it was then -- to give online fans a place to hang out and converse with other KISS fans and, most importantly, to keep the KISS Army Online updated with the latest KISS News "around the clock." And in doing so, we have always tried hard to present the news in an unbiased, unfiltered manner. Good, bad and ugly, you get it all at KISS ASYLUM.

    KISS Mention on MTV
    From: Eddie Kellar
There were a couple of KISS sightings this weekend on MTV. They were looking back at the old days of MTV and one of the female VJs told a story about how she dated Paul Stanley and they went out in New York City for milkshakes! They also showed clips of him in various KISS videos. There was also a piece about "MTV Unplugged" and how Alex Coletti (the main guy behind Unplugged) was very nervous the day before, not because he did a soundcheck with Paul Stanley, but because he "put himself out on a limb" to do the KISS reunion show and it didn't look like Ace and Peter were going to show up! The rest is Kisstory of course!

"Sound Off": A Trio Of Discontent
    From: KISS ASYLUM
The "Sound Off" submissions have really been heating up over the past week, and so we are able to bring you three new essays today! In this "trio of discontent" authors Dene Williams, Rick Spataro, and Steve Baginskie all examine reasons why they believe KISS has lost focus on what got them where they are... the fans.
KISSed Off - Down Under! Dene Williams is very specific in pin-pointing when it seems "the wheels were becoming loose" with KISS -- the recording of the Psycho Circus album ("KISS owed us more than what we got with Psycho Circus, a damn sight more."). From Ace & Peter being "replaced" by Bruce Kulick and Kevin Valentine, to the lack of variety in the set list, to the "insane" merchandising ("KISS had become a Gene Simmons ATM money machine"), to Paul's new found focus on the -- theater -- stage ("I think Paul knows that the horse has run its race and its time to go out to pasture."), to the demon wrestler ("We all know what a joke that was."), Dene has had it with KISS.
KISS Our Asses... We Made You! Based on the title, how do you think Rick Spataro really feels? But seriously, Rick brings up some points it is very hard to ignore concerning the way he feels the fans have been treated since the Reunion. His three areas of concern include: Ace's level of (un)involvement with the band... and Gene and Paul continuing to lie about it; the huge failure to deliver the goods on the Psycho Circus tour and its "cheesy" 3D effects; and Gene and Paul's increasing involvement in outside projects at the expense of focusing on KISS.
Wake Up Guys! Wanna know the real reason the Detriot Rock City movie flopped? Well, according to "Sound Off" author Steve Baginskie it's because KISS pissed off too many fans. And even though Steve's been a fan since the '70s, he counts himself among those pissed off fans. The disappointing Psycho Circus album ("Then the first listen -- no sex song! And only 10 tracks that don't even last an hour."), "disappearing" support tour, and band's general failure to "honestly take care of the fans that put the money in your pocket" are just a couple of the reasons Steve thinks KISS needs to Wake Up Guys!

"Sound Off": It's Make Up or Break Up & Alive II: Is It Live... Or?
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Though most of us hate taking tests, our newest "Sound Off" author Richard Hund has come up with a "KISS Test" everyone will enjoy taking, and get a kick out of to boot! According to Richard: KISS acts like that girlfriend/boyfriend who makes you feel really special, who says they'd do anything for you, who nearly blinds you (with their love and their devotion). But when you look objectively at the person, you sometimes see how what they do for you doesn't match what you actually need, or originally received, from them. Are you blinded by your relationship with KISS? Is it time to "reevaluate the relationship" and correct the weak spots? Most die-hard KISS fans like Richard are: 1) actually damn stupid, or 2) assumed to be stupid but actually remain thoughtful of what KISS lays out for them. Chris Karam correctly notes in his "Sound Off" that: One of the more controversial topics in KISS fandom is the amount of overdubbing that took place on KISS' classic live albums "Alive!" and "Alive II." Of the two, "Alive II" is a bit more controversial because there have been hints and allegations that the album is not live at all, or that parts of it aren't. Well, Chris analyzes just how "live" Alive II is, and supports his analysis by reference to a bootleg called "The Lost Alive II Album," which he contends contains the "Alive II" version of "Beth".... not recorded at L.A.'s Forum, but at Tokyo's Budakon in Japan! What do you think?

"Sound Off": KISS Of Death & Triad Of Thoughts
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Has KISS gone too far down that same road that spelled disaster in the late 70's? Has the retooled merchandising machine and outside projects come to, once again, signal the "KISS of death?" Kevin Potts thinks so. In his "Sound Off" essay Kevin notes that, "KISS has overextended themselves, and I think it's time we all recognized that the 'Hottest Band In The World' has finally, after years of hanging on by their fingernails and having that golden 'second chance' come along with Bruce and Eric Singer, reached its end." Gene's renewed interest in Holloywood, Ace & Peter's lack of participation, Paul's apparent lack of focus on KISS for the first time ever -- all signal "the end" to Kevin. Ever ambitious are KISS fans, and as such Patrick Maxwell has decided to address not just one, or even two topics in his "Sound Off" essay, but three. Fair weather fans (Boy, there were a lot of people at those 1996-97 reunion shows weren't there? Where the hell were you "fans" for the Revenge or Crazy Nights tours?), too much merchandising (Gene says, "We're turning down stuff left and right"!! What the hell are you turning down, man??), and the original line-up playing non make-up material (It's silly to not play songs from a 15 year span because 2 of the original members were not in the band when those songs were done.) are all hit upon by Patrick.

    KISS News From Russia
From: Vladimir Iliyn / KISS Asylum News Russia
Here is some of the latest KISS news from Russia: After success of the X-Files here, the new TV show Millennium will begin broadcasting in Russian on October 3rd on TV channel ORT. As you know, KISS played in one of Millennium shows and we are looking forward to it! The company who invited KISS to Russia promised to return the money back for unused KISS tickets to all the fans who had purchased them. Unfortunately, this month Russian TV channel NTV showed a special program about this problem which said that the promotion company is closed, put out of business because KISS cancelled the show in Russia. The fans still have unused tickets on their hands because nobody wants give the money back. Directors of Olympic Stadion, where the concert was scheduled to take place, also has some trouble with the promotion company. The music market in Russia finally officially released the "Second Coming" video, which is in Pal system format with a nice cover sleeve. The video has also been professionally translated into Russian! Second Coming t-shirts have also enjoyed good sales. The bootleg market is alive too. The "Detroit Rock City" soundtrack was "released" in October with the bonus track of Buckcherry Lit Up song. Also, one more Greatest Hits compilation CD and a couple of demo compilation CD's have come out. If you like toys, there are some KISS Action Figures from China selling on the Russian market. They are a set of small action figures of KISS, small copies of the first official action figures of KISS. There is also a Gene Simmons Tour Edition action figure.

New "Sound Off" Essay & "Set List Sound Off" Special
    From: KISS ASYLUM
In the cleverly entitled "KISS My Aspirin" our newest "Sound Off" author Andy explains why KISS is giving him a headache! And Andy's "talking about a bunch vodkas with beer chasers, stayed up all night, worshipped at the porcelin alter, just ran out of cigarettes and I'm late for work kind of headache!" From Paul Lynde's Halloween Special, to the belt buckles and pajamas, to the concerts and conventions, to the overpriced KISStory and new merchandising glut, Andy has seen and done it all and is no fly-by-night KISS fan. Yet, in this personal journey through KISStory as seen by Andy he explains why, after over 20 years of riding the highs and lows with the boys from New York he's finally had enough. In addition to Andy's "KISS My Aspirin also have a special "Sound Off" segment to debut. Our first two essays featured rather extensive versions of their "ultimate" KISS set list. Well, naturally that has inspired others to want to "Sound Off" with their own version of the "ultimate" KISS set list. In order to prevent "Sound Off " from turning into a giant, never-ending set list swap meet, we have created a "Set List Sound Off" sub-feature that will be hosted by KISS ASYLUM's own Video Spotlight author Byron Fogle. If you have an "ultimate" KISS set list you want to share, type it up and send it to Byron. Your set list can be a simple list of song titles, or include brief descriptions of the "theatrics" you would like to see accompany various songs (see Jon Hastings' "Sound Off" for a good example of this). The submissions will not be printed in full, but rather Byron will tally the song submissions received to create THE ultimate set list as suggested by KISS ASYLUM "Sound Off" submissions! Byron will also feature the more creative, unusual, and original suggestions for stage coreography/"theatrics" to accompany each song. So, if you've got an idea of the ultimate KISS set list, let Byron know what YOU think it is!

    "Sound Off!" Double Feature
    From: KISS ASYLUM
We have not one, but two new issues of "Sound Off" to debut today on KISS ASYLUM. In the first new essay, "Sound Off Crazy Nighters" author Joe Roggi has bluntly answered the questions of "Why Not?" posed by our previous "Sound Off!" authors with his opinion of exactly why not and what KISS should be about. He goes on to suggest that if KISS can't give the fans what they deserve they should "end it now before any more embarrasement!!" In our second new addition to "Sound Off" author Steve Ponchaud explains why "It Doesn't Matter What Our Opinion Is!" He also touches on why he hates almost everyone he sees at KISS concerts and conventions, and thinks deep down you do too! And, yes, Steve IS a KISS fan!

KISS Army "Sound Off" Huge Success!
    From: KISS ASYLUM
On Monday KISS ASYLUM debuted a new feature entitled "Sound Off" in which we presented a forum for guest writers to "Sound Off" on anything KISS related they felt strongly enough to sit down and write an essay about. The response was overwhelming, and we are happy to present the second of MANY "Sound Off" articles that will be coming your way over the coming weeks! Our seond issue of "Sound Off" finds Jon Law Hastings using Bill Francavilla's debut "Sound Off" as his starting point, beginning his own eassy by responding to several of the points raised by Bill. Jon's "Sound Off" really takes off, however, when he hits "Dream World." Jon has created his ultimate KISS concert experience, complete with pre-show video montage, opening band (UNION) and set list, and one hell of a KISS (past and present) live set, down to the exciting visual descriptions of events which he proposes accompany some of the songs in the set list (full orchestra, Gene in a ring of fire, Peter - and his drum kit! - getting up close and personal with the crowd)! Wanna visit dream world?

    From: KISS ASYLUM
Former Frehley's Comet singer/song writer/guitarist Tod Howarth has graciously taken time out of his incredibly busy schedule to do an interview with KISS ASYLUM for all the online fans. In addition to discussing Frehley's Comet (including his take on the "revolving drummer" situation and Anton's Letterman gig), Tod also talks about his experiences with 707 (possible new album), Ted Nugent, and Cheap Trick (including the recent 25 Year Cheap Trick Celebration in which he participated). Tod also discusses his solo career, including both his two completed albums Silhouette and Cobalt Parlor, as well as his forthcoming album, West of Eight. From talking about the internet and his website, to his opinion on Gordon Gebert's KISS 'N Tell books, to the story of him and Ace and "Superdog" this is certainly an interview you won't want to miss! And not only did Tod take time for an interview, he has offered some really great prizes for a KISS ASYLUM contest.

1999 New England KISS Expo Report
    From: Jeff Guerra
Mark St. John, 1999 The New England KISS convention was held in Swansea, Mass on the 26th and it turned out OK. Andre Augustine was there as well as "Angel," KISS Tribute "Dressed to Kill," and special guest Mark St. John. I'm sorry to say I did not stay for the KISS tribute or for Angel, and I wish I could've missed Augustine. My main purpose there was to meet Mark St. John, the man with the shortest tenure of any KISS guitarist. I wanted him to sign my KISSTORY book and that's all I was hoping for. Man, did he surprise me. When Mark was introduced, the crowd cheered and he almost seemed taken a back, like he thought he didn't deserve such applause. He was shy, almost muttering his answers. It was this laid back Californian, who surprised a lot of us by not seeming the least bit bitter about his whole KISS experience.

    KISS: Psycho Circus Interview
    From: Checkout.com via Robin Bennett
What do you get when you mix the warped mind of comic artist Todd McFarlane (Spawn) with the legacy of rock band KISS and throw in a creative team of computer programmers and designers with the goal of creating a first-person shooter? KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child, that's what, coming soon from Third Law Interactive and The Gathering of Developers. Based loosely on the comic of the same name, KISS Psycho Circus takes place in five extremely bizarre realms, each of which is populated with over 25 nightmarish freaks for your killing pleasure. With over 12 unique weapons and 16 special artifacts, players will roam this morbid world in the guise of a KISS band member, each of which has his own unique abilities, in a quest to stop the nefarious Nightmare Child. Psycho Circus is already shaping up to be one of the most original first-person shooters released and is already garnering quite a fan following, even though it's still in the early stages of development. Wanting to know more about what Third Law Interactive is up to, we went straight to the source and spoke with several members of the design team, including Mark Morgan (Artist), David Namaksy (Level Designer) and Mike Maynard (Programmer). -- Chris Jensen

Fan Feedback: "Adding Non-makeup Songs to the Set List?"
    From: KISS ASYLUM
In light of all the independant projects various KISS members have been working on this year, in our last poll we asked the online fans if doing "outside projects" was a good thing for KISS. According to the results it was almost an evenly split vote, with around half the people feeling that it was ok and the other half that it was not a good idea. The poll break down is as follows: No - 49.5% (1086 Votes); Yes - 41.3% (907 Votes); Not sure - 9% (199 Votes).

The number one complaint from fans about the "Psycho Circus" tour was the set list, and the fact that didn't show much variation from the previous reunion outings. In an effort to shake up the set list KISS is apparently considering bringing back some of the more popular songs from the non-makeup era if they tour again. KISS ASYLUM wants to know, Do you think that adding material from the non-makeup KISS era to the set list would work with the original lineup? Many of the 70's KISS "purists" feel that it is sacrilege for Ace and Peter to play songs from the 80's and 90's in which they had no part, whereas some fans think it would be a great change of pace to add some of their favorite non-makeup tunes back into the set list. KISS ASYLUM wants to know what YOU think! Click over to www.kissasylum.com/poll2/ to cast your vote and make your opinion heard. Also, don't forget to post up your comments about "KISS playing non-makeup era material with the original lineup" on KISS ASYLUM's KISS Army Online bulletin board at www.kissasylum.com/bbs/

    Sound Off KISS Army!
    From: KISS ASYLUM
Over the years KISS ASYLUM has had some great articles from our columnists in the Video Spotlight (Byron Fogle), KISS Thought Vault (Ron Albanese), Diamonds In The Rough (Dale Sherman), and KISS Album Focus (Julian Gill) features among others. In addition to the reoccuring articles from these great authors, we wanted to open the door to other writers out there and give them a place where they can voice their opinions about KISS. We realize not everyone may want to write a column on a regular basis, but we bet there are more than a few of you who have at least one KISS related topic burning in you that you'd love to write a one time piece about. Well, KISS ASYLUM is happy to bring to you a forum in which to do so in our new feature "SOUND OFF!" KISS ARMY. "SOUND OFF" is the place where YOU get a chance to be a guest columnist at KISS ASYLUM. In the debut issue of "SOUND OFF" Bill Francavilla asks a simple, yet complicated question of KISS: "Why not?" Why can't they add certain songs to the set list? Why can't they have a "KISS family" band like ESP or UNION open for them? Why can't they focus more on merchandise the fans really want.... if they must have the merchandise at all? Why can't Ace and Peter contribute (more) to the albums? These questions and more are asked by Bill, who also includes his own ideal "answers" to most of them.

KAOL: World Without Heroes Soundtrack Samples
    From: Kathy Labonte
CHAPTER 19 - ONLY YOU "Only you have the answers but the questions you have to find. Only you know the secret of the truth that speaks in your mind" Ace knows the secrets, Ace knows the truth. As hazy as it all seems to him, so many questions and answers that he doesn't quite have, he knows so much depends on him. Chapter 19 finds Bruce and Eric in the band, Ace missing, and Peter the only one with memories of the Talismans. This week's sound clip comes from a brand new performer to the KAOL family, Wade Sampson. A popular hard rock artist from Virginia with a loyal following in the DC area, Wade's music can often be heard on the local rock stations. Click to www.musicareonline.org to be taken to "ONLY YOU" in wav or MP3 format. A farmer of grape crops, both of Wade's careers consist of "giving back to the people" and he's a unique artist to have within the fund raising community of KAOL musicians. He attended Farm Aid this year, which was held nearby where Hurricane Floyd did considerable damage to many of the farmers' crops. Wade will also be heard in the upcoming KAOL 3 disc The Spirit of '78 with a song from Paul's solo album. This project is shaping up to be a very cool product. The story is good reading, the music is some of the best KAOL stuff ever, and the artwork inside of each chapter is also coming along great. We anticipate this book and soundtrack to raise a nice chunk of money for the hospital if all goes well. Details on the release date will be announced soon. Enjoy the latest soundclip!

KISS Tribute From KISSFEVER & KISSEROS!
    From: Gabriel Ravarini
Did you ever imagine "Mainline" with a horn section? Do you think that you can sing like Paul Stanley? Do you have a friend that plays the violin and you want to record a KISS song with him? Maybe your band sounds like KISS and you want to prove it..... or maybe your band is very different but you may want to perform a KISS cover and honor them? This is the moment of: A KISS TRIBUTE made by KISSFEVER and KISSEROS Mailing List. We are very proud to announce that a CD Tribute to KISS organized by KISSFEVER and KISSEROS is now a reality! Motivated by an idea generated by a member of our KISS fans' mailing list and with the support of KISS FEVER and with all of you, we can make this dream possible. We know that we don't lack the material or the talent, and we also know that with enthusiasm everything is possible. Since KISS blesses us with their music all the time, why not offer them a gift with their songs performed by us? Our main goal at KISS FEVER always was to show that no matter how different our languages are, KISS had changed our lives. We also always wanted to bring content and a space in Spanish for all the Spanish-speaking fans around the world to read and to express themselves. First was the magazine, then the website, then the mailing list (the one and only for Spanish-speaking fans), and now we're giving the opportunity to Spanish-speaking fans around the world to show your talent and to express the love of Spanish-speaking fans for the band from New York that has changed everyone's life. As Paul said, "It doesn't matter where you're born, it doesn't matter where you come from, it matters where your head is at!" To learn more about how to enter on this tribute, follow this link http://www.kissfever.com.ar/noticias/ and click on the "Tributo KISSEROS!" banner.
