Gene At Fort Bragg
From: KISSOnline

During this holiday season, let's not forget all of the brave members of the Armed Forces stationed throughout the world. Please remember their daily sacrifices on our behalf!

In honor of the troops, we present a pictorial from Gene's October visit to Ft. Bragg. Known as the "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces". Fort Bragg houses the 82nd Airborne Division and the XVIII Airborne Corps. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command and the U.S. Army Parachute Team (the Golden Knights) also call Fort Bragg home.

The first set of photos is from Gene's first stop upon arriving at Ft. Bragg - the base Hospital. There he visited with several injured soldiers and their families. Gene thanked each of the soldiers for "all that they do" and wished them well. He made it quite clear how he feels about them and how special they are to him and KISS. The meetings were filled with lots of laughs and hugs. One soldier made Gene a little nervous when he tried to remove his own IV so that he could put on the KISS shirt Gene had given him.

GENE SIMMONS' Family Jewels DVD Offers Audio Treat
From: KISS FAQ

People receiving the deluxe editon of season one of GENE SIMMONS "Family Jewels" are receiving an audio treat. The package includes a bonus CD with two songs expected to be featured on Gene's "MONSTER: THE GENE SIMMONS BOX SET." The version of "You're My Reason For Living" varies slightly from that released in 2003 on Gene's "Sex Money KISS" audio book lunch box and Japanese version of "Asshole." While it has more prominent drums, it lacks some of the electric guitar over-dubs and is 17 seconds longer, though most of that is the result of a longer fade-out.

The second song is previously unreleased. "Rain Keeps Fallin'" is previously known as a song Gene demoed with members of Silent Rage around 1991. Several different lyrical versions of the song exist. Most interesting, perhaps, the riff at the start of this song can also be heard in a studio jam session with Dutch rockers Sleeze Beeze from around 1990/1 where Gene was working with the band on using his "Daily Planet" riff. They'd come up with the song "Jealous Woman" from the efforts, though the band didn't use it. This is a great example of Gene and his creativity. "Rain Keeps Fallin'" was being developed during the COS sessions, with one September 1993 re-write being known with interesting lyrics such as "Burning crosses in my own back yard" and "My name's on a cool headstone with a pretty rose."

Simmons Laments Lost Burger-Flipping Life
From: Contact Music & GeneSimmons.com

KISS bassist GENE SIMMONS is convinced he and fellow rocker SIR MICK JAGGER would have ended up flipping burgers in a fast food restaurant if they hadn't become successful musicians. The 57-year-old rocker believes today's biggest music stars don't have the talent for any decent back-up careers. He says, "They'd (ROLLING STONES) probably now be asking you if you want fries with that. That includes Jagger and myself. "Classical musicians are real musicians, the rest of us are lazy entertainers who never took time to learn how to play our instruments properly and can't read or write music."

Response from Gene:

Not entirely what I meant. While it's true I believe most entertainers have little qualification to do anything else in life, Jagger is a graduate, I'm told, of a London Economic School...and I hold a BA in Education...which meant I taught 6th grade, among other jobs. While the article was meant to make a point, and didn't really apply to Jagger or myself, I still stand by the general notion about most entertainers

Zachary Loves KISS
From: KISSOnline

Zachary Walker Lee Johnson, my son, was born on October 16, 2001 in Texas. Problems began to arise when Zachary began violent fits of rage and constant headbutting at the age of 10 months old. Being the concerned parent we were,we took Zachary to doctors everytime this happened, in which was frequent. We were told by all the doctors this is normal behavior. As Zachary became older, the violent fits of rage and headbutting worsened with the endangerment on his life. We were still ignored by doctors for being concerned for my son. When Zachary was 3 yrs old, he finally had a doctor who was concerned for him just as much as Lee and myself. Finally all the right specialists were seen and Zachary was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism. Zachary's violent seizures continued and medications were given. On August 6, 2006, Zachary's first MRI results were in. The conclusion to the mystery of what has bothered Zachary for the past 5 years ended with the doctor explaining to me that my little boy was born with 9 tumors on the right frontal lobe of his brain. This is very rare and surgery can take place but with the most capable hands.

Zachary's obsession with the 70's rock band "KISS" began when he was 2 yrs old. At first I believed he saw them as the cartoons characters in my brother in law's room. Gradually, he learned more and more about this legendary rock band. His mind absorbed everything about KISS like a sponge, including every song that they sang. His fourth birthday had to be KISS and we spent more money on a cake than we normally would. Zachary is now 5 and his last birthday was spent at Chuck E Cheese's and KISS was the theme. Not only did we have the cake, but toys and a backpack were included. If I were to describe my son to anyone, I would say he is a child of the 70's. Not only does he love this band, he actually believes they are on tour today and you can buy a KISS toy for him at your local WalMart. Today, if you were to name a title of any KISS song and ask Zachary who sings the lead vocals, he could tell you correctly. Zachary knows the names of the original four, what instruments they play, and their stage moves. Believe it or not, he can immitate Paul and Gene perfectly. This past Halloween, Zachary was Star Child. Star Child made an appearance at our local mall, entered a costume contest and WON!!

On January 9, 2007, Zachary will be going to Texas Children's Hospital to seek further treatment from a pedi neurosurgeon. There is talk he may have many surgeries before it's over and my husband and I are terrified for our son. We decided to leave it up to God when there is nothing left to do or no calls to make. Until then, Zachary continues to suffer from seizures, violent spells, and blackouts on a daily or nightly basis because the medication is no longer working. Please keep us in your prayers.

Thank You,
Kristen Johnson

'MY parents were always a little concerned about me," says Mark Sawatzky about his childhood.

"I mean, there's something definitely weird about a little kid walking around singing "Put your hand in my pocket and grab onto my rocket..."

Sawatzky was four years old in 1977, the year his older sister brought home a copy of Alive II by storied rock band KISS. Sharon, Lois and Bram never stood a chance. By the time Sawatzky reached grade school, the Elmwood youth was spending his entire allowance on records, T-shirts, bubble gum cards: anything he could turn up featuring the group's trademark image.

Ask Tommy
From: KISSOnline

QUESTION: Hi Tommy, How are you? Myself - I am having KISS withdrawals!! What have you been up to since KISS last played in the summer? Do you see your band mates when your off the road? Best --- James Nichols, Boise, Idaho

ANSWER (Tommy): I stay busy with KISS oriented projects; the main one in the past year has been KISSOLOGY. There's always enough going on in the world of KISS, and particularly new developing projects that I keep an eye on, to stay busy when KISS isn't touring. I see the guys regularly, although everybody's busy with a million different things.

QUESTION: Hey Tommy, I'd like to know if you had a chance to see Paul play on the LIVE TO WIN Tour. If so, what did you think of the show? I caught 3 shows myself and I have to tell you I was very impressed with Paul and the band. --- Rich Madden, Tempe, Arizona

Photo in the News: Bat Has Longest Tongue of Any Mammal
From: National Geographic News

It's enough to give GENE SIMMONS (inset) appendage envy. Despite a '70s rock rumor, the KISS bassist did not have his tongue surgically replaced with a cow's. But could Anoura fistulata tempt him to go batty?

A. fistulata (shown lapping sugar water from a tube) has the longest tongue, relative to body length, of any mammal—and now scientists think they know why.

"This bat was just discovered last year, and now we've observed a very unique relationship with a local flower," said Nathan Muchhala, a University of Miami Ph.D. student whose team's findings are to be published tomorrow in the journal Nature.

Bruce's Studio Blog
From: Kulick.net

GREAT to finally start with my new solo disc! After writing songs since the end of 2003, I have officially started the recording on my third CD, which for now I will just refer to as BK 3. More on the title later.

Brent Fitz, straight off the road from a Theory of a Deadman tour, drove from Vegas to LA on Saturday night. Since his drums did not clear customs yet we asked ERIC SINGER if we could grab some drums for the session. Very cool of Eric to help out with some of his gear for the recording and I will be doing some tracks with Eric later in the month.

We started early on Sunday getting things set up and fine tuning the drums. Brian Virtue is my engineering wiz that I have been working with lately, and of course my co-producer Jeremy Rubolino was there, and they were getting amazing drum tones from the kit. Brent was a trooper, working hard as it took about 4 hours to get the tones right, and then we plowed into cutting drum tracks. We only needed him to play along with the Pro Tool sessions as Jeremy and I did very developed demos for the songs.

From Alice Cooper To KISS, Derek Sherinian Has Played Alongside The Gods Of Heavy Metal
From: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Derek Sherinian's bio reads like every young rock 'n' roller's ultimate fantasy.

Born and raised in Santa Cruz and a graduate of Soquel High School, Sherinian began playing piano at age 5. When he heard Elton John at an early age, he knew he wanted to explore the more theatrical side of piano playing and naturally started listening to rock. He was offered a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston, which he attended immediately after finishing high school.

And that's when the fates intervened. While there, he met and jammed with the likes of Will Calhoun who would go on to play drums with Living Colour and became close friends with Al Pitrelli. After a year at Berklee, he headed back out West to make it big in Los Angeles. His talents soon landed him a gig with legendary R&B drummer Buddy Miles, who hired him to tour clubs across the nation.

PAUL STANLEY Lives To Win
From: LiveDaily

In the world of KISS (music), there's no such thing as too much. While that line of thinking has served the band well for more than three decades, frontman PAUL STANLEY (music) isn't afraid to admit that sometimes, less can be more.

Such is the case with his latest release, "Live to Win," his first solo album since the eponymous KISS solo efforts were issued in 1978. Absent is the bombast, pomp and pageantry that marks his full-time band. Present are the sweeping choruses and lavish songwriting that marked the band's more memorable late-'80s and early-'90s moments, as well as Stanley's signature vocal tone and unmistakable style.

Why "Live to Win," and why now? PAUL STANLEY sat down with LiveDaily to delve deeper into the new release.
