  • Calling Dr. Love
I happened to catch a few minutes of the MTV show "Rodman World Tour" last night and Dennis' guests were Hootie and the Blowfish. Dennis and the group sat around a fountian and played songs. One of the songs they played (on acoustics) was "Calling Dr. Love!!!" It was really cool and they did a great job!

  • KISS on Swedish radio
    From: Magnus Skold
A two hour long Kiss special were broadcasted tonight om swedish radio P3, and it was awesome. The choice of songs were cool. Of course they played songs like Deuce, Shout it out loud and Detroit Rock City. But also they played these cool and unusual songs: Hard Times, Plaster Caster, Anything for my baby, It's Alright, Love Is A Deadly Weapon(!), No, No, No(!), Only You(!). They also played some short clips of other bands playing I was made for lovin' you, including a spanish band, a swedish band(female singer), and Garth Brooks. Also included was some interviews with the band, and some Kiss fans storys about their life with Kiss.

  • Help Wanted
From: Kai Roen of KISS Konfidential
I need your help! I want to start an serious Eric Singer/Bruce Kulick web and I need Kiss fans that could join this project. I want fans that are Singer/Kulick fans, and it would be great if I could get in touch with fans that do not partisipate reunion stuff!

The idea is that I need about 3-4 people intersted in this. (making web-pages, layout, providing information/pictures, audios/videos, mulitimedia stuff) The idea i got is that we could get an account at Simplenet (very cheap) and we want to give the fans the latest news from Kulick and Singer. I will get in touch with Mr. Singer and Kulick and I hope we could work with them. We will also focus on the unreleased album "Carnival Of Souls".

  • Gene Simmons Interview
    From: adowdall@netcom.ca
Today on 97.7 HITZ FM, here in Toronto, there was an interview with Gene Simmons. This is what he had to say.
    - As most people know they will be taking a break this summer and are going to record a new album with Peter and Ace. Then he said probably TWO!!
    - As for a boxed set, well it's not going to be in the near future. He said definitly not Christmas. (that sucks) He said not until they finish releasing these new albums.
    - As far as Carnival Of Souls goes, The song HATE and another undetermined one will be on the upcoming Spawn soundtrack. And as for the release date of that record goes-he has no idea, but he said it is definitly going to come out.
    - He also talked about some other stuff and his opinion on certain things - such as releasing Greatest Hits type packages and so forth, saying that its not meant for the die hard fans or whatever.
    - He also kept joking around with the host, asking her if she was wearing butt-floss underwear or not. It was pretty funny.

  • Update from Gene via Gerri Miller
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
Gene called today and pronounced the KISS Rocks the World special "magnificent." He doesn't bestow compliments lightly so I am pleased. He said that South America/Mexico was great, even though they were trapped in the hotel (fans camped out outside). Everyone but the band got Montezuma's Revenge in Mexico because they drank the water. They're still discussing a July 4th show, nothing's set. There will be more touring as soon as the next record is done--no break. (Click the magazine image on the right for a larger version.)

New album writing starts in July. The Spawn soundtrack will have TWO KISS songs--"Hate" and another they're (New Line, not the band) deciding on (both from the unreleased album with Bruce and Eric). He mentioned some of the merch in the works, some I heard about for the first time--KISS golf clubs, coffee. There are also coins and for next Halloween, new masks and makeup.

KA Note: Well, it looks as if two songs from the COS album will see the light of day via this soundtrack. Cool!

  • Monsters of Rock
    From: Fabio Serrano
Well, I read at Rock Brigade magazine that Kiss will headline in August the Phillips Monsters of Rock. Others artists are: Angra, Dio and Whitesnake. I hope this turns out to be confirmed 'cause the foursome just "skipped" the brazilian dates for the Reunion tour.

    From: Chris Mende
Mtv News featured Kiss in their segment this afternoon. They showed a clip from Kiss' Alive Worldwide tour, as well as, indicating that Kiss will be back in the States for this leg of the tour. They then went to a group style interview which Gene mainly spoke about some of the overseas dates. I'm hoping that this segment will be on The Week In Rock, so people who missed it can see it.

  • KISS sighting's in Spawn issues 57 and 58
    From: Brian Holcomb
Just thought I would let you know that there is about a half of page of pictures of the band backstage from one of the shows in Japan in issue 57 and in issue 58 one of the main characters of the story ( a fouteen year-old ) is wearing a jacket that says KISS on the back throughout the whole book.(By the way, they are really good comics too.) Pretty cool- check them out !

  • KISS Asylum in new Tour Mag!
    From: Kathie Avital
Hey guys, Did you know the Kiss Asylum is mentioned in the new magazine being sold at the shows, "Kiss Rocks The World"? There is a 3-page section called "CYBERKISS", and there is a listing for the Asylum. It gives the name & URL, then this:

"Probably the best KISS site on the Internet. The Asylum is content heavy and simple in design. You are not inundated with KISS graphics that take forever to load. Navigation is a breeze. Definitely bookmark this one!"

(KA Note: Cool! What a great compliment; to have that said about The KISS Asylum in the Metal Edge KISS Tour magazine is a great honor. Thanks to all who contribute to make this site bitchin'!

  • Happy Halloween
From: KNN News Feed via KISS otaku
I was fortunate enough to attend the 13th National Halloween Costume & Party Show at the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago over the weekend. I was informed that the KISS Masks, Makup Kit and 3D Wallhangings were going to be shown.

The products are scheduled for a possible June release, but that was most likely too early. There will be one Makeup Kit that will work for all members. As for the 3D Wall Hangings, the photo is unapproved, and there will be some changes. Each plaque will include an autograph and will not include the "KISS" portion shown. These are extremely cool and would like perfectly fine on the wall above a couch. There are definite collectors items, with a limited quantity being made. The masks.... WOW! Again these are the prototypes being shown, but these should be a big hit! Look for each mask to retail in the $35 range.

  • KISS Rocks the World! -- A Review!!
    From: Mark Stroming
Mark got the new magazine yesterday at the concert and I asked him to write a review of it for The KISS Asylum. Here is what he wrote!

The new KISS special magazine "KISS Rocks The World" was made available on March 21 for the first time to the fans at the opening show of the US Lost Cities tour in New Haven, Connecticut. In my opinion, it's even better than the Alive/Worldwide tour magazine. And that's really saying something. It retails for $12.00. It's 234 pages and has squared-edge binding like KISSnation does, as opposed to binding with staples that magazines usually use. It appeared to be sold out by intermission, so if you plan on getting a copy on tour, get it early.

There's too much to cover everything, but here are some of the articles and highlights from each:

    KISS Conquers The World

A nice in-depth interview with all four
They talk about doing the best KISS record of all-time
Gene says they could tour for 3-4 years, but they will be looking at new material this summer
Gene says Greatest KISS coming out in the US was a "record company thing"
Gene said they'll do the convention tour with Ace & Peter at some point
Gene says they played the unreleased album for New Line Cinema regarding the Spawn soundtrack and they were interested in a few things, "Hate" being one of them

    KISS Remasters

It says 17 remasters will be coming out this summer, KISS through Creatures Of The Night
In addition to the better sound, there will also be restored artwork, photos, and inserts.
There will be essays that chronicle their careers included as well
It says we'll get the booklets from Alive I and II, the posters from Dynasty and Unmasked, and even the sticker from Rock And Roll Over. It says they will be shrunken down (obviously!) for both the CDs and cassettes

    KISS Mailbag

Gene answers a fan's letter about KISSnation. Gene says only 12,000 copies were made. He comments that it's missing content and came out in a "mangled form" from Marvel
Paul apparently has a new special effect in store. He says he'll hopefully be "swinging out to the soundboard and singing Love Gun" on this leg of the American tour
The KAOL tribute CD is mentioned here as well

    KISSnation

The KISSnation comic book is reproduced here along with additional articles and photos. The KISS '95 Japan tour article is taken out, but all the other articles seem to be there

    Toys R Us

Article about the new KISS action figures
It mentions how "Hate" may be the song for the Spawn soundtrack as there may not be enough time to record a new song with Ace & Peter for the late summer release
The figures will be $7.99 each

    Advertisements

There is a ton of advertisements throughout the mag for all the new KISS merchandise
    Ad for Ace's 12 Picks
Ad for Greatest KISS (says in stores April 8 on the ad)
Ad for Ace's new signature Gibson guitar (says it will be available worldwide summer of 1997)
Ad for the new trading cards that are coming this summer (no pics of the actual cards though)
Back cover ad is for McFarlane Toys' KISS action figures along with pics we've seen already

    Japan-demonium

Article about the '97 KISS Japan tour
Gene talks about how he lost his voice at the second Osaka show
Great pics from the concerts and the press conference

"The glamor boys" from Lighting Dimensions

This is an article reprinted from the October 1996 issue of Lighting Dimensions magazine
I noticed it had two more pictures than the original article does

    KISS Covered

A nice collage of KISS' recent magazine cover and newspaper appearances

    KISS Encounters

Some pics of KISS with some of the famous people they've met up with on the tour (Jay Leno, Soundgarden, Trent Reznor, etc.)

Other stuff: The cover features KISS superimposed over a picture of the world with flames; the front cover folds open to show a closeup shot of KISS; there's all kinds of great new studio and live shots throughout the mag we haven't seen yet; there's a double-sided, fold-out poster in the center; there is a comprehensive listing of the KISS fan clubs, fanzines, and web sites; all the web pages are reviewed as well; there's new KISS fan artwork; photos of KISS fans, their tatoos, etc.; a KISS invades Australia article; Doc McGhee and technician interviews and tons more.

I have a lot of KISS special magazines and this is by far the best one in my collection. Hats off to Gerri Miller and Metal Edge magazine for a great job!

  • KISS Rocks the World
The new Metal Edge KISS Special magazine, "KISS Rocks the World", is NOW on sale at the KISS concert venues. There has been a lot of good reviews about it already. People have said it is better than the first Metal Edge KISS special. Anyway, it hits the streets on April 8th. We hope to have a review of this magazine very shortly!

  • KISS Reviews!
Hours after the show, the reviews are coming in! And they are up on the KISS Views page under the Reunion section. Check them out. Now that KISS is back in the States, expect more reviews to be coming in daily. I will try my best to put them up as soon as I can. Thanks -- Chris

  • Funny Story
    From: Mike Sutton
I don't know if you have heard this before, but I was looking at a web site made by Ric Drasin. He is a weightlifter who has been a bodygaurd for Gene Simmons. Anyway, he was talking about stars he sees at Gold's Gym in North Hollywood. When he mentions Gene he says, he works out when he is in town, but at the gym he basically kills time. He has terrible work ethic. I thought it was funny because that is not the Gene you see on stage.

  • KISS Sighting in Cosmo
    From: Robert Waring
In the April Cosmopolitan magazine on page 46, there is a group photo of KISS with news about the upcoming book, Kiss and Sell: The Making of a Supergroup. It's from Billboard Books, and retails for $24.95. It's an insiders view of the "super group" that looks like superheros.

  • KISS Sighting!

Road Report! While driving today on the second half of my road trip...... I pulled into a road side service area and I am on the phone to KingCool when none other than ACE himself walks by me to purchase a sprite from the vending machine.... I said hi to him and told him I was road trippin from Detroit and He said cool it will be a good show! I told Glenn I didn't know how far away I was and Ace replied about 45 mins. I hung up the phone and Ace signed an autograph for me. He had on a black leather that said lady luck on the back.. real cool.....

  • Greatest KISS release date
    From: Bob Rodrick
According to ICE CD newsletter, "Greatest Kiss" has been bumped up a few weeks to April 8, which incidentally, is the same release date as Ace's "12 Picks" album. I tend to believe this piece of info more than Billboard. Billboard's website actually uses ICE newsletter for their release date information.

  • U.S. KISS remasters News
    From: Chris Chevela
I picked up the April copy of Ice magazine and they had an interesting tidbit about the U.S. KISS Remasters:

"Polygram's upgrading of the entire KISS catalog is now scheduled for summer release. Collectors have noticed that remastered Japanese imports have already started appearing, so we asked Polygram catalog chief Bill Levenson about them. 'They're the new masters,' Levenson tells ICE, 'but the packaging will be different in America. They'll be more developed, with an essay and more original materials, more accurate to the original releases. We sent Japan the tapes, but we never supplied them with new film for graphics and artwork.' "

  • KISS - Minor TV Appearance
    From: wire64@airmail.net
Watching USSB today I came accross a funky documentary movie about peoples obsessions with celebrities, and a KISS collector was featured in 3-4 little segments. • KISS Pinball Machine -- Bring it back!
    From: Scott Riley
I would like for you to post on your web sites information on how people can contact Williams/Bally-Midway and request that they release a new version of the Kiss pinball machine. They can be contacted at:
      Williams/Bally-Midway
      3401 N. California Ave.
      Chicago, IL 60618
      USA

      or via email at: sales@wms.com

This original Kiss machine is approaching its 20th anniversary and we need to encourage Bally to release an anniversary edition. When people write Bally they should emphasize how Kiss was the top grossing tour of 1996, that they have been licensing themselves for all kinds of new projects such as the Kiss dolls and trading cards and they should emphasize the collectability of Kiss merchandise and mention how dedicated Kiss fans would purchase such a machine when they are released realizing that new machines go for $3000-$4000. They may also want to mention how most people who are into pinball are old enough to remember the first Kiss machines. You can also mention how good of an investment they would be for arcade owners because there will be an enormous demand for discounted machines a couple of years after they are released.

  • Interview with Gene Simmons
    From: pnadoroz@cgo.wave.ca
I was listening to 97.7 F.M here in Toronto and today they conducted an interview with Gene Simmons. The interview will be aired next Thursday, March 27th on that station. She said Gene had alot to say and he talks about the fate of the KISS box set and Carnival of Souls. The D.J didn't give alot away, but she said it'll make any KISS fans jaw drop, so listen to 97.7 F.M at 6 o'clock next Thursday to hear the interview with Gene Simmons.

  • More in the Interview with Gene Simmons
    From: Paul Guillemette
As I was driving home today I heard on 97.7 HTZ FM that they will be airing a special interview with Gene Simmons on Thurs Mar 27/97 at 6:00 pm. This will be of special interest to anybody who lives in Southern Ontario and the Buffalo area.
According to the show last night the interview will cover the following and it last 25 minutes.

      1- Cashing in $$$
2- Recording new songs with Peter/Ace.
      3- The current tour
      4- The boxed set
5- Carnival of Souls (this is what caught my ear. Gene will unleash some news which will make a lot of KISS fans happy this summer, apparently most of this material will be released this summer, in what form I'm not sure but I will wait until the interview for confirmation, possible tie-in with the re-releases?)

Apparently Gene was in a very talkative mood and in very good spirits about the current state of the band.
    More to follow next week.

  • Collectible KISS Coins
From: KNN News Feed via Patrick Kendall
There is an awesome new KISS collectible due out any day now. It is a set of (4) 1 troy ounce silver KISS coins! They are without a doubt the nicest KISS coins produced to date. The reason I know about them is because I am the artist that did the initial renderings for the sculptors to work from. These coins are going to be an officially licensed item. Sony actually contacted the mint that is doing the coins and sent them a few photos to work from. I was commissioned to do the artwork because I have freelanced as an artist for the mint for about 7 years now, and the art director there knew I am a major KISS fan. The coins will come in a nicely designed box, most likely all black with the silver saw blade 1996-97 worldwide tour logo, and there is going to be one coin for each member. I saw photos of the Ace, Gene, and Peter coins last week and they are amazing! The front of the coin is a portrait of the band member with the KISS logo running up one side, and the members name surrounds the top. The back of each coin is the KISS logo with the saw blade. The Paul coin is the one holding up the show, due to the fact that Mr.Stanley made me revise the first bit of artwork I did. So as soon as Pauls coin is minted, The set should be available soon. As far as I know, they will only be sold in sets, and the cost will be @$100.oo or more. They will be well worth it!

KISS otaku has already secured original sketches of the coins!
Ace - taken from the Alive/Worldwide tourbook
Gene - taken from the Metal Edge, Alive/Worldwide Tour Special
Peter - taken from the Metal Edge, Alive/Worldwide Tour Special
Rejected Paul - taken from the Metal Edge, Alive/Worldwide Tour Special

Some further details that I acquired on the coins:
There will be a Limited Edition Silver set of all four coins, including a booklet. Limited to 3500. There will also be Limited Edition Gold set. The coins will be silver with the makeup in gold. Limited to 1000

  • KISS Kollector Fanzine reviewed by The KISS Asylum
I have a new section on my web page where I review Fanzines that are sent to me. It is a new item located in my Views section of my web page. If you have a fanzine you want me to review....send it to me!

Joop van Pelt, the fanzine's editor, sent me a copy of KISS Kollector recently and I took a look at it. Let me first say that after taking a quick look at this fanzine...I can easily say it is one of the best fanzines out there. There is NO question about that. Looking further indepth into it...there was no doubt about it! The fanzine is loaded with news, interviews, features and pictures of KISS. I got issue #20 and which includes the following:

Joop certainly is a busy man! He write most of the articles in this issue and they are very fresh and interesting. You get 4 issues a year plus official merchandise on sale and more for only $22 U.S. dollars. The issues are just PACKED with info. The type font is small, but readable, to allow for the most possible information allowed in this fanzine. I really can't stress how awesome the photos are in this issue! This fanzine has the most KISS photos I have seen in one issue. They are all very crisp and in good quality. All the photos are in B&W but they still look terrific. You want to know more about this fanzine? Well, you are in luck! KISS Kollector has its "official" web site located right here at kissasylum.com. Check out KISS Kollector Online for the best that KISS Kollector has to offer. Their web site is just starting out, so bare with them. There is more to come. There is an "Info Page" on the KISS Kollector Online site that gives you more info on this fanzine.
In closing, I have seen a number of fazines out there and I have to say that KISS Kollector is by far one of the best fanzines going today. It is professional and you really get your money's worth; which to me is a sign of a good fanzine!

    From: Axis Records via AceFrehley.com
There is a song on the Wise Guy From New York CD for everyone. Bobby Chouinard however, died last sat. night. He played drums on wouned heart. So its been a very sad week.
Richie and I have been recording this week with Michael Bruce. (the guitarest and song writer for Alice Cooper) He wrote all the early hits, Schools out,Eighteen,Billion etc..
PS: Richie and Ace hungout last week together and listened to the Wise Guy CD. Ace loved it!! He listened to it at full volume and did not move off the couch intill it was over. Ace really misses playing with Richie, but the money is real good now so he will continue playing with Kiss for a while.

  • KISS Collector Cards
    From: cornercard@aol.com

    MARCH 13, 1997
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    "Cornerstone gets KISSx-ed!"
THE trading card event of the year!

Tucson-based publisher Cornerstone Communications, Inc., announced today that it has acquired, through Sony Signatures, Inc., the exclusive rights to produce collectible trading cards based on the world's hottest rock group - KISS! 1996 was a banner year for the band, with their worldwide reunion tour being a total sell-out and appearances on the covers of such major publications as Forbes and Entertainment Weekly. The blitz continues as the group hits the road again in '97.
Cornerstone's Managing Director, Walter Rowan, said, "In an era of waning interest in non-sports trading card titles, the prospect of KISS cards is sending a much-needed jolt of excitement through the hobby. KISS was the most important unsigned license out there, and we are thrilled to add it to our roster. Don't be surprised if our KISS cards outsell Star Wars or X-Files cards."
During the life of the two-year license, Cornerstone will issue several collectible card sets, each featuring awesome color photos, revealing biographies and detailed discographies. A special nine-card KISS Preview Set will be issued through the direct market (comic book and card shops) in June, 1997. The first full-scale, mass-market set is scheduled for a July release. The cards will be available worldwide through specialty shops, music stores and select retail chains, as well as KISS concerts.
Since 1992, CCI has produced high quality, special interest trading cards based on such diverse entertainment properties as The Monkees, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Doctor Who, The Avengers, The Prisoner, Hammer Horror films and the Japanese animated feature films Akira and Robot Carnival. KISS will take its place as Cornerstone's flagship license.

  • KISS in new Metal Edge magazine
KISS again is in the new Metal Edge magazine. Of course from the above they were the big winners in the Readers Choice Awards....but here are some more items of KISS in the magazine.
**There is a KISS color pinup of the group
**In the section in which KISS and other rock stars were asked what superhero or comicbook character would you like to be....here are their answers:
Gene: "The Thing, because Ben Grimm has an idyllic point of view about life: he hates everybody."
Paul: I like the superhero I am. I don't have to worry about kryptonite or anything like that
Ace: I already am, a Space Man. I wouldn't want to be a villian. I leave that up to Gene. I'm better at comedy."
Peter: Bugs Bunny 'cause he gets away with it all. this rabbit's got it down! And I like his big feet"
Bruce Kulick: "I think Bugs Bunny is the essence of cool, and I eat carrots!"
Eric Singer: "Woody Woodpecker. He reminds me of myself"
Kudos: Kudos to Scott Ian of Anthrax for saying that the fantasy character he would like to be is Gene Simmons! lol
**Also in this new Metal Edge there is a short review of Ace's new Compilation album, "12 Picks." It has a Black and White pict of the album cover there as well. The review is not all that great as the reviewer said that the live tracks sound a bit sloppy and that KISS' version of the songs are much better, go see the band live. This album comes out on April 8th.

    Overview
This compilation offers some of the best work from legendary KISS guitarist Ace Frehley during the period after his highly publicized departure from one of the greatest rock & roll bands of all time. ..until his triumphant return to the stage in one of the most anticipated reunions ever in 1996.

Included are tracks from all three Megaforce albums, one live EP and six live tracks never before available on disc!!! Together with Ace in this collection are some of the best players in rock & roll. Longtime friend and founding member of "The Comet," Anton Fig on drums, John Regan on bass, Tod Howarth & Richie Scarlett on guitar and vocals, and Jamie Oldaker (Eric Clapton) on drums live in London. Other friends that stopped by to lend a hand on these tracks include KISS partner Peter Criss, Skid Row bandmates Sebastian Bach, Dave Sabo and Rachel Bolan, and last by not least, Sandy Salvin.

Ace Frehley. . .what can I say! The best way to describe "The Ace" is that in a world full of copies, he remains an original. putting this compilation together brought back a lot of memories -- some great and some rather bizarre, but always unique. Like the time we were touring with Alice Cooper and Ace was having trouble with his famous (Smoking guitar. On stage that night Ace couldnąt seem to get the elaborate device that triggered the smoke effect to detonate during his set highlighting guitar solo. Late, during the set change in our dressing room, a very frustrated Ace had "The Smoker" on his lap trying to analyze the problem All of a sudden we heard this loud sound and smoke began billowing out of the guitar filling the entire dressing room with a thick white cloud. Ace, always a quick thinker, stood up and ran out of the dressing room, right into the arena, smoke enveloping him every step of the way! The crowd went crazy. . .once again Ace came through for the fans. . .they got to see the smoking guitar after all!!!

Going back to our first meeting, I was working at a studio that was owned by a good friend of mine and, as it turned out a good friend of "The Ace." Right from the start I could sense his "bigger than life. . .rock star persona," but there seemed to be something else about him that almost contradicted the rough and tough rocker image. Through the years I learned what that "something else" was. As it turned out, Ace had just left KISS and I had just finished one of my many tours with Peter Frampton. So Ace, myself and drummer extraordinaire, Anton Fig began a series of marathon jams at Ace's studio in Connecticut. Frehley's Comet was born. Later with the addition of Richie Scarlett and Arthur Stead, we became a band. With a little help from our friends, we put down some treat demos. We recorded more tracks in '86 and '87 that I can remember. But it wasn't until Megaforce Records, Jon and Marsha Zazula, and Ed Trunk along with "producer deluxe" Eddie Kramer heard something special that "The Comet" finally took off. Those first recording sessions were a blast! Tod Howarth joined in as we recorded our first LP, Frehley's Comet. Over the next four years, we recorded our Live + 1 EP, Second Sighting, Trouble Walkiną and my favorite. . .a full length concert video from London's Hammersmith Odeon. During those years, and because of Anton's commitment to David Letterman, the drum chair was occupied by some of the greatest drummers in the world. Jamie Oldaker, fresh from Eric Clapton's band came on board for Second Sighting and toured with us right through Live + 1. Sandy Salvin was brought in for the Trouble Walkiną LP and tour and let's not forget Billy Ward. Also on Trouble Walkiną Richie Scarlett rejoined the band. Richie's contributions were enormous and were only eclipsed by his raw power, talent and sincerity. . .we also were joined in the studio on those sessions by none other than "The Cat" Peter Criss, Sebastian Bach, Dave "The Snake" Sabo and Rachel Bolan of Skid Row. It was a great feeling seeing old bandmates, Ace and peter back together and I truly feel that those sessions were the spark that culminated in the KISS Reunion some five years later. I'm very proud of the music we made as a band and all the friends we made along the way. The loyalty and love of Ace's fans, from the KISS fans and everyone who bought "The Comet's" albums never ceases to amaze me. You made it all memorable and all worthwhile. I Hope you enjoy this compilation of some of our best studio tracks and some live cuts that have never been available on disc. So crank it up. . .and as Ace signs his autograph, "Rock On."

P.S. Comet's have a way of returning. . hey, you never know. . . All the best. . . John Regan

    Release date: April 8, 1997
The first 30,000 copies of 12 Picks includes an autographed Ace Frehley guitar pick.

Very weird angle.

The reason for this is that on March 31st there will be a Kiss-special on that station. They didn't say for how long it was gonna run, but my guess is, at least an hour! And they also didn't say what time it was on, check local listings folks! This is way cool, the last time there was a Kiss-special on P3-Sweden was back in '82!! • KISS Trading
    From: Julian
I don't know if you consider this news, but considering the theme of today's news item ;)
KISS fans shouldn't rip one another off! I run KISS Audio Trading, UK and have just started a Worldwide Trader Network. The purpose of this is to provide a list of honourable international traders. The list is located at my site, and because it has just started, is quite small. However, as the people who I've traded with add the details of the people they've traded with, etc., the list should grow. It doesn't guarantee that KISS fans won't get ripped off, indeed nothing could, but seeing the banner will provide some assurance and details that can be checked before sending out material and/or money. People who use the banner and don't appear on the member's page, well... They're alot of good people all over the World who want to trade!

  • KISS music Laser show in Detroit
    From: SpaceMann
This past friday evening I saw a Kiss Laser Show at the Longway Planetarium in Flint.
Anyway, the show was fantastic! The tunes were mostly from Alive! and Alive II. The show was about an hour and a half long and was a total visual overload. Hey! Kind of like a real Kiss show!
They're planning on showing the Kiss laser show until the end of April and who knows what'll happen after that. Shows are at 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Laser show had smoke, lights, and animiated versions of Kiss including a Gene that breathes fire and an animated Ace that is unreal.
It is truly a mind blowing experience. Contact me via Email and I can give you all the info that I've got or just call Longway Planetarium. It's worth the drive! You can check out the Laser Fantasy WWW site (www.laserfantasy.com) to get info on if the show is going on near you, but according to Longway, only one other planetarium in the country is showing the Kiss show.

  • The CIA HONORS THE BEST OF 1996
    From: Jay Brooke via Pollstar.com
The eighth annual Concert Industry Awards ceremony January 31st was well attended and well received. Nearly 1,000 industry movers and shakers came together at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles to honor the best in the business. The 29 categories pay homage to everyone from the artists to the facilities. Here's the lowdown on all the awards winners.

Major Tour of the Year / Most Creative Stage Production: KISS

Members of KISS reunited in their full make-up regalia and set the 1996 concert season afire. The reunion tour of '96 marked the first time in 15 years that all four original members toured together and it's the first time since 1983 that the make-up was back on.

KISS took its over-the-top outing to 75 cities for 92 shows filled with the kind of massive sound, huge pyrotechnics, guitar smashing, insane fire-breathing and blood-spitting that made the band a rock'n'roll legend in the first place.
In 1972, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley took the music scene by storm with their trademark stage personas. The costumes and platform boots alone were worth the price of admission. The glitter and grandiosity of a KISS concert caused many young fans to enlist in what was dubbed the KISS Army, a hard-core fan base with "officers" who worshipped everything related to KISS.
Though critics panned the foursome, KISS's popularity endured with the public, which has bought more than 75 million records to date. Sales of KISS merchandise and memorabilia never waned, nor did the band's influence on a generation of musicians. By the mid-'90s, however, it seemed the only joy left for the KISS Army was the acquisition of collectibles and the appreciation of KISS-influenced bands. But then came the big announcement: KISS would return to the stage for a massive arena tour.
Rock'n'roll spectacle is all about. The cries of "I want to rock and roll all nite ... and party every day," filled arenas across the country as fans -- and promoters -- donned costumes, make-up and platform boots in homage to the "hottest band in the world!"
The tour sold an average of nearly 16,000 tickets per city in 1996 and generated an average gross of $578,606. The numbers alone marked the outing as the top grossing tour of 1996 but it was the tour's overall impact on the industry that inspired the nod for Major Tour of the Year.
And it's no surprise that the spectacular stage show earned kudos for Most Creative Stage Production. During the KISS Alive worldwide tour, which continues into '97, the band expects to use more than $7 million of sound, lighting, video, pyrotechnics and staging. The huge production is transported in a convoy of 11 semis and six tour busses. The band will use 54 pounds of theatrical make-up over the duration of the tour and Simmons will regurgitate 358 pints of fake blood.
There are moving platforms, airlifted band members, helicopters and fire-spitting guitars in the production. And the official word is Paul Stanley will smash 350 guitars to bits.
The backstage ringleader of the tour is Tim Rozner, who wears many hats for this outing. Not only is Rozner the tour and production manager, he also had a hand in the lighting and set design for the multi-continent production. Rozner said the "fan friendly" production was designed like a three-ring circus. "[The band] wanted it to be the greatest show on earth."
The pyrotechnical effects were handled by Pyrotek Special Effects, with Randy Bast and Chris Ladziak. The "techno-hell" set was built by Stage Craft on a Tait rolling stage. Light & Sound Design provided the lighting with a system using Icons but supplemented by Vari*Lite moving mirrors and other special effects. Bryan Hartley is the tour's lighting director and Showco, with houseman Toby Francis, does the sound. Four other keys on the frontline of the KISS Alive tour are artist manager Doc McGhee, co-production and stage manager Thomas "Rocko" Reedy, tour accountant Paco Zimmer and Creative Artists Agency.
KISS knew what it took to entertain its fans in the '70s and '80s and it is obvious that today, the spectacle of a KISS concert still has what it takes to please loyal fans and convert new followers.

  • More KISS Dolls News
    From: Kenny Gaines
I just got off the phone with a friend of mine that is the manager of a store called On-Cue,a subsidiary of Musicland Inc..He told me that Musicland was the first company to sign up and seal the deal with McFarland Toys.So Musicland will be selling the new action figures. He also told me that there is talk about a few limited edition sets. One set made of bronze, one set being 13" tall, one set autographed, and a boxed set of the figures. The "Limited Edition sets" are still a rumor I guess. That was just what was told to me,so take that for what it's worth.

  • Gene in Red Surf
    From: Dale Sherman
Here's a note you may want to pass along to the readers.
E! (Entertainment Television), the cable channel, is showing Gene's movie RED SURF twice this month. The first time on March 1 at 7:00 p.m. EST; the second time on March 4 at 1:00 p.m. EST. It's really not that good of a film, and Gene's role is actually quite minor (although he does play a good guy for once). A new "sell-through" video cassette of the movie has also come out for $8.99.
The revival of this movie? Blame it on George Clooney. This is one of the first film appearances he made when the film was released in 1989.
