Three New PETER CRISS Songs Released On CD
From: KISSKollector.com

A while ago, a handful of songs co-written by original/former KISS drummer PETER CRISS were published by Athletic Cowboy Music and released on the debut album by One Of A Kind, the band formed by former Criss bassist Mark Montague. The tracks Golden Arm and The Shooter are listed as co-writes by Peter. However, a third song, U Gotta Know is only credited to Montague in the CD booklet whereas the ASCAP registration also lists Peter as a writer of the song that also has been published by PETER CRISS Publishing - just like the other two songs credited as being PETER CRISS co-writes.

Along with 10 other songs, these tracks appear on the self-titled One Of A Kind album, released on Azimuth Records in October of last year. In the booklet, Peter and Gigi Criss are amongst the many people thanked by the band, and Peter's website is also being listed, by the way. One Of A Kind's history goes back to 2004, when Mark Montague's new band hit the metal scene and completed by drummer Ryan Brown and another former Criss member, guitarist Mike McLaughlin, he recorded the first album. The trio was helped out in the studio by a handful of other musicians, including KISS drum roadie Ed Kanon and Eddie Rogers who replaced Peter in Criss when Peter reunited with KISS (Criss then went on under the name Skoff). Montague of course co-wrote most songs on the 1993 Criss EP as well as the band's full length debut album Cat #1 as released in 1994. (The photo shows the 1994 Criss line up, consisting of f-l-t-r: PETER CRISS, Mike Stone, Mark Montague and Mike McLaughlin.)

The song The Shooter (lyrics by Peter and Montague/music by Montague) happens to be an old Criss tune that they played during their live performances in 1995. Golden Arm is a co-write between Peter, Montague and Barbara Degennaro, while Montague wrote the music. The album's opening track, One Of A Kind, probably also was born in 1995 during the final Criss days, as it's a co-write between that year's Criss members Montague and Jason Ebs (lyrics) as well as Montague and Mike McLaughlin (music). For more info on the One Of A Kind album, please check out KISS Related Recordings. A full review of the CD will appear in the next issue of KISS Kollector magazine.

Chris Is A David In A Goliath World
From: News Telegraph UK

Chris Hardman was once an ordinary 15-year-old who went to an ordinary comprehensive school in the ordinary seaside town of Lowestoft, Suffolk. Living with his mother Karen, 43, a supermarket worker, father Ian, 43, a slaughterhouse worker and his brother and sister, his only claim to fame was that at 4ft 11in, he was the shortest boy at Kirkley High School.

Then the television cameras from Channel 4's Rock School arrived, along with GENE SIMMONS, the face-paint wearing, "demon guitarist" of KISS, one of the world's most outrageously successful rock acts.

The "rock legend" has notched up 43 gold discs, 30 years of touring and, he says, 4,600 female conquests. But now he faced a new challenge: teaching teenagers from Lowestoft to be rock musicians and selecting the best for the Rock School band.

One-Of-A-Kind KISS Motorcycle Miniature
From: Peter Stasukevics

Artist Pete Stasukevics describes for us how he created this unique motorcycle model:

"I bought my FXRT Harley brand new in 1986. Ever since, I have been looking for a model of this bike. Most Harley mechanics agree that the FXRT is the best riding touring bike; it was never a great seller because it didn't have the well known gull wing shaped faring. Because of low demand no company bothered to make a model."

"I was recently in a ceramics store where they pour clay into molds for people to take home and paint, glaze and then have the piece fired. To my delight they had a Harley FXR. That is my bike without the faring trunk and saddle bags. If they could pour one and leave it wet for me I could make the bags and faring out of clay and attach them to the bike prior to firing. They agreed to do that so when I picked up the wet model I took it home and went to work fashioning saddle bags faring and trunk out of clay. After they hardened, but were not yet dry, I attached them to the bike. I let the piece dry slowly, then fired it in my kiln. Now it was ready for painting. I painted the whole piece with primer then sanded and sprayed it with silver spray paint. For the black and the white KISS faces I used an airbrush; the fine details I did with a very fine paint brush, then added a clear coat to the Black parts. The windshield was cut from a plastic container and formed around a jar. The bike is 13" long. The entire project took 30 hours".

PAUL STANLEY's Solo Album "Live To Win"
From: PaulStanleysParadise.com

KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY has confirmed to ABC Radio's ePrep that his new solo album will be called "Live to Win". Stanley is still in the process of shopping the record to labels in various countries, explaining, "There's nothing worse, that I've seen in the past, [than] when you have a deal, let's say in America, and the company in Germany hates your album." To combat that, the singer is seeking out different labels internationally to assure they're all excited about the CD. He expects it to be in stores in about four months.

Stanley is planning a tour to support the CD, and says he'll be bringing out a bigger band than he's used at past solo gigs, "because there's a lot more going on on this album." He estimates he'll have about six people in his band. As for the musicians he used during the recording of "Live to Win" - a list which includes session drummer Victor Indrizzo, guitarist Corky James, former MARILYN MANSON and current ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5, former KISS guitarist BRUCE KULICK (who plays bass on a few songs) and noted string arranger David Campbell - Stanley says, "[It's] some friends of mine - it's not a 'who's who.' I didn't want to do one of those albums where you list people and it becomes some sort of a, trying to impress everybody with names. So it's a great album. Everybody loves it." Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Wake Up Screaming" and "Second to None".

February 2006 Q&A with TOMMY THAYER
From: TommyThayer.com

Question: Whatever happened to the song "Promise The Moon" and are there other B 'N B tunes sitting around no one has released? -- Aimo Cale, El Cerrito, CA

ANSWER: That was a song that we recorded for the Nasty Nasty album that never made the final cut for the record. There was another tune called "Good & Evil" that was recorded when we did our first album. Both of these tunes are in the can somewhere and as far as I know, no plans for release anytime soon.

KISS Seeks Sweet Smell of Success
From: Women's Wear Daily

They paint their faces, wear leather and studs and have legions of faithful fans.

Now KISS, after more than three decades of heavy-metal music and outrageousness, plans to market two fragrances. How's that for a surprise?

The band inked a licensing deal with Gemini Cosmetics Thursday for both beauty and fragrances. The first products will be out in September: men's and women's scents.

"We thought about doing makeup," band co-founder PAUL STANLEY, the group's guitarist, joked in an interview. "But we weren't sure how many women would want to walk around with white-painted faces."

The deal, brokered by the band's management, Doc Mc Ghee Management, and its merchandise and licensing representative, Signatures Network, includes both fragrance and beauty products, with men's and women's scents launching first. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"It's been about 26 years since my last solo album. That's a big gap. There's a lot of catching up to do," he said.

Spotlight on GENE SIMMONS
From: immigration.about.com

Welcome to our second piece in our Musician Immigrants series, a developing collection of articles talking about those who left their homelands to experience a culture outside their own, making musical contributions that serve to enrich and inspire us.

It is safe to say that he probably has one of the longest tongues in the Rock Music Business - his trademark body part that can be seen on album covers as well as during live shows with the Hard Rock Band KISS, where he is playing bass and singing. But lyrics are not the only things that roll off his enormous "flesh carpet:" pyrotechniques (such as spitting fire) are a regular part of his performances, or, at elevations over 50 feet, he will often throw up blood all over the audience - acts that can compete with any circus.

Born Chaim Witz on August 25, 1949 in Haifa, one year after the proclamation of the state of Israel, Simmons was renamed "Eugene Klein" after immigrating to America in 1958. He then changed his name to GENE SIMMONS, maybe because he thought the name "Klein" inappropriate for his height (he is about 6'2") and the length of his tongue, since "Klein" means "little" in German.

GENE SIMMONS & INDY
From: Indiana Business Journal

On the heels of a week when IRL officials hired famed rock 'n' roller GENE SIMMONS to help sharpen the series' public image and announced retired NASCAR star Rusty Wallace will be the lead announcer on its national TV broadcasts, series honchos were still pondering why car count is declining, teams are folding, and sponsors are abandoning the open-wheel circuit.

With the hiring of Simmons and partner Richard Abramson, IRL officials hope to kick-start the series' popularity, especially with younger fans. Simmons seems like an odd choice, but Brown thinks he could be a strong addition.

"I've met GENE SIMMONS on several occasions and he's a fantastic businessman," Brown said. "If people can get beyond his image as a guy with his face painted, sticking out his tongue on stage, I think you'll see he's a very good and innovative marketer."

Message From Bruce
From: Kulick.net

Hello everyone! I know it has been a while since my last message about my journeys to Europe and Mexico. So I will start off with a photo from days before I left on the road. My parents had their 58th Anniversary! Amazing!! The Kulick Family took a nice photo, and those of you with elderly parents know what a blessing it can be when they are healthy. So it was a good holiday season for me to be home and spent some time with them.

My dog Joe took a great photo in his holiday outfit! Also check out his Hawaii outfit! What a poser he can be. Also some of you asked for a photo of the guitar I got for my birthday. So here it is. Thank you Guitar Center for a nice deal on a killer guitar.

ERIC SINGER: Setting A High Standard
From: Modern Drummer Magazine

"Realizing that this industry is a business and not about friends was probably the hardest thing to swallow," says drumming great ERIC SINGER. "Any time a band says there's musical or personality differences, it's usually about money."

ERIC SINGER has been around the block. Since 1984 he's played and toured with the likes of Lita Ford, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, Brian May, KISS, and many others, and he's currently on tour with Alice Cooper. "The impression is that I'm a mercenary and play anything for money," he says. "Truthfully, being a pro musician can be an emotional roller coaster. It's a very inconsistent lifestyle for the most part. Very few people make consistent, real money doing this."

With so many experiences and different gigs under his belt, it's no wonder Singer never stays unemployed for long. "I come in and give bands what they want," he says. "I've always brought professionalism to the show. It's not always about just playing the beats. It's about the day-to-day preparations and surviving the road so you can get up and play consistently. It's about being a quick study, and being on time and professional. Bringing a good vibe is important, too."
