"Detroit Rock City" Movie Advance Screening

I saw an advance screening last night of "Detroit Rock City" and I'm happy to report the fans will not be disappointed! This is every KISS fans' story so this 90 minute comedy no doubt will have all army members clamoring for more. I was most impressed by the producers careful attention to detail (when the camera pans on side 1 of "Love Gun", you actually hear "I Stole Your Love"!) They evoked 1978 perfectly, right down to period-era cereal boxes!! Moreover, I found the film to be a loving tribute to hardcore fans everywhere who were really put to the test in defending their love for this band (you know who you are). From disapproving parents to disco-obsessed meatheads who denounced KISS at every turn, "Detroit Rock City" at last provides a cinematic voice for all of us who've stayed true to the ideals of KISS throughout the years.

Without spoiling the plot too much, I'd like to touch on a few key aspects of the film that I think everyone will appreciate. Soundtrack: I was very pleasently surprised how much KISS music was used in the film (though the new track "Nothing Can Keep Me From You" shows up only in abridged form during the closing credits), to actually hear other KISS songs besides "Rock And Roll All Nite" in a major motion picture was very refreshing. Classic cuts from Van Halen, ELO, Edgar Winter, AC-DC along side newer tracks by Everclear and Marilyn Manson rounded out the soundtrack masterfully. This film is wall-to-wall music and its use is pivotal to many of the film's key plot points.

This film is very fast paced and has a kinship to films such as "Dazed And Confused" and "I Wanna Hold Your hand" (the 1978 film about a group of friends trying to get into a Beatles concert). Fans of bathroom humor will not be disappointed either. If you're a fan of films like "There's Something About Mary", "Austin Powers", and "South Park", there's something definitely in this film for you as well!

Though KISS themselves show up only in a concert performance cameo towards the end, their stamp is all over this movie. All in all, this film is pure light-hearted fun and I'm sure will delight fans of all ages!
