Ask Eric
From: Eric-Singer.com

Hi Eric!

I had my photo taken with you and it is framed and proudly placed on my wall above my drums! The one question I was too star-stricken to ask you is "what is the chance of KISS doing a one off concert in the u.k?" I've never had the oppurtunity to see KISS live I it is the only dream I have!!! I look forward to your reply, YOU ROCK,Daniel.

ES :Thanx Daniel, I had a really great time @ that Expo. There was a super turnout & all the fans were very kool & patient waiting in that long line. I have no idea about future KISS tour plans. But, I am sure that they are not finished just yet...

GENE LOOK-A-LIKE HELPS WOMAN CELEBRATE HER 40th BIRTHDAY

Long-time KISS fan and WVOW radio on-air personality Bill France helped an area teacher celebrate her 40th birthday at the local RENO's restaurant on Friday, Jan. 27th.

France said a mutual friend approached him about helping her do something special for the woman's birthday. "To be honest, I think she had an Elvis impersonation in mind." He then showed her some pictures of himself wearing his GENE SIMMONS costume, the woman replied..."that's perfect!"

France treated the crowd to a very Gene-like performance of Happy Birthday, then took pictures with everyone including the RENO's staff.

Eric at NAMM
From: Eric-Singer.com

I attended the annual NAMM Convention this past weekend in Anaheim. As usual there were many familiar faces hanging out or working the booths. PEARL drums had some great looking finishes on the kits this year. Loved em' !! Stopped by to say hey to Jim Bickley @ ATTACK drum heads too. I did a signing session @ Zildjian friday & saturday & got to see many kool fans come by to say hey. Even Gene came by with his camera crew in tow to "make a scene" as he is famous for doing. I was a bit under the weather & decided to leave saturday night after I went to see MONTROSE play at one of the show events. Ronnie sounded great as always & my good friend Jimmy DeGrasso was on drums.

Legs Diamond Discuss Van Halen, KISS and 'Diamonds Are Forever'

In a brand new, exclusive interview with Rock N Roll Universe (www.rocknrolluniverse.com) legendary Southern Californian hard rockers Legs Diamond discuss their new album 'Diamonds Are Forever', the association the band had with KISS during the early days of the band's career as well as the departure of original vocalist Rick Sanford. Also covered are the band's days on the Sunset Strip where a young David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen reportedly begged the band to open for them early in Van Halen's career. A short excerpt from the interview follows below:

Rock N Roll Universe: During the early days of the band, Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth came to you and begged the band to let Van Halen open for you. What can you tell us about that situation?

Jeff Poole: Actually it was to Mike Prince and myself. We were at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. They came up to us, and at the time, we were one of the first bands to actually get signed. There was a lot of good music going on in L.A. at that time. We were one of the first bands though to actually get signed and get things going. Van Halen were making a name for themselves doing some of the clubs. They were playing a lot in Pasadena, they were playing Gazarri's, which I guess is now the Key Club. At the time, we were doing some bigger shows, so they wanted to get on with us. They actually came over and basically said if there's anything you guys can do to talk to promoters into letting us open for you it'd be great. We said, sure, we'd be glad to do that. I remember asking a few different people saying "Hey, Van Halen would be a great band to play the show." But it just never worked out, they never got a chance to do that. It's kind of a shame, it would be a great stor y to tell now that we started playing together. We joke now that it's time to let them know that we're finally ready for them to do it. (Laughs) It was a good time to have a band in Los Angeles back then, because the Rainbow, The Sunset Strip, it wasn't as touristy as it is now. You could mingle with whoever were the biggest stars of our time. I'd go there at night and literally sit there and talk with John Bonham. Then he'd say "We'd better sit down, the show's about to begin, because Keith Moon just walked in." With his antics, he'd just take over the entire place. A lot of times, we were very good friends with everybody from Deep Purple, so we would sit at the table with Ritchie Blackmore, who actually had started Rainbow at the time. then get together with Ian Paice. It was a really good time to get going. Cozy Powell of course was there as well. It's amazing, some of the people that have asked if they could produce us over the years. Cliff Davies from the Ted Nugent ban d wanted to be our producer. Ian Paice wanted to get involved and do it, Cozy Powell wanted to do it. I always found that amazing that three drummers that I really look up to have all at one point asked if they could produce this band. Just a little bit of trivia that I find quite interesting.

KISS Sighting on 'Love Monkey'
From: several KISS fans

There was a KISS sighting in the new episode of Love Monkey on CBS. In the opening scenes of the new TV show 'Love Monkey', the star starts his day by pulling out and listening to the Alive album (with original Casablanca label), and has a flashback to his childhood, where he walks out of his home wearing Gene's face paint and proceeds to school. The girls at school look at him with fear and/or disgust. It set up the episode with the theme of, with good rock and roll and a little packaging, you can go far.

KISS FAN FINDS SOLACE IN NEW DVD RELEASE
From: KISSAsylum.com

The rave reviews for the new KISS "Rock the Nation" DVD keep pouring in. This one from a typical fan, Rocky Pottle, who finds not only entertainment but therapeutic use from the bombastic sights and sounds from this latest disc from the band:

"Hi guys. I just received my copy of 'Rock the Nation' DVD. It is amazing, thank you! I also would like to take this opportunity to thank KISS for helping me out. I have a disease called Multiple Sclerosis. I listen to KISS every day; it's very therapeutic. It really helps lessen my pain, so again thank you. I really enjoyed the fact that they played some songs we haven't heard in a long time ... 'Makin' Love,' 'Tears are Falling,' 'War Machine.' Documentary part was really well-done, loved the photo session and also photos with the fans. You could see that the band is up there having fun, can't wait until they put out another KISS album!"

Rocky Pottle still collects all the CDs, dolls, lunchboxes and posters and is currently has his heart set on obtaining both colossal coffee-table books KISStory 1 and 2. His determination does not keep him away from the concerts either, his last being a trek from his home in British Columbia across the border to Seattle to witness the World Domination tour. But it is difficult for him to do everyday tasks we take for granted, as Rocky tells us:

KISS Continues to 'Rock The Nation'
From: Good Times Magazine

Hello, and Happy New Year! Here in the New York City/Long Island area, there has been a cool, complimentary entertainment newspaper for the last 37 years called, Good Times. KISS has graced the cover numerous times. In the latest issue dated January 17th to January 30th, 2006, there is a great story on KISS. There is a cool, posed, color photo on the cover taken from the 'Rock the Nation' tour. The caption says: KISS continues to 'Rock The Nation'. The story by David J. Criblez is on page 24. On that page is the same photo that's on the cover, but it's much smaller and in black & white. Scroll down and read the great story! Paul very candidly talks about Eric and Tommy, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Gene, Peter, Ace, the Farewell Tour and his upcoming solo CD and tour. Enjoy!
------
KISS is an institution that is more than 30 years strong and will not die. Their new double DVD, "Rock The Nation," proves how - despite the loss of original members drummer PETER CRISS and guitarist ACE FREHLEY - the band marches on determined to prove to the world their validity. Fouding members guitarist PAUL STANLEY and bassist GENE SIMMONS keep the dream alive by adding drummer ERIC SINGER and guitarist TOMMY THAYER to the mix, trumping up the band's song.

As you may remember, all four members of the original KISS lineup went on a farewell tour in 2000 with a plan to retire the band. However, they changed their minds. "What became clear after the end of the farewell tour is that I didn't want to stop playing, I just wanted to stop playing with those guys," said PAUL STANLEY. "We had done something monumental by coming back together but it started to wane when the old problems reared their heads. The limitations of the band started to creep in again. It became difficult if not impossible to change the set list. We ended up playing the same set for three tours. It became old and tense when people's quirks and personality problems just became evident."

The fans resoundingly didn't want the band to end and KISS responded to their needs. "I realized that our restrictions were self-imposed. Everybody is entitled to change their mind," said Stanley. "The line-up changed and took its natural course. First Peter was gone, then Ace decided he didn't want to go back on tour. The question is: do we stay home because somebody doesn't want to tour or do we continue because we want to?"

ACE FREHLEY Interview for Guitar World Magazine
From: Blabbermouth.net

Guitar World magazine recently conducted a short interview with original KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Guitar World: What inspired you to play guitar:

ACE FREHLEY: I was raised in a musical household, so I was surrounded by music all day long. My parents played piano, and my brother and sister played piano and folk guitar. My brother showed me a few chords on his acoustic guitar. The one day I visited a friend who had an electric guitar and a small amp, and it changed my life. I held the guitar in my hands, turned the volume to 10 and hit the low E string, and the sound just droned. I was hooked! It was like a heroin addict's first shot of dope.

Question #1: Tommy, after reading the story about how you were able to help that Oregon grade school by getting band equipment donated to them I was curious about what it was like actually going there to the school and seeing the faces of those kids as the instruments were presented? Will you be attending any of their concerts when you're in Oregon? Thank You. -- Debbie Beverley, Waynesboro, Virginia

ANSWER: I was impressed by what a great school WL Henry is, they're doing a fantastic job. There was a lot of excitement during the presentation and the entire school attended. Those kids were great! They are going to have a real school band now.

Question #2: What is the difference between the Aerosmith you toured with last year and the Aerosmith that Black N Blue toured with back in the day? -- Joanne Prince, Brooklyn, NY

A Salute From The Army
From: ESPN.com

As a devout, addicted KISS fan since I saw them on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special in 1976, I have learned to never be surprised by anything the band does. KISS has always tried to scale new, often unexplored, heights.

While KISS has continued to endure, GENE SIMMONS has always shown a great enthusiasm for side projects and is known for being a tireless entrepreneur. He caught the acting bug in the 1980s. He started his own record label, and even published his own men's magazine. His involvement in auto racing led to the KISS image being placed on the NASCAR skins of Sterling Marlin and Kevin Harvick. He even had the WCW feature a KISS wrestler. Gene aggressively promotes KISS and himself, and that is why the IRL has chosen to team up with him. Like him or not, Gene will get your attention.

Many KISS fans have expressed that they would rather see a new album from the band instead of seeing Gene involved in non-KISS ventures. For now, they'll look forward to PAUL STANLEY's upcoming solo album.

KISS licking bootleggers with the Commerce Clause
From: Law.com

Plaintiffs Gene Klein (aka GENE SIMMONS), PAUL STANLEY and their KISS Catalog, Ltd. have made some progress in their lawsuit against Passport International Products, a company that has been selling a DVD of a July 10, 1976 concert the band KISS performed at New Jersey's Roosevelt Stadium. Cathy Kirkman reports in the Silicon Valley Media Law Blog that a California district court upheld the federal anti-bootlegging statute, 17 U.S.C. 1101, as constitutional.

Kirkman explains how "the Court concluded that the legislation was within the scope of the Commerce Clause and not 'fundamentally inconsistent' with the Copyright Clause."

Bootlegging statute held constitutional
From: Silcon Valley Media Law

In KISS Catalog v. Passport International, the District Court for the Central District of California has held that the federal anti-bootlegging statute, 17 U.S.C. 1101, is constitutional.

This vacates an earlier decision, which held that the statute violates the "for limited times" provision of the Copyright Clause. The case was reconsidered on the motion of the United States, which intervened after that ruling.

In finding the statute constitutional, the Court concluded that the legislation was within the scope of the Commerce Clause and not "fundamentally inconsistent" with the Copyright Clause.

GENE SIMMONS to handle marketing for Indy Racing League
From: Indy Racing League

One of GENE SIMMONS' companies, his Simmons/Abramson Marketing division, will be handling the marketing campaign for this year's season of the Indy Racing League, which might explain why Gene (pictured with one of the racing teams) spent a couple of days in Indianapolis last month to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In December, Gene got some tutoring from the top ranks and also dined with driver Tomas Scheckter and IMS CEO Tony George. Back then Indy Racing League spokesman John Griffin denied that any official relationship was forged during Gene's visit.

However, in an article titled "KISS of approval for IRL", IndyStar.com reports today that "The Indy Racing League will put its 'I Am Indy' marketing campaign for the 2006 season in the hands of a company owned by legendary rock artist GENE SIMMONS of KISS, a league spokesman said Monday. Simmons-Abramson Marketing is one of several new components to the IRL's marketing campaign. Walt Disney Co. has signed to become the league's official entertainment company, providing video boards for pre-race entertainment at events."

I only caught the last few minutes of the CNN Headline News with Paul and Gene Friday night. There was mention of the attendance records, beating the Beatles and Elvis and of Rock the Nation. And yes Gene was behaving as a "wrestler" as Paul so eloquently put it. And ladies, Mr Stanley was wearing a HUGE wedding band. I'm sure if we check the CNN website there will be more info.

KISS Sighting
From: Gary Fisher

I am a fan of videogaming ... so I was watching g4tv (a videogame channel) and a show came on called "Judgement Day". They were showing some of the items at the comic convention event, and at the end of the show, it said "huge star appears..." and then GENE SIMMONS walks by the camera. He looked right into it, and even looked at the guys who are on the show. On the screen it said "GENE SIMMONS" and had an arrow pointing at him.

The second sighting happened around 10-10:30 pm. GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY appeared on a show called "Showbuzz". I didnt catch all of it, but I saw the end where Gene mentioned something and Paul said "I swear you get more like a wrestler every day!" The "Rock The Nation" DVD was also mentioned.

Interview with Mike Japp
From: KISSRevenge.com

Asylum editor's note: Mike Japp played guitar on PAUL STANLEY's 1978 solo album, and co-wrote "Saint and Sinner" with GENE SIMMONS for KISS' Creatures Of The Night album.

Tell us a little about your roots & family.

I was born in South Wales in the UK. I moved to the States 30 years ago, and have called Los Angeles my home for many years! However, I am back in Wales playing music and visiting with my family at this time. I have two brother and two sisters, two older and two younger. Wales is a magical place and has given birth to many a great talent! It is said that Merlin the magician was a Welshman. I love Wales and if If you ever get a chance to visit you should.

Who or what inspired you to become a musician, what is your musical background?

My inspirations growing up were the Beatles (and still are) Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Animals and such other bands like these. My total experience was Hendrix! When I saw him on the TV I was captured and hooked big time! Even now when I see old videos and films of Jimi, I see passion flowing out of him, that was for me and, still is! I have played dirty old places and breathtaking auditoriums with all kinds of different bands and still love it, no matter where I am playing.

PAUL STANLEY Plays New Solo Album Featuring BRUCE KULICK For Lucky Fan
From: VH1 News

What's just about the only thing better than getting your favourite artist's new album? How about having said favourite artist give you a sneak-listen to the entire thing before the album even comes out? Well, that's exactly what happened to Keith Leroux, who listened to KISS guitarist PAUL STANLEY's new solo effort and posted his thoughts on KissAsylum.com Keith wrote, 'I was listening to an un-mastered CD on an OK stereo system and it rocked! The sound hits you instantly! This is a top notch recording sonically but not too polished or over-produced. All the musicians are on top of their game.' Among others, former KISS guitarist BRUCE KULICK who plays bass on a few songs- joins Stanley on the album. It's expected to hit shelves in early 2006.

We are happy to have BRUCE KULICK returning to Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp® in February out in Hollywood as one of our rockin' counselors!

KISS/ERIC CARR Tribute Spawns Multimedia Adventure with All Star Cast
From: NightTraveler.com

Kiss/ERIC CARR tribute album, PROPHECY, has spawned a multimedia adventure with an all star cast!!

Night Traveler: Prophecy of the Elder is a brand new series of multimedia adventures set for its debut on January 27th, 2006. The series was inspired by the cover art of the 2000 release of PROPHECY, a tribute to former KISS drummer, ERIC CARR. Reaction to the album cover, designed to mimic the 1978 KISS solo albums, was so strong that the public demanded a backstory!

This first installment of the Night Traveler series boasts an all star cast starting with none other than pro wrestling icon, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!! Piper has starred in his fare share of films, most notably John Carpenter's They Live, but Night Traveler: Prophecy of the Elder marks his debut as a voice actor. Also part of the cast is Star Wars legend and James Bond alumnus, Jeremy Bulloch. Bulloch is best known for his portrayal of bounty hunter Boba Fett in the original Star Wars saga. Cindy Morgan, the actress who starred as Yori in Disney's ground breaking sci-fi adventure Tron also joins the cast. More announcements will be coming, so stay tuned!!

ERIC SINGER Q&A
From: KISSarmyKotka.com

A new KISS Army branch has been established in Kotka, Finland, and recently did a Q&A with KISS drummer ERIC SINGER: Question: Rock The Nation DVD is now out. It clearly shows the great chemistry between you four guys live. Do you think that there still might be a chance to capture that chemistry in studio? Do you have any plans to release yet another studio album? Do you feel it might be possible?
Answer: We do have a great chemistry playing wise & off stage as well. I think this is because we all are very professional as people & take what we do seriously & with alot of pride. I would love to see a recording of some kind in the future if it is meant to be...?

Question: There's been a debate on our Forum about whether you play the drums on God Gave Rock n' Roll To You II, or ERIC CARR? I know he's on the video, but I remember Paul revealing in an interview that it's actually you on the track. How did it feel to step into ERIC CARR's shoes?
Answer: Yes, I did indeed play drums in the studio on "God gave Rock n Roll to you II". This was of course produced by Bob Ezrin ! This was his return to KISS and it was such a good chemistry that he did REVENGE as well. At the time Paul called me to record the track for the movie soundtrack since Eric was ill & I lived in L.A. I was very honored to be asked & had no idea at that time how sick Eric really was. He was a really great drummer & sadly left us way too early...

Question: PAUL STANLEY is planning to release a solo album next year. Have you heard it? What is your opinion about it?
Answer: I have heard 4 tracks only. Very good stuff & modern sounding in a very classic PAUL STANLEY way :-) I know ALL the fans are gonna dig this record. I hope Paul does some shows this year, I know I will be there!!

KISS featured on new Millennium DVD box
From: KISSKollector.com

Millennium - The Complete Third Season, the recently released 6-DVD box set of the third season of TV series Millennium, features several KISS sightings as KISS was part of the final season's fifth episode. Of course, the episode guest starring KISS - titled …Thirteen Years Later - is part of the box (disc 2), but as a bonus the box also includes a 38 minute documentary (on disc 6) entitled End Game: Making Millennium Season Three which is dedicated for the main part to the series’ Halloween special guest starring KISS - which originally aired on October 30, 1998.

The documentary features some cool backstage footage plus interviews. Cast and crew proudly reminisce the KISS themed episode. One of their stories deals with ACE FREHLEY, who apparently only wanted to participate if he could play a very big, black man. Due to time limitations that wasn’t possible, and Ace agreed upon playing the part of a trinity cop (just like PETER CRISS, whereas PAUL STANLEY and GENE SIMMONS had other small roles - apart from appearing as KISS in concert too of course). Originally, Ace had five lines but those who’ve seen the eposide know that the speaking parts were cut in the editing room. Click here for some interview footage including KISS, with Gene fooling around with actor Lance Henriksen and Paul talking about being part of Millennium. Pictured is KISS on the set of Millennium with lead character FBI profiler Frank Black, played by Lance Henriksen.
