Report: Paul Stanley On Chris Isaak Show
From: aweaver55@comcast.net
I just caught Paul Stanley on the Chris Isaak show on Showtime. It was a little "campy" but Paul held his own and generally seemed to be having a good time. the basic story went like this: Paul sat in with Chris as a guest at a club gig which led into some casual conversation in the dressing room afterward. The plot thickened while they guys were reminiscing about some recent events and it became obvious that Chris had never thrown a party for his friends. Paul mildly scolds Chris about it, which leads to Chris feeling obligated to reciprocate. This dredges up horrible memories of a failed 10th birthday party with a drunken clown and few guests. The rest of the show was mostly about Chris' efforts to plan a successful bash without spending too much cash. You get the feeling that you may not see Paul again and that it was really just a "walk-on" when Chris receives an invitation to a party Paul is throwing and realizes it is supposed to be on the same night as his! Chris rushes to see Paul and ask him to change his party to another date but Paul's plans are set in stone as it is the only night he can book the hula dancers. Chris panics realizing that he can't compete with Paul and one thing leads to another...... the show ends with Paul and Chris playing Rock and Roll All Nite wearing Hawaiian shirts and leys in Chris' living room filled with guests! If you missed it, you missed out but I'm sure it will run again. Paul seemed to be having a blast to be in front of a crowd again. Hope it's a sign of things to come. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Join Rob Zombie's Ramones Tribute LP
From: VH-1.com via Reprobatin@aol.com
Just when it appeared the Ramones tribute album We're a Happy Family was nearing completion, a few more artists have signed on for the project. Garbage and KISS approached Happy Family co-producer Rob Zombie after Dee Dee Ramone, the group's founding bassist, died earlier this month (see " 'Dee Dee Ramone Was Punk Rock' To Friends, Fans"). Before that, Metallica were the only holdouts, remaining undecided on which of four tracks they would hand over (see "Rob Zombie's Ramones Tribute LP Just Waiting For Metallica"). Joining previously reported contributors Eddie Vedder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson and U2, Garbage will lend a version of the boredom anthem "I Just Want to Have Something to Do," and KISS will record an as-yet-undetermined track next week. Zombie said he thinks his theatrical-rock inspirations will cover either "Rock & Roll High School" or "Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio?" With either of those, Zombie said he'd have hit all the classics. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons Plans To Be Rock's Martha Stewart
From: Adage.com
NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- None of this is a joke. So Gene Simmons, the notoriously orally endowed bassist of Kiss, now has a magazine called Gene Simmons Tongue. If the savvy 52-year-old Mr. Simmons has his way, Tongue is the key opening gambit in his ambitions to make his own name a readily identifiable lifestyle brand, roughly akin to a Martha Stewart for the mullet-cut set. At the magazine's New York launch party June 5, the party favors were Kiss Kondoms, packages of which depict Mr. Simmons in makeup, and the disquieting legend "tongue lubricated." Burly guys, resembling 30-ish heartland-rock fans -- tattoos, cut-off faded T-shirts -- transplanted to a Manhattan nightclub bump up against surgically enhanced "blondes" and cadge free drinks by the half-dozen. ("I'm sorry-my whole band's over there," one explains, somewhat believably.) Then come the midgets. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Reminder: KAOL - Going Out Of Business
From: Kathy LaBonte
We still have $1 "World Without Heroes" CDs available at kissarmyonline.com. These 70 minute KISS Tribute discs used to be included in the back sleeve of the Dale Sherman novel of the same title. The Soundtrack holds 25 KISS song remakes that followed the storyline musically. The books are sold out but you can still get one of the Soundtracks. We are also still clearing out the rest of our KISS Army Tribute series of CDs (KAOL). Prices have been slashed 60% on "CREATURES OF THE NET" and 50% on "THE SPIRIT OF '78" which is a double CD set that includes a video CD as well. We have just a handful of KISS Army CLOTHING left in stock - shirts sold like mad last week. Come and pick from what is left - 60% off as well. Profits have always been given to charity and we are striving to make one last donation to the Alzheimer's Association this year before closing the doors on KAOL. These CDs are professionally recorded, mastered, are packaged with tons of free extra collectibles (oversized posters, bumperstickers, and more) and they absolutely rock! Include them in your collection before it is too late. Full song listings at the site! www.kissarmyonline.com [Post Your Comments]

Message From KISS ASYLUM
From: KISS ASYLUM
As we're sure all of KISS ASYLUM's visitors noticed, the past few months were a bit shaky with the website. We were as annoyed as all of you were to get up in the morning and, without notice, find the page down on several occasions because of server/host difficulties. However, contrary to some rumors that were started during these difficulties nothing sinister has been going on. Simple server/host difficulties were to blame, nothing more nothing less. And we are hopeful that the server/host issue has been resolved, as KISS ASYLUM has recently completed a complete server/host switch-over to a new location and company. This process took a little time due both to the size of the page (you collect a LOT of information in almost 7 years!) and the simultaneous switch of KULICK.net as well. The bulletin boards are not back up yet, but as soon as we get the time to implement the coding/CGI necessary we'll get those up and running again as well. We just wanted to thank everyone for hanging in there with us during these past few bumpy months and to assure everyone that KISS ASYLUM is alive and well! [Post Your Comments]

Evansville KISS Expo Review
From: KISSFreaks.com
June 8, 2002 brought the first ever KISS Expo to Evansville by way of Allen Tate. The Holiday Inn at the airport in Evansville was the scene. Kind of cool how the place was setup. There was a open sunroom type conference area. The only drawback was the hotel swimming pool on the other side of a four foot divider wall. So if you stood up and looked over the wall you got to see all of the people with more wrinkles than the band in nothing but their spandex fitting swimsuits. I'm still having nightmares. Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
Hello everyone, Had the pleasure last night to be in attendance for Gene's launch party for his new magazine, Gene Simmons Tongue, at Barfly in West Hollywood, Ca. It was definitely a reunion of sorts, with Gene, Paul, Eric, and myself. The party was very crowded, and here are some highlights. I don't think I will ever forget seeing Hugh Hefner, looking fine, dancing with 6 or 7 Playmates, in a velvet roped off section of the dance floor with bodyguards and security! I think the girls were the ones on the cover of Gene's Tongue Magazine. Not a sight to forget! Got to see my old friend from Motley Crue, Mr. Nikki Sixx, and his beautiful wife Donna D'Errico who had lots of cameras following them all night. Nikki did agree to be in my book as we got to hangout a lot in the early 90's during his very domestic days with his first wife, Brandi. Saw Carrie Stevens looking great, she is the proud Mom of a little boy and had the pictures for all to enjoy. Being a playmate herself, she fit in quite well and it is always good to see her. Lit, the band that you may have heard of had a few members in attendance who introduced themselves to me. Kevin the bass player actually spits fire this past year on tour. (A Gene/KISS fan for sure!) Shannon Tweed, mother of Gene's children as the Demon likes to say, was there along with her sister Tracy. It has been a while since I saw them together other than on TV's EXTRA. Of course the EXTRA cameras were in attendance as well, so I am sure the event will be on an upcoming show. Laughed with Gene about how intense his website is, and when does he have time to SLEEP!! KISS Dark Horse Comic Issue #1
From: DarkHorse.com
KISS Dark Horse Comic The supergroup/pop-culture phenomenon KISS rocks in the comics' spotlight once again in an all-new ongoing comic-book series written by X-Men's Joe Casey, scheduled for release in late July. Dark Horse Comics is publishing the new KISS series, having signed a deal with KISS frontman Gene Simmons after the annual Wizard World convention in Chicago last summer. KISS fans have previously seen the otherworldly exploits of their favorite band in past comic-book series published by Marvel Comics in the late 1970s and '80s, and by MacFarlane Comics during the late 1990s. The legendary Simmons said of the Marvel series, "KISS became superheroes," and notes that the MacFarlane series, influenced by the vision of Spawn creator Todd MacFarlane, "was born with a decidedly darker edge to it." Simmons is eager to tell comic-book fans that the new Dark Horse series takes a distinctly different approach to telling the band's story, especially compared to the MacFarlane comics series. "(Dark Horse publisher) Mike Richardson and I had a heart-to-heart about how we wanted to make the new KISS book a much more in-your-face superhero book, with lots of fun, over-the-top supervillains," explained Simmons during a recent exclusive interview with Dark Horse Comics. "Once we agreed that this was the right approach to take with the comics, I wanted to make sure that 'The Four Who Are One' premise pervaded in this series, as well," Simmons said, underscoring the "super team" aesthetic driving the creative direction of the new series. Former KISS Catalog Consultant Offers Seminar
From: Robert V. Conte/StudioChikara
Any KISS fan in the New York-area on Monday, June 17 should attend a one-of-a-kind seminar taught by former KISS catalog consultant, Robert V. Conte. Direct-to-Consumer Publishing is the event and is offered through The Learning Annex--New York City's leading organization dedicated to continuing education. In this informative class, Mr. Conte will teach how he started Studio Chikara in 1994 and, for almost eight years, was able to succeed by publishing titles that were exclusively offered to customers via direct-mail, radio and television, and other unusual outlets. Barry Levine's THE KISS YEARS, among Conte's largest successes, is one of the books he will use as an example throughout the seminar. "It is my hope that many KISS fans will attend this course," says Conte. "It will, most likely, be the one and only time I will discuss how the project came to fruition and show exactly how the book was conceived, licensed, financed, marketed, distributed and sold. Anyone who has a desire to learn how basic book publishing and licensing works should attend. If you ever had a dream to produce your own official KISS item, as I did, this class may help that dream become reality." If you would like more information about this event, please log onto www.learningannex.com. SPECIAL OFFER: Use the coupon code "Kiss" when registering and you will save an additional $10 for this course! Robert V. Conte has published direct-market books, comic books and merchandise for almost a decade. THE KISS YEARS, published in 1997, sold over 25,000 copies, most of which were sold direct-to-fans. Additionally, Robert has contributed to many official KISS items including Cornerstone Communications KISS trading cards Series One and Two, NECA's KISS ALIVE! trading cards, and his greatest achievement--writing liner notes and consulting on the remastering/repackaging of over twenty KISS albums. Gene Simmons And Peter Criss Kiss And Make Up?
From: Yahoo.com
(6/7/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Kiss bassist Gene Simmons had an official release party for Gene Simmons Tongue Magazine on Wednesday night (June 5) at Studio 54 in New York City. The party featured everything from midgets dressed up as Kiss playing "Rock & Roll All Night," to Playboy bunnies. There was even a visit by former Kiss drummer Peter Criss. After the encounter and embrace, LAUNCH asked Simmons about his relationship with Criss. "We saw each other, and like family you hug and you say 'Hi.' You wish each other the best. Anybody who thinks there's something else going on is just dreaming. We saw each other, that's all that's important. And whatever a family has to say to each other is really nobody's business. And so the Internet and the fans usually like to butt their heads right in the middle of it, it's really nobody's business," he said. When LAUNCH pointed out that it looked amicable, Simmons reiterated, "It's nobody's business. It's a family conversation." There is no word on whether or not Criss is back in the band. Kiss's Gene Simmons Reveals His 'Tongue'
From: Yahoo.com
(6/10/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- The first issue of Gene Simmons Tongue Magazine is now on newsstands. The magazine features Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, Donna D'Errico, and articles on Spider-Man and porn stars. Kiss singer-bassist Gene Simmons told LAUNCH about the magazine and plans for subsequent issues at a party for the magazine held on Wednesday (June 5) in New York City: "It's going to be like this all the time," he said. "I called Hef and I called Fred Durst and anybody and the beautiful girls just seem to show up. Wherever there's action. Get some Rolls Royce, baby, get some good-looking guys. A lot of power, a lot of money, they are there. It's like ants on a picnic." However, Simmons told LAUNCH Tongue does have some boundaries. "No nudity. I want to be sold everywhere. No risque stuff. Only stuff that makes you appreciate life. Every day above ground is a good day. It is a lifestyle magazine. It is about enjoying life. It is about beautiful women and making no apologies for it. Any wife that has a problem with it should go buy Bride magazine and leave us alone." [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons Tongue Licks the Big Apple
From: Ron Albanese / KISS Thought Vault

Ron & Peter Criss who attended the party.
Studio 54 has seen better days, at least in terms of random celebration and decadence. After getting true-to-the 1970s facelift for the film 54, it had a mini comeback, but most recently serves as home of Caberet. With the Gene Simmons Tongue launch party, Simmons and company shook up the disco Mecca with a wild, well-attended event that brought to mind the later days of the club's heyday way back when. "I'm really happy with the turnout," Publisher and CEO Allen Tuller remarked as we tried to catch up to his partner Simmons, who was taking the Extra camera crew on a tour of the festivities. He should have been impressed; with the full turnout of the NYC press core, publishing and music industry folk and yes, Kiss fans, the prognosis for his and partner Simmons' nascent men's magazine venture appears to be a healthy one ... or, a hint to startup a traveling circus. In one corner, four Kiss midgets lip-synched to "Detroit Rock City." After making an earnest effort to circulate, ringmaster Simmons held court slightly above it all in a small platformed area, where Playmates, latex lovelies The Nuns and NYC Habadasher Ivy Supersonic pressed the flesh. In between these spectacles a crushing mass of revelers hung out, danced and enjoyed the open bar. By the way, yours truly is in GST, having written a story entitled "King Fu Fighting," which is an overview of Mr. Elvis Presley's 19 years of Karate training. Naturally, the only thing I could think of wearing to this event was my Karate uniform, complete with a replica of Elvis' TCB (taking care of business) patch. ("That outfit is awesome," Anthrax bassist Frank Bello shouted to me over the din.) The Studio 54 party was just the first of three scheduled Gene Simmons Tongue fiestas, with Los Angeles and Las Vegas up next. Those cities have their partying work cut out for them, as New York set a standard that will be hard to beat. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Legendary Rockers Kiss Get Into Safe Sex Biz
From: Reuters
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Safe sex never looked this dangerous. Available online and coming soon to record stores and specialty gift shops near you are Kiss Kondoms, a line of contraceptives with members of the outrageous, face-painted rock band Kiss on the packaging. Now in its fourth decade, the band that recorded such rockers as "Love Gun", "Calling Dr. Love" and "Let's Put the X in Sex" is getting into the safe sex business in partnership with specialty condom retailer Condomania. "Sex without condoms is just stupid," said Kiss bass player Gene Simmons, who claimed in his autobiography, "Kiss and Make-Up" to have slept with more than 4,600 women, including romances with Cher and former Supremes diva Diana Ross. Billed as "Rock 'N' Rubbers," the first in the series are bright red latex condoms labeled "Tongue Lubricated." The box of three, which sells for $4.95, and the foil wrappers protecting the condoms are adorned with a head shot of Simmons in full makeup -- white face with black bat wings around the eyes -- with his famous tongue fully extended. Despite the racy name, Simmons said he had not personally lubricated the condoms, "however some deserving young ladies will get a personal demonstration, lots of them come to think of it." Simmons wanted to provide an alternative to the clinical looking condoms sold in drug stores. "Sex is always embarrassing for people, so when a guy whips out a Kiss condom and there's Gene Simmons's tongue hanging out it lightens up the situation," he told Reuters. "With the estimated millions of devoted Kiss followers this idea plays very well," said Condomania founder and President Adam Glickman. "The idea of merging Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and the Kiss trademark and legend with a product that stands for fun and sex jibes." Glickman, who started out selling condoms door-to-door at Tufts University in Boston in 1987, said it was too soon to project revenue from the Kiss Kondoms, "but we expect to sell hundreds of thousands of boxes." Two more versions are already in the works -- a studded condom dubbed the "Studded Paul" and adorned with a photo of Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley, and "Love Gun Protection," an extra strength version with the entire band on the packaging. If Kiss Kondoms do as well as Glickman expects, he said he would like to explore using other popular musicians on his products. He envisions a possible Ozzy condom, featuring bad boy rocker turned reality TV star Ozzy Osbourne, and a P. Diddy (the former Puff Daddy) version for the hip hop crowd.[Post Your Comments]
