Gerri Miller interviews Gene Simmons
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
Spent a couple hours at Gene Simmons' place tonight, and heard some demos of new songs he's working on. They're in very rough form and have no lyrics but they sound promising--one had a really nasty bass groove and the other was a kickass rocker.
He was on the phone when I got there, with the video from his birthday party on. I watched that for a while and looked at some of the new KISS merch he had around--a great throw blanket, baseball, slipper that looks like his dragon boot, watches, and the Punisher Amp that Ampeg is making to his specs--it will be premiered at the NAMM show this January.
We talked about everything from COS to the new record with Ace and peter and other KISS projects (movie, conventions, next tour, website--all are in the works).
On a sad note, Gene's two dogs were killed by coyotes a week ago. He plans to get others eventually. I'll be talking to Paul Stanley in the morning.

Sony Signatures at Magic Show
From: PowerGrfx@aol.com
I attended the MAGIC show in Las Vegas this past Tuesday and Wednesday. The MAGIC show is a convention held twice a year for the fashion industry. While there, I was presently surprised when I came across the Sony Signatures booth which had many soon to be released KISS items on display. Of those items, there were latex masks (Paul's was missing), two large bottles of KISS wine, Rock And Roll Over golf club covers, new stickers, the new dolls, Psycho Circus #1 comic book, new jigsaw puzzles (Love gun, and Distroyer), a KISS baseball, and a few more items that slip my mind at the moment. I was told that these items will be sold at all Spencer Gift stores in a there very own KISS section of the store. I was also told that there will be a new order form for these items included inside the COS album when it is released this October. Out of all the items, I would have to say that the latex masks were pretty damn good. They were very nicely detailed and seemed of high quality. I was told that they will retail at $40. ea.

KISS on UK Channel 5 8/27/97
From Julian Baldry
Channel 5 in the UK is showing The Best of the Jack Docherty Show tonight (27/8). Listed as part of the show is a re-run of the Kiss interview they did just prior to the Finsbury Park 'End of the World' show. This interview includes the infamous question to Peter as to why all the other guys had 'cool' makeup and he ended up looking like a pussy cat! The show starts at 10.30pm.

KISS CD Release Dates
From: Bob Rodrick
According to ICE CD Newsletter (the CD news authority), "Double Platinum" and ALL FOUR solo albums (yes, Peter's too!) have been pushed back a week to September 16. However, here's something interesting. "Dynasty," "Unmasked," "The Elder," and "Creatures of the Night" will be released on October 7, while "Carnival of Souls" will be out the following week on October 14. I guess Polygram and Kiss don't want the "new" album to be lost in the shuffle with the remasters. Thought I'd pass it along.

KISS Freaks Special Delivery!
Today I received the first issue of KISS Freask Special Delivery. I just wanted to comment what a great job my friend Steve of KISS Freaks did on this issue. It is a great way for OFFLINE fans to get KISS news. And it is also great for ONLINE fans as they now have a "hard copy" of some of the recent KISS news for them to save for their collections.
The first issue is packed with stuff that includes a reprint of The KISS Asylum's Interview with Loretta Carravello, bootleg reviews, a photo from Roch Vallancourt's Celebrities in KISS Makeup, an interview with Jheni Clason from the KAOL Tribute CD project, and of course the recent news.
You really can't beat this great newsletter. It is 10 issues for $15 a year. That is a lot of news for a VERY low cost. I highly recommend it! Click the graphic to the right to check out more on this great KISS newsletter!

Happy Birthday Gene Simmons!
Today is Gene Simmons Birthday. I believe he turns 48 today.

Gene Simmons Birthday party
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
Tonight (8-24) was Gene Simmons' birthday party, held at the same bowling alley he's held similar parties in the past. Paul Stanley was the only current KISS member there (with wife Pam), though Bruce Kulick was there with new bandmates John Corabi, Brent Fitz, and James Hunting-- I got the first full band photo. STILL no name for the band, though.
Others in attendance included Tommy Thayer, Jaime St. James (who've been writing together again), Brent Woods, and 3/4 of Hair of the Dog (who plan to go out again with Ratt).
The custom cake was great--decorated with Gene's (in makeup) face and an enormous tongue curving around the face of Shannon Tweed (the party also celebrated their 13 year non-marriage).
A 7 piece swing band played on a stage set up on the lanes in one corner of the bowling alley, and their repertoire included a big band version of "Rock and Roll All Nite"--hysterical! I'll be talking to Gene, Paul, and Bruce about COS this week.

Second Series of Action Figures
From: KISS otaku
I contacted McFarlane Toys regarding Todd's comments about 12" figures. Here is what they told me:
"I'm not sure about the 12 versions of the KISS figures. I do know that we are planning a second series for 1998, but right now that is about all that I can confirm."

Report from the Rock, Toy & Horror Expo
From: Strom78@aol.com
I just got in from the expo here in New Jersey. I thought I'd post what went down today. There's nothing really big to report, but it was a fun day nontheless.
Bruce Kulick's appearance brought out several KISS dealers to the expo which was nice. I'd say about 1/4 of the expo was like a KISS expo. The people from Go Figure magazine were there promoting their magazine and selling the first issue with the four different KISS covers. They had a good deal too: they sold the set of 4 for $15. The cover price is $5.95 per issue.

Early in the afternoon, Bruce, Blackie Lawless from WASP, and Van Williams came out for a question and answer session. Fans lined up at the mic to ask questions. To my surprise, most of the questions went to Blackie. I thought Bruce would get asked the most, but there were a lot of WASP fans at this show. A fan asked Bruce if Eric Carr was fired from KISS before he died. Bruce said that he wasn't really involved with the business end of things which that entailed, so he didn't know for sure what happened. He did say, though, that things weren't handled the best they could have been with Eric. He said stuff about wishing things went smoother in regards to the way things were handled regarding Eric's sickness. About COS, Bruce said he believed that yes, he and Eric Singer would be taking Gene and Paul's offer to get involved with them promoting the album. Bruce was very cordial and funny during the Q & A.

Next, Bruce played a little guitar at the guitar booth that was set up. I didn't catch this as the line for autographs was huge at this point and I wanted to get on line. I could hear him playing a bit of "She" from the other side of the venue.

After a very long wait, I finally got up to get Bruce's autograph. I had him sign my Revenge album cover which I also had Eric sign last April. I told him I can't wait to hear a mint sounding copy of COS and he said something like yeah, you will really notice the difference and hear how it's supposed to sound. Bruce was very friendly and enthusiastic to the fans getting his auto. Bruce didn't charge for his autograph (only he and Elvira didn't charge I heard), but most of the personalities there did. The word going around was that Robert Englund (of Freddie Krueger fame) was charging $20 if you didn't buy something from his table to have signed!

Most of the new KISS merchandise was available at the expo: ties, puzzles, preview sets, makeup kits, European tourbooks, etc. Of course, the new KISS figures were there too. They were all over the place. Most dealers had them priced at $60 a set, some for $75. I didn't see any of the solo album cover figures there. One guy had the new masks. They look better in person than they do in the photos I've seen. The Paul one still wasn't there. They had these rectangular cards attached to each mask that had the KISS logo and each member's autograph. I heard that Spencer's Gifts removes these cool looking cards before they put them out to sell.

Newsbits from "Return of the Comet" recording sessions
From: Douglas Snazel
Hey gang, I have lots of news for you sit back and soak this all in... We just finished some recording sessions this week for RETURN OF THE COMET. The first thing I want to say is Eric Singer, Bruce Kulick and Karl Cochran are COMPLETE professionals. They were so impressive and their excution was absolutely flawless and I'd like to publically thank them for all their hard work this past weekend. They really came in and gave 100% to the fans to make this a great tribute record! They really took the time, effort and hard work to make sure their trakcs sounded great and they are both very proud and honored to be apart of SHOCK RECORDS.

We recorded the whole session at Juan Croucier's studio in southern LA! Some of you may know Juan as the original bass player for the 80's band RATT! It was a beautiful house with a gorgeous view and Juan pulled in 12 hour days for us to make sure ther tracks came out right! But enough about the tribute album here's some of the latest news...

1. Ace is recording demos of some of his new songs very soon and wants to continue writing more! Karl Cochran has been invited by Ace to join him and Richie in writing some more new material! Karl confirmed some of the new material he would write would be considered to make it to the KISS album. The plan of attack with the new KISS album is this:
Write LOTS AND LOTS of songs from all members then pick and choose the ten best of the bunch to make the greatest KISS record ever.

2. SISTERS according to Karl Cochran will be one of the songs Ace will offer to KISS as one of the tracks on the album. It does NOT mean however SISTERS will be selected.

3. Bruce had no comment as to whether a reunion KISS track would appear on COS.

4. COS was much more of a Bruce Kulick project than we are often lead to believe. COS is a very personal project for Bruce and he takes great pride in it for a lot of reasons. Bruce is also however much more "future" oriented now and will concentrate more on his new band, than he will promoting COS.

5. One name Bruce may be considering for his new band is THE XMEN, where "X" means ex-members of Motley Crue, KISS, Street Heart and the David Lee Roth band. But they really won't decide on a name for a while. But fans are going to love Bruce's new album, it will be killer!

6. Brent Fitz, Bruce's new drummer is the bass player from the Canadian band called Street Heart which interestingly enough wrote the song "Dancin with Danger" on the Frehley's Comet SECOND SIGHTING album.

7. Karl Cochran, Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer will all appear together at a upcoming convention in RHODE ISLAND. They will form one all star band and probably play both HATE and DOMINO in their set list.

8. A new version of Bruce's instrumental for his guitar clinics at conventions was recorded at the RETURN OF THE COMET sessions. He asked us if he could record a mix of this song for his convention appearances and we agreed! That new song you hear was recorded at our sessions! I am very proud of that. Bruce also co-produced his instrumental track on RETURN OF THE COMET and will be receving co-production credits. Bruce is very talented with a mixing and sound board and produced some awesome effects. Bruce could easily self produce his own album.

9. Bruce has NOT yet signed a record deal but is very close. Bruce will also likely record in October and release his CD in February. His new band will be a serious departure from his KISS roots. Bruce will wants to spread his wings...and seems very dedicated to his projects.

10. Both Bruce and Eric seemed a little bitter at times as to their treatment in the band, but they love their fans and say KISS fans are the best in the world.

11. Both Bruce and Eric will become more active on the INTERNET in the near future and try to narrow the bridge between themselves and the fans.

12. We talked to Eric Singer about the possibility of him releasing a solo album with special guest star appearances. Karl Cochran may help write material for it. The formation of this idea is in the very early stages and it may not happen, but we tried to plant a seed in Eric's head to think about it. Eric has a great voice and knows a lot of musicians in LA to really make a great record.

13. Eric's house is very nice, with a big pool and several cool pinball machines! Bruce, Eric and Karl Cochran hung out on Monday at Eric's place, where we disucssed the future of KISS and the love and devotion you fans have to all members past and present.

14. We will soon have details coming on a very special all star convention coming down the line. You will NOT believe what's in store for this one!

15. LA GUNSS just completed their version of COLD GIN for RETURN OF THE COMET on Monday. The song featured their new singer who sounds exactly like David Lee Roth! The LA GUNNS version of COLD GIN sounds like a hybrid of Ace, Van Halen and Led Zeppelin, its very cool and I can't wait for you all to hear it...

PHOTOS!!
All kinds of photos of Bruce Kulick and the LA GUNNS recording sessions will be made available to fans out on the world wide web.

Ace Update
From: jez13666@aol.com
Hello all! I just got off the phone with Ace & told me to tell you a few things: Ace is working to get his own web site up & running within the next couple of weeks. It'll be his first time online & he's very excited about it! There will be lots of great things to download - animations, never-before seen pics, QuickTime movies, and a special download of the morphing faces shown at the concerts. He even is considering trying to go online for an hour each weedk to answer questions from the fans directly! The possibilities are endless, and he promises it will be worth the wait! But he stresses that he has never been online before this, so any one running around saying they're Ace have been lying.

Gordon's posting the bankruptcy hearings: Ace is NOT going to that hearing - he doesn't have to show up, so do NOT listen to Gordon about it being a good way to meet Ace.

He said that he has taken back the fan club & can't wait to get into it again! It will be better than ever!! He didn't mention hurting his hand, so I assume that rumor is just that. I forgot to ask, though. He can't wait to get online & start surfing the net! He said to say hi to all the fans & he hopes to be chatting with you all real soon!!

Note from David Snowden regarding Rock Soldiers fanzine
From: JETTFC
There isn't a break in the relationship between Ace and myself. Ace needed some assistance while he was on tour with KISS with the Rock Soldiers fan club. I stepped in and helped him out by putting out 1 issue of the fan club newsletter. I also handled all the official Rock Soldiers merchandise. As I've stressed from the beginning, we were taking it one day at a time.

Now that the KISS tour is over, I have spoken to Ace about the fan club. He has some free time and would like to do the fan club himself. So all the records and merchandise has been sent back to him.

I still have and do carry all the official KISS merchandise. A new catalog was sent out on Saturday with a new color cover. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments anyone may have about it.

But there is no break in my relationship with Ace. Again, I was just trying to help the guy out and now that he's back on his feet again, he wants to be active in his fan club.

I'll be seeing Gene and Paul Sunday at Gene's birthday party (Bruce will be in NJ at the Rock & Horror Expo)."

KISS Card News from Cornerstone
From: LREK@aol.com
KISS APPROVALS ... AT LAST!
Cornerstone Communications announced this afternoon that it had finally received approvals for KISS SERIES ONE from the band and their licensing agent, Sony Signatures. Managing Director Walter Rowan said, "While production will begin immediately, it is still too early to announce a definite ship date. We will speed things along as much as we can without sacrificing quality."

Cornerstone's limited 9-card KISS PEVIEW SET has partially shipped, although the bulk of the order is trapped by the UPS strike in a warehouse outside of Phoenix. "As soon the cards reach us, we will resume shipping," Rowan promised. "We want to thank everybody for their patience during this difficult time."

KISS Action Figure newsbit
From: Jerry
A friend of mine in Phoenix phoned me this past weekend to tell me that he met Todd McFarlane Tuesday August 12th at an autograph session. I am unsure if it was a comic show or just a stop at a comic shop. Anyway, my friend Kevin waited in line for 2 hours before getting to meet the man. He had Todd sign a couple of things and talked with him for a minute. Kevin thanked Todd for doing the KISS Action Figures and Todd asked if he had seen them. My friend admitted that he was unable to locate them and Todd told him to be patient. Todd said that they were unprepared for the extremely high demand and are doing their best to meet it. Repackaging without the letter stands is one way to meet the high demand. He said that it's actually worse than that whole "Tickle Me Elmo" fiasco during the holidays and he seemed thankful that there was not a lot of media attention on the shortage. Kevin asked an interesting question before leaving:
"Are there any plans to do 12" versions of the KISS figures?"
Todd's reply was:
"They are already in the works"

KISS Remasters in Canada
From: adowdall@netcom.ca
The Kiss Remasters in Canada have always been 1 week behind scheduled release dates in the U.S. However, the second set of remasters came out in Canada yesterday, and to my surprise there was no tatoos in the Alive 2 Disc set, and they didn't use the clear case as in the US release. I tried to call Polygram to find out why there wasn't any, but I couldn't in touch with anyone. If anyone knows the reason behind this let me know. So to all other KISS fans Canada, you should do what I did, and get your Remasters from the States.

Kiss Gets Sued... Again
From: allstar news via Jeff Garland
Kiss is being sued again, this time by a small label that had signed drummer Peter Criss to a solo contract. Kiss -- as a business entitity, along with Gene Simmons, and Paul Stanley -- are being sued by Tony Nicole Tony (TNT) Records for an unspecified amount in damages because TNT claims that Simmons and Stanley persuaded Criss, the original drummer of Kiss, to rejoin the band, thereby causing him to breach his contract with TNT and causing the label to lose money.
The suit, which was filed on Friday (Aug. 15) in Los Angeles Superior Court, states that Criss had entered into an agreement in November 1993 with TNT to produce a minimum of 10 master recordings, and that TNT would have three options to renew and extend the term of that agreement. In June 1995, TNT exercised their option for Criss to record another album. However, in October of that year, Simmons and Stanley met with Criss to discuss a possible reunion, and according to the suit, "negligently talked to and negligently influenced" Criss to rejoin the band, causing Criss to intentionally breach his contract. Criss informed TNT shortly thereafter that he was indeed rejoining Kiss and wouldn't record another album with TNT. -Tina Johnson (allstar news)

KISS Carnival on Track
From: MTV Online
August 14 [10:00 EDT] -- It appears the new old Kiss album (or is that the old new Kiss album?) will be released as planned Oct. 14.
The project was rumored to have hit a few bumps, but Mercury says it's right on schedule. "Carnival of Souls" was recorded with former Kiss members Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer just prior to the current reunion of the original band, but the album was never released.
The record won't be much of a surprise for Kiss fans -- it's been widely available as a bootleg for the last year and a half. Metal Edge editor Gerri Miller reports that the cover art is being reworked and adds that the recording is far superior to the current versions available.
Miller, who recently interviewed Kiss's Gene Simmons, also says that contrary to a phony AP Wire story circulating on the web, the band hasn't settled with former member Vinnie Vincent. As we reported last month, Vincent is suing Kiss (he names Stanley Eisen and Gene Klein as individuals, also Kissstory Ltd., The Kiss Company, Polygram and the Horipro Entertainment Group) for millions in (allegedly) owed royalties and other payments. He's also looking for a retraction of all those nasty things he says his former bandmates have said about him.
In other Kiss news, the Kiss shelves are already crammed with Kiss reissues, Kiss Halloween masks, Kiss comics and even Kiss action figure toys, but now you can add two new Kiss books to the list -- just don't get them mixed up. The credible Chris Lendt, the band's former business manager, is on a book tour pushing "Kiss and Sell." And currently being shipped to stores is a book called "Kiss and Tell," written by a disgruntled ex-business partner of Ace Frehley. It shows.

(KA Note: Check the Carnival of Souls news page in the "What's Hot" section for song credits. "Outromental" is included on the tape as the end of "I Walk Alone.")

KISS -- Metal Edge Magazine
KISS is in the new Metal Edge magazine (November issue.) There is an interview with them with some cool info. Check below for bits from it. The KISS's "Carnival of Souls" studio album will be reviewed in the "Playback" section of Metal Edge in the "Decemeber" issue out next month. Also Gerri Miller told me that in the "January" isssue Metal Edge will interview KISS along with Bruce and Eric in regards to the Carnival of Souls album.

KISS Metal Edge interview newsbits
From:Trevor McCoy
KISS said they read several scripts for the Action League Now! short before picking the "Rock-a-Big Baby" one.
The short might be included on a home video release in the future. "As for other KISS movies, live action and animated KISS films are being developed, but no details yet."
"Paul Stanley found fault with it [Kiss And Sell], citing inaccuracies and an "alternate reality" espoused by the author."
"Though it never had an official title, the album was dubbed Carnival Of Souls by fans - it came from a song Gene wrote that never make it to the record - it will most likely retain that title, and the flaming head artwork intended for it from the beginning."
"He [Paul] hopes Bruce and Eric will want to join them in promoting the album. 'They're as much a part of the record as we are. It's not gonna matter one way or the other but we're trying to be gentlemanly about it because to shut them out of a record that they have every bit as much to do with as we do would be unethical and not a nice thing to do. It's their call.'"
It's says they (original 4) are separately writing for the new studio album they'll start recording in the fall. Says it may sound Destroyer era. They are avoiding outside collaborators to see what they come up with by themselves first but may collaborate later.
"If all goes according to plan, the record will be out in the early spring, followed by a new world tour, with 'a brand new show, everything.' Whether that will mean new outfits is open to question. Paul doesn't believe KISS should stray from the present look, and all Gene will say is, 'We have a lot of ideas.' Also a possibility is a new convetnion tour, which Ace and Peter were not a part of the last time around, and rumor has it Eric and Bruce might participate as well. 'No rules, everything's completely open,' says Gene, and Paul concurs: 'Anything's possible.'"

From: Robert
In the current Rock Album Chart at www.cdnow.com (one of the biggest online music stores), three of the KISS remasters have entered the Top 20. 'Alive!' is at number 9, 'KISS' at number 17 and 'Dressed To Kill' at number 20.

KISS Guitarist Takes Charge
From: Wall of Sound
KISS Guitarist Takes Charge -- Wednesday, August 13, 1997
"Ace Frehley is taking charge of his life and his music. After declaring bankruptcy two years ago, the musician put all of his songwriting royalties in trust, with the hopes of buying them back later. Last year, of course, the KISS tour raked in over $40 million, raising the bank-account levels of Frehley and fellow KISS members Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Paul Stanley. It will cost Ace a mere $140,000 to get the rights to his songs back--but here's the kicker. Though he's in the process of buying the songs, he doesn't have an exclusive right to buy them. Legally, anyone can pick up the songs--all they have to do is come up with enough cash. So, if you feel like starting a biddingwar with KISS, just get in touch with the trustees, the New Haven law firm of Coan, Lewendon, Royston, Deming & Gulliver. "

KISS Remasters Info
From: Robert Conte (StudioChikara)
Thank you for the compliments. RARO does not have a sticker; though it was my intention to have one in there, the record company decided not to go for it. Love Gun's perforated cardboard gun wouldn't have worked properly if it, the "BANG" paper and instructions were reduced to proportionate CD size; the effect was used as artwork to make the gun and "BANG" as large as possible. Double Platinum does come with an award and the solo records, Dynasty and Unmasked come with fold-out posters.
I know that some of you may be disappointed by a few of the inserts not appearing exactly as they did in LP format, but we had to make some compromises.

KISS Remasters -- Australia
From: Greg Davies
Australian releases of the remasters go on sale on 1ST SEPTEMBER. They will be selling for A$19.95. Double CDs will probably be A$30 if they cost more. The first album, HTH, Dressed To Kill, Alive!, Destroyer, RAROver, Love Gun and AliveII will all be released. As for the others up to Creatures, they will probably appear later in the year.

"I Love It Loud" in movie CopLand
From: Stagger
I just saw Sly Stallone's new movie, "Copland," and in one scene Sheriff Freddy, (Stallone), makes a trip to a house to have the resident supposedly turn down the volume of the stereo (there's more going on in the flick). But anyway, the song playing is "I LOVE IT LOUD." Pretty cool to hear KISS in yet another film!!!

Return of the Comet! -- Ace Frehley Tribute CD
From: Doug Snazel of AceFrehley.com
My wife just called to say John Regan has snet me a tape of the first rough mixes of the Frehley's Comet reunion this week. John, Richie, Budgie and Arthur Stead all re-recorded ANIMAL and BACK ON THE STREETS two Frehley's Comet tracks NEVER before released except on bootleg demo. Anyway, the tracks are done except for the final mixing and mastering. I am very exicted about it and I am very proud to be able to bring these tracks to you on CD in a few months. Finally we get to hear some of these songs for REAL on a fully produced CD rather than crappy demo tapes! It's a very happy day for us Frehley's Comet fans...
Also I am currently in negotiation to have 2 not 1 unreleased LIVE Ace Frehley tracks on RETURN OF THE COMET. I cannot guarantee we will get them, but I am trying very hard to get them...so so far RETURN FO THE COMET will have...

** 2 UNRELESAED Frehley's Comet demos re-recorded and mastered in the studio by the original members of Frehley's Comet
** 2 UNRELEASED LIVE Ace Frehley tracks
** An UNRELEASED BONUS BRUCE KULICK track
** Ex-Kiss drummer, ERIC SINGER along with KARL COCHRAN (ex- Ace Frehley band member) singing the famous STRANGE WAYS.
Plus, many more other cool surprises including hopefully an appearance of TOD HOWARTH with another famoous KISS related band, and other big names...
The CD is scheduled for release on January 15th.

Frehley's Comet records songs
From: Doug Snazel of AceFrehley.com
Hey the historic reunion of the original Frehley's Comet members, Richie, Regan and Arthur Stead is taking place today!
They are recording as I write this, and they are recording material from the 84/85 sessions that was never released!
They have asked that no photographers show up, as they feel this will impede their concentration and slow down their tight schedules, but I will try and get you snap shots and brief sound clips for tomorrow'ssessions. But they are said to be in great spirits and the new songssound GREAT!!
Also Karl Cochran and Richie are both set to out on tour next month, when I aksed them who they were touring with they told me it was a secret...and couldn't say at this time...well that got me thinking...but I'll let you know the story as soon as I get it.

KISS Cards -- Preview set: Description
From: AceMan68@aol.com
Just got my KISS Preview sets from David Snowden. They are sealed in plastic wrap type material. I got two sets, so I opened one and kept the other sealed. This set is very cool. Figured I'd give a description of the set for anyone who cares, or anyone who has a set by wants to keep it sealed.
There are 9 cards in the "Preview" set plus a header card. This set of cards is not the same thing as the "Promo" set (like the card that came with "The KISS Years.") So, there is a 9 card "Promo" set AND a 9 card "Preview" set that is completely different.
- Header Card: Has KISS logo and says "Limited Edition Preview Set." Then it has a number out of 15,000. I have 11,405 and 11,406.
The actual cards in the set are numbered 1-9. On the front of each card is a small foil (hologram looking) stamp that is the KISS logo in the middle of the saw blade. Preview card 1 - Recent picture of Ace in costume and makeup. Shot from the waist up.
Preview card 2 - Is a picture of the "Greatest KISS" cover...... :-( zzzzzzzzz......, but still a cool preview of what they will do later.......have a card for each album.
Preview card 3 - Recent photo of Gene with the barbed-wire around him (I think from the tourbook or Metal Edge.)
Preview card 4 - Very Cool! Photo from 1973 of Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter jamming in the loft. Don't think I have ever seen this exact photo before.
Preview card 5 - Another Cool One! Love Gun stage shot - Gene and Paul on the sides.....Ace leaning back on his knees in front of Peter's drum kit. Pretty much like during the "Black Diamond" solo.
Preview card 6 - Stage shot photo from 1996-97 tour - Gene, Ace and Paul at the front of the stage.....looks like "Shout It Out Loud" intro.
Preview card 7 - Recent Paul photo......I think from the tourbook or Metal Edge mag tour mag.....Looks like he is praying.
Preview card 8 - Very Cool! This is a photo of Paul, Peter, Gene and Ace in the "ALIVE!" costumes. It's an outside photo of them on top of a black car. There are similar photos, probably from this shoot, in KISStory.
Preview card 9 - Recent photo of Peter form either the tourbook or Metal Edge.
Well, that's all of them. I can't wait to see the 90 card Series 1 set. I think the preview set is well worth the $8, considering that it is numbered and limited to 15,000. The photos are great and I think the set is sure to go up in value in the future. Get them while you can.

Gene and Paul in Dallas -- Guest DJs
From: PJacobs32@aol.com
Gene and Paul were guest DJ's on KEGL 97.1 in Dallas this morning from 6-9. It was pretty cool, although they didn't say anything we didn't already know. They weren't in promotion/sell mode like you would think. They didn't promote anything unless they were asked about it. Gene said Carnival of Souls is coming out Oct. 14th. The band is currently thinking of ideas for songs and will enter the studio to begin recording the new album in a month or two. Paul said that people were having a hard time finding the Action Figures because they are not reaching the shelves because people have them on hold/reserve and the UPS strike is not helping stores get in new shipments. The box set will have a lot of demos like Paul singing God of Thunder, but it won't be out for a while. It was funny listening to Paul and Gene do traffic and weather reports. Paul was his usual self, but Gene seemed out of it. I went to the radio station and got their autographs. Gene looked really tired.

Give credit where credit is due...
From: Dan Hughes
"Hey dudes,
Big fan of Kiss and your Kiss Asylum Web site. Glad to see that my company's Web site, Webintosh, had some influence in your new look. ;)"

( John's note: hey, it's a combo C|Net / Webintosh style mix, but Dan implemented the right column quite well and it needed no improvement! Check out his website, Mac fans, it rocks! )

KISS on KEGL this morning!
From: Paul Jacobs
"Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will be guest DJ's on Thursday morning from 6:00 - 9:00 am CST for radio station KEGL 97.1 in Dallas, TX. The radio spots promoting this have been running all week and the DJ's have been talking about it. The radio station said that Gene and Paul will be in Dallas and not doing it over the phone. The radio station did not give a reason for the on-air appearance, but this is the same radio station that kicked Howard Stern off the air a couple of weeks ago so this is probably a way to help to increase their morning ratings now that Stern is off the air. I will have a full report Thursday or Friday."

New KISS Commercial
From: BCR018@aol.com
"Has anyone seen the new commercial against drugs by KISS? Each of the four have something to say, and they morph into each other. It's cool!!! I happened to see it run during SportsCenter?"

KISS sighting at Proctor & Gamble
From: Frank Mezler
"OK, I dont know if this counts or not - but it was on the morning Today show. Apparently Proctor and Gamble run some kind of contest for their employees which is karoke but with the words switched to reflect their product. Four guys were on with KISS make-up and singing Dr. Dove! Unfortunately they didnt win - the team dressed in Madonna wigs and breast cones singing their Dove song to the Vogue theme won the contest." ( John's note: I saw a thing on this on Headline News, I think it was for soap-related songs. Very cool. )

KISS references on RuPaul Show
From: klt4725@aol.com
"If you've ever watched the RuPaul Show you know she starts out ever show singing a song. Well, today she sang "I Was Made For Loving You"!!!! It was a more "dancing" version- but a lot cooler than it may sound. There actually been a lot of KISS references. Like Alice Cooper mentioned he was from Detroit and Ru shreiked "Detroit Rock City?!" and when the singer of the Bangles was on Ru asked if they were 'crazy on the road and would trash hotel rooms like KISS would'."

Two New Big Balls
From: ALIVE!
"I went to Spencers the other day and picked up two new KISS Christmas ornament balls. They are the same size and shape as the old Destroyer one but one has the Rock and Roll Over album cover on one and the other has the Alive Worldwide 96/97 logo, just like the cover of the tourbook."

Remasters Phase II Available Now
At my local bitchin' music store, Soundwaves, they already have the second KISS remasters set: Destroyer, RARO, Love Gun, and Alive II, so check your local outlets for the same. Those four are normally scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday.

Wicked Lester songs
From: Dean Klotz
"I am a long time visitor to your site. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have added FULL length songs from a Wicked Lester bootleg that I happened onto KISS and the Child of Thunder. I have too little space to run a massive project like ROTH, but I will rotate the songs about once a week until the whole album is finished. I hope everyone will enjoy them! I have also included a few more pics from concerts I have been to, with more on the way."

Slaughter & Vinnie Vincent
From: Brian Smith
"I won backstage passes from a radio station to the Alice Cooper concert last night, with Slaughter, Warrant and Dokken. After Slaughter played, my friend and I went to meet Dana Strum and Mark Slaughter. I asked Dana for his honest opinion of Vinnie Vincent. He said "He is an asshole!" Mark said that "Vinnie is his own way." He also said he was very talented, trying not to be as harsh as Dana. Mark also confirmed what Gene Simmons said that Vinnie was fired by his record label and Slaughter was formed by the label.

"Also Slaughter's drummer said that Peter Criss was one of his influences.
Sidenote: Kiss T-Shirts dominated the rock and roll garb at the concert."

"KISS Psycho Circus" Available Now
From: eskywalker@effingham.net
"Wanted to write to let you know that the first issue of KISS PSYCHO CIRCUS is out and it is wild! I just got my copy from the comic shop here in my town and it was totally different than what I thought it was going to be. It is a comic based on not the band but what the band is about. The circus travels from town to town and it calls different people to it for different things. It is a circus of the damned. Everyone who works for this circus has been comdemned for one thing or another. This is why it calls people to it. People who have not a choice but are damned. Todd McFarlane has done an incredible job on the comic and I hope to see it run along time. Todd really knows his comics and the way they should be written and drawn. Kiss has picked the right man to make both the comic and the new Kiss Figures. Spawn, another of Todd's creations, is the number one comic on the market and it does not look to slow down anytime soon, what with the new Spawn movie and all the merchandise. Good work Todd and once again Kiss has shown they know who to go with and how they have a real head for merchandising."

"COS" Petition & French speaking Kiss fans
From: KISS Vault Butler
"Well, I haven't even sent the petition off yet and it looks like were going to get COS!! BUT, I have not yet forgotten about the petition. I mean, what if PolyGram change minds AGAIN?! Probably not. But anyway, thanx to all who signed the petition. Your comments were well pointed out and I got over 120 signers in the last five days! It's great to see people taking the release of this album!

"So, please stop signing, and once again, thank you all who signed it.

"I run a site called the Kiss Vault, and I am looking for a French translator to translate my site into French (duh!) I have already gotten somebody for my Spanish translation, and now there is only one language left to go. If you are willing to translate my site, I ask only that you are a fluent speaker, or native speaker, and that you are willing to do it for no profit. The Kissnation is a union, we shouldn't make profit off of things like this. I'm sure there are many out there, and if there are, please come forth and let me know. I am doing this for all the fans out there who cannot speak English, which reminds me, you must speak fluent English too, so we can communicate through e-mail.

"With those simple requirements, that sholdn't be too hard. Remember, no beginners, only ones who know the language very well. I know VERY little, not even enough to say four sentences.

"Thanx! Remecier vous! :)
Au revoir! :)"

Additional "COS" Confirmation
From: Jeremy Wayne
"I do not know if you want to post this on your page, but in case you would like to...I just talked to the gal in Marketing for Mercury/Polygram and she confirmed that the "Carnival Of Souls" album will be released on October 14. However, i asked is that definite, and she said, "It could change." But from the sounds of it, we will see "COS" in a couple of months."

KISS with Garth at Central Park
From: multiple contributors
Garth has stated some very believable hints that KISS would appear at his Central Park concert tonight. "Many influential people" are suppossed to be there. (post-update: Don McLean, not KISS was there)

Tell them MRKISSACE sent you, and that you want it back on the air!!! Keep the Heavy Metal Alive on MTV!!!!"

Action Figure errors (good ones!)
From: Tyler Porter
"One of my friends recently grabbed a set of the action figures at a local Wal-Mart. He thought he had gotten all four members, but when he got home he realized he hadn't. One package contained a cardboard backing with Ace's picture on it, but there was one thing wrong with it: there was a doll of Paul inside! It looks really bizarre, cause all the packaging says it is an Ace doll, except Paul is the one on the inside. I told my friend "Don't you dare open that," and he agreed. Just thought I'd alert people to this, cause there might be more out there."

KISS Merchandise at Spencer's
From: KISS Hell
On Tuesday Spencers got shipments of the INCREDILE 3-D FULL MAKE UP custom official new wall hangings of each member. Each plaque has the members face mounted on a Cold Cast Bronze which are hand finished, #-ed & signed. They also all have small silver plates with the KISS logo, band members name & # of your piece. The prices are $230 each-but definitely well worth it if you ask me. There will be 15,000 made. These are a real work of art & have to be seen to be believed! It's like KISS' heads (full size) mounted on your wall-too cool. Also out now is KISS WALL PAPER-which has the KISS logo with photos inside the letters-the wallpaper is about $17 a pack-very cool stuff.
The KISS wall hanging heads all come with a certificate of authenticity which are numbered & signed by the artists. There is a certificate for each members plaque. The first shipments in the 1-200's are in stores now but selling out fast.
