  • Greatest Hits released
From: Julian of KISS Audio Trading, UK
Greatest Hits was released in the UK this morning. Yippie! As all the information about it is already available at my site, I can only add that the actual print on the CD is AWSOME! The rest of the packaging is suspect! The only other point of interest is that it has been released on the PolyGram TV label..... a video in the works as well? The three additional tracks all sound good, but I'm not sure if they're remasters. HTH certainly is, possibly LIU also. I've posted a full review of the album at my site, http://www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/3121/

"Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I must say John and I have busy writing the second half of our CD. I will have news shortly to announce regarding the name of the band the fourth member (bass player) and what is up regarding our label shopping. I will say we are very excited about the music and we can't wait to get out there and play for you all.
I will be in Detroit at the KISS EXPO on July 13th just in case you aren't aware. I will also play on tape some of the new music with John along with doing a full on solo clinic performance as in Europe and Australia.
So I think that day should be a good one. Call 313 326-9054 or 810 645-6666 for info. Take care to you all and by the way to KAOL CD is very Kool indeed! You fans are the best no doubt about it!! PS I need to show the guitarist on the Domino track some more of my licks!!"

  • Detroit KISS Convention Update
    From: Jeff Necker
    Hello Detroit Attendees,
Just to let you know, the pre-bash is kind of a free for all. The hotel has a bar in the lobby and there is nite-club that can be entered from the lobby. In past years we generally float around. The dealers usually hang out and talk KISS stuff. Most of them have great road stories from following the band around. This would be a great time to put faces with the E addresses.
As far as the convention goes; As you may have heard Dale Sherman (Black Diamond) will be at the show autographing the book and answering your questions about the book. If you don't have a copy, Don't worry he is bringing some to sell at his table. We are still unsure if Haley (the cover model) will be attending.
Now a special thank you to Mike from OTAKU. He helped me get in touch with the publishers of "GO FIGURE" magazine. They have generously agreed to let us debut the magazine at our Expo. I havn't worked out all the details yet, but I am sure we will be giving away at least one set as part of contest. They had a commitment to a comic show which starts 7-15, but they told me for this first issue, "KISS FANS should come first". The magazines are already set for the comic show, but they are setting aside some for OUR SHOW.
I think that's all the updates for now. I'll keep posting until the show. We hope to have more specias like GO FIGURE, so you can see the new stuff first hand.

  • KISS lyrics in a "TNT Monday Nitro" commercial break
    From:Jim
On monday night(June 23) while I was watching Monday Night Nitro on TNT there was a commercial for a new cartoon on the Cartoon Network. The cartoon is called "Johnny Bravo" and when they showed Johnny he was singing part of "C`mon and love me". The part Johnny sang was " Shes a dancer, a romancer, I`m a capricorn and shes a cancer". It really caught me by surprise and I wanted to let everyone know.

  • ANOTHER "Greatest Hits" album ...with Lick it Up!
    From: Mats "Snowie" Vassfjord
Well, I just got back from 4 shows here in Scandinavia, had VIP-laminates for all the shows..... Some great photos will be added to my site soon, at http://hem1.passagen.se/snwblind/

Meanwhile, here are the lowdowns on the new Kiss-album! Yes, there will be a new album out in about 2 weeks from now. I don't know any details about where it will be released, if it's worldwide or not, but I know it's being released in Europe! Ok, now for the disappointment: it's another compilation!!!!!!!! It's called Kiss: Greatest Hits. The cover is very nice, in light colors, with the first official reunion-pic as the cover-pic! Very nice package, except for one pic being backwards (how can they let that pass????). I only saw the cover, don't have it, or I would've scanned it for you all to see.... I did, however manage to write down the track-list, and here it is, in this order:

    1. Crazy, Crazy Nights
    2. I Was Made For Lovin' You
    3. Detroit, Rock City
    4. Lick It Up
    5. Hard Luck Woman
    6. Calling Dr. Love
    7. Beth
    8. Love Gun
    9. God Of Thunder
    10. Sure Know Something
    11. Deuce
    12. Do You Love Me?
    13. Strutter
    14. Rock and Roll All Nite
    15. Plaster Caster
    16. Hotter Than Hell
    17. Shock Me
    18. Cold Gin
    19. Black Diamond
    20. God Gave Rock n Roll To You II
Oh, and another thing: at the Copenhagen show on June 21st, was the first show where they sold the new dolls!!!!! [action figures] I only managed to get me a Peter and an Ace..... AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • "Black Diamond" book newsbit
    From: Dale Sherman
Just some things you may want to pass along if you want to:
It is definite that I will be appearing at the Detroit KISS Expo coming up here on July 13th. I will be there with the second edition of the book and signing for anyone that interested. (Don't feel you have to buy something from me in order to get a signature; if you buy a copy of BD from someone else or already have a copy, come on over and I'll sign it for you.) The Expo itself looks to be a good one, so if you're in the area, check it out.
As to Haley (the cover girl) making it, it's a possibility but not final yet. If she can't make it, we will have some stuff signed by her there as well, though.
Second edition of the book has been printed and is currently being shipped out to stores. If you have it on backorder, check the stores in 2 weeks or thereabout. That should be enough time for the distributors to get them to the bookstores and record shops that have ordered it.
For fans in the Dayton, Ohio area -- two old haunts of mine have signed copies of the FIRST edition still available. Dark Star Books in Yellow Springs, Ohio got the last remaining copies I had of the book and they're autographed. I used to work there, so I wanted to give them something special. Renaissance Music Media on Smithville Road in Kettering, Ohio has a few copies left that are not only signed by myself, but also by Haley (who also gave each one something extra. . . .). If you're in the area, check it out -- it's the best used record/CD/laserdisc store in Ohio.
And, finally, we now have interest from a couple of places in Australia for the book. A place called Utopia Import Records in Syndey has picked up the book, so if you're from around there, check it out. Their address is:
    636 George St
    Sidney, Australia 2000
    Phone # 9283-2423
That's about all for now. Thanks for everyone's patience with the book. It will get out there!

  • KISS on MTV Online
    From: Puppyo
    Saw this on MTV Online:
June 18 [16:00 EDT] -- While Kiss is currently in London on the latest leg of its marathon comeback tour, the band is looking forward to getting off of the road and beginning work on a new album with all four original members.
While promoting a July 5 blowout in Finsley Park, Paul Stanley spoke with our colleagues in MTV Europe about the notion of entering the studio with Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss again.
"Hopefully they'll live up to what I think it should be," Stanley said after the unveiling of four life-size replicas of the band members at a London rock museum. "You know, 'Detroit Rock City' I think of as a classic... 'Love Gun'... actually I wrote 'God of Thunder.' So, I'm gonna roll up my sleeves, put on my work clothes, and get to work. I want this to be the classic album, and I think it will be."
Of course, the band has some unfinished business to attend to before recording. The band, which has played to 2.5 million during its wildly successful reunion tour, still has to wrap things up in on its European tour before coming home to record.

  • KISS on Cover of "Marshall Law"
    From: Brian Wheeler
Ace and Paul are on the cover of the new Marshall amplifier magazine "Marshall Law". I asked the guy at the store how much it was and he said for me to take one. So I guess they are free. The picture on the front is basically the picture that appears in magazines of Ace and Paul standing in front of their wall of Marshalls. Just thought I would let you know.

  • KISS remasters price
    From: Ted Schmitz
I just got the good word at work (MUSICLAND) that the list prices for the remasters are as follows; KISS, HOTTER THAN HELL, DRESSED TO KILL, = C.D./ 11.98, CS./ 7.98 and ALIVE = C.D./ 24.98, CS./ 16.98
This means that the remasters should come out at the current price of the cds and not be marked up as speculated.

  • KISS tidbit
From: Jill Wenzloff from the KISS Army Mailing list
During the Bulls game on Friday, there were two guys who had won tickets from Brandmeier's (Chicago DJ) radio promotion dressed as Paul and Ace, sitting behind the Jazz bench cheering for the Bulls singing a modified version of RARAN.
Well, on David Letterman tonight, Dave's stagehand Biff was showing some tape of him covering the Bulls game, and they showed a clip of him asking these 2 KISS guys, in their full makeup, "um.. who are you guys cheering for?"
    It was pretty funny :)

  • KISS Guitar pics info
    From: Neil
This letter is going out to hardcore kiss collectors reguarding reunion tour guitar picks.
Many of you have bought single picks or sets of the reunion tour guitar picks from me. As most of you know the paul pick was always black with silver writing, gene was always white with black writing, and ace came in black, blue, red, white, and pink. The pink ace picks are now being sold by dealers for around 40.00 each because they are very hard to get. Congradulations to anyone who bought them off me for 15.00 each. There were also 2 other variations of picks that kiss used in the united states, a orange ace and a white gene with silver writing, these are so hard to get that i only know 1 person that has them and i have no idea what they would cost.
Anyway let me get to the point. There are 3 more guitar picks that have been made for the reunion tour that are rarer than the pink and probably just as rare as the orange ace and silver gene.
They are a white paul with purple writing, a green peter pick, and a white ace with blue writing.
These picks are rediculously rare and were supposedly used in europe (so when kiss throws out picks to the crowd-these picks went to the european fans)
The guy I get the picks from said he might be able to get me about 2 or 3 of the new picks, obviously these picks are going to be rediculously expensive, he hasn't even quoted me a price yet, but i assume it will be much higher than the pink ace.
This letter is going out to see if any of you guys are interested in the picks, unfortunately i don't know the price yet, but I will within a week, and I will only get a couple of each. There is a possibility that i might get a couple of extra peter picks.
EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE PICKS.
I also still have some regular sets of picks,a white gene,a black paul and a red ace,ace and paul picks can be bought seperately.

[KA Note: Again, this note was only added in regards to letting the Army know about the new picts. KA News is not a place to post want and sell ads. I just posted this note so the Army would be informed about the new pics.]

    From: Robbie Hamer
Last night on US satilite broadcasting network during the end of the news, kiss was shown ever so briefly holding toys of themselves. The report was a slur to kiss mentioning how people are tired of the same old products in toys. I don't know if anyone else saw it. It was late Saturday night.

    From: Mike Hendricks
Was flippign through the channels when I came upon ESPN and they were showing a cheerleading contest or something. Just as I was about to flip on by I heard the unmistakeable sound of RARAN. To my surprise the cheerleaders from Los Alomos High School danced and started breathing heavily. Quite a show.

  • KISS bootleg Live CD
    From: Tracy
Just wanted to report on a really good sounding "live" cd fom the reunion tour for all those out their in search of one. It is called KISS: "Rock Hard Again" It is a 2cd set from the soundboard of the 7/21/96 reunion show in Pittsburgh, PA. It is definitly the BEST sounding audio I have heard out there so far of the reunion tour. Like a lot of imports the cover is a little misleading. It has a promo shot of the band on the front from the ELDER era [which is actuall a very cool pix] but the cd is from the 7/21/96 show. Look for it at your local Import CD store. [As a reference, mine cost @$49.95]
[KA Note: KISS Asylum does not endorse the buying of KISS bootlegs, but is just posting this info for those that want to know.]

  • KISS in the UK
    From: Peter Hingle
Just some news from Kiss' recent trip to the UK.
The Rock Circus appearance was great, the band turned up, held a press conference, then mingled with the press at the Kiss Museum. The museum is a bit of a let down, 10 mannequins, a drum kit, an Ace guitar a Paul Guitar and Gene's Axe bass. The band seemed to be in good spirits, although they didn't sign anything or talk to the fans, they were doing a lot of interviews, so didn't have time. I filmed the whole thing, then in the evening myself and my buddy Simon went to the band's hotel and waited for about half an hour. We were the only fans at the hotel and the band returned at 7.30 PM in full costume, awesome!! They all signed stuff for us, except for Peter who seemed to be in a rush to get back into the hotel. It had been a long day for them, Ace was real upbeat and I asked him if the band would be recording a new album, he said yes and he also remarked that he had written songs already!! Gene was real cool and Paul was his usual bouncy self. A good day all round. The band were featured on TV quite a bit with a band interview on The Jack Docherty Show, a report on Channel One News and a report on a show called Exclusive. Only three weeks to go to the Finsbury Park show and this visit was like a big advert for the show, ticket sales are reportedly sluggish, that is an English problem, we as a nation don't appear to have a lot of time for Kiss, when they should really be selling out over here. Thats all for now!!!

  • KISS Alive in Utrecht
From: Juern of KISS Kollector Online
This is to let you know about the Utrecht-concert of KISS. They had the usual music and setlist, but after King of... Paul stopped the show!!
He said: "Utrecht! People in the front get hurt! You'll get the best show of your lifes, but please: everybody step back 3 steps, so people in the front won`t be hurt!"
As there was no reaction he said: "KISS Army! We don`t want our friends and your friends get hurt. We will play all nite, but step back so your friends will get get well!"
After five minutes he said: "People, we will take a minute until you step back."
Then the band left the stage, the lights in the hall went on and security and promoters put in a fence at the front and assembled everything. I think it took around 30 to 45 minutes before KISS came back and started as if there was no break.
By the way: during the break fans in the back of the hall started chanting "step back - step back" and clapped their hands. No panic rose up and there didn´t seem to be any anger.
They really took Utrecht by storm, even though Paul seemed to be pissed a bit. No announcing about "the family" or "we're honoured", just the usual announcements.
Thank you to KISS, I don´t know any band that cares so much for their fans that they'd leave the stage!

  • KISS Sighting (sort of)
    From: Kathie
This is only a sort-of kind-of KISS sighting, but KISS was mentioned. This morning on CNN Headline news, they did a 2-minute piece on marketing merchandise, and for a few seconds they showed 2 guys made up like Paul and Ace (you could see a little of a guy made up like Pete off camera), holding the new action figures, and "Paul" said "Come get it and be KISSed." It wasn't really them but they looked very close, and CNN never said it wasn't them. Most of the bit was about movie merchandise.

  • KISS Sighting (sort of)
    From: Mike Brandvold
Well, it's not the real KISS, but if you watch game six of the NBA finals tomorrow (Friday) behind the Utah bench you should see a fan dressed as KISS. Local radio station 97.9 The Loop has some seats that they are giving away to the loudest and most annoying fans, someone to distract the Jazz. The DJ is Johnny B, the guy who started all the mess with calling players in their rooms. So anyway, a group of guys dressed as KISS auditioned for the tickets. I don't think he gave all of them tix, only one. But they were singing "I wanna Rock N Roll All Nite, and KISS the Jazz goodbye!" So, tomorrow night watch the Bulls win ring number five and see KISS at the same time!

  • Official Signature Drum Kit
From: Doug Snazel of Ace Frehley.com / KNN Newswire
I have just caught word that the contracts are under negotiation with Pearl Drums for an offcial signature drum kit for Peter Criss.
The plans for this have been in the works a while, but I have been given the green light to announce this, to try and generate excitement and therefore push negotiations into the final stages. I understand the drum kit will be a very scaled down version and therefore very affordable to younger fans.
Peter hopes to promote the drum kit shortly after the tour ends this summer. No other details as of yet, but I will be in touch soon with others who can get more specific in terms of price and availability.
Also I understand there has been some discussion of re-releasing Peter's solo material from the 80's back onto CD, or we may see a "Greatest Hits" compilation, much like "12 Picks" this year.

  • KISS FAQ is coming down
From: KISS Otaku / KNN Newswire
Well, another landmark in the KISS web world is disappearing. The KISS FAQ is being closed down. Along with The KISS Network and Hunter's KISSserv, The KISS FAQ was one of the original KISS websites.
The KISS FAQ served a very important purpose... if you had question about KISS, most likely the FAQ had the answer!
When asked why the site was being closed, Alex Carranza, the webmaster, replyed, "The reason I'm taking the site down (besides the fact that I've neglected it eversince I graduated college and began working) is because I will be involved in a lawsuit against Joe Stevens, author of KISS: REVENGE IS SWEET, and Omnibus Press, the publisher of the book. I'm suing them over copyright infringement and plagerism.
Mr. Stevens took it upon himself to write a book using the FAQ as its basis, most times copying whole chunks verbatum, and in the case of his discography, copying it straight, including my comments, word by word. I've contacted a lawyer, and we're going ahead with the suit.
I'll keep all the files and perhaps I will put the page up again when litigation is through, and I find a better way to protect the intellectual property of myself as well as of those people who contributed to it."

  • KISS Puzzles
    From: Shaun
We all know that KISS is the best band in the world, right?! OF COURSE! That's why I'm here to tell about a new 1 dollar per two month booklet. What kind of booklet? Well... a puzzle booklet. Yes, a booklet full of KISS puzzles. For the past three or four months, I've been working hard to make KISS related puzzles. I am NOT a magazine publisher, therefore, this looks nothing like a magazine. There are no glossy covers and color photos, but more like a 12 page black and white printed on computer paper and stapled together booklet. I have named it KISS Puzzles! It's a very small, very cheap, way of playing some KISS puzzles. For example, there is something called Hidden Song, in which where you have to find the hidden song using lyric excerpts to crack the song, or Write In Words, where you write in as many words as you can using a KISS related sentence.
You might be thinking, it sounds boring, and I'll tell you this: You have a smart-ass brain! But, it's a bi-monthly puzzle booklet.
Subscriptions are cheap! It's only $6.00 and you get 6 issues per year! C'mon, it's only 1 dollar per issue!

    Each booklet contains:

    • 3 hidden song puzzles
    • 3 write in word puzzles
    • 1 KISS CROSS (crossword)
    • 1 Trivia challenge
    • 1 randomly selected puzzle.

Some issues may contain contests to win new KISS merchandise (KISS figures, CD's, etc.) Most issues will hopefully contain fan letters. Sound good? Want to pay a kid's allowence for some KISS Puzzle fun?! Well, first, e-mail me at kisss@lwtc.ctc.edu to confirm the subscription, and everything else will be taken care of from there! Thanx!

  • KISS on the Moon???
From: Jarod on the KISS Army Mailing list
I found this on a fax we get at the station from the Spin Radio Network. It's from the June 2, 1997, SPINFAX ROCK:
    KISS on the Moon?
In addition to the action figures, coffee-table book, Muzak, $600 biker jackets, golf clubs and mini-blinds, KISS has reportedly now set its sights on the moon. The Remasked Ones apparently got the idea from spaceman guitarist Ace Frehley, and have been nosing around the aerospace industry a bit, asking how they might become the first rock band to ever play a gig on the moon. Sheesh...guess Gene Simmons is more eager for notoriety than he is afraid of heights. Wait'll he finds out that NASA won't allow groupies on a spaceship.

    From: TonyinJC@aol.com
Just got done watching an MTV news break and they talked about some KISS stuff.
First they talked about the KISS Visa card saying that you can it with a picture of the band or just the logo. It has a $20.00 annual fee and a 16.9% APR. They also referred to KISS as a juggernaut.
Second they showed the figures. And they also showed the packaging with the Paul figure and how his weapons and stuff work. They said the figures cost about $10.00 [$7.99] each.
And last they talked about MUZAK. Thay said Gene Simmons contacted them and the songs should be ready before the end of summer. Songs included Beth, Every Time I Look at You [A World Without Heroes, Sure Know Something].

In other Kiss related news there are now TV ads for the Finsbury Park Show which are real cool, they play a bit of Rock N Roll All Night, Love Gun and Detroit Rock City, whilst showing some new live clips.
Gene Simmons gave an interview on Channel 4 Teletext service, which is quite enlightening, he talks about the new Kiss-Greatest Hits album coming out over here on June 30th as well as The Spice Girls(!), he likes them all, and would love to meet them!
Finally there is a Wax Museum in Picadilly Circus called The Rock Circus, which from Thursday 12th June, will be having a Kiss exhibit, don't know what it is yet, but I am going on Thursday, so I will report back then!

  • New KISS Album
    From: J.C. Gill
Just checked Tower Records site: KISS-Greatest Hits is released in the UK on June 30th in anticipation of the Finsbury gig.... I think it's a repackaged GK. Cover art is now posted on my site-

Tower Records also said that Greatest Hits featured Crazy Crazy Nights, so it looks like the album will be an update of Smashes, Thrashes and Hits....

  • KISS: New European Tourbook info!!
    From: Mike Ruzek
The new EuroTourbook has 40 color pages. Front cover is similar to the US one but it's silver with black text Alive/Worldwide 1996-1997 and the black KISS logo. Back cover is silver with Kiss logo and signes of each member. Tourbook includes fold-out poster (68x52 cm). (Kiss at the end of the show with bombs, confetti). Includes signs of each member. Shot from the first row of the stage.

Text: (rewritten from the whole Tourbook)
Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss are no strangers to opposition. Faced with one seemingly unconqerable obstacle after another during their early years as a high-powered rock ensemble on the gritty streets of New York City, the members of KISS overcame every hurdle, big and small, as they steamrolled along their ultimate path to rock and roll glory. So when KISS announced to the world the reunion of its four founding membersback on April 16, 1996 aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid, anchored in New York´s Hudson River, skeptics argued that even a full-blown reunion tour could never match the grand scale of the band´s famed monumetal treks from one end of the glove to the other during the late Seventies. But what these nay-sayers failed to realize is that the work "never" is not part of the KISS vocabulary-never has been, never will be. Faced with resistance, KISS-as they haddone so many times before-had no choice but to crush the opposition with their deadly seven-inch heels the way Godzilla stomps buildings into ruble. By the time the KISS Alive/Worldwide 1996-1997 Tour would come to a close, all the cynics would be begging for mercy-wishing they had known all along what the KISS Army had always known: that a KISS reunion tour would be an event for the ages. With leather boots laced, faces smeared with greasepaint and instruments at the ready like weapon of ultimate destruction, KISS prepared once again to give audience worldwide the greatest show on earth.
The first city to fall victim to the explosive firepower of the massive new KISS stageshow was an easy target for the band to select, as Detroit, Michigan - Rock City! - had always been their home away from home. The June 28, 1996 concert at the Tiger Stadium-with 38.000 dedicated soldiers of the KISS Army in attendance-sold out in a record 47 minutes, making it clear to even the most stubborn detractor that planet might not be big enough to contain the sheer magnitude of the long awaited KISS reunion tour.
    Worldwide? Next time it's Universal!
For the next tour months, the spectacular KISS stageshow-complete with enough pyrotechnics to singe eyebrows and decibels high enough to blow eardrums-plowed across American soil leaving only dust in its wake. The schedule was as rigid and as demanding as anything the band had undertaken in their illustrious career, with each and every show registering and advance sellout-including a triumphant four-night homecoming at New York City's hallowed Madison Square Garden. Attendance records were blown to smithereens left and right as the band took America by storm, inluding two sold-out shows in Omaha, Nebraska that shattered the record formerly held by Elvis Presley. But KISS obviously belongs to the entire wolrd-a fact made clear the minute the band lest American shores and headed to Europe in November, 1996. Sell out crowds greeted their conquering heroes with wild, borderline psychotic, devotion at every turn, including dates in Manchester, London, Paris and record-breking double header in Prague, Czechoslovakia (error !!! - it was in Czech Republic - Czechoslovakia doesn´t exist no more from early 90's).
At the calendar page fliped over to 1997-a moment in time ushered in by the band's live appereance on worldwide television via Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve annual special-KISS set its sights on the rest of the world. Six concert in Japan, sellouts in New Zeland, Australia, Mexico City, Chile, Argentina-every corner of globe conquered. With almost nowhere else left to play, most bands at this point would have paced their bags and headed home for a long vacation-but as only KISS understands, why go home when you don't have to? There are always more places to play-something the band proved on the "Lost Cities" tour.
KISS second run across the United States began in April, 1997. Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Peoria, Illinois; Topeka, Kansas; Frgo, North Dakota-no matter how remote the location, KISS fans turned out in droves to witness firsthand the spectacle that already blown apart cities the world over.
With so much of the planet already in ruin from the destructive force of witnessing KISS unleashed in their natural habitat-the stage-the band knew that one more blitzkrieg across Europe would complete this mammoth expedition of rcok and roll would domination they began 12 months earlier. Colossal outdoor stadiums in Germany, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Portugal serve as the final battlegrounds-for now! And after the smoke clears on July 5, 1997 in London, England, no section of the world will have been spared.
12 months. 192 shows. 4 million people blown away. Earth is in shambles. Bring on the Universe.

    From: Steve and Kristine
Last week, I looked for the book at Barnes and Noble. The lady there took my number and told me the book was on order. I then received a call Friday telling me the publisher was out of stock and that the book was in its second printing and would hit the shelves in 6-8 weeks. I don't know if this is news, but I thought I'd pass it on.

  • KISS tidbit from Norway
    From: Tore Raaen
KISS was about to cancel the Oslo concert on 19 June. The reason was that the band was tired and wanted a minor vacation. However KISS was convinced to play the gig. So don't worry my Norwegian friends...KISS will perform.
I read an article in the Norwegian Newspaper "Aftenposten". The Norwegian national-team in soccer went to Budapest a coupple of days ago, because of the world-cup qualifier against Hungary this sunday. Anyway, 4-5 players went to the KISS concert in Budapest!!! They showed a reunion-photo of the band as well...

    From: Steve Jenkins
In the June-July issue of Non-Sport Update there is an article about the new KISS cards. Basically, there is nothing special about the article although, Walter Rowan, Cornerstone Communication's Managing Director, is quoted as saying "Don't be surprised if our KISS cards outsell "Star Wars" or "X-Files" cards. There are also a few pictures of some of the cards: one with KISS sitting in front of the logo at the press conference, another picture of the band from the reunion photo shoot, An Ace card featuring him and his smoking Les Paul with Ace's signature in the upper left hand corner, one with Gene holding a gila monster(c'mon now, ...like the picture in the tourbook!!~!) It's 1977 all over again!!!!

  • KISS on Swedish TV - Correction!!!
    From: Martin Lofgren
As already been mentioned, there will be a program on Swedish TV about KISS June 10th at 11.10 PM. However, it's on the channel "TV 1" and nothing else. Whatever you do, don't miss this one. Kiss was everything but popular among people working for Swedish Television in the 70's and 80's. I guess those people are out of the picture now fortunately. Only one thing though - the title "The Second Comming", "Kiss is back" or however you'd like to translate the title of the program, somehow says that Kiss hasn't been around for some time. This is NOT true. Kiss has been there all the time!!!!!!

Today Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that Kiss' soldout shows in Stockholm may be a threat to air safety. Says Gene Simmons: "No planes can fly over the stadium when we play. We have rockets and fireworks shooting up to 150 metres in the air. Everybody knows that we like the XXL effects, but of course we don't wanna risk anything. Therefore, we've contacted all the nearby-located airports to make sure that all planes are re-routed during the concerts."

  • KISS in Entertainment Weekly
    From: MzCharisma
Hey everyone! Just wanted to let those of you who actually care about every little blurb know that KISS is in the June 6 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine in avery minor way. In their "The Week" part of the Music section there's a small box titled "Plastic Peddlers of the Week" (page 69....huh huh huh). This is what it says (not much):

    KISS
Fans who wanna rock & roll all night....and part with their money every day can now charge their leather pants on the KISS Visa card, available soon through Beverly Hills bank Wilshire Financial.

That's it. It's accompanied by a funny looking little caricature of Gene, in which he's sticking out his tongue and there's a little (charge) card on the end of it that says KI$$.
It's definately not something you need to run out to the store to get, but if you happen to be in a check out line this week with nothing to do maybe it'll give you something to glance at!

  • Note from Dale Sherman
    From: Dale Sherman
Got back from the Cleveland KISS-A-RAMA convention late Sunday night and wanted to post a note that I appreciate everyone who came to the show and stopped by my table to talk about BLACK DIAMOND.
Thanks to everyone, I sold out all of the copies I had with me that day. What was especially great is that probably one out of every three who came up said they had heard about the book on the internet and had heard how great the book was. I really appreciate everyone's effort in getting the word out on the street about the book, especially in light of the slow distribution of the book so far.
Incidently, KISS Otaku will be posting some photos of myself and the cover girl, Haley, sometime later this week, along with a brief interview I did with Joe from the KISSIN' TIME radio show.
Beyond that, things are still going well for the next printing of the book, and it should be out (and finally) in the stores around the second to third week of June.

So without further ado here's the most important/interesting details from the concerts and a couple of other news updates. The setlist on this European tour reads like this: Deuce, King Of The Night Time World, Let Me Go Rock 'N Roll Do You Love Me, Firehouse, Watchin¹ You, Shock Me,Calling Dr. Love, Shout It Out Loud, Love Gun, Cold Gin, I Was Made For Lovin¹ You, God Of Thunder, New York Groove, 100.000 Years, Black Diamond and encores: Detroit Rock City, Beth and Rock And Roll All Nite.
The band is having more fun than ever, regularly laughing, smiling and fooling around on stage (especially Gene & Ace) and whenever one of them happens to make a mistake the others just smile about it. Whenever the venue is capable of it, Paul flies to his own private stage to do Love Gun whereas some venues aren't big enough for Peter's drumriser (a hydraulic lift under the stage) so he then doesn¹t rise during Black Diamond or not high enough for Gene to fly to the top of the lighting truss. Also, with the exception of the first two shows the band isn't wearing nailpolish anymore and Ace didn't go down on his knees during Black Diamond. The helicopter was only present at the second show, one of the world's biggest Open Air festivals: Rock am Ring festival at the Nurburgring in Germany. This show, by the way, has been filmed by MTV Europe and aprox 55 minutes of the 2 hour show have been aired by MTV (30 minutes were broadcasted live from the festival, the other 25 minutes were aired one week later during MTV's Rock am Ring Weekend - including very short and useless Œinterviews¹ with the band backstage at the fest). Due to KISS getting on stage too late, MTV couldn¹t air the scheduled full first hour of the show - as the satellite apparantly had only been booked for one hour - so they filled the first half hour with another rerun of the documentary 'Second Coming' and therefore missed the first two songs in their livebroadcast...
Although most venues were very crowded, KISS' most successful world tour ever starts to face some problems: the May 22 show at the big outdoors Leipzig Festwiese had been rescheduled and took place indoors in the smaller Messegelande (a congresscenter) and the shows in Warsaw (Poland) and Lisbon (Portugal) have been cancelled due to poor ticketsales. But this doesn't seem to bother the bandmembers' good mood. On June 2 Gene faxed the fanclub from the hotel in Switzerland where the band is currently staying to say that "we're having a ball".
The merchandise, which slightly differs from show to show (not all of it is available at each and every show), includes: a very cool brandnew Tourbook that says "Euro/World" on the first page inside - it includes photos of Paul flying over the crowd and many other live photos and also a separate fold-out poster; "I Was There" t-shirts for each city with a very cool live shot of the band on the front (the same photo also appears in the new tourbook), the backprint has a picture from the USS Entrepid press conference (the band standing in front of the lighting logo) and says "I Was There" plus the date and "setting (name of city) on fire"; the same frontprint and backprint but different text on back: "Hottest Band In The World"; World Tour t-shirt with Destroyer style band picture on globe of the world on front while back lists all US/European tourdates for Œ97; all over tye dye t-shirt with the Rock And Roll Over artwork on the front and the Alive/Worldwide Œ96-97 logo on the back; the 1996-97 tour t-shirt from last year; a black/white baseball shirt with the KISS Army logo; last year's soccer style shirt; the black baby t-shirt; a t-shirt that says on the back: "KISS Rock And Rule The World" while the front has a cool picture of the band inside the map of the USofA; phonecards; silver and gold coins; KISStory book; Metal Edge "KISS Rocks The World" Special; keychain; baseball cap.
Opening acts (including on the festivals) so far included: Die Arzte, Neneh Cherry, Silverchair, Reef, Live, Otto, Alkbottle, Naked Lunch, Moonspell and Sextiger.
In other news: manager Doc McGhee had invited Jon Bon Jovi's parents to join his parents on a trip to Australia last February. And what a trip it was, as they were touring with KISS - so obviously they were hanging out with the bandmembers backstage and took some cool pictures.
The new beautiful McFarlane Toys catalogue includes an awesome KISS section (4 pages), obviously mainly about the action figures but also mentioning things like "-over 25 KISS fanzines and fan clubs worldwide -over 22 KISS web sites on the Internet -sold over 80 million albums worldwide -KISS is developing an animated Saturday morning series for 1998"
In Holland a new Hard Rock & Heavy Metal schoolagenda for 1997-98 is available as of now, including bits 'n pieces on KISS and an article on KISS merchandising for which the photos have been provided by the KISS Kollector Fanclub.
Cornerstone Communications socalled Preview Set of the official KISS trading cards ship this month, it¹s a 9-card set. In July Series 1 follows with 90 foil-stamped cards plus randomly-inserted chase cards. The promo cards look very promising.
The unauthorized book "KISS & Tell" is being shipped since May 30. It includes over 220 pages. When ordering through Pitbull Publishing (P.O. Box 350; Fleetwood, NY 10552-0350) the price varies from $23,95 (USA) to $29,95 (or $49,95 if you prefer overnight shipping) for most other countries.

  • KISS news and the Stanley Cup
    From: Tommy "the riffmaster" Rifai
You may already know that KISS has become the Detroit Red Wings pump up band , so to speak. The Wings play Detroit Rock City at the beginning of every home game. There are signs of the cartoon octopus mascot around the city saying "GET UP" (surely inpired by the song) and if you watched game one of the Stanley (good name) Cup finals you saw a Stanley Cup promo commercial featuring KISS in full recent make-up singing R & R all nitewith Gene dubbing in "go cup crazy" where we'll drive you crazy usually is (this was done over the original Dressed to Kill version.

This ad features a pict of Chubby Checker and above him it is reads"Twist" and next to him is a picture of Gene Simmons in 1979 Dynasty attair and is says "Twisted". I thought it was a pretty funny advertisement.
