From: PasadenaStarNews.com

Children at the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills discovered Monday that the Demon and the Catman aren't nearly as imposing without their makeup.

Gene Simmons and Eric Singer, also known respectively as the Demon and the Catman of the legendary rock band KISS, visited the club and signed autographs while imploring the kids to stay away from drugs and alcohol.

Though the lead singer and drummer of KISS didn't wear their patented white and black make-up, Simmons did oblige repeated requests to show his infamously long, slithering tongue.

Click to enlarge Ace Frehley: Space Oddity
From: GuitarWorld.com

He was the odd man out in KISS, but Ace Frehley came into his own on his solo records. Twenty years since his last release, the original Space Ace returns to earth with Anomaly.

Ace Frehley strides purposefully into a sushi bar in North Hollywood, his bearing every inch the rock star. Dark glasses hide the strange downward cast of his eyes — an inheritance from his Dutch mother — and he sports a black beard that gives him the look of an inscrutable warlord, conferring a gravity and a self-assurance that he never had before, not even in 1977, when KISS were named the most popular band in America by no less an authority than the Gallup Poll. "That gave me a sense of false confidence," Frehley says of the honor. "For a while I believed that we were better than we were."

At the time of our meeting, Frehley is just weeks from releasing Anomaly, his first solo album in more than 20 years, which will be issued in September on his own Bronx Born Records label. The new songs ripple with authority and radiate a sense of danger that recalls the wanton spirit and fire-breathing heat of his early years with KISS. The track "Genghis Khan" is a Kashmiri nightmare wrought in guitar exotica, while the instrumental "Fractured Quantum" picks up the frenetic thread Frehley began on his self-titled 1978 solo debut and continued with on his subsequent records. Then there's his indulgent cover of Sweet's "Fox on the Run," which recalls some of a rock band's racier exploits. "Oh, I got my share," Frehley says, when queried about KISS' body count.

Click to enlarge KISS And The Hall Of Shame
From: EddieTrunk.com

My rage this morning is beyond belief! Why I care so much I don't know? Maybe because I am a music fan my whole life and have always fought for the bands I love to get the respect (and airplay) they deserve. The R&R Hall Of Shame as I have called it has really lived up to that billing lately, but maybe never more so than what was revealed this morning.

You see after being IGNORED for 10 years and not even being on the ballot, someone at the Hall voting group woke up this year and realized there was a band called KISS, that love them or hate them was one of the biggest bands in the world and influenced millions and sold millions of albums. Finally after being ignored for a decade, they were on the ballot, something many thought they would never see. Surely they would be a shoe in now that they made the ballot right?

Well the R&R Hall Of SHAME gave us KISS fans and the band themselves the ultimate diss when they did NOT induct them this year. This is mind blowing and insulting as not only a KISS fan, but a music fan. This bullshit elitist group of idiots has gone way too far this time. Can you imagine looking over the list of people that they are putting in and saying they deserve it more than KISS?!?!? So offensive and clueless its really mind blowing!

"They represent a great cross-section of artists that define the broad spectrum and history of rock and roll and people that have contributed immeasurably to our business," Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the foundation, said in a statement.

Nominees missing the cut this year are KISS, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Donna Summer, Laura Nyro, Darlene Love, and the Chantels.

Click to enlarge Sold Out Ontario Show Regretfully Postponed
From: KISSonline.com

KISS and AEG Live regretfully announce that the Tuesday, December 15th sold-out KISS performance at the Essar Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario will have to be postponed due to severe weather conditions between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the band is performing tonight, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

"While our attitude is always 'the show must go on,' the safety of our crew and drivers has to be our first priority," said KISS' manager Doc McGhee. "Concerns about unsafe driving conditions between the two cities cannot be ignored."

The Sault Ste. Marie KISS show will be rescheduled as part of the band's summer 2010 tour. Tickets for the December 15th show may be used for the rescheduled summer show or refunded at the point of purchase.

Click to enlarge KISS Shows Beer Can Be Sold At Web Concerts Too
From: Advertsing Age

So it turns out giving a concert away online is a pretty good way to sell beer and video games.

On Nov. 25, KISS partnered with live streaming video platform Ustream for an online broadcast of the bombastic and pyrotechnic closing concert for its "35 Alive" tour at Los Angeles' Staples Center.

The broadcast drew more than 2 million views — Ustream's feed was viewed on its own site as well through social-media hubs such as Facebook — and it generated enough buzz to rate as a trending topic on Twitter during the Thanksgiving eve performance. The 1.1 million unique visitors, while not rocking all night, stuck around a while: The average viewing time during the broadcast was 43 minutes.

"We knew we'd get a big audience," said KISS' longtime manager, Doc McGhee. "But we didn't know they'd stay on for that long."

Click to enlarge Ace Frehley Interview
From: KISS Hell

METAL HELL: Did you expect ANOMALY to be received so well?

ACE FREHLEY: I'm thrilled with the response. I didn't realize it was going to be that overwhelmingly positive, but I rolled the dice, I produced it, I wrote the songs & luckily it's being received well.

MH: How did you develop "Genghis Khan?"

AF: I originally just wrote the verse & chorus part & it evolved over a couple of years to what it's grown into. It was the most complicated song on the record, as far as mixing; it was over 100 tracks in pro tools. The guitar intro was added later. The Wah-Wah guitar solo at the end was added later. They were all afterthoughts that made it longer & more interesting.

I've never done a song quite like "Genghis Khan", so I wanted to go into new areas musically & I think I achieved it.

MH: It reminds me of Jimmy Page.

AF: A lot of my songs are influenced by Page & Zeppelin; just listen to "Space Bear". Page and Hendrix are two of my biggest influences.

MH: With the tuning of the high E tuned to G, did that inspire how that song was written?

Tulsa's Wilson Middle School was transformed into a TV set on Wednesday for a segment of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," featuring legendary rock band KISS. The band helped surprise the entire school with a presentation of about $100,000 in new musical instruments from Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation at an afternoon assembly.

"In public education, there is no crisis greater than the lack of money going into musical enrichment," KISS guitarist Paul Stanley said at the assembly. "The government needs to understand musical programs in schools is not a luxury. It's a necessity.

Stanley asked whether students wanted to see their school's 40 new trumpets, flutes, alto saxophones and violins, and they responded with deafening screams of affirmation.

Click to enlarge Bruce Kulick Interview
From: Sleaze Roxx

Bruce Kulick has been very productive since his departure from KISS in 1996. He's recorded three solo albums, released two studio albums and a live record with Union, has made countless guest appearances and has been a member of classic rock act Grand Funk Railroad, touring extensively with them during the past nine years. Recently I had a chance to talk to Bruce about his upcoming solo album BK3 which will be issued on February 2, 2010. I hope you enjoy the interview as much I as I enjoyed talking to Bruce — he's a class act and a good interview.

Sleaze Roxx: How long in the making was the new album BK3? Where these songs lying around for sometime or is this all new stuff?

Bruce Kulick: Well it's all new stuff, there is some stuff on there that dates back as a late as the end of 2003.On Audio Dog that was stuff that I hoped KISS would do but they didn't. So that was stuff that had been sitting around. The reason BK3 took a little bit of time to record and release was that I had other commitments, obviously the touring with Grand Funk Railroad. The material on the record was basically written within the past five years.

Sleaze Roxx: You have some guests on BK3, did you have people in mind to sing specific tracks? Did you intend on singing all of them yourself at one point?

From: RocketScience

If you ever play Six Degrees of Bruce Kulick, the former KISS/current Grand Funk Railroad guitarist's résumé will keep you happily busy for hours. Cherished by artists as diverse as Meat Loaf and Kanye West, the veteran axeman's boundless creative energy permeates his third solo LP, BK3. In the works for nearly six years and produced by Jerry Rubulino, BK3 delivers explosive hard rock arrangements and addictive pop melodies that honor both Kulick's singular past and bright future. And then there's the jaw-dropping guest list, boasting members of KISS, the Knack, Toto, Mötley Crüe and more.

After getting his solo feet wet with 2001's Audio Dog and 2003's Transformer, Kulick—the often unheralded driving force on 12 years of classic KISS records, from 1984's Animalize to 1992's Revenge—assembled his own rock 'n' roll dream team. The roster: KISS icon Gene Simmons and up-and-coming son Nick, longtime friend John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, Kulick's own Union), Knack mainman Doug Fieger, Toto axe authoritarian Steve Lukather, Edguy power metal stalwart Tobias Sammet and even current KISS drummer Eric Singer.

"Many albums lack cohesion with different vocalists, but I know that my guitar playing is the glue on BK3," Kulick says. "There was the clear goal of making absolutely the best record that I could put together. I feel like this is my Revenge."

BK3 will be released February 2nd on Twenty4 Records/Rocket Science

Click to enlarge Former KISS Lead Guitarist Bruce Kulick returns to Australia
From: Paul Drennan

Bruce Kulick is coming back to Australia armed with his first new solo album in five years — BK3 — and a brand new live show that promises to delve into the depths of material from his twelve year tenure with KISS and his work in the last thirteen years as a solo artist. BK3 is Kulick's third solo release, hence the title.

Australian fans will be among the first to hear the album, which will be released ahead of its worldwide debut at the concerts. BK3 features the soaring guitars and signature riffs that Kulick is known for, along with an array of special guests that include former KISS bandmates Gene Simmons and Eric Singer, Knack lead vocalist Doug Fielder, and Nick Simmons (Gene's son and rising star in his own right) making his vocal recording debut.

Bruce promises the shows will be worth the wait and will feature a plethora of Kiss tunes from the eight albums he recorded with the band between 1984 and 1996. Hits like "God Gave Rock and Roll To You II, " "Crazy Crazy Nights," "Forever," and "Tears Are Falling" will be nestled alongside many rarities never performed live by KISS themselves.

The Original Merry KISSmas & Happy New Year Special! This year it happens on Christmas night! Because it is Christmas night the show will be all new but pre recorded. For the first time ever I will feature one song from every KISS studio album in the order they were released. This year we will take a musical journey through the evolution of Kiss as we go through 4 decades of music. All the lineups, style changes and more as we travel through the bands music on what should be the last year I have to rant about them NOT being in the R&R Hall. I started this show years ago out of my frustration at the lack of airplay of KISS' catalog on the radio, so KISSmas is the night to celebrate what I always loved most about the band, THE MUSIC, and spotlight more than R&R All Night on the radio!

Click to enlarge BK3 Is Kulick's Charm
From: KISSfaq.com

Say the name Bruce Kulick to fans who grew up as fans of KISS in the 1980s and 1990s and the following words are likely to come to mind: talented, professional, consistent, versatile, musical.

Kulick came into KISS in 1984 at a point where all of the above attributes were needed, and then some. During his 12-year tenure in KISS — from ghost spots on "Animalize" to his heavy stamp on "Carnival Of Souls" — he was a consistent thread both in the studio and live, while showcasing an attitude conducive to a team environment. Along the way he showcased his six-string prowess and sensibilities across songs such as "Tears Are Falling," "Reason To Live," "Forever," "Unholy," "God Gave Rock And Roll To You II," "Hate" and many more. He was also a vital component of fan-favorite tours in support of "Hot In The Shade" and "Revenge" and the KISStorical "Unplugged."

The past decade has been an interesting one for Kulick, with the closing of Union, forays with former KISS-mate Eric Singer in ESP, his first two solo albums, and joining the classic rock outfit Grand Funk Railroad.

But now Kulick is two months away from releasing his third solo album, "BK3," a body of work that has been incubating for three years. While beaming with pride for the album, he is also grounded, candid and genuinely excited to talk about the actual music, creative process and guitar technicalities. Kulick expresses a sense of satisfaction with what he has accomplished over his career, but there is also the sense that he was never content with resting on the laurels of his past musical shadow. KissFAQ caught up with him to talk about how he is looking forward to sharing his own brand of "Revenge."

KissFAQ: You've summarized "BK3" as being your "Revenge," which for non-makeup era KISS fans is high praise. Does "BK3" represent the definitive Bruce Kulick album to date?
