Psycho Circus Competition
From: Bob Rodrick
With the excitement of the new album, added to the already fast paced hype machine and the new radio campaign, the potential is there for "Psycho Circus" to become Kiss's highest charting album in their career. Dare I even say it's quite possible for it to actually become Kiss's first ever number one album!

However, I thought it would be rather interesting to find out what other major rock acts have new releases coming out the same day (September 22) in America. What acts would cause the biggest threat to what could be the greatest week in Kisstory?

Well, according to ICE CD Newsletter, other albums slated for September 22 include new releases by Tony Bennett, Cypress Hill, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Chemical Brothers, The Ghetto Twinz (keep in mind that rap music is ALWAYS a huge seller) and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Out of the list, I consider the Goo Goo Dolls and Tony Bennett to be Kiss's biggest threats for that week.

However, one also has to consider the week BEFORE the release of "Psycho Circus" to see even bigger competition. Three heavy hitters have albums coming out on September 15 (the original release date for the Kiss album) that may have enough strength to block Kiss out of the top spot. These three are Bette Midler, Hootie and the Blowfish and...... Marilyn Manson! Marilyn is hot now, so it's quite possible that the student may tower over the teachers on the Billboard charts.

Billboard Magazine has a website (www.billboard.com) and their charts change every Thursday afternoon. They post up the first half of the Top 200 album charts and the date to check for the debut position of "Psycho Circus" is October 1. Buy two copies if you have to, but let's make a strong enough impact at the record stores to put this album on the top of the charts where it belongs!
