Cover Of "Spit" Shows Up On Tribute CD
From: A.J. Confessor

Dear KISSAsylum,
I thought your readers might like to know that a cult favorite KISS song appears on the new tribute album, "WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks." As the title implies, this unlikely compilation consists of new recordings of popular songs praising the fuller female figure, including the aforementioned KISS cover! These "anthems to abundance" are performed by renowned rock & rollers from yesterday and today, including members of Quiet Riot, Cinderella, Twisted Sister, L.A. Guns, Trixter, ZO2, W.A.S.P. and others. In addition to such obvious choices as "Fat Bottomed Girls," "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Unskinny Bop," the album also boasts a new rendition of the oft-overlooked KISS nugget "Spit." Unless I'm mistaken, this marks the first time that song has been covered on a tribute album.
As most KISS fans already know, this classic chunk of sarcastic sleaze is carved from their 1992 release "Revenge." Featuring a by-then-rare pairing of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley sharing lead vocals, "Spit" is an unapologetic rock & roll rant about the pleasures of pleasuring a large-sized lady. For the new version, vocalist Kelli McCloud gives voice to the Paul lines (from a female point of view), while the Gene parts are handled by none other than rock & roll comic C.C. Banana! C.C. does an impressive job of channeling the KISS Demon, a talent he first displayed on the 2008 release "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." For that album, he recorded a parody of "Unholy" rewritten about the lead singer of Danger Danger, Ted Poley! It's a note-perfect recreation that's absolutely hilarious. This time around, C.C. belts out a lyrically faithful version of "Spit," although he did change the title to "Split" (in reference to his unique banana pedigree).
As C.C. Banana himself puts it, "For the follow-up to my contribution to the Vinnie Vincent tribute, for which I recorded a KISS song from the 'Revenge' album sung by Gene Simmons, I decided to record a KISS song from the 'Revenge' album sung by Gene Simmons (albeit with a slight change of title, to better reflect my yellow magnificence). What can I say? Split happens!"
C.C. actually has a history of cool KISS-related activities. It all started when he "captured" KISS for the infamous Metal Sludge website in 2003. Then for Halloween 2006, he stalked Gene and Paul up and down the streets of New York City from MTV studios to the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade (snagging himself a cameo in the season premiere of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" in the process). In 2007, the Banana conducted an interview with KISS drummer Eric Singer live onstage at the annual NY/NJ KISS Expo. Later that year he crashed the homecoming performance of Ace Frehley at New York's Hard Rock Cafe while dressed as "Ace Peeley," the Psycho Citrus! Now that C.C. has turned his attention to recording new versions of some of his KISS favorites, he's hinted that he may be doing another in the near future... perhaps something from the second non-makeup KISS release, "Bananimalize!"

Anyway, thanks for letting me tell you about the unorthodox new tribute album dedicated to the big, beautiful women who make the rockin' world go 'round. As a huge KISS fan myself, I was glad a KISS song was included in the mix and I think it's something my fellow fans will definitely want to check out. Iencourage your readers to visit the SplitScreen Entertainmnet website to sample the new version of "Spit," along with the other all-new recordings from the tribute. Though a rock & roll salute to fat girls might not be the most obvious choice for a tribute album, I think the following words from C.C. Banana sum it up best.
C.C. Banana: "For the record, I am a lifelong admirer of the overripe female figure. Like a luscious fruit, a bigger woman is all the juicier. Especially if she's pear-shaped or has ample melons! Without a doubt, these girls put the HEAVY in METAL."
Bananimalize, indeed!
sincerely,
A.J. Confessore, Executive Producer
