The Coffee House Review Critics Forgot
From: Colette Shaw

I’ve read hundreds of reviews from the grand opening of the KISS Coffee House in Myrtle Beach, but I was surprised none of the reports mentioned what I considered the hallmark of the new digs. I agree with the masses who gave an A+ to the food, drinks and atmosphere. I loved the multimedia spectacle both inside and outside the café, and I must admit that the chocolate chip cookies tasted so delicious, I almost wept. But, after testing the official KISS coffee blends and drinking two gallons of water in order to stay hydrated during the 11-hour wait to meet GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY, I had one pressing question: How is the bathroom?

The ladies’ room in the KISS Coffee House is actually a unisex lavatory, identified by the Psycho Circus curtain painted on the door. Inside, a gigantic Creatures of the Night mural covers the wall closest to the toilet. The black light that illuminates the room exaggerates the glow-in-the-dark eyes of the painted band members. That image alone makes a trip to the loo worth the trip, but there’s more! A clear acrylic vanity encloses blood-red neon tube lighting, and the sink is adorned by an artsy silver faucet and water handle. Trés chic!

Most KISS fans I know are thoughtful and classy, but a few miss the mark, if you know what I mean. A few weeks ago, I had to buy a handheld black light to find spots of pee on my carpet when my cat was litter training. The KISS Coffee House followed my lead and predicted that some of the more animalized fans might call out the fire hose, but forget to lick it up when they finished their business. The black light on the ceiling helps an otherwise hard luck woman spot the love gun spray and destroy it before that shock me moment of late discovery. Bravo, KISS Coffee House!

Lights, Cameras, Coffee
From: Ry / Aztec Design & FX

It's the day after the KISS Coffeehouses's grand opening and I'm just exhausted...

So much happened yesterday it's difficult to pick a starting point. So, Let's just start here.

Fans started forming the wait line around 6:00 AM Tuesday morning. Many came prepared with Chairs, snacks and sunscreen while others came 'as-is' and intended to grunt it out through the sun, heat and rain. It's important to note this was a HUGE line and many waited for as long as 12 hours to get in...'I just didn't want to miss my chance' said one fan, ' You just don't get to meet Gene and Paul every day....'

KISS Guitarist Has Big Impact On Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament
From: KISSKollector

Last Sunday (June 25th), the third annual Shaun Micheel Make-A-Wish Golf Classic fund raiser taking place on June 25 and 26 in Memphis, Tennessee. Shaun Micheel himself informed KISS Kollector Online that they raised over $ 200,000 this year! Says Shaun: "Just a quick note to say how much of an impact Tommy had on the overall success of my 3rd Annual Make-a-Wish tournament. We raised over 200K this year and are able to help over 40 children make their ‘Wish’ come true. Tommy got up and played 7 or 8 songs with my good friend, and musician, Gerry Finney. We capped the party off with Rock And Roll All Night. No confetti, but a big hit nonetheless. My thanks are to GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY and ERIC SINGER for the signed guitar. I am grateful for their generosity."

Suit is Kissed off - Simmons, gal pal settle
From: New York Daily News

Rocker GENE SIMMONS can KISS and tell.

The heavy metal frontman settled a lawsuit by a former girlfriend who said he made her seem like a "sex-addicted nymphomaniac," his spokesman said yesterday.

But no money changed hands as part of the deal, Simmons spokesman Stan Rosenfield said. And the woman acknowledged that Simmons had no part in the production, editing, selection or inclusion of photos in the documentary that prompted her to sue.

Tommy In Golf Classic
From: KISSOnline

Tommy will appear as a featured guest at the 3rd Annual Shaun Micheel Make-A-Wish Golf Classic this Sunday and Monday, June 25th & 26th at Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Last year's event was a huge success, raising over $175,000 to help grant the wishes of children facing life-threatening medical conditions in the Mid-South. With the help of Tommy and KISS, who donated a signed PAUL STANLEY Sovereign guitar to be auctioned, this year's event stands to be a bigger success than last year. A huge KISS fan, Shaun sees as many KISS shows he can fit into his schedule and personally invited Tommy (who is an avid golfer) as his special guest to this year's event.

KISS Coffeehouse Soft Opening
From: Ry / Aztec Design & FX

At roughly 7:00 PM 6/24/06 the World's first KISS COFFEEHOUSE opened for business in Myrtle Beach, SC. While the official, "grand-opening" isn't till Tuesday, Staff and Mgt. ran the store through it's paces for the first time.

Fans are having a great time posing for photos out front while others are busy sampling the Coffeehouse's treats and delicious drinks. The stage-used costumes are getting a great deal of attention and have been placed on display in custom-lit road cases which were made by Anvil.

Hoards of fans are already in town for Tuesday's Grand opening and people were still rolling in as I was leaving close to midnight. I've never seen so many fans this excited in one place (Outside of a concert) and things are just warming up! In fact, I'm finding it more and more difficult to tear myself away as we get closer to Tuesday. It's just so easy to get wrapped up in the enthusiastic vibe that's surrounding this place...What a pleasure to talk with so many fans in one place. I can't wait to head back over Saturday! TOMMY THAYER Burrn Interview Part I & II
From: Burrn Magazine/KISSOnline

One of the great things about TOMMY THAYER is that he’s just not only in KISS but he’s also a huge KISS fan from way back when who can give you dates, times and places of historical KISS events without having to think about it and that is one of the things that makes this interview so enjoyable! Tommy is without a doubt a KISS historian and so was given as his first job in working for KISS to be the photo editor for the KISSTORY book. That job wasn’t much of a job to Tommy because he was honored to be asked to do such a thing! His passion runs so deep that he was the only logical choice to replace ACE FREHLEY in 2002. Of course, being able to play guitar, being in a KISS tribute band and knowing every KISS song didn’t hurt either!

Tommy is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He’s very laid back and great to talk to as his passion for KISS runs through his veins like raging river waters. He’s also open to talk just about anything and more instead of some occasional stock answers that you may get with Gene or Paul.

JH: We haven’t talked in a long time and I know you’ve been in the band what, three years now?

PAUL STANLEY added, "We just couldn't pass up an opportunity where we could play such a cool intimate show. This will be a lot of fun especially right after playing the big festivals in Japan!"

New Photo Gallery Of Coffeeshop Completion
From: Ry / Aztec Design & FX

It's official...the KISS Coffee House now dominates the corner of Celebrity Square at Broadway at the beach. This is clearly the most well designed and striking business at this popular tourist location. I can't stop myself from fawning...

When work began I had my doubts about the shop looking anything like the conceptual drawings we first saw. It was after all, a rather grand vision. All I can say is..."they've pulled it off and then some."

With all the signs, boots and lights in place, the Coffee Shop is causing a great deal of "KISS-LASH." You just can't take everything in at a glance. This business requires a second and third look over the shoulder before moving on.

FIRST LOOK...KISS Coffee House VIP Coffee Mug and Invitation

I just received my VIP KISS Coffee House cup/mug today. This mug is what is needed to meet with Gene and Paul "privately" during the grand opening of the KISS Coffee House in Myrtle Beach on June 27th, 2006. I was told that it is limited to 200 pieces.

PS: The spots in the photos are remnants of coffee beans and red confetti. This was packed loosely in the box, thus I first was afraid that the mug was broken!!

Hotel Floor Of KISS Décor

If you are a KISS fan – and are planning a trip to Chicago this summer; be sure to request the relatively unknown KISS floor at the Hard Rock Hotel at 230 North Michigan Avenue. Says Sean Yerzy, "I recently stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago. To my surprise when getting off at my floor, it couldn't have been better, the floor was dedicated to KISS; each floor has a different artist. There is the huge 1976 wall photo of the band and on the other side of the room are Paul and Genes' guitars in a fancy glass case!"

I suppose it might look odd if we were any place else. But, this is Myrtle beach and the site of the new KISS Coffee Shop where workers are putting the finishing touches on what's becoming a simply awe-inspiring building.

The giant Gene, demon boot arrived this morning and the construction team began the herculean task of unloading and securing this 1400 pound beast.

At days end the crew even had a chance to test the smoking nostrils and there are plans to light the boots eyes later in the week. (Click MORE for additional photos & story)

PAUL STANLEY Burrn Interview Part III
From: Burrn Magazine & KISSOnline

JH: In talking about songwriting you have written some killer songs. I remember something that EDDIE VAN HALEN told me once that the hardest thing to do was to write a hit song but you have written tons of hit songs.

PS: I have certainly written tons of popular songs. Whether or not they were hits in the classic sense of being a Top Ten on the radio, I’ve always tried to write songs that were accessible, that were memorable and familiar enough that by the second verse you could virtually sing along. I’ve always tried to write songs on an acoustic guitar because to me if it doesn’t sound great on one guitar it’s just not a great song. A great song is not about the arrangement, a great song is a great song. There is a lot of PINK FLOYD that is incredibly well-produced and very atmospheric and sonically brilliant but every one of those songs is a gem. To put it bluntly you can’t polish a turd (laughs). For me when I’m writing it’s got to sound great on one guitar, it’s got to sound great sitting in my house or wherever I’m writing or it’s not good. It can’t be written with the flaws in it with the plan that the flaws will be covered by gloss or production.

JH: JOHN KALODNER sort of said the same thing once when he listens to songs as an A & R man; he listens to them in his car. He says if it doesn’t sound good in your car it’s not going to sound good anywhere else.

Conviction upheld in death of former KISS guitarist's ex-wife
From: Associated Press

A man convicted of killing a call girl who was once married to former KISS guitarist VINNIE VINCENT had his appeal rejected Wednesday by the state Appellate Court.

Gregory McArthur, formerly of Hartford, maintained that two drug dealers were probably responsible for the slaying of AnnMarie Cusano in 1998.

On appeal, he argued there was not enough evidence to justify his manslaughter conviction, and that a judge improperly barred statements about one of the drug dealers from closing arguments.

KISS Kid Comes Through With First CD Release
From: angelo-coppola.com

Angelo Coppola, ten-year-old drumming boy wonder, will be releasing his first CD titled "Pound For Pound" in July ’06. Angelo first gained national attention on the TV show America’s Most Talented Kids. He performed "Rock & Roll All Nite" by KISS in full make-up and at only 8 yrs. old became one of the youngest winners ever. In 2005 Angelo gave a jaw dropping performance of KISS classics at the Chicago KISS Expo and was able to fulfill another dream of his by meeting his idol ERIC SINGER. Angelo still considers KISS to be his main musical influence. He even thanks the band and all three KISS drummers on the credits of his CD. Although Angelo’s incorporates many styles of rock on his debut, he admits that a couple of his songs have a KISS flavor to them. "I think Hit Em Hard and Still Got Rock & Roll are true rock anthems. I can hear my KISS influence best in those two songs." Angelo not only performs all of the drum tracks on the CD but also takes on all of the vocal chores as well. Angelo and his dad, Joe, wrote all of the songs on the disc. "Pound For Pound" also includes guest performances by Detroit blues guitarist Bob Halverson of the Bob Halverson Band and 14 yr. old bass ace Aaron Hayes of Rampage. You can listen to samples of the CD on:

www.angelo-coppola.com.

It will be available to the public in July.

Santa Fe Reporter Block Party
From: Santa Fe Reporter

You know it was an interesting night before when you arrive at work the next day to find blood spilled all over the office front stoop. Of course, in this case, last Thursday, it was fake blood, courtesy of Love Gun, Santa Fe's best'and only KISS cover band, who headlined the paper's third annual Block Party.

The thing about cover bands, especially KISS cover bands, is musicianship is essential. Oh sure, you can ride camp and irony and costuming for a bit, but if you ain't got the chops, all the wigs and PAUL STANLEY makeup in the world can't save you from lameness. Fortunately, Love Gun is built of a cadre of seasoned, sensational Santa Fe musicians Andy Primm (PAUL STANLEY), Mikey Baker (ACE FREHLEY), Peter Williams (GENE SIMMONS) and Ken Maestas (PETER CRISS) who nail every lick, fill and scream with perfect accuracy. Love Gun's ability to inhabit their roles comes second to their spot-on ability. Detroit Rock City and other classics pounded the ears of young and old alike as devil-horns-hands shot skyward.

And being able to take the musicianship for granted is great, because then the camp and the shtick get fun, as Primm proved by sauntering around in a skin-tight catsuit, as Baker dropped to his knees for guitar solos and Williams spewed blood down his bare chest. The theatrics much to the chagrin of some Reporter staff but to the delight of this writer culminated with a bit of pyrotechnic chicanery that almost caught the Reporter offices on fire. Rock on!

Message From Bruce
From: Kulick.net

Sorry it has been a while since my last posting. Lots to share with you all so let's begin with the big NY KISS Expo. I haven't been to one in a while, so it was great to meet the fans and play some guitar for them all. It was a great turnout. I featured some new photos, and besides taking photos with the fans and answering questions, of course playing live to my backing CD was tremendous. I did songs from Revenge and one from each of my solo discs, Audiodog and Transformer. As always, everyone had a great time. I love the East Coast, so thank you all for coming to see me at the Expo. I look forward to some more events this year.

A few weeks after that a band from Finland called LORDI won a huge award in Europe. They are big KISS fans and especially into the era of the 80's that I performed with KISS. I was contacted late last year to be included as a guest soloist on one of their songs. I heard they were popular, but now they are exploding! I played classic Revenge style licks on the track "It Snows In Hell", which I think is the next single from their new CD. So I will be getting some nice gold and platinum discs from the group. With technology these days, you don't have even meet the artist, they can just send you via the Internet the track to perform on, go to a studio, and email back! That is so unreal, but you would never know the difference. I hope to meet them in person soon and properly congratulate them. They certainly know how to rock in Finland!

Speaking of awards, I was proud to see KISS so prominently featured on the VH-1 Rock Honors program, where they performed as the closing act. For the record, I was not asked to participate and, truth be told, in the world of make-up only KISS I am not sure how I could quite fit in. It would have been great to jam with Ace, but I watched the show from my home. My comments... Happy for Ace to be out there with his Revenge style goatee jamming out on his Blue Sparkle Les Paul, Eric and Tommy for kicking some serious rock butt, Gene for spitting and gyrating like a 25 year old horny beast, and Paul for singing up a storm. KISS's pyro and bombs were over-the-top amazing and I sat watching in awe saying to myself, "I used to play with this band! Wow!"

He Still Had Stars In His Eyes
From: BURRN! Magazine/KISSOnline

"He Still Has Stars In His Eyes!" Interview by John "Shooter" Harrell

In the past GENE SIMMONS has described PAUL STANLEY as the ringmaster of KISS and that is not far from the truth. He is a total front man, dancing, prancing, performing high leg kicks and belting out every memorable KISS song you can imagine; total MR. ‘non-stop’ ENTERTAINMENT! So what is the trick to doing it for over 33 years? Passion, in a word, which seems to be the common denominator with all of the members of KISS. And how could it not be a passion, as it’s the greatest show on earth!

As Gene fills his plate with projects, marketing, merchandising, television shows and business opportunities, PAUL STANLEY has also been busy with his first solo album since 1978, a new wife, a baby on the way, painting and the release of several of his art paintings, actually all tributes to his original colleagues in KISS that fine-art prints are available from and if that is not enough in the last several months he has been recuperating from two hip replacement surgeries.

Interview With Gene Part II
From: KISSOnline

KOL: With so many band member changes over KISS' career, why do you think both you and Paul have always stuck it out and remained in the band?

GENE: Quite honestly, Paul and I don't always agree on musical changes, or choice of songs, but intrinsically and at the heart of it, Paul is simply the brother I never had. I feel closer to Paul, than anyone I know. I have almost no friends. On purpose. I prefer acquaintances. I don't expect anything from anyone and I don't want anyone coming to me with their problems. Everyone is a grown up. But, I digress. Paul and I live very close to each other and we don't see each other often. But, at the end, he knows I will always be in his corner, simply because I respect him.

KOL: TOMMY THAYER has been with KISS in one way or another for many years now, how do you view his many years with the band?

Ask Eric
From: KISSOnline

QUESTION: I've seen you in concert with KISS several times and I love your playing. My question is why do you play with only one bass drum now with KISS as opposed to when you played with them during the Revenge Tour or even recently with Alice Cooper? --- Jim Tarrier, Sydney, Australia

ANSWER (Eric): Thanx for the props! I choose many different drum kit set-ups depending on the situation or sometimes how I want to approach a gig. It really is about using what is needed for a particular band and music. I even use a little as 4 drums & 3 cymbals in some situations. With KISS I really decided back in 1995 on the Konvention/Unplugged shows that I wanted to rethink the way I was playing KISS songs and wanted to be more faithful to the original style of the band and songs. Part of this has to do with putting the music first and just trying to be a more mature player. I think we all know I can overplay if I choose to as I showed on Paul's solo tour in 1989! LOL

QUESTION: Eric, I recently read a great article on you in a UK Drum magazine, where Gene, Paul, Brian May and Alice Cooper all basically say you are one of the greatest rock drummers ever. When you started playing drums could you even imagine that these legends would ever talk about you that way or you would actually drum for four of your favorite artists - KISS, Queen, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath? --- James Moore, Birmingham, England

KISS Rocks On
From: Fashion Wire Daily

Ever wonder what GENE SIMMONS' sweat smells like? Us, neither. But all those diehard KISS fans out there - you know who you are - may soon get a chance to sample the sweet smell of rock excess when KISS releases their first-ever his-and-hers fragrance line this October.

And while the KISS scents do not contain actual band member sweat – as far as we know - they do contain a heady blend of black cumin, white pepper, dark rum, cypress, moss and honeyed amber blend (pour homme) and crushed red peppercorns, wet fig leaves, wild red poppy, musky bare skin accord, shiny patent leather and vintage mahogany (pour femme). And both the men's and women's scents and ancillary products - Party Shower Gel, Lovin' Body Lotion, Rockin' Bath Splash - also contain pheromones, which are said to increase libido and up one's sexual attraction factor.

The KISS men's fragrance will be packaged in shiny black patent-looking box featuring the band's signature flame red logo ("representing heat and passion," according to a spokesperson), while the ladies' scent is housed in a translucent glass bottle with a black KISS logo. Fans can choose from one of four bottle caps, each depicting a different band member's likeness.

Gene Interview Part I
From: KISSOnline

KOL: Congratulations on ROCK HONORS! Your performance, the tribute to KISS, backstage, everything about the event was great. Did everything go as smooth as it appeared?

GENE: There was an awkward moment at the end of ROCK HONORS. We had just finished playing Love Gun (after we did "Detroit Rock City" and "Deuce" ...which was cut from the show) and we were initially told to stand on stage and wait for Queen, Def Lep and Priest to join us for a closing of the show. Only problem was, the audience went nuts...and the hosts and TV people wanted us to do an encore. So, Paul walked up and said "Do you want to do another one?" and I said sure...and we went into "Makin’ Love", though we didn't rehearse it. The awkward moment had to do with the other bands being on stage with us for the end of the show...and then realizing that VH1 wanted us to play another tune. Hopefully, there were no bad feelings...it didn't seem so, at any rate.

KOL: Was it strange to you that Ace was in a tribute to KISS at ROCK HONORS?

Ask Gene
From: KISSOnline

QUESTION: Hi Gene!! You guys ruled Rock Honors. The show was awesome! Question for you...Though you've made it quite clear your not concerned with being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are you excited about being one of the first inductees in VH1 ROCK HONORS? --- Donald Evans, Fargo, ND

ANSWER (Gene): Rock Honors and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are OK...but honestly, they just don't mean as much as playing live and seeing the faces of the KISS Army. Everything begins and ends there. Awards are fine, but they're awarded by "The People Who Decide" those things. I like democracies. I like the fans voting. Either way, not an issue.

QUESTION: The ROCK HONORS reports and photos on KISSONLINE were great! Looked like everyone was having a ball. How was it backstage with the other bands and also seeing ACE? --- Jill Hunt, Austin, TX

The IRL's KISS method
Tips and tidbits from Hetrick Communications
From: GeneSimmons.com

We've all heard of the "K.I.S.S." philosophy - "Keep it simple, stupid." Now the Indy Racing League has introduced its own "KISS" method ... with a remarkably similar meaning.

Anyone who watched the build-up to the Indianapolis 500 should know that the IRL has hired tongue-wagging rock 'n' roll front man GENE SIMMONS to promote the league.

If you're not well-versed in the world of face-painting rock stars, Simmons co-founded the rock band KISS. Three decades later, it remains one of the world's top-grossing concert bands.

ERIC SINGER Comments On Rock Honors
From: KISSOnline

I was of course a bit frazzled the past few days after a crazy week of highs and more highs !! That Rock Honors event was so surreal in many ways for sure. So many great bands & musicians under one roof! Getting to share the stage with people/bands that have influenced me so greatly was a personal honor.

And how about the drummers? Tommy Lee, Roger Taylor, Dave Grohl, Scott Travis, Taylor Hawkins, Shannon Larkin, Rick Allen!! That was an honor in itself to share the stage with all of them.

I want to thank all the bands for being so kool to each other for this event. Ego's seemed to be checked at the door. Great to have some time to hang a bit with Brian May and catch up as well.

Lastly thank you to all the KISS fans who showed us yet again why you are the best fans ever! This was an honor for you as well.
