Ace Recap from Eddie Trunk
From: EddieTrunk.com

Below are some of the major points revealed by Ace during this exclusive special:

*He has nothing but positive things to say about all members of KISS past and present. He said he has spoken to Paul several times and hopes to reach Gene soon. Now that he has changed his life he says he has no idea how Gene and Paul put up with him for as long as they did and he has no problem with anything they have done with the band and it's history. He feels that TOMMY THAYER is the best possible replacement for him in KISS. He feels his time in the band did not end that badly and simply believed that the Farewell Tour was a .... Farewell. He is open to doing one final show or tour with KISS if approached. He wished all of the bands past and present members a Merry Christmas, as well as band manager Doc McGhee.

*Ace plans on touring in the Spring with an all new "All Star" band. He will also launch an official website soon that he hopes to sell his next CD on. No time table for when the CD will be done but it might be a 3 CD set with some different styles of music and maybe an all covers CD.

ESP in Mexico
From: KISSAsylum.com

Another fun trip to Mexico. This time for the ESP shows at the KISS Lounge just outside Mexico City. The Lounge itself is great! KISS memorablilia everywhere. Guitars, Gold Awards, merchandise, collectibles - you name it - if it KISS, it's on display there! Kiko and Conrado did a wonderful job with the club. If your in Mexico City, you really need to take the time to check out the KISS Lounge!

Here's some photos from the trip. All of these photos were taken by our good friend Al Soluri. Thanks to all the fans who came up and told me they love Asylum!! Much appreciated.

Ace on Eddie Trunk
From: Mick's Headbangers Ball

Original KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY is currently working on a solo album for a tentative spring release, he revealed during a guest appearance Dec. 23 on the "Merry KISSmass Special" with Eddie Trunk on New York's Q104.3 FM. Around 15 songs are being recorded for the effort (with about 10 expected to make the final cut), which will be made available through Ace's soon-to-be-relaunched web site, AceFrehley.com, as well as via proper label channels (Frehley is "talking" to several different record companies at the moment). Although he offered no details, Frehley indicated that he would definitely be back on the road sometime in the spring, "either in a small club or Madison Square Garden - hopefully Madison Square Garden," Ace said. Frehley - who says he has been sober for two and a half years now - will be accompanied by a brand-new band once he hits the road, but he offered no specifics as to who will make up his backing group for any of the upcoming shows.

Asked if there was a scenario under which he could envision himself ever returning to the stage as part of KISS (alongside GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY), Ace said, "I think it could be fun, if it was the right situation." During his appearance on the "Merry KISSmass Special", Frehley also premiered a recent rough-mix recording of a semi-acoustic version of the ROLLING STONES classic "2,000 Man", which originally appeared on KISS' "Dynasty" album (1979).

As previously reported, Frehley's former record label, Megaforce Records, will be issuing a compilation titled album, entitled "Greatest Hits Live", on January 24, 2006. According to a press release, this CD "represents some of the best work from legendary KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY during the period after his highly publicized departure from one of the greatest rock bands of all time." As with the previous Megaforce ACE FREHLEY releases "12 Picks" (1996) and "Loaded Deck" (1997), Ace himself had nothing to do with putting this package together.

Dale Torborg (The KISS Demon) On TNA Impact!
From: The Void...

Chicago White Sox catcher and World Series champion AJ Pierzynki, and Strength coach Dale Torbrog, Formerly The KISS Demon for WCW, Appeared at the November 29th taping of TNA Impact! On Spike TV, presenting White Sox signed World Series memorabilia to A.J. Styles, Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt, Three of the most popular wrestlers in the X-Division.

Mike Tenay took center stage with the microphone, and introduced a member of the Chicago White Sox, AJ Pierzynski, and strength coach Dale Torborg (Formerly The KISS Demon for WCW) and the one and only Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Bobby began with stating that as soon as the White Sox signed AJ, he knew they were going to be the Heavyweight Champions of baseball. AJ Pierzynski talked about how he grew up being a wrestling fan, and then gave his own baseball bat to AJ Styles and the X-Division, in honor of what they have done. Dale Torborg also presented a bat signed by all the players of the Chicago White Sox. AJ Styles then had something to present on behalf of everyone in TNA.

That's where Simon Diamond had a problem, and came down along with members of The Diamonds In The Rough, showing just how utterly disrespectful he can be. Simon demanded that AJ Pierzynski get out the Impact Zone, and to take the man who couldn't succeed in his sport, Dale Torborg with him. Simon then said he personally doesn't hit .256, but instead he hits homeruns. A brawl broke out as security had to quickly come to the scene and break it up as we went to a commercial break. Later that night TNA Championship Committee announced that on Sunday, December 11th at the monthly TNA-NWA Pay-Per-View "Turning Point" it would be The Diamonds In The Rough Vs. Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin & Dale Torborg with AJ Pierzyski managing.

ACE FREHLEY: Greatest Hits Live
From: KISSAsylum.com

The cover art for the "Greatest Hits Live" CD being released by Megaforce on Jan. 24, 2006. The Track listing:
1. Rip It Out (Live)
2. Breakout (Live)
3. Cold Gin (Live)
4. Shock Me (Live)
5. Rocket Ride (Live)
6. Deuce (Live)
7. Strangers In A Strange Land (Live)
8. Separate (Live)
9. New York Groove (Live)
10. Rock Soldiers (Live)
11. One Plus One
12. Give It To Me Anyway

It looks like this material is simply a repackaging/consolidation of material previously released on "12 Picks" (1997) and "Loaded Deck" (1998). As such, tracks 1-6, 8 & 9 were recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England in March 1988 and feature Ace, John Regan, Tod Howarth, and Jamie Oldaker; Tracks 7-10 come from "Loaded Deck." Tracks 7 & 10 were recorded at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, September 4, 1987 and feature Ace, Tod, John, and Anton Fig; Tracks 11-12 are the studio outtakes from "Loaded Deck." "One Plus One" was one of the great unknowns of the Frehley's Comet recording history prior to its release in 1998. Written by Anton Fig and Phil Gladston, the song would be recorded during the first album sessions, but along with "Words Are Not Enough" would be discarded and sit in Megaforce's vaults for over a decade, apparently forgotten by all. "Give It To Me Anyway" was under consideration for use on the "Trouble Walkin'" album and was fully recorded by Ace, Anton, Richie, and John. However, it was not used at the time. Of course, the song had been performed live by Frehley's Comet since 1984 as it was one of the early songs the band wrote.

December Q&A with TOMMY THAYER
From: TommyThayer.com

Question #1 What do you think of people like Satriani, Vai, Sheehan and others that take guitar playing to a whole new level, practically making their names on doing solos? -- Robert Del Monte, Corpus Christi, TX

ANSWER: That's great, especially for the technique-minded guitar player. I've always appreciated more of a song-oriented or melodic approach to guitar playing and guitar solos, where the parts are memorable and quite often very simple.

Question #2 I have noticed that the open guitar licks to the Black 'N Blue song "Nasty Nasty" are very similar, if not the same, to the KISS song "Domino" Was this a co-ink-a-dink? -- Teri Nelsen, Portland, OR

ANSWER: It's possible. Gene had produced the B 'N B album, so the "Domino" riff might have subliminally come from that.

Message from BRUCE KULICK
From: Kulick.net

Happy Holidays to you all! I had a very exciting November and December, so here goes with a report on my travels to Europe with UNION and Mexico with ERIC SINGER.

We started in a town called Sion, Switzerland which is in a valley of the Swiss Alps where my friend and tour manager Nicolas lives. First time for John Corabi, Fred Coury (Cinderella) on drums and Chuck Garric (Alice Cooper) and they were quite impressed. I have been there so many times it was great to show the guys around. We rehearsed courtesy of our opening act Crystal Dusk. It was very cool to get to hang out in the town, and the guys from Crystal Dusk helped show the guys around. After Sion, off on a regular touring schedule which is very hectic.

Off to Zurich for our show at Alpenrock, and we really had a great first show. I love that venue as it is quite unique with its "in the Alps look." Next day off to Germany for our two shows. We had a travel day on Thanksgiving, and a meal that was fit for a king when we finally arrived 6 hours later. Heike the promoter was very sweet to prepare such an amazing feast for us Americans long from home. That night we saw snow, and living in LA of course, I don't get to see it often. My hotel room had a heated water bed!! The next night in the city was show day, but Fred and I got to walk around a bit and see the beautiful German City of Babenhausen after sound check. Bought German pastries and pretzels. They rule!

"I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas ! It has been a long year touring wise for me & I want to say thanx for all for the support I recieved out there on the road.

On this past Saturday the 17th I was in Phoenix for Alice Cooper's yearly "Christmas Pudding" show. It was a great line-up this year ! STYX, The TUBES, Don Felder, Jeff Keith & Troy Lucketta from TESLA, CTA featuring Danny Seraphine the original drummer from the band CHICAGO and of course ALICE with a special guest guitarist Dick Wagner !! Dick was in Alice's original solo band for the Welcome to my Nightmare tour.

Damon Johnson, Chuck Garric & myself had the honour of playing with EAGLES guitarist Don Felder as his backing band. Believe me this guy is a Legend on guitar. Damon was like a kid in a candy store playing along side Don during Hotel California. We also did Eagles song "Take it Easy" & "Pride & Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughn

New PAUL STANLEY Solo Album Will Be Worth The Wait
From: KISSAsylum.com

Last Tuesday I received one of the best KISSmas gifts ever! PAUL STANLEY himself played me his new CD! Wow, just typing that line makes me laugh. If you had told me back in '78 when I was listening to his first solo record, that Paul would personally play me his next solo record before it was released, even at 11 years old I would have thought you were crazy. I also would have been more interested in hearing Gene's next solo release. Not that I did not like Paul, but I was a Gene fanatic and back in '78 I would have probably liked "Asshole" too. Funny how things happen in life, how you change when you grow up and realize that not all things that were important to you as a kid are so important anymore! I still smile at the fire and blood but now 38 years old I need a little more to impress me. Not much more, I just want to know you put a little effort into the project, a little substance beneath the smoke and mirrors. You do that and I'll cut you some slack.

Twenty seconds into the first track of Paul's new CD and it was obvious that no slack cutting was needed here. Paul put a lot of effort into this one. A whole lot of effort, a whole lot of heart & soul and a whole lot of pride! I was listening to an unmastered CD on an ok stereo system and it rocked! The sound hits you instantly! This is a top notch recording sonically but not too polished or over produced. All the musicians are on top of their game. The first two tracks caught me off guard. Dare I say, a modern PAUL STANLEY sound. I don't know how else to describe it.

The first track in particular reminds me of a movie sound track song with a big powerful chorus that just makes you want to get up and save the world. Mid way through the CD it's obvious that Paul came to play, that he took this project very seriously. A few songs do remind me of his '78 release and there are a couple in the "Forever" vein with a beautiful lush sound. Vocally, Paul sounds more like his early days to me. From beginning to end, I kept waiting for a filler track that never appeared.

PAUL STANLEY may need more hip surgery
From: UPI Newswire

KISS guitarist PAUL STANLEY says his degenerative hip condition is worsening and he will probably end up going under the knife a third time.

"I think I'm not done (with surgery)," Stanley told RockRadio.com. "I think that, unfortunately, things just haven't gone as smoothly as expected, and the second, you know, revision of that first surgery just didn't do what was necessary. And I think after the new year I'm going to have to start looking to probably have something redone."

The 55-year-old KISS StarChild said his hip problems stem from the thousands of shows he has performed with the hard rock band since the early 1970s.

PAUL STANLEY: The Band Has Never Been Better
From: Mick's Headbangers Ball

KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY recently spoke to The Plain Dealer about the group's just-released "KISS Rock the Nation Live!" (Image Entertainment), a two-DVD set shot in Washington, D.C., on the group's 2004 tour.

"It really, for me, resoundingly validates why this band exists," says singer-guitarist PAUL STANLEY, who's looking for a label home for a solo album he recently finished. "It's not a tepid re-creation of the past. It's really an ageless beast that dominates at will. It's timeless."

Stanley says the current lineup, which includes co-founder GENE SIMMONS plus drummer ERIC SINGER and guitarist TOMMY THAYER, has the musical dexterity to incorporate more songs, something KISS' original lineup lacked.

The Click Five
From: KISSAsylum.com

Took my kids to see The Click Five last week here in INDY and ended up enjoying the show myself. You may remember them from previous posts here on Asylum. PAUL STANLEY wrote "Angel to You" on their new CD and their manager is former KISS Tour manager Wayne Sharp.

The band actually put on a great show and I was truly impressed. They remind me of the Beatles meets a poppy KISS (Crazy Nights)! All the members have a great stage presence and a lot of energy. Watching them, it's obvious they are KISS fans. Even my 9 year old pointed out KISS stage moves throughout their set.

They are geared towards teenage girls, and its working judging from the thousands who screamed throughout their set, but I'm pretty sure if you catch them live, you'll smile with their cheesy good pop rock and stage antics. If nothing else you'll love their keyboard player who reminded me of Stiffler from the American Pie movies.

Rock The Nation Live! DVD Preview Party Report
From: KISSKollector.com

Some 130 fans received an invitation for the exclusive KISS Rock The Nation Live! DVD preview/release party at the Amsterdam Hard Rock Cafe in Holland on December 13, as organized by KISS Kollector Fanclub and SonyBMG (the band\'s label in Holland). The Hard Rock Cafe was very crowded and the DVD could be seen on a big screen (in the upper restaurant part of the HRC) as well as on several wide screen and regular TV screens throughout the cafe. At the entrance, there was a big Harley Davidson from the London Hard Rock Cafe, surroundedby TV screens too - so the DVD could be seen all over the place.

The DVD was exclusively sold at the party as well, and almost all available copies sold out right away. There was also some KISS merchandise for sale, including the KISSopoly game. Fans seemed to love the new DVD, with quite some of them agreeing this is one of the (if not THE) best KISS home videos ever. A lot of familiar KISS fan faces were seen in the crowd as well as some new faces too, including a couple of fans from other countries. And even the new generation KISS fans was present (one kid with a big tomahawk hairstyle in GENE SIMMONS make up)!

All in all, the exclusive preview/release party was a big success, with a lot of fans stating afterwards that they had enjoyed the party (and the DVD) very much.

Thanks to everybody involved for making this another successful KISS event!

ERIC SINGER Q&A
From: KISSOnline.com

QUESTION: I read that you come from a musical family, in particular, that your dad was a professional musician. Is that true? --- Ian Douglas, Guildford, England

Yes, both my mother & father were very musical. My father was a bandleader his whole life, mostly in the Cleveland area. I started playing in his band at the age of 14. We would play what is called "society music" (in other words we played for affluent people) He was a violin & saxophone player. I gained invaluable experience playing in his band which I would not realize until much later. My mother also was very musical, she played the violin as well & is a great singer. She also participated in theater groups which some of my brothers & I also joined in at times. I really thank both of my parents for the support & great influence they had on me musically!

QUESTION: Your involvement in the organization of a concert for Hurricane Katrina relief was great, how did it go? --- Kerri Muriel, Concord, NH

Bill Starkey: General of The KISS Army
From: antiMusic.com

When one thinks of KISS, thoughts of their anthem-like songs and spectacular stage shows come to mind. However, just as important are their legions of fans. In the mid 1970's they became known as the KISS Army. One man was responsible for this as well as kick-starting the merchandising giant that exists today. His name is Bill Starkey and every KISS fan owes him a great debt. Without him, we might be known as the KISS buddies or the Friends of KISS or some other such uninspired moniker. Those of us from the early days also might not have been able to get our band t-shirts and merchandise without his help.

I spoke to Bill last week about being on the forefront of the band exploding across the world and his relationship with the band over the years.

antiMusic: Before we get to the massive contribution you've made to the best band in the world, how do you feel about KISS' exclusion from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

ACE FREHLEY to Co-host Eddie Trunk's Original Merry KISSmass Special 12/23
From: EddieTrunk.com

After years of silence, original KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY will be joining Eddie Trunk live on air to co-host this years Original Merry KISSmass Special. The show will air on Q104.3 FM in NYC (serving NJ, NY, Long Island & CT) December 23rd from 11PM-2AM EST. The show can also be heard live online that night on www.q1043.com. Trunk and Frehley have a long history and friendship together and Ace has made several memorable appearances on his programs over the years. Ace performed at the NY Steel benefit that Trunk organized in 2001 and also performed at Eddie's Birthday party in NYC a couple years later. This will be Ace's first music related appearance on radio and TV in several years.

Eddie Trunk began doing all KISS radio shows around Christmas over 15 years ago as a tribute to one of his all time favorite bands, and a band that's music is largely ignored in mainstream radio with the exception of a few songs. Ace has been a part of the program in previous years, as has fellow original members GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY and PETER CRISS. The show features music from the bands 30 plus years history, and includes all eras and lineups. Ace will be providing commentary and stories about much of the music played. PAUL SOLO RECORD: I'm Done, I'm Finished
From: BraveWords.com

Special Report By Martin Popoff

He is, of course referring to his new solo album, the legendary KISS guitarist adding that, "I'm just looking and talking with various labels to see where it will wind up. I mean, it's done, mixed and ready to go, and according to everybody who's heard it, it's damn good."

"Modern is a scary word," opines Stanley, when asked for a characterization of the record. "I would certainly say that it is very much in keeping with my personality and keeps a very consistent viewpoint, but it sounds really big and the songs are great. The singing is great and the songs are great and the playing is great. You know, so far so good."

Planners of the KISS Army March Meet to plan war on rock and roll hall of fame
From: Paul Carpenter

Kiss army march planners will cross the border on New Years Eve and meet on Canadian soil to discuss details about the KISS Army protest scheduled to be held later this year at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio. Canada has some of the most loyal and diehard KISS Army members around the world and it was no surprise to see them come in ready to fight for what they believe in says rally chairman Paul Carpenter.

Kim Rolfe and Kristine Conell (Kiss Army Canada) will meet with Joey Blight and Paul Carpenter (Kiss Army Detroit) recruiting fans at a concert g iven by the KISS Tribute band Destroyer on New Years Eve. We are looking for a tribute band to represent Canada at the march and we want the best says Kim Rolfe who shares duties in the merchandising aspect of the march. The announcement of the march is being well taken by the fans said Kristine who will organize the Canadians to come down by the busloads to Cleveland in August. This is what the fans here in Canada have been waiting for was for someone to take the bull by the horns. These two Ladies in Waiting(2001 www.genesimmons.com) are two of the most dedicated KISS Army Members in Canada and have initiated the mobilization of the KISS Army in Canada, don’t underestimate these two, they have been a major factor in the planning and recruiting of the march from the beginning. "It has been great working with these two", says Joey Blight who heads up the marketing of the KISS Army March, "They have come up with some great merchandise to help fund this rally".The constant omission of KISS from the Hall is a topic being discussed around the world and the Canadians are looking forward to making their own mark in kisstory as they come down out of the north and take Cleveland by storm. Responses from all over Canada have come in, fans are making sure they let us know that they will attend in advance and to ensure they get a reserved seat on the way down. This is an event that no KISS fan will want to miss. Radio stations have jumped on board and showed there support as well and we ask that all our brothers and sisters from Canada join us in this protest and show the world that the induction committee in the hall of fame does not speak for Canada!!! When Kim McQuigge a major recruiter from Canada was asked for comments she stated "I'm looking forward to meeting my fellow KISSers and getting KISS the recognition they deserve. The time is here for us all to stand up for what we believe in, and kick some Hall of Fame ass, how many bands have an army this loyal and this dedicated behind them?"

"The impact made from fans around the world on Kissstory will be enshrined forever by my Kissumentary I am filming at the March", says Phil Fiumano a television producer from the hit show NY Rocks. "I look forward to interviewing everyone down in Cleveland on August 5th!"

Rock all night with Des Moines' KISS tribute
From: dmjuice.com

Deuce, a KISS tribute band composed of members of local rock bands, performs Saturday in Urbandale.

The idea for the band came when Josh Brainard and Joe Corigliano saw the KISS tribute band Strutter play at the House of Bricks in 2004.

"After the show, we talked about starting our own tribute band," said Corigliano, who is the drummer for Calous. "I thought we could do better than Strutter. All of us had been KISS fans since we were kids, dressing up as them for Halloween and playing KISS covers in our bands growing up. Once we got into the thick of it, we found that doing a KISS tribute is more challenging than one may realize and we respect every tribute band for that."

Every once in a while, two entirely different things come together to form something new and wonderful. Peanut butter and jelly. Abbott and Costello. Ham and eggs. Peanut butter and Costello. The list goes on and on.

This gift concept is another example of this phenomenon. What probably happened was this:

Some marketing people were sitting around a conference table, trying to "'brainstorm"' an idea for a product, and they got into an argument. On one side was a guy saying, "We need to put out a product that would appeal to fans of the legendary rock band KISS." On the other side was a guy saying, "No! We need to put out a product that can be used as a bath toy!" And then, just when it looked as though they had reached a stalemate, a light bulb went on over their heads, and they decided to ingest powerful narcotics.

The result is the KISS Celebriducks, a set of four rubber ducks shaped vaguely like the members of KISS. They go with pretty much any bathroom decor, and make a fun and educational toy for anybody except children under the age of 21.

From: KISSAsylum.com

Hello, My name is Joey' a.k.a. thefox80 and I noticed you had a mention of young drummer from Macomb MI. Angelo Coppola. I came to hear about Angelo and his drumming talent from various "KISS" related web-sites on the net and a local news publication.

I let my fingers do the walking and found out that Angelo and his family lived not much more than a few miles from were I live in Macomb, MI so I called his father joe and made arrangements to suprise Angelo on Halloween dressed in my full ERIC CARR gear!

Here are the two photo's taken of us on Halloween night it was a pleasure to meet with Angelo and his Family plus hearing him jam out on the drums this young man blew me away!

Union For Children Show
From: KISSAsylum.com

Well, we finally get back to normal. Everything went great with the UNION show, besides the weather. It started to snow really bad on Thursday night and the whole day Friday. A lot of people got stock on the Highways. But the reviews to the show were great. Click on the link below - the first pictures of the show. I will send you some more.

We went with the band to Witten (close to Dortmund) the next day and it was an adventure, lots of cars and trucks got stock in the snow, but we made it up there and also dropped of the guys save at the airport on sunday.

Take care
HK
