"The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens is featuring their first annual Scarecrow Trail. The trail features sixteen different scarecrows from a bride and groom to KISS singer GENE SIMMONS. You can catch the Scarecrow Trail at the gardens up until Halloween."

From: KISSAsylum.com

On the ABC show "According to Jim"'s Halloween special a couple nights ago (the sitcom with Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith) Jim dressed up as Gene and his brother in law as Paul. A little "Paul Bashing" took place as well. Jim said he was gonna be Gene and "Spit Blood and Breathe Fire". The brother in law said "I'll be Paul... What do I do?". Jim said "Stuff a sock down your pants and be happy your the 2nd most popular guy in the band."

KISS Cover Band Guitarist Leaves To Start VINNIE VINCENT Invasion Tribute Band
From: TheOnion.com

This week's edition of the Onion featured the following parody article that we found particularly amusing as the humor was something only a true die-hard KISS fan could appreciate.

AKRON, OH - Citing growing tensions between bandmates, Harvey Shapiro - aka "VeeVee," the guitarist for KISS cover band Destroyer - left the group Monday to create VeeVee's Occupying Force, a VINNIE VINCENT Invasion tribute band. "I felt I had hit a creative ceiling with the cover-band experience and was ready for the challenges of a tribute band," Shapiro said. "VeeVee's Occupying Force will debut Dec. 3 at Rubber City Lanes. We're opening for Second Sighting, my brother's Frehley's Comet cover band." As a part of his new band's act, Shapiro said he is contemplating suing Destroyer for $6 million over damage to his reputation following some badmouthing at the Rock 'N' Bowl.

Paul Sees Raspberries
From: KISSOnline.com

Power pop legends, Raspberries, performed to a SRO show at L.A.'s House Of Blues on Friday, October 21st and in the audience was a familiar face, long-time fan, PAUL STANLEY. Paul had seen the Raspberries back in 1973 for their historic show at New York's Carnegie Hall. From our vantage point, judging by the smile on Paul's face, it looked like he was having a great time.

Paul has also discussed the Raspberries influence on his music. According to an interview I did with him for "Behind The Mask," Paul spoke about borrowing some Raspberries riffs ("Tonight," and "Ecstasy") for "Wouldn't You Like To Know Me," from his 1978 solo album. Paul also came up with the electrifying guitar figure that kickstarts "Deuce," which was inspired by the guitar riff that frames the Raspberries biggest hit, "Go All The Way."

Baltimore KISS Expo Recap
From: George Decampo

The 5th annual Baltimore KISS expo was a huge success with hundreds in attendance. Everyone had a great time from the packed lounge at the KISS karaoke to the expo itself. This was by far the biggest turn-out the KISS army has seen for this annual event. I would like to thank all the vendors, KISS fans and bands who attended this year for helping making it so successful. A special thanks to ERIC SINGER for being one of the best guests we have had so far. Thanks again to everyone and see you next October for the 6th annual Baltimore KISS expo!

I got a commercial from telus that is very heavily KISS influenced. Telus is known for creating rather humourous ads by mixing classic songs with clever images of animals. The current Telus ad features the song "I was made for loving you."

The band members LOOK and ACT like the "real thing" (...well, that's scary...!!) -- especially "GENE SIMMONS" and "PAUL STANLEY" with the cockiness and cheekiness of the real Gene and Paul (lock up your girlfriends!!!).

They played a wide selection of KISS numbers, covering the band's 30-odd year career -- from good old Deuce, and Black Diamond, to Unholy off the 1992 album Revenge.

The dog tag for Staff Sgt. Jerry

the family by KISS rocker Gene

Somber Farewell
From: TheReporter.com

It was a day of mourning in Vacaville Friday for family, friends and comrades of Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Jerry L. Bonifacio, a 28-year-old soldier who died nearly two weeks ago in war-torn Iraq.

Hundreds filed one-by-one into St. Mary's Church behind Bonifacio's flag-draped coffin and amid the lonely skirling of bagpipes.

They heard the young man eulogized as a steadfast friend, with a generous heart and an unbreakable spirit that helped him grow into a "quiet professional" soldier, an infantry squad leader and a patriot.

Rock, shock and sell
From: The Oracle

Within the rock, metal and industrial music genres, a trend has developed over the years. A band will appear that uses horrific stage antics, theatrical props and makeup to the point of actually scaring the audience. These outlandish bands could collectively be called shock rockers.

One of the most popular shock rock bands is KISS. With their platform shoes, leather garb and strange black and white face paint, KISS emerged in the '70s to the dismay of many parents. GENE SIMMONS' lewd actions with his elongated tongue and reported sexual - promiscuity put the band in the bad boy limelight. KISS' powerful rock song "Rock 'N Roll All Night" and its distinct look set it apart from the disco singers of the era.

The popularity of KISS has not died over the years. The band used its shock factor as a media tool and created a devoted fan base called the KISS Army. KISS also has a huge assortment of merchandise, including t-shirts, action figures and even a KISS casket.

KISS On Display at Museum
From: KISSOnline.com

KISS action figures were predominantly displayed at the grand opening of the Action Figure and Toy Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 15th.

The museum's goal is to educate and excite visitors with a comprehensive collection of classic "pop culture" toys, with an emphasis on the social and historic evolution of the action figure. It is the only official action figure museum in the world, paying tribute to the designers, sculptors, and toy companies that have turned action figures from a child's plaything to a work of art.

As part of the grand opening, a costume contest was held and of course three KISS fans dressed as the hottest band in the world won the contest!

I was on eBay today, and discovered that Gene's original Spector Bass that he used during the late 70's into the early 80's, (then in the Unholy video) is up for auction. Included as well is the strap from 70's (that blood is still on), ad well as the case as well as Gene's signature on the bass.

Here's the link.

KISS Related Sighting

Just thought I'd pass along a KISS related sighting. Tina and I went to see the new Cameron Crowe movie "Elizabethtown" and in a scene where Orlando Bloom's character "Drew" needs to select an urn for the cremation of his father the last one that they showed was a KISS urn. It depicted the "Reunion" shot that was used for the stand-up along with the words "KISS FOREVER".

What's New In KISS Collectibles
KISS Meets the Phantom DVD

From: KISSmuseum.com

Serious movie critics and on-line summaries of the first full-length KISS movie often portray it as a low-quality laughable production. But fans know better. The October 28, 1978 Saturday Night Movie of the Week was one of the most anticipated dates for young KISS fans across the nation. To be able to see Ace, Gene, Peter and Paul acting out their larger than life characters in an action film was much more of a rewarding wait than the anticipation of Christmas. Combining acting, action, mystery and some of the most incredible concert footage ever shot of the band, it is a treasure to be watched over and over.

October 25th is the first official release date ever of the movie on DVD. The picture quality is comparable to VHS and has a mono soundtrack as had the original release 27 years ago. No special extras other than chapter selection, but nonetheless it is good to have a good, clean version of this film on a modern video disc.

You can pre-order KISS Meets the Phantom DVD here.

KISS Guitarist To Visit Sober Teens Festival
From: The Journal News

As organizers gear up for the third annual Sober Teens Festival at Carmel High School, it seems the event has taken on a life of its own.

The goal is still the same. Students will be asked to sign contracts pledging to stay sober until the age of 21, then the contracts will be co-signed by celebrities. This year, KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY is already on board, and other stars are in the works.

But what's happened since the free festival's inception is that it's become a "must-play" gig for local high school bands. With at least 700 students expected to attend the festival Sunday, musicians say it offers the perfect opportunity for exposure. This year, five bands from Putnam County will hit the stage, and one is traveling from New Jersey.

Online Poll - Replacement KISS Members
From: KISSAsylum.com

Eric, Tommy, Larry and Moe... KISS!!! Could this be the future for the Hottest Band in the World? News we posted last week of the possibility of KISS touring with NO original members and GENE SIMMONS suggesting there is a "core of fans - five or ten percent, my sense is - who believe in original members", has created a flurry of passionate emails here at KISSASYLUM.COM from fans with many different points of view. Too many emails for us to post or even respond to, so we created the 4 question survey based on many of the questions we received.

Should KISS be remembered only for the original four, or is it more important they continue as original members step out of the band? As a fan, no point of view is either right or wrong, and KISSASYLUM.COM tries to remain as objective as possible, (please correct us if we are not). We're here to pass on all KISS information to you as well as give you a forum to post your thoughts and opinions, so speak up and vote!

The Day KISS Rocked Cadillac
From: Northern Express

Retired Cadillac High School teacher Jim Neff leans back in his living room chair each evening after dinner surrounded by his "15 Minutes of Fame." The plaque on the wall above him reads "Jim Neff Honorary Member of KISS." The guitar next to him is a Signature Model PAUL STANLEY given to Neff as a gift by the legendary KISS guitarist. There are photos, lots of memorabilia and news clippings from "Rolling Stone" to "Billboard" and numerous publications inbetween, all with Neff's name in them.

For the one-time assistant football coach/English teacher seeking out his "15 Minutes" was never the objective. Neff was simply looking for a way to motivate the football team that had named their defense KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). But the results of one special 24-hour period on October 9, 1975 went beyond motivating a football team; it brought students and administrators together and inspired a whole community. It also helped to shape the legacy of one of rock music's all time greatest bands, KISS.

"It brought the high school together," said then principal John Laurent. "For years, we had been trying to unite the student body and our faculty. KISS accomplished that in one night. It's also unlikely the impact the band had on Cadillac will ever be repeated."

Darrell shows off
his Ace Tattoo
KISS Kasket
From: Contact Music

KISS rocker GENE SIMMONS sent a coffin which was made especially for him, to the family of ex-PANTERA guitarist DARRELL 'DIMEBAG' ABBOT, after he was killed on stage during a concert last year (2004).

DIMEBAG was inspired by cult group KISS, and requested in his will that he be buried in one of the famous coffins.

Simmons says, "There were a limited number made and I sent mine to the family of 'Dimebag' Darrell. He requested in his will to be buried in a KISS Kasket, as he sort of learned his rock 'n' roll roots by listening to us for some strange reason."

Darrell was 38 when he was shot dead by a man who stormed the stage at a concert in Ohio.
