Click To Enlarge Shannon Tweed In Montreal
From: Examiner.com

Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed were in Montreal last week for the M of Montreal festival. The KISS bassist was invited to participate in a panel discussion and is also promoting his new talent record label, Simmons Records, that is aimed at Canadian bands. Not ones to ever waste an opportunity, the couple was also shooting scenes for an upcoming episode of their reality show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels (A&E).

Tweed was spotted Saturday night at Montreal's infamous Chez Serge on St. Laurent Street. Known for spontaneous Coyote Ugly-style dancing barmaids and a mechanical bull, Chez Serge is the perfect spot for some not-so-spontaneous reality television. We spotted Tweed as she was hopping into a black SUV flanked by a large entourage and some cameramen. The Canadian model/actress was friendly and gracious, posing for pictures and making small talk. This was a nice gesture considering her security attempted to quickly whisk her away and tried to tell us that she was too busy to speak with us. In the age of the internet and celebrity blogs where jilted fans can easily take up their cause on Twitter - it is hard to know whether Tweed genuinely wanted to interact with her fans or if she was merely trying to prevent the possible backlash that can occur when fans are angry. Regardless, she was friend, patient and accomodating. A successful celebrity sighting!

Click To Enlarge Give The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame A Great Big KISS
From: Goldmine

My first glimpse of KISS came on a TV special. I believe it was a concert on PBS, of all places, but it's been so long ago I can't remember. So if any of you can fill in that missing blank, please do.

Obviously, it fried my mind...in a positive way, though. I remember thinking that here, finally, was a band capable of reaching Beatlesque popularity. What a great show!

The concert featured most of the material on their debut album, which I purchased soon after and began wearing out immediately. From the opening riff of "Strutter" to the last pounding chord of a fading "Black Diamond" this wax was - and remains - one of my favorite albums, each cut a classic.

That KISS never came close to duplicating that musical effort doesn't matter. What the group did do has made it one of the most popular bands in the history of Rock & Roll. Popular with the masses, but, evidently, not with those who decide who should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. For KISS has been all but ignored, though eligible since 1999.

The band did finally get nominated in 2009. Didn't make it, but at least the nomination was there. Alas, they are missing from this year's ballot.

Click To Enlarge Gene Simmons: New Superstars Will Be From Canada
From: Ultimate-Guitar.com

Bassist, vocalist, songwriter, reality TV star, magazine writer... Gene Simmons has done it all. As an original member and a co-founder of KISS, one of the highest selling rock bands ever, Gene Simmons has had an undeniable impact on rock music. Even after a successful career he still continues to actively contribute to the world of music.. for better or for worse.

Now, once more Gene Simmons demonstrates that he isn't content with just sitting around and reminiscing about the days of old. Instead, he's resurrected his own record label. And that label, aptly named Simmons Records, has just confirmed it's very first signing.

The band that will be signing to Simmons Records is a group from Toronto, Ontario called The Envy. In addition to releasing their debut album sometime next year, The Envy will be one of the openers for Finger Eleven on their Canadian tour in early 2011.

Click To Enlarge M For Metropolis: Gene Simmons Can't Top Misteur Valaire, The Dears
From: ChartAttack.com

The fifth annual M For Montreal - the alliterative showcase giving up-and-coming Montreal bands a chance to make names for themselves in front of foreign music bigwigs - got a big dose of GS this time around.

In what brought a more amusing, far-less-intrusive-than-one-might-suspect aspect to the very rigidly structured festivities, KISS founder and newfound Canadian label head honcho Gene Simmons brought his Canuck life partner and cameras to M to film an on-location episode of his popular television show Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

Simmons' transparent, all-business attitude caused two very funny moments.

The first was during the opening press conference where he told a room packed with local media (i.e. mostly French) that any self-respecting band interested in making money has to sing in English. The Scorpions, he pointed out, could barely speak two words of English and managed just fine.

Gene declared: "I think I could be the sole judge on The X Factor, I'm more qualified than anybody on the show.

"Nobody on the show has written songs, then been on stage, or had record companies and managed Liza Minnelli. Nobody can shine my shoes."

"Maybe Simon should talk to me, although he is the only one on television that tells the truth. "

Click To Enlarge Greyson Chance Enlists In The KISS Army
From: Entertainment Weekly

Here's something you might not know about Greyson Chance, the 13-year-old Oklahoman whose YouTube covers of artists like Lady Gaga are so popular: He's a big fan of '70s rockers KISS.

"I actually watched the Glee episode where they did Gaga and KISS," says Chance, who just stopped by EW's office. "I was like, 'Wow, I'm going to start getting into this.' I bought the KISS biggest hits record on iTunes, and it just started blowing my mind."

His favorite KISS tunes are the two performed by the Glee cast this May: "Shout It Out Loud" and "Beth," both originally released in 1976. "I love them because they can get up on stage and they can party so hard with these big rock party songs [like 'Shout It Out Loud']," he says. "With their makeup and all, they're so dramatic. I love theatricality. The way that they can do that and then go into a slow ballad like 'Beth,' it's very inspirational."

Chance is currently busy recording his debut album for release next spring on Ellen DeGeneres' eleveneleven record label. Seasoned music industry professionals including Ron Fair and the Matrix are helping him in the studio. Despite his KISS fandom, he says his album is more likely to draw inspiration from contemporary bands like Snow Patrol and Coldplay.

From: Kulick.net

Hello everyone! Had a great week of travel with Grand Funk. First stop was the nation's Capitol, Washington DC. We were the classic rock entertainment (we did 4 songs) on Veterans Day for a very unique and wonderful cause. "Fight Night" is a huge charity event that donates money to needy children in the DC area under the name "Fight For Children."

The famous Washington Hilton hotel's ballroom, where many Presidents have spoken and the hotel infamously known for the attempt on President Reagan's life in 1981, was an amazing venue for the event. And it was a real boxing ring where we performed! It was smokey from the cigars, and tons of babes in gowns were around as "arm candy" for the big shots in their tuxes.

I wasn't at first aware of all the boxing greats that would be in attendance at the event, but the night before I met Jake LaMotta (famous for the "Raging Bull" movie depiction of his life), and Michael Spinks, who had many prize matches in his career. Gerry Cooney, Joe Frazier, Buster Douglas, Larry Holmes, Ray Mancini and others were all there as well at the "Fight Night" event. It was such a cool gig for the band, and I don't think I could of imagined doing this if you told me! I got some cool photos from the plane leaving DC. I really have to spend some more time there soon. Washington DC has such amazing history of course.

Click To Enlarge A Rock And Roll Derby Weekend
From: The Gazette

Despite years of blood-spitting, fire-breathing, and salacious tongue waggling, Gene Simmons is probably not the Antichrist. But the legendary KISS bassist, reality TV star, and marketing mastermind might be channeling Mammon, the demon of wealth, or perhaps whatever Horseman of the Apocalypse rides the most expensive thoroughbred. At least, that's the impression he seems to playfully cultivate in interviews and his long-running A&E reality show Gene Simmons Family Jewels, as he shrewdly and pragmatically discusses dollars and cents with a devilishly sharp wit, and one eyebrow perpetually arched above impenetrably dark sunglasses.

As a founding member of KISS, one of the biggest-selling bands in rock history, Simmons continues to tour arenas all over the world. But he's in town this weekend for a different reason. At the M for Montreal music showcase, he'll be scouting talent for his new label, Simmons Records, and promoting his first signing, Toronto rockers The Envy, who gave a free show Wednesday night at Cafe Campus.

Partnered with ex-MP Belinda Stronach, Simmons' latest venture is focused exclusively on Canadian bands. "I really believe that the next generation of superstars is going to come out of Canada," he says, "you've got perhaps the biggest marketing entity in the world right next door. You can take advantage of America, but you've got to have the goods."

Click To Enlarge Gene Simmons Comes To Steven Tyler's Defense
From: AntiMusic.com

The recent war of words that kicked off with Kid Rock's stance against Steven Tyler's decision to join American Idol, has started to bring out support in favor of the Aerosmith frontman's move to try and bring rock back into mainstream America.

Gene Simmons of KISS recently tweeted about his thoughts on the Tyler deal and the fuss caused by Kid Rock.

"Kid Rock's wrong," wrote Simmons. "Kid's a good guy. Though he's got the goods. But he's wrong about Tyler and Amer Idol. Kid said Tyler did the "stupidest thing" re: Amer Idol. He's wrong. Steven did the right thing. He's going to rock the place, and it's the best thing for him right now."

Click To Enlarge KISS Rocker Gene Simmons Has Game
From: Crispy Gamer

When it comes to rock n roll, Gene Simmons has been living the life for decades. KISS is as popular today as it was during its '70s heydays. Now Simmons is delving into the videogame space for the first time since Gathering of Developers' KISS: Psycho Circus - The Nightmare Child in 2000. After releasing multiple KISS songs for MTV Games' Rock Band franchise and Activision's Guitar Hero titles, Simmons has jumped into the new Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock game as the narrator of the new Quest mode. Simmons talks about his own videogame background, working on Guitar Hero and why it may be a while before gamers get their hands on a stand-alone KISS music game in this exclusive interview.

What are your thoughts on what they can do with videogames nowadays compared to what they did 10 years ago when you released KISS: Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child?

The technology, while it's always impressive, is always going to depend on what the technology is used for. The idea that something can do all kinds of tricks and stand on its head and go back through time, if the stuff that's happening in the technology isn't cool, the entire thing is a waste of time. At the end of the day it is about content. Guitar Hero is cool whether it was a card game or a trivia game between you, but the idea that it uses the most modern technology is really the thing that enables you to kind of crawl into it. It's that unleashing the inner rock star inside of you. It's a feeling. That's what it's about. You can't create emotion with technology. It's got to be the essence of what it's about. It's got to touch something inside of you.

If you were to make another videogame with today's technology, what direction would you like to go?

Click To Enlarge KISS Collared In Copyright Claim
From: Ultimate-Guitar.com

The official YouTube video channel of American glam legends KISS has been closed for breaching copyright laws - just weeks after bassist Gene Simmons controversially called for all rights breakers to be sued and jailed.

Visitors to the band's OfficialKISSonline channel were advised in a YouTube error message: "This channel has been terminated due to multiple or severe violations of our community guidelines, and/or claims of copyright infringement."

Some KISS videos embedded on the band website's front page were replaced with the message: "This video is no longer available because the associated YouTube account has been terminated." At least one replacement message stated S'more Entertainment had lodged a breach of rights claim against KISS.

Simmons recently angered online communities by stating: "Make sure there are no incursions. Sue everybody. Be litigious. Take their homes, their cars. Don't let anybody cross that line."

His comments resulted in hacker outfit Anonymous blocking access to his sites GeneSimmons.com and SimmonsRecords.com, after which he said: "Our legal team and the FBI have been on the case and we have found a few, shall we say, 'adventurous' young people, who feel they are above the law."

"And, as stated in my recent speech, we will sue their pants off. First they will be punished. Second, they might find their little butts in jail, right next to someone who’s been there for years and is looking for a new girlfriend."

"We will soon be printing their names and pictures. We will find you. You cannot hide."

However, he later updated the page to say: "We've been told by government people to take down our previous post, so they can do what they do best: find out who you are and where you are. Stay tuned."

Thanks for the report to RockRadio.

The Atlanta Expo on Halloween 2010 promoted by Phil Elliot was very fun, mainly because of getting to hang out with Peter while assisting with the KISS Museum/KISS Asylum tables, as well as getting to talk KISS all day with many fans with a variety of KISS styles of fandom and collectors senses.

Everything you could imagine was there featuring an exceptional assortment of albums from around the world, posters, promo items, 70s toys, 90s toys, clothes, and all the current KISS regalia! I didn't find anything major; however I am a fairly seasoned collector. My favorite score was a completely intact 1980 J.C. Penny Christmas catalog featuring a full page of KISS goodies including the toy guitar, record player, LP & Cassette cases, microphone & amp, etc. Now I need to see if they've got an address for what may now be an abandoned warehouse which I can raid to find some lost KISS goods in storage (just kidding...well half-kidding.)

There was also a music store representing there called "Rock Bottom Music" after the KISS song who sold out of several Cort Gene basses they brought, some Washburn Paul acoustics, and an Ibanez Iceman bass among many other cool things including the Cort catalog, KISS guitar straps & picks, etc. Their shirts had the Ibanez PS-10 and Axe bass on it and they also had a cute doggie shirt with a picture of a puppy wearing Gene makeup.

Intellectual property monopolies have become so rigid and enduring that even the publishers of Mark Twain's 100-year-old autobiography are claiming the work is still under copyright protection. But there's a ragtag group of misfits out there who are fighting the system like modern-day Robin Hoods, all with their own reasons for defending the public domain. Some samples:

Pope Benedict XVI objects, in that roundabout papal way, to tightly controlled patents on medicine (as opposed to patent medicine). From ArsTechnica:

A recent encyclical by Pope Benedict, one that speaks at length about the Catholic approach to development, is deeply concerned with economic inequality. In Benedict's view, strong IP rights can be part of such inequality. "On the part of rich countries there is excessive zeal for protecting knowledge through an unduly rigid assertion of the right to intellectual property, especially in the field of health care," he notes.

Elèutheros agrees. It's a Catholic group (whose name means "free") which exists for "the promotion, inside the Catholic Church, of the software, computer protocols and file formats more compatible with Her own Doctrine: those Free (as in Freedom)." The group praised [Vatican UN observer Silvano] Tomasi's speech, saying that the concerns behind it inspired Eléutheros' own manifesto.

Ireland's supreme court, meanwhile, has ruled in favor of internet service providers who refuse to crack down on downloaders. From the Beeb:

Click to enlarge My Dream Of Gene Fulfilled On Halloween
From: TheNowNewspaper.com

Some people dream of winning the lottery or swimming with dolphins.

One of mine has always been to dress like Gene Simmons of KISS, in makeup and full '70s-era gear. Little doubt, this dream is due to my childhood fascination with the rock band.

Well, scratch that item off the bucket list.

On Halloween night, my fantasy was fulfilled in fine style when The Headlines hit the stage at Central City Brewpub. As bass player, it was only fitting that I dress like mean Gene, alongside Beau "Slash" Simpson, Terry "Kurt Cobain" Gage, Dal "Alice Cooper." Hothi and Mike "Hippie dude" Schmidt.

For the Demon's makeup, I turned to New Image College of Fine Arts, a Vancouver-based leader in makeup design instruction (www.newimage.ca). As luck would have it, some of the talented students were in Surrey working their magic on actors strolling the corridors of Potters' House of Horror in recent weeks.

Saturday afternoon, I was in the chair for an hour while Siobhainn "Shiv" Lewis, a Brit who flew here for the college's two-year co-op program, expertly brushed and painted me into a rock star with her perfectionist hand.

With Gene-like costume purchased at The Party Bazaar in Vancouver, the getup was a huge hit at Central City. This I know, because over the course of the evening, a dozen total strangers wanted their photo taken with me - a good indication that a Halloween costume is totally dreamy.

When deciding on what to dress up as this year, we wanted to do something as a group, that everybody would remember, and that would turn a lot of heads. When we finally figured it out, we could not think of anything better. Having seen KISS the last two times they've come to Arizona (Alive 35 2009 tour and the Hottest Show on Earth 2010 tour), we were inspired. We are all lifelong KISS fans so we wanted to go all out; and after all, when you're dressing up as KISS you have to go all out! All costumes were home made by looking at various pictures of each band member (Paul Stanley [Starchild], Peter Criss [Catman], Ace Frehley [Spaceman], and Gene Simmons [The Demon]). We went to numerous craft, clothing, and makeup stores to find everything we needed for the perfect costumes. We spent many hours working on our outfits using spray paint, studs, glitter, rhinestones, markers, duck tape, super glue, and other materials to make it all come together. In the end, the strenuous work paid off and the costumes turned out simply amazing. Everywhere we went, people were complementing us, asking for photos, chanting KISS, and even applauding. It was a Halloween we will never forget!

-Dustin (Starchild), Danielle (Catman), Emily (Spaceman), and Alexis (The Demon).

KISS fans for life!

From: Steve Knight

I'm a local TV Weatherman at CBS 21 in Harrisburg, PA. I'm also a little league baseball coach, and as a thank you for coaching the local team this year, my players recently presented me with a KISS snuggie. After giving me my gift, the kids begged me to wear it on the air, and I promised them I would.

Here are the results!

"CJ" and I were fortunate to meet Peter Criss once more this past weekend.

He looked GREAT! He was his usual friendly self, taking time out to say hello and take this photo with us.

We had expressed how happy we were that his health is back to normal!! He was very thankful to God, his wife Gigi and of course the support of all his fans!

Looking forward in hearing his upcoming cd in the near future!

Keep Rocking Peter!
