From: CityPages.com

Like most KISS fans, I remember the exact moment they came into my consciousness. That moment is all too vivid. My second-grade classmate, Jim Brown, and I were sitting together with a girl in our class at one of those fake Formica tables listening to storybook records.

Jim waited long enough for the teacher to leave us at the table when he pulled out his own bag of the good stuff, his KISS records. Yanking "Peter and the Wolf" from the turntable, he dropped the needle on the first one. It had a cover with a close-up photo of this demon face, staring at me with black and white make-up and red eyes. It was the Gene Simmons solo record. I couldn't stop staring at the picture of him with blood trickling through his teeth. Watching the label in shock as it spun around, I had never heard anything like that before. I looked across the table at the girl who was sitting with us. She looked terrified. I was hooked.

Click to enlarge Mt. Rushmore, Disneyland...And KISS?
From: IllinoisEntertainer.com

This is no place for modesty. KISS drummer Eric Singer describes the band as a piece of Americana, like Universal Studios or Disneyland. "Whether it's going to Mount Rushmore or Yellowstone Park or the Statue Of Liberty, I say KISS is one of the Wonders Of The World. Maybe I'm biased because I'm in the band, but I really believe that you gotta see KISS at least once in your life. Even if you don't like KISS or don't know anything about them, I guarantee when you walk away from the show you're going to go, 'That was a lot of fun - I'll never see anything like that again.' I always say, 'It's rock 'n' roll meets the circus coming to town!'"

Although old-school KISS Army members may not be a fan of the new "Cat," Singer has actually been in and out of the band since the early '90s, when they started hitting hard rock's radar again. Before and after he has played with folks like Lita Ford, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, Badlands, Alice Cooper, and Paul Stanley's solo tour back in 1989. The tragic loss of longtime KISS drummer Eric Carr, who died of cancer in 1991, prompted Stanley to recommended they bring in Singer. He played on 1992's Revenge, a record that shot KISS back up the charts via MTV's then-popular "Headbanger's Ball." Singer also played on Alive III, Unplugged, and Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions, as well as the home videos X-Treme Close-Up and Konfidential.

The circus has been hitting towns for the past year since the band's first studio album in 11 years, Sonic Boom, came out in October of last year. It rewarded fans with its Destroyer-era beefy tongue-in-cheek riffs and lyrics, encouraging the hordes of KISS concertgoers.

Click to enlarge New CD Brings KISS Back To Life
From: Post-Trib.com

The previous Kiss studio CD, "Psycho Circus," did little to prove that the band still had creative life in it. The CD was billed as the return of the original KISS, since it came in the midst of the reunion of guitarist/singer Paul Stanley and bassist/singer Gene Simmons with the two other original members, guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss.

"Psycho Circus," though, ended up being a lackluster effort on a musical level and far less than advertised when it came to being called a triumphant return of the classic KISS lineup.

Click to enlarge A Message From Fangoria's Chris Alexander Re: Gene Simmons
From: Fangoria.com

Though the support I've been receiving in featuring The Demon on the front cover of our upcoming 2nd Halloween special issue (Due on stands in late October) has far overwhelmed the detraction, I still feel it necessary to articulate myself as to WHY I did this. I fully understand how those who were not influenced by Gene Simmons would be confused as to why he's dribbling blood on my cover so allow me to briefly explain.

Gene Simmons was my first monster. And I know I'm not alone in that.

When I was three years old I saw a copy of the 1977 album "Love Gun" at my local library. The painted cover featured KISS in a kind of Gothic dungeon, with white faced ghoul girls collapsed at their feet. These four larger than life men stood there, painted and bizarre and at the end was Simmons, head back, fangs, bat wings, monster boots, leather, armor...

Click to enlarge Gene Simmons Feels Like A 'God'
From: Skynews.com.au

Gene Simmons feels like an 'Olympian god'.

The KISS bass player and singer said the feeling he gets onstage is better than that felt by the most powerful people in the world, including religious figures and politicians.

He said: 'The most important thing is getting up on stage. It's electric church, there's no experience like it. Popes, presidents, prime ministers, even kings - none of them get to feel like I do. Only maybe Olympian gods would.'

The 'Rock 'N' Roll All Nite' singer also told how the band's fanbase is very broad and he is constantly surprises by the people who reveal themselves as fans.

Click to enlarge Sneak Peak: Fangoria #298 Gene Simmons Cover
From: Fangoria

Though FANGORIA #297 has yet to hit stands (check out a first look here), we're currently hard at work on our second Halloween-season spectacular and thought we'd give you an advance peek at our Fango #298 cover boy, after the jump...

For nearly 40 years, almost every stadium stage on the face of the Earth has fallen prey to the toothy stomp of Gene Simmons' ruby-eyed dragon boots; has been bathed in the warm splat of his fake-blood-tainted saliva; has had its rafters scorched by the belch of his petrol-gargled fire breath. And since the legendary KISS frontman's entire identity was forged in horror and dark-fantasy culture, we're tipping our hats to rock's original monster, "The Demon" himself, in this special, one-of-a-kind issue of FANGORIA (on sale in October). Buckle in for an exclusive sit-down with Simmons where we talk about monsters, junk culture, comic books, THE TWILIGHT ZONE and, of course...horror. We'll also chat up his brother in bombast, Paul Stanley, about his own relationship with the genre.

Click to enlarge KISS And Jonas Brothers Pack Arenas With Family-Friendly Acts
From: The Virginian-Pilot

One group used to push the boundaries of decency; the other never has.

One group draws from 30 years worth of flamboyant costumes and over-the-top theatrics for its stage shows. It's hard to imagine the other group, just 3 years old, doing anything even mildly racy on stage.

KISS and the Jonas Brothers descended from different dimensions of the pop universe, but they have one thing in common: They're two of the most family-friendly acts playing the Virginia Beach Amphitheater this month. KISS headlines the venue Friday night, and the Jonas Brothers take over the stage Sunday.

KISS formed in New York City in 1973, more than a decade before the oldest Jonas boy was born. The band is one of the most easily identifiable rock groups around. The guys still pack arenas around the world while wearing the same garish black and white makeup, thigh-high platform boots and campy one-piece costumes they donned during the disco era. Sometimes slick and cloying but mostly memorable and potent, KISS' greatest hits ("Rock and Roll All Nite," "Strutter," "Beth" and others) still spark huge sing-alongs in concert. In the '70s KISS captured teen imaginations, but the group draws a different crowd these days.

From: The Oregonian

Pacific University held its fourth annual Legends Golf Classic Aug. 1 and 2 at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha. Tommy Thayer, a Beaverton native and member of Pacific's Board of Trustees, hosted and chaired the event. Lead guitarist for KISS, Thayer was joined by KISS founding member Gene Simmons and 21 other celebrities to raise money for Pacific's NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program. As a Division III member, Pacific does not award financial aid to its students for participation in intercollegiate athletics. More than 400 people turned out for the two-day event, which raised more than $425,000 and featured silent and live auctions, dinner, a concert and a scramble-format golf tournament.

Click to enlarge Paul Stanley: Current Tour Is Rock 'N' Roll ' With Full Guns Blazing'
From: Access Atlanta

Don't tell KISS co-founder Paul Stanley he's too old to be dressing up in war paint, singing "Love Gun" and ripping power chords. At 58 years old, Stanley continues serving as ringmaster for the band's live rock 'n' roll circus. And he does so while pulling off feats such as one-handed pushups and flying over the crowd on a zip line-like apparatus.

Stanley and company will attempt to wow an Atlanta audience for the second time in less than a year. And in an effort to attract a new generation, the band is offering as many as four free children's lawn tickets for every adult lawn ticket sold.

Q.: Pound for pound, you have the best between-song banter in the history of rock 'n' roll.

Click to enlarge KISS "Phantom" Comes Alive In Boston
From: Rock & Roll Ginsu

New line-up or not, I admit it: KISS brought the goods last night at Comcast Center just outside Boston, not just enough pyro to blow your head off. I may have to re-enlist in The KISS Army afterall. I could have been a general by now.

They sounded great, played well together, and delivered classic KISS faithfully, with incredible exuberance. By the time the last chords of anthem "Rock & Roll All Nite" rang out in the Mansfield night, I had to admit it - I couldn't help but root for KISS, yet again. Armed with a monster repertoire from which to choose and old-fashion determination, remaining KISS' Co-founders Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley still have enough fire in the belly to melt an adjacent iceberg. Greasepaint aside, these guys know how to win a crowd over and leave indelible impressions.

Click to enlarge KISS Become Role Models For Lada GaGa
From: Spinner.com

As one of the largest bands in the world for over 30 years, KISS are certainly no strangers to the kind of fame that Lady Gaga currently enjoys. With that and their outlandish fashion sense in common, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the rockers and the diva hit it off immediately.

Gaga posted two pictures on her Twitter account, one showing her with guitarist Paul Stanley and another of her and the entire band. The pictures were taken backstage after the band's Friday gig at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J., which Gaga attended with her boyfriend, Luc Carl.

On Saturday, Gaga performed in Tacoma, Wash., and spoke of how inspired she was to meet Stanley and company. "You meet so many people [in Hollywood] who are so ungrateful for what they have," she said, according to PopEater. "But KISS, these guys have been making music for decades and they were ... beyond nice and beyond down to earth, full makeup and everything. They hung out with me and my friends for 30 minutes just shooting the shit backstage like they don't have anything better to do ... That's gonna be me in 30 years."
