Exhilarating Tribute To The Military
From: Examiner.com
Posted: December 12, 2010
The video you are about to watch was filmed at the US Marine Corps base in Camp Pendleton. More than four and a half million people have seen it thanks to a gentleman who goes by the name of Jorge who lives in the United States.
Unfortunately, I would have never known that without some research, as it was sent to me by a reader, and it was purported to have been taped during a USO tour of Iraq. I also noticed, as it happens with most things which go viral on the Internet, that the majority of folks who have uploaded the video and commented about it do believe it was filmed in Iraq.
Many thanks go to Sgt Stephen Komenko, Jr. for correcting the record; he was able to watch the performance on A & E's Gene Simmons Family Jewels. Some further checking reveals an interview Gene Simmons had with Fox News' Hannity & Colmes (this was before Colmes quit the show) about the performance in May 2007.
Simmons related that he and his daughter, Sofia, visited the V.A. hospital outside of Camp Pendleton; there he met 'real live living heroes', the veterans from our wars in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. He and Sofia went through two days' worth of basic training which he described as 'brutal.' He called our men and women serving our country the finest young people on the face of the planet. He was so inspired that he felt he needed to do something to give back.
So, as it turned out Gene Simmons invited Tommy Thayer to join him to perform at a rally for the US Armed Forces at Camp Pendleton on Friday, March 9th, 2007.
The Band:
Gene Simmons (vocals),
Tommy Thayer (guitar),
Fran Stuber (bass),
Darren Leader (drums),
Camp Pendleton Marine band (horns & drums).
It's hard to recognize them without make-up, isn't it?
