Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
Hello everyone. I just got back from Puerto Rico, and I am proud to say that once again a successful KISS expo has occurred. The fans were great and the crowd at over 400 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Old San Juan, made for an amazing evening for all. I jammed with the promoters band, Rolando Lugo from Black Star Entertainment, and did three songs which included "Do You Love Me," "Strutter," and "Christine 16." This was after warming up with a few licks, and the Star Spangled Banner to the delight of the crowd. After a Q&A and the jamming and singing, U.S. tribute band "Mr. Speed" played for over 2 hours and impressed the crowd with their passion for all things KISS (in make-up of course)! Prior to the big show day, Mr. Speed and myself got to do some great press. We were on TV twice and that was very cool. One of the times was at a "Blood Drive" (very Kiss like if you ask me) and then at a popular Spanish speaking variety show. All went well and a big thank you to Rolando and his lovely woman Irmaris who set up these events. [Read The Full Message...] [Post Your Comments]

Shaquille O'Neal & Gene Simmons To Talk About Action Movie
From: Yahoo.com
There's no question about it -- Shaquille O'Neal is indeed superman. We spoke Thursday between his meetings for movies, TV, music, promotions for Ford's Shaquille SST Ford Expedition -- and basketball. He's talking a feature film production next week with Gene Simmons of KISS. "It would be an action movie," he promises. "I want to do more of them." [Post Your Comments]

KISS Thought Vault: Report From Gene's Surpise Birthday Party
From: Ron Albanase
Ken & Gene At first it seemed to be another hot late-summer day (she wore lingerie). I had done some writing, drank about a gallon of espresso... and then the phone rang. It was Boot Camp's recreation director and Bruce Kulick biographer Ken Gullic. "Dude, I have an invite for Gene's surprise birthday party." Is it plus one, I pondered. I don't ordinarily invoke mental references to Ace Frehley EPs upon myself, but in this case it was apropos. "It's plus one," he said, as if reading my mind. Then again, he didn't hum a singe note of "Words are Not Enough." We went, he was there, and it's now newsworthy Kiss stuff. Here's a quick account of a party thrown in Gene's honor last night in the naked city, courtesy of Ivy Supersonic (they make hats and stuff) at Cafe DeVille. Gene showed up about 11 p.m. (with a decent-looking birdie in tow) and at first hung out on the sidewalk signing autographs and socializing. [Read The Report!] [Post Your Comments]

To all KISS fans, as previously reported, the Montreal KISS expo has switched venues. The Expo will be at the Delta Hotel at 475 President Kennedy avenue in downtown Montreal and not at the Maritime Hotel Plaza! For those of you who are still calling the Maritime Plaza for info, be aware that it's not the right place to call. Gene On Howard Stern: Highlights
From: Brett Meyer
Gene on Stern I listened to Howard Stern this morning. Mostly the usual, except for a few new nuggets: (1) Gene Simmons' Tongue Magazine (Playboy meets Rolling Stone meets Maxim) out before Christmas on newsstands. It will be published by Sterling McFadden (who publishes their special mags). (2) The Miss Nude Pagaent he hosted recently will be on HBO soon. He claims he was paid $200,000 to do it. (3) He cut his hair to appear in some films (contracts need to be signed, yadda yadda). (4) Craig, the comedian who does the Gene impression, had make-up on this time. Should be cool to see when the episode airs. As always, the segment was an orgy of shameless self-promotion. [Photo from MC] [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons On Howard Stern: Full Report
From: Marksfriggin.com via Greg P
The real Gene Simmons of KISS came in this morning to promote all things KISS. As soon as Gene came in another "Gene Simmons" came walking down the hall, very slowly, and into the studio. Craig Gass was all dressed up in a full KISS outfit. Craig was doing his amazing "Gene Simmons" impression like he did the last time Gene was on the show. We had Dueling Gene Simmons' again today. Howard said the real Gene was dressed up like a business man today. "Gene" told Howard that the latest KISS product is the KISS toilet which will be a pay toilet and "Gene" himself will come out to collect the money from you every month. He said there will also be a "KISS Douche" on sale soon also. Jessica Hahn called in and said she was unable to tell the difference between the two "Genes" on the radio. She said she's met the real Gene a few times and she thinks they might have had sex but she wasn't so sure they wanted to talk about that. She eventually said she gave Gene oral sex. Howard filled Gene in on Jessica's current situation. She's not married but she's got a rich guy supporting her. She hooked up with the creator of "Married with Children" and he's got her in an apartment. They screw each other but live in separate homes. They spent a few minutes on that subject before Jessica got off the phone. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

KISS ASYLUM Video Spotlight - Interview With Eddie Trunk
From: KISS ASYLUM / Byron Fogle
Bruce & Eddie Well, since they seemed to have gone over pretty well in the past I figured I'd remove my Video Spotlight hat and don my interview hat once again. What I have in store for you is a real treat. What you are about to read is an interview I recently completed with WNEW DJ (and fellow NJ resident) Ed Trunk. For those of you not familiar with Ed or his credentials I'll give you a brief run down, He worked for Megaforce Records in the 80's and was responsible for the label signing Ace Frehley, among others. Ed also has a credit as executive producer on the 2nd sighting album. In the early 80's Ed started working as a DJ for WDHA a local radio station here in Northern NJ, later moving on to Q104 in NY and finally to WNEW also in NY where he hosts Saturday Night Rocks (a hard rock-heavy metal show) from 10-2 (unless Mike Piazza is the guest then it goes a bit longer usually LOL). Dark Horse Comics To Release New KISS Comics
From: RockRage.com
A new line of comic books featuring the images of legendary rockers KISS is in the works for next spring. Dark Horse Comics confirmed at this past weekend's Wizard World Comic Convention in Chicago, that they will publish the series of comics telling a tale with the characters of The Demon, Starchild, Space, and Cat Man. Bassist Gene Simmons will oversee much of the creativity behind the project as well as choosing, along with Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson, the writers and artists to be used for the books. This will be KISS's third outing into the world of comic books.  Marvel Comics first published a KISS comic book in the late seventies. Todd McFarlane Productions printed a KISS Psycho Circus comic in the nineties. [Post Your Comments]

Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
Well with summertime in full swing, of course I have been busy with shows every weekend with Grand Funk Railroad. We have been making fans and enjoying performing. If you have seen us, you know that I have been having a great time with the guys. We hit some big State Fairs and some amazing Biker events. I felt like a "Woodstock 1969" vibe at some of these shows which was very cool. I play the Star Spangled Banner like Hendrix in the show now before the classic guitar GFR song, "Inside Looking Out." So it all fits in with summer in the USA. Speaking of the National Anthem, I will be performing it at a Canadian Major league ballpark on September 8th in Montreal. I have to thank the Demon, Dale Torborg, who is working with his Dad for the Montreal Expo's. I will only perform the U.S. Anthem for the event and NOT the Canadian one. So if you are in town for the KISS expo the next day, come to the game! I am off to Puerto Rico in August for the first ever KISS expo. Very excited about that one and I will have pix and a full report for you all. Norway is booked in late September, and that should be amazing. There are always great fans there! I have some other upcoming events that I will promote as it get closer such as the Baltimore KISS Expo on October 14th. [More At KULICK.net...] [Post Your Comments]

Kiss Ace Frehley Goodbye
From: ABCnews.com via Terri Diane Bey
Before Kiss can kiss America goodbye, Ace Frehley is going to need a new contract. Technically, as of today, Ace is no longer with the group. His contract has expired. Should Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley decide to do more shows, Ace would have to have a new contract. Though he's been playing with the band since the 1970s, Frehley works just as a freelancer. The rockers toured Australia in April, and after the gigs, Frehley's contract ran out. The goodbye tour was expected to be completed this fall with a possible night at New York's Shea Stadium. If the concert is booked, Frehley will need a new contract to join Gene Simmons onstage. Peter Criss left the tour in January for unstated reasons, according to Sonicnet.com. Simmons also plans to release a four CD box set in November, and according to Sonicnet.com the batch will include 20 unreleased tracks. [Post Your Comments]

Gene At Wizard World 2001
From: David Viglielmo
Gene Simmons I was one of the lucky people to get 150 of the tickets on Saturday. After arriving 30-45 min late, Gene was nice enough to sign anything you wanted and to talk and actually listen to you. His hair still is short, but looked relaxed and was in very good spirits. He of course took more time to talk to the women and line actually stopped when a young blonde all dressed up with not much on, insisted on walking behind the booth and talking to Gene. We overheard him saying that the boxed set will be released Nov. 6. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Army Loses One Of Its Own
From: Jimi Gary II
The KISS ARMY loses one of its own. Mathew Jeffrey Hunter [1/28/86 - 7/30/01] was a fighter with an incredible attitude. He was diagnosed with Leukimeia at the age of 3. His chemo treatment was successful and he went into remission for about two years. Then Mat relapsed... another round of chemo and radiation, it was successful. At the age of 11 he was introduced to KISS by his uncle and dear friend, Dave Semans. He was in remission until 1999 when they found a form of testicular cancer(they think puberty brought it on). That same year he received a bone marrow transplant. He lived in the hospital for about 8 months and listened to KISS the whole time. He healed quickly and was released to go back to school last fall (where he won their Halloween costume contest as Gene). He finally got to see KISS on there final date in Texas of the farewell tour. He had also picked up the guitar and started lessons (he bought a Washburn and was saving for the Paul Stanley model). In January 2001 he started showing signs of transplant rejection. The steroids they put him on made him shake so badly that he tried different braces and methods so he could play his guitar. He was put in the hospital about two months ago with a fungal infection of the lungs and chest. He listened KISS all the time and sent his mom out to get KISS pinball for the Play Station. When conventional methods didn't work, part of his right lung was removed, but it didn't help. He then under went an experimental surgery that removed a rib and collapsed his chest trying to smother the infection. His last days were spent sedated on a respirator surrounded by friends, family, and inspirational quotes (for example "You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best..."). Mat loved music. He loved KISS. He loved helping others. During his final stay in the hospital, Mat (as sick as he was) mentored a five year old bone marrow transplant patient. He told his friends and family not to worry about him, they should help themselves and others first. His uncle said, "that was his way." His ultimate wish is "for others to be kinder to one another and help each other out." Please try to make his wish come true. Two memorial funds has been setup, in Mat's name, through the Eric Carr Memorial Fund and the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund. The choice is yours ( http://www.tjmartellfoundation.org/tj_home.html ). Please make a donation in Mathew Jeffery Hunter's name and send it to: Eric Carr Memorial Fund or Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, 555 Madison Ave.,3rd Floor, New York, NY 10022 [Post Your Comments]

Gene At Wizard World 2001 Report
From: parasite@davesworld.net
Gene was at the Chicago Con today to announce that Dark Horse would be publishing new KISS comics in 2002. He was in VERY good spirits. They only let 150 of us get autographs via "tickets" that were handed out. The funniest part was that they handed out tickets about an hour before gene showed up. and the crowd nearly tore Dark horses' booth down to get tickets...all the employees were VISABLY shaking...it was funny. Gene was his usual p.r. mode self and ignored the tickets and signed pretty much for everybody that wanted him to. He also spent a bit of time walking around the convention floor about an hour later and also signed stuff. People were following him around like he was jesus...It was cool. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Movie Soundtrack News
From: KissArmyMovie@aol.com
The deadline for the submissions for the soundtrack is August 25th. After that, we will be moving to a new location. Thanks to all those who have and will be sending their submissions. Further updates regarding the movie/soundtrack will be posted on KISSASYLUM in the future when news info. becomes available. To remind everyone regarding the movie/soundtrack, we are in the process of developing an independent film, a comedy about a couple of hardcore "know it all" KISS fans in their quest to reach their destination, that being the final KISS show. Along the way, they will challenge each other in their knowledge of facts regarding the band as well as teaming up in challenging other fans in a "hijinks" comedy about reaching their destination. Although what I've described sounds similar to "Detroit Rock City", it is nothing like it and is more of a true KISS fan's movie, a "For the fans by the fans" project. Once again, many thanks again to those who've sent their submissions to have their own music included on the soundtrack. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Box Set Includes 20 Previously Unreleased Tracks
From: Sonicnet.com

Among the rarities are early demos of "Deuce" and "Strutter"; demos from recording sessions for Destroyer (1976), Rock and Roll Over (1976), Love Gun (1977) and Unmasked (1980); 1973 concert recordings of "Acrobat" and "Firehouse"; and cuts by Wicked Lester, the group Simmons and Paul Stanley played in before forming Kiss in 1973, the band's publicist said. "On the heels of the wildly successful Alive/Worldwide Reunion Tour KISS faced the challenge of following the highly successful live reunion with a more challenging studio reunion. Not since "Dynasty", in 1979, had the original members of KISS released an album together. However, one could really look back to 1977's "Love Gun" as being the last true KISS album since once the solo albums happened the band was in break down internally. Simply, Peter was absent from much of "Dynasty" and the other members were playing musical-chairs with their basic instruments, a practice which would become commonplace as the band entered the 1980's. The opportunity that recording a new album had was to expand on the reunion theme, and early on it was decided to gear the album towards the Psycho Circus theme. With the amount of merchadise that was already pointed in that direction it was too good of an opportunity to pass up..." [Learn Your KISSTORY Lesson!] [Post Your Comments]

KISS Boxed Set Due In November
From: Launch.com
KISS fans, get your holiday gift lists ready--the band's long-awaited boxed set comes out in the fall. Originally planned for release in time for Halloween, the four-CD, 80-song set is due November 6 from Mercury Records. It will feature rarities including music from Wicked Lester, the pre-Kiss band that featured Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, as well as a live take of "Firehouse" and demo recordings of "Deuce" and "Strutter," all of which were featured in their final versions on Kiss's self-titled debut in 1974. The track list, which is still being firmed up, covers the band's entire history, although it was unclear at press time how the discs would be laid out. In addition, discussions have been held to make the actual box that house the collection different from that of any other retrospective, although none of the Kiss spokespeople would say what the surprise will be. KISS Kollected For 4 Disc Box Set
From: Billboard.com
Kiss fans now have more to look forward to than the announcement of what are expected to be the band's final live shows ever. On Nov. 6, Mercury will release an 80-track, four-disc box set spanning the band's entire career. Along with Kiss' best known songs will be about 20 rare tracks, including early demos of the songs "Strutter" and "Deuce," rare live recordings of "Firehouse" and "Acrobat" recorded in 1973, as well as recordings of the pre-Kiss incarnation of the band, Wicked Lester. Compiled and designed with substantial input from the members of the band, the box set will also include a 96-page booklet with rare photos and a band history. In other news, the holiday episode of the Fox animated series "The Family Guy" to which the members of Kiss contributed their voices last year is expected to air this season. Originally intended for broadcast last year, "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas" was shelved when the show was put on hiatus. A spokesperson for the network says the series is slated in for Fox' upcoming Thursday night line-up, so it is probable the episode will air in December. The Kiss Farewell tour kicked off in March 2000, and wrapped its most recent leg with March dates in Japan and Australia. As previously reported, original drummer Peter Criss was replaced by one-time Kiss drummer Eric Singer for that most recent round of tour dates. At the time, Criss said that bandleaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley ceased negotiations with him regarding the tour. It is possible he will be back in the fold when the band plays its final gigs, but nothing about further shows, nor Criss' status in Kiss, has been announced. [Post Your Comments]

Ace Out Of KISS?
From: EddieTrunk.com
Once again, SNR made MAJOR headlines when JJ French of Twisted Sister announced last Saturday that Ace Frehley told him he was no longer in KISS! Every web site and magazine has chased this story. Incredible response from SNR, it blows me away every time. I haven't spoken with Ace in a month or so, but I have found out the REAL DEAL, as you would expect from this site. Ace is out of KISS, BECAUSE THERE IS NO KISS RIGHT NOW! As you all know by now, KISS is a business. Ace doesn't have a new contract with the band, his last one expired after the final Australian show. Like any employee in a high profile job, you don't have a job unless you have a contract! Ace is moving forward with a solo career. Should KISS decide to do anything and want him included, they have to cut a new deal with him. This is not the first time this has happened, and probably won't be the last. For now KISS is OVER. If Gene and Paul do more, they will then approach Ace. [Post Your Comments]

"Carnival Of Souls", the first KISS album to end up being called what the fans had decided to call it, was the most divisive album since the Music From "The Elder" fiasco of 1981. Fans either loved it, or hated it with such vengeance that internet news groups exploded into violent arguments. Sales figures would seem to indicate that the band attempted to modernize their sound rather too late in terms of the market that had been made popular with the likes of Soundgarden. However, it was a brave band that was willing to tackle a new sound and follow a path of natural development from "Revenge" in 1992. "Carnival Of Souls" is, if anything, the album where Bruce Kulick was finally allowed to shine, not only as a guitarist, a role in which he'd been shining since 1985, but as a song-writer and singer with his debut lead vocal on "I Walk Alone". But both Gene and Paul shone with some of their most exquisite material in many years, at least this time without the Spinal Tap lyrics..." [Learn Your KISSTORY Lesson!] [Post Your Comments]

Gene's Upcoming Book Projects & KISS Tour News
From: Metal Edge Online
In addition to the biography he's working on for Crown Books, Gene Simmons plans to write a book about success in show business and has been in negotiations for a series of KISS books including a Halloween pop-up book. Additionally, photographer Waring Abbott is working on a book that wil feature his photos and stories from Simmons and Paul Stanley. Meanwhile, Simmons has been asked to be a presenter at the Miss Nude USA pageant at the Ponderosa Sun Club, a nudist colony in Illinois, on August 18 and 19. As for the Farewell Tour, we hear that it may not hit Europe after all, though a multiple night last stand is still being talked about for New York's Madison Square Garden, possibly around New Year's. There's a good chance Peter Criss will play these shows. [Post Your Comments]

KISS Guitar Tabs
The #1 source for KISS Guitar and Bass tabs on the internet! A great resource for those KISS fans that can wield an ax!

KISS Album Focus
Exploring the history of the band through each album release. You'll be able to find out the logic behind the releases, what was going on in the band during the recording of albums, what the band was up to in the period leading up to studio time, and lots more information which should be of interest to the diehard fan!

Sound Off KISS Army
KISS ASYLUM wanted to open the door to other writers out there and give them a place where they can voice their opinions about KISS. We bet there are more than a few of you who have at least one KISS related topic burning in you that you'd love to write a one time piece about. Well, KISS ASYLUM is happy to bring to you a forum in which to do so in our new feature "SOUND OFF!" KISS ARMY.

KISS Thought Vault
The "Summertime Memories" Kiss Thought Vault finds Ron Albanese waxing nostalgic over summers past, by way of release dates and pinball. A certain starry-eyed little girl also secures her place in Vault history. Also mentioned: The Harlem Globetrotters.

KISS Video Spotlight
What I have in store for you is a real treat. What you are about to read is an interview I recently completed with WNEW DJ (and fellow NJ resident) Ed Trunk.
