Bill Baker is back with his first update of 2008!

Seeing as it was a New Year, we decided to give the site a new look. Hope everyone out there likes the new design! http://www.theacefrehleyarchive.com/

So what’s new on our planet? The all new Fractured Mirror 2 disc DVD set. This set covers all the eras of the world's only ACE FREHLEY tribute band from the beginning up to the last show. We went through all of the video we had, and picked out quite a variety of songs and clips. It also shows the ACE FREHLEY Archives museum that was featured at many of the 90's KISS Expos, rare rehearsal footage of Fractured Mirror and unreleased ACE FREHLEY concert footage that came direct from Bill Baker's Archives. A must for any Ace fan!

From: IDW/Simmons Comic Group
Written by: Tom Waltz
Art By: Casey Maloney, Marc Rueda
Reviewed by Tim Janson

Created by KISS bassist, GENE SIMMONS, Zipper is the epitome of a "stranger in a strange land" story (with apologies to Robert heinlein). Xeng Ral has fled from his world where individuality is non-existent and all its beings are a part of a great collective. He refused to conform and give up his free will, escaping to Earth and to the city of Detroit. Xeng Ral’s Exo suit gives him the ability to cloak his appearance so he can pass for human, as well as being able to translate any language, not to mention imparting various physical abilities such as enhanced strength and speed. In the first two issues he has befriended a small-time crook named Ronnie and a Detroit Detective.

Xeng’s race, the Etherians, have tracked him to Earth and set four hunters on his trail. They are intent on bringing Xeng back so their collective can be made whole again. The result is an all out war on Detroit’s streets with Ronnie and Detective Maki caught in the middle of the fight between the aliens. There is also a slowly developing subplot regarding a Los Angeles minister who has had visions of Earth being invaded by an alien race and he is gathering an army of followers to combat them.

The Artist Currently Known As PAUL STANLEY Raise your hand if you grew up a huge fan of the band KISS. Yeah, me too.Kiss is the reason many of us musicians started playing an instrument. We were into KISS…maybe too much. Well, their old music still holds up to my ears, so I jumped at the chance to interview PAUL STANLEY. Paul comes to New Jersey Feb. 8th and 9th without his fire-breathing buddy, GENE SIMMONS. Paul has an art exhibit at Wentworth Gallery, 171 Riverside Square Mall, Hackensack • 201-488-7661, Feb. 8th, and at Wentworth Gallery, Short Hills Mall, 1200 Morris Tpke, Short Hills • 973-564-9776, Feb. 9th.

Dan Lorenzo: You went to high school for Music and Art. Why did you wait so long to start doing something with your artwork?

PAUL STANLEY: Well, I’ve always been involved in different forms of art. Really what happened was, I kind of soured on art because I enjoy doing things of my own volition, you know, my own decision. When people are telling me what they expect, and what their deadlines are.....structuring too much takes the fun out of it. I don’t mind working seven days a week, but it has to be by my own decision. I don’t like to work up to other people’s ideas or expectations, so I kind of veered away from art. It sounds very good that I went to The High School of Music & Art, but I actually failed Art.

PAUL STANLEY, the multitalented artist and legendary front man for the iconic group KISS, announced today that he will appear on the upcoming Sarah Brightman album, 'Symphony' (Manhattan Records), slated to be released in the United States on January 29, 2008.

Stanley, who in addition to his songwriting and performing responsibilities for KISS, is an accomplished solo artist, painter and stage performer, collaborated with Brightman on the duet "I Will Be with You (Where the Lost Ones Go)" off the forthcoming album 'Symphony.' Interestingly, both are "Phantom of the Opera" alums with Brightman having originated the role of Christine Daae in the Andrew Lloyd Webber production and Stanley who received rave reviews for his portrayal of The Phantom in the Toronto stage version.

'As a fan of Sarah's stage, recording and concert work, I was immediately intrigued with the potential of what our voices together might create,' said Stanley. 'We were both really pleased with how our duet turned out and performing live together is a real possibility.'

Click to enlarge Gene Defends His Decisions On Celebrity Apprentice
From: GeneSimmons.com

Posted: January 20, 2008

Well, this Apprentice story just keeps on going. We've gotten truck loads of your emails and I must admit to being humbled by your overwhelming support of my decisions on the show. I must admit to you all that, although it means the world to me that you supported my decisions, I would have made those same decisions if every single one of you panned me for it. And, here's why. I believe you have to stand by your convictions. If you are qualified to make an assessment (and this statement is difficult to qualify and quantify, I will grant you), AND I AM!!! And, if you are convinced it's the right one -- first, listen to other arguments and then make a decision.

And, stand by it.

If you watched the Apprentice, you will notice the first thing I did, was open up the "challenge" to a discussion -- a "think tank", if you will. After I heard all the variable ideas, as team leader, I was given the responsibility of making decisions. And, that's what I did.

No one else chose to ignore the "ink at half the price" (an idiotic marketing idea, if ever there was one -- pardon me, Kodak). I did!!! It was my decision. Therefore, if the execs thought based on not emphasizing "ink" in our campaign cost us the contest, THEN ONLY I SHOULD BE FIRED.

My decision, and I still stand by it, is to position KODAK as a worldwide brand (hence the "World" in the positioning phrase) and to MAKE YOU FEEL SOMETHING...not load you down with details you will not remember or care about after you read something they want you to know about (...) "Ink." . AT HALF THE PRICE...??

Ultimately, I thought it was a huge mistake to make KODAK appear like a DISCOUNT COMPANY.

Posted: January 12, 2008

You are going to see the name "GENE SIMMONS" quite a bit on this list. No, it’s not a mistake.

You see, while other comic critics’ lists will have maybe one or two superhero books, they are all usually filed with one-shots or graphic novels, all drawn "stick-figure"-style and feature plots about young women who are Tori Amos fans, cut themselves and ruminate non-stop about how much they hate George Bush.

And let’s not even get into the ones with titles like MALIK TRIUMPHANT: AN ORPHAN’S JOURNEY OUT OF DARFUR.

No one honestly "enjoys" reading those types of comics. Critics feel like they have to put them on their lists because they are "important," in their never-ending quest to find the next MAUS. With SERIOUS ISSUES, I say "screw that." I read comics for fun. Yes, fun.

So, in accordance with that ideal, why wouldn’t my year-end list be made up of comics that I thoroughly enjoyed? These are issues and story arcs that brought me a great deal of pleasure, and while they are in no danger of winning a Pulitzer (or even possibly an Eisner), they earned something even better: my hard-earned dollar.

And if I know GENE SIMMONS, that’s all he wants anyway …

Rock icon and reality star GENE SIMMONS has a tremendous effect on women. By his own count, he claims to have slept with more than 4800 women. Nowadays, however, it seems the ladies have set their eyes on another Simmons, and it's none other than Nick Tweed-Simmons, Gene's teenage son.

"Nick has usurped my throne, as the alpha-male of all alpha-males," GENE SIMMONS, who stars in A&E's GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels, told an Australian publication called The Advertiser. "So when I'm in public and the girls run over and I'm thinking to myself, 'Simmons, you devil you've still got it'. And you know when they giggle? [That's when] I'm thinking, 'Yeah babe, I've still got it' and they go: 'Where's Nick?'"

GENE SIMMONS and his long-time partner Shannon Tweed don't have to worry about Nick misbehaving, however. As seen on Family Jewels, Nick and sister Sophie Tweed-Simmons are polite, intelligent and well-behaved, positive traits that their 58-year-old father takes credit for.

From: Metal-Rules.com

Posted: January 6, 2008

Legendary drummer ERIC SINGER first rose to fame playing drums on LITA FORD's DANCIN' ON THE EDGE tour back in 1984. Subsequently he joined up with Tony Iommi and played on two classic BLACK SABBATH albums, SEVENTH STAR in 1986 and THE ETERNAL IDOL the following year. Thereupon he toured the world with Gary Moore before reuniting with his old Black Sabbath colleague Ray Gillen in Badlands. In quick succession he hooked up with Alice Cooper for some touring before stepping in to replace the ailing ERIC CARR in KISS and proceeding to record the classic REVENGE album in 1992 and the follow up CARNIVAL OF SOULS in 1997 as well as the live albums ALIVE III in 1993 and MTV UNPLUGGED in 1996. More recently he has, in addition to touring with both KISS and ALICE COOPER, appeared on Alice's BRUTAL PLANET album in 2000 and THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER album in 2003. He has also toured and put out albums with ESP (ERIC SINGER Project) and worked with Tobias Sammet’s Avantasia, Gilby Clarke and that's not all... read all about it in this forthright interview.

You're now once again on tour with ALICE COOPER. You first played with Alice on the "Trash" world tour back in 1990, how did that come about?

Click to enlarge KISS Guitarist Frehley To Play Solo Show At Seneca Niagara
From: The Buffalo News

Posted: January 6, 2008

ACE FREHLEY, legendary original lead guitarist with New York City glam rockers KISS, will make a rare Western New York appearance as a solo artist when he brings his band to the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel on Feb 29. The show was announced this afternoon in a release from the casino.

Frehley, whose "Space Ace" persona during his KISS tenure made him the hero to a few generations of guitarists-in-waiting, will perform inside the Seneca Niagara's intimate Bear's Den. During the performance, the guitarist and his band will debut tunes from a forthcoming album, Frehley's first outside of the confines of KISS in nearly 20 years.

Tickets for the event -- which, considering the size of both the venue and the Frehley mythos, are sure to vanish quickly -- will go on sale at noon Monday. They're priced $30 and will be available at the Eight Clans Gift Shop in the casino, all Ticketmaster locations, through www.Ticketmaster.com or by calling 852-5000.

Though we all love Stephen Baldwin, Marilu Henner and Tito Ortiz, our favorite contestant from NBC’s Donald Trump-hosted Celebrity Apprentice has got to be the Demon himself, GENE SIMMONS. Each week, we’ll be tracking the KISS frontman’s progress and rating him based on one of his band’s legendary albums.

This Week’s Task: Trump charges the two teams (one male, one female) with selling hot dogs on the streets of New York. Much sniping and phallic humor ensues. Simmons’ Contribution: After naming his team "Hydra," the Demon got to work calling his famous friends (including bandmate PAUL STANLEY) in an attempt to get them to pay ridiculous amounts of money for frankfurters, all while spouting typical Simmons-esque philosophy and calling himself a vacuum cleaner salesman (see video, below).

I got married just a few months ago, and being a lifelong KISS fan, my wife surprised me with a KISS lunch box groom's cake. Since i had the original lunchbox when i was in kindergarten, this made the perfect wedding present. I got to top it off when Paul signed the picture and posed with us for some pictures at the Wentworth Gallery on Long Island. Paul did happen to like the cake. Paul was very cordial and spent a few quality minutes with us. I look forward to enjoying the painting and look forward to getting another one. Being a KISS fan for 28 years, this day was one of my KISS highlights.

Whether you love or hate the guy, GENE SIMMONS is impossible to ignore and the previews for next week hinted at the ever-so-cool rocker having a run-in with Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka. Whatever the outcome of that is, Trump will do well to keep Simmons around for the long haul.

GENE SIMMONS: KISS Frontman / Entrepreneur

GENE SIMMONS was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1949 and is the only child of his mother, a German Nazi concentration camp survivor. He has always attributed his ethics, morals and drive to his mother's notion's about life. "Every day above ground, is a good day," his mother is apt to say. Every day above ground, indeed.

PAUL STANLEY, singer and guitarist with hard rock band KISS, has found a different form of therapy than the typical rock 'n roll staples keeps him grounded -- art.

Stanley, 55, an art major and graduate, returned to painting about seven years ago, finding a strong demand for his work which goes on show at the Wentworth Gallery Garden City in New York on Jan 4.

Stanley spoke to Reuters about his art and music, speaking softly and pausing to think through his answers in stark contrast to his brash, on-stage persona "The Starchild:"

From: KISSAsylum

Posted: January 3, 2008

I've been a KISS fan since 1976 when my older sister put KISS Alive! on my little record player. When I heard Ace was coming to the Norva, I bought tickets the first day they were available. After a local band played for about 20 minutes, Jam Pain Society came on. Not bad, but definitely not what the crowd was there to see. Ace came out and tore into Rip It Out. The band was tight, and everyone on stage seemed to be having a good time. Ace cracked a few jokes, mentioned the Tiger attack, and thanked the military for their service. He introduced Break Out as "A song that me and ERIC CARR wrote".

During his solo at the end of Shock Me, something happened to his Les Paul. A loud crack was heard through the PA, and then a loop of feedback kept repeating itself until Ace walked to the side of the stage and came back with a different guitar. He joked about fucking the guitar up, and then launched right back into the solo as if nothing happened. Love Gun was awesome with his drummer taking the lead vocal. Ace had the crowd singing "Back in the Norfolk Groove". Overall a great show with some classic KISS, as well as classic Ace material. I look forward to his solo album.

Click to enlarge PETER CRISS' New Years Resolution
From: Associated Press

What do Yogi Berra, the archbishop of Newark, the drummer from the rock group KISS and Miss New Jersey have in common? They're among prominent New Jerseyans who are making resolutions for the new year.

Living the quiet life at the Jersey Shore, former KISS drummer PETER CRISS vows "to practice what I preach next year."

"I have a big mouth for a lot of people, but I never take my own advice and do it myself," said Criss, who lives in Wall Township and is best known for the ballad "Beth" and his cat makeup. "Kids will come up to me, young drummers, and ask me for advice, and I tell them, 'Keep playing, keep practicing, it's about the music, not about the money. Hopefully the money will come later,' and not to get stressed about it. I need to do that, too."

Click to enlarge How GENE SIMMONS Became A TV Apprentice
From: Chicago Sun-Times

Posted: January 1, 2008

Five Qs: It all started when Donald Trump asked 'Hey, you want to do the show?'

Is a rocker smart enough to be "The Celebrity Apprentice"? KISS frontman GENE SIMMONS says you should never be too sure. "I think it's fair to say that if it wasn't for the guitar hanging around their necks, many rockers would probably be asking the next person in line if they'd like some fries with that," he opines.

Even so, Simmons joins up for the next installment of "The Apprentice," debuting Jan. 3 on NBC, where celebs try to win $1 million for their charity. How cutthroat was it? Simmons says it wasn't for the faint of heart. "I can't be specific, but the truth is that there was literally more than one doctor that was brought onto the set because of the physical exhaustion."

He's a painter who believes in art's cathartic power, its ability to communicate with viewers and its uncanny habit of revealing hidden facets of the painter himself.

"Pretty heady stuff for a rock and roller," he admits.

The artist is PAUL STANLEY -- that's right, the guitarist from KISS. For much of his life, the only thing he painted was a black star over his right eye, but in recent years he's been putting brush to canvas and selling his works for as much as $60,000 apiece. He's appearing and exhibiting his work Friday and Saturday at the Wentworth Gallery at Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City.
