Overlooking the Willamette River, where the partygoers mingle and banana trees sway in a soft breeze, the stage is set for more than just the typical Lake Oswego gala.

At the adobe-styled house of Roger Pollock, owner of Buena Vista Custom Homes, guests pay handsomely to attend the buffet and auction.

From: TrendHunter.com

Posted: September 24, 2008

KISS frontman and long tongue possessor GENE SIMMONS has launched a line of leather handbags to follow up the ‘KISS Kasket.’ The collection is called Money Bags and is accented with a logo depicting, as the title suggests, bags of money with an embossed dollar sign .

GENE SIMMONS’ masculine leather handbag collection includes a duffle bag for $700 that is meant to "...be filled with bundles of loot and stashed away in the hull of a catamaran, until the money can be spent on watching the sunset and drinking rum for years on end," says the store’s item descriptions. There is also a stylish Vegas Size Messenger Bag and a larger Monte Carlo Size Messenger Bag.

Considering Simmons’ extravagant rock ‘n roll reputation, the bags are extremely marketable and classic looking.

The Money Bags collection also includes t-shirts, wallets, belts and hats.

One of the more well-produced KISS Tribute CDs of recent times. KISS MY ANKH takes us on a musical retrospective of KISS Guitarist VINNIE VINCENT's past fabulous career, with and without KISS.

Some surprising elements of this 11 track disc include the unexpected female lead vocals on Lick it Up, the guitar riffs of Makin' Love fused seamlessly with the vocals of Killer, (absolutely awesome), and a must-hear parody of Unholy.

A long overdue tribute to the man who shaped the KISS sound of the early '80s and beyond.

2. I Still Love You - Gods of Fire
3. Lick It Up - Future 86
4. A Million To One - Steve Brown

Members of one of rock’s legendary bands visited Portland Thursday night, showing that their hearts are just as big as their reputation.

Several members of the band KISS appeared on behalf of their friend Jeff Young, who has lived with ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, for nearly 25 years. Young is one of the longest living survivors of the illness.

"This is proof positive that Portland isn't just a nice place to live in, but it actually has nice people," said GENE SIMMONS, longtime leader of KISS. "Everybody here has come with big fat wallets full of cash and we're going to relieve them of all that money and actually do some good."

A support group called "Friends of Jeff" organized the benefit auction, dinner and concert in Lake Oswego.

Click to enlarge GENE SIMMONS Becomes "Emperor" Of Japan
From: Spinner

Posted: September 18, 2008

Makeup and role play isn't out of the ordinary for GENE SIMMONS. That said, it only seems fitting that the KISS bassist makes a cameo in Japan's No. 2 box office hit, 'Detroit Metal City,' as Jack Ill Dark, a legendary American death metal guitarist who holds the title "The Emperor."

Simmons flew to Japan last March for five days of shooting after director Toshio Lee tracked the rocker down with the help of Sony Music Japan. "He was a complete professional," Lee tells Spinner with the aid of an English-speaking translator. "He didn't even want to rest. He said, 'I'm here for business.'"

At first, Lee and Simmons communicated through an interpreter, but Lee soon just started showing him physically what to do. "[Gene would say] 'Let me see that one more time so I can really master it,'" Lee says. When Lee screwed up, Simmons responded promptly: "That's not the same thing you did the first time." "He was really watching and very attentive," Lee says.

As for the character's attire, Simmons wears an outlandish horned costume with most of his face hidden under a mask. And yes, even his guitar has spikes. The rocker utters a few English lines, including "Command the beast" and "You're still wet behind the ears."

"It would be weird if he spoke Japanese," Lee says. "He had to speak in English. He's the king."

The Dayton KISS Fan Expo returns on Oct. 11 with a Tribute to PAUL STANLEY!! To celebrate the October release of Paul's concert DVD, 'ONE LIVE KISS', the Dayton KISS Expo will honor Paul throughout the day!

And what better way to honor our main man then to show his amazing new concert film, 'ONE LVE KISS'! PAUL STANLEY has authorized a special preview screening of his new concert movie, ‘PAUL STANLEY* ONE LIVE KISS’ for this Expo event. The feature length movie was shot during Paul’s sold out ‘Live To Win’ solo tour of America in 2006, capturing the power and intensity of Paul’s legendary songwriting and showmanship at full throttle! The movie will be shown in its entirety, in High Definition on a large screen.

Director Louis Antonelli will introduce the screening, and do a Q&A with the audience following the movie. Antonelli recently told KOL, " These fullscreenings of the movie are very special, they will give fans a chance to see this highly anticipated film in a unique, entertaining way! In the past when we have done previews of scenes from the film it was great because fans felt like they were at the concert right in the front row singing along with Paul, cheering, and doing their all to SHOUT IT OUT LOUD! Seeing the movie like that with a packed house of the great KISS ARMY is a very immediate ‘live’ experience! I’ve had fans tell me many times now that watching the movie that way made everyone feel Paul was right in the room rocking with them!"

Was happy to lend a hand to the powerful and attractive BRUCE KULICK, who is in the midst of his solo record.

Bruce, as you all know, was lead axe grinder in KISS for many years. He's now playing with Grand Funk Railroad. My son, Nick recently went to one of the gigs and came back raving about it.

Anyway, Bruce and I wrote a toon called 'AIN'T GONNA DIE' -- pretty cool stuff. The songwriting happened very fast. We sat around the house and came up with chord patterns and the basic melody came to me almost immediately.

From: KISSasylum.com
Posted: September 12, 2008

One of the most interesting, bizarre and exciting events in the history of KISS was when they were invited by the city of Cadillac Michigan to play at the High Schools homecoming. KISS was first greeted by the mayor and city officials and given the key to the city. They then paraded down the street on a KISS float to the football game to lend their support to the team. The most interesting record of this event was the schools year book from 1976. There are no less than 17 pages with KISS related photos throughout the book.

From the size of the graduating class of this High School, there couldn't have been more than 400 of these books ever produced; most of which are still with the original owners. There are not many of these in circulation and are one of the hardest collectibles to come by.

Danger Danger frontman Ted Poley recently spoke with SplitScreen Entertainment about his first encounters with KISS legends GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY. Whereas his meeting with Gene ended up costing him a few bucks, his encounter with Paul provided the inspiration for the new song "Ted Poley," as featured on the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To VINNIE VINCENT." A parody of "Unholy" by Vincent and Simmons, the song has been reworked by rock & roll comic C.C. Banana as a good-natured roast of the veteran rock singer. The 2008 PIHA Southeast division champions, South Carolina Pirates finally got to bring the championship cup to the KISS COFFEEHOUSE, Saturday, September 6th to get their picture with their sponsors and owner. The added bonus to the members of the team was that KISS lead guitarist TOMMY THAYER was there to celebrate the second anniversary of the COFFEEHOUSE. "Getting to see TOMMY THAYER and have our picture taken with the 2008 Southeast division championship trophy, The COFFEEHOUSE management and ownership is a huge honor", Doug Jones, General Manager of the team said. "We appreciate their sponsorship and support all season. We consider them a part of our team." Jones finished.

KISS COFFEEHOUSE, sponsored "Name that KISS tune" in which contestants were picked during the intermission and challenged to name the KISS tune that was being played. The contest ran for the entire homestand of the Pirates sixteen games played at SportsZone arena in Little River. Winners received a KISS COFFEEHOUSE travel mug and a bag of KISS COFFEE. The manager of the KISS COFFEEHOUSE, Debra, also attended several Pirates games and supported the team in their endeavors. As the fire-spitting front man for the rock band KISS, GENE SIMMONS has put on his kabuki make-up and donned his platform dragon boots for the past 35 years. But for Simmons, KISS is just, well, his night job. Born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel, Simmons came to America as an eight-year-old boy and says he has been living the American Dream ever since. Known for both his music and his business acumen, he's the force behind thousands of licensed KISS products and numerous ventures, including his discontinued magazine GENE SIMMONS' Tongue, Simmons Records, clothing line Moneybag, and the brand marketing firm Simmons Abramson Marketing, the outfit behind the "I Am Indy" Campaign. He's also continuing to keep his brand in the public spotlight: His reality TV show GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels is coming back for a fourth season on A&E, he has a new reality show called Jingles on tap, and in July he released his tome on prostitution, Ladies of the Night.

Simmons recently spoke with staff writer Stacy Perman about entrepreneurship, failure, and all things GENE SIMMONS. Edited excerpts of their conversation follow.

Proving his lifelong devotion to KISS, Don Warneke pulled up his sleeve to show off his badge of honor: A red "KISS Army" tattoo on his arm.

But it paled in comparison with the foot-long portrait of GENE SIMMONS on his left calf.

"Other than the Grateful Dead, there is no other fan base like the KISS fan base," he said, waiting along with 4,200 other fans (who paid between $150 and $214 for tickets) Sunday night for his white-faced icons of stadium rock to take the stage at Konocti Harbor.

I wanted the best and I got the best. Friday night I drove from southern California to Vegas (3.5 hours) to see KISS at the Palms. This would be my 11th KISS Concert and I have to say it was one of the best I have ever been to. I had never been to the Palms and when I bought the floor level tickets I thought I would be standing way back from the stage trying to see over everyone's heads. But the Palms is a small venue and I was able to get 10 - 15 feet from the stage for the entire show. And what a show it was. I was on Gene's side the entire night. The guys sounded outstanding with voices fresh from a break after their European tour. The songs from Alive! were crisp, energetic, and loud enough to rattle your rib cage! I was very impressed that Gene and Paul have "allowed" Eric and Tommy some microphone time. Eric did Black Diamond superbly and his drum solo was amazing. Just to give a little "personal" time to the guys, Tommy was playing on Gene's side of the stage and there was a little girl of about 8 years old sitting on her daddy's shoulders. Tommy saw her (bypassing the overly bleached out platinum bimbos 5 feet over) and tossed her one of his picks.

Saturday I drove the 7.5 hours to get from Vegas up to Tahoe for my 12th KISS Concert. This show was outdoors in the forest area behind the Harvey's Casino. While not as intimate, the show did allow all the pyro, flying, blood spitting effects that we have come to expect from a KISS show. The show started with a glitch with the giant KISS screen which would have shielded the guys so they could climb on the levitating platform, get up into the lights above, and descend during "Deuce." But the guys didn't seem phased at all and kicked into the song from the stage level. Paul had to drop his voice an octave during some of the choruses but its possible that the higher altitude was affecting them all. Gene was able to fly to the rafters and I have to give him credit - the winds had picked up and the light set he was on was swaying pretty good, but he ripped out "I Love It Loud" as though the wind didn't matter at all. It was unfortunate that some idiot in the front had to do something to piss off Paul with only a couple of songs left. Paul's tirade on the guy was pretty good though! After security ejected the guy, Paul flew out to the crowd and was a mere 20 feet from the bleacher section in the back during "Love Gun."

This was one of the best weekends of my life and if I weren't a somewhat responsible adult I would have followed them up to Kelseyville for tonight's show as well! Bravo to the Hottest Band In The World!
