Dallas City Hall Gives Gene Simmons Key To City
From: DallasObserver.com
Posted: January 31, 2011
Well, that was ... surreal.
When I left Dallas City Hall at 4:50 this afternoon, Gene Simmons was still there -- in the mayor's fifth-floor conference room, surrounded by cameras and politicos and one or two fans who'd managed to work their way into the room. Laid out before the God of Thunder were myriad gifts handed to him by council member Steve Salazar about 20 minutes earlier, up in the Flag Room outside city council chambers -- a key to the city, a street sign bearing his name, a state flag that once flew over the Capitol in Austin and a blue vase upon which was engraved the city of Dallas seal. (That particular present had been given to Shannon Tweed, the 1982 Playboy Playmate of the Year with whom Simmons has lived for 26 years.)
Somehow, in between spots, Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway managed to get the KISS singer and bassist and Tweed into his office, just down the hall from the conference room. When I walked in, after scootching by the A&E camera crew that perpetually follows around the couple for their Gene Simmons Family Jewels reality series, I overheard them talking about Caraway's Pull 'Em Up campaign.
"I need your help in pullin' up those pants," said Caraway, who, earlier, had taken off his gold pin emblazoned with the seal and made Simmons "a citizen of Dallas." (A shot of that follows.) It was unclear if Simmons had agreed to enlist in the Caraway Army.
Eric Carr's "The Rockheads"

Rocksville Station® comics is proud to present Eric Carr's Rockheads™, a multimedia cartoon series created by Eric Carr. Publisher Dyna Meecho, LLC is currently working with Streetgang Productions, Inc. to bring you this cameo appearance of The Rockheads™ in comic book form. The street date for the publication will be April, 2011.
The Rockheads™ were created in the mid 1980's by Eric Carr, the late drummer of the legendary rock band KISS. Throughout his years with KISS, Eric's characters took shape and matured into an adorable cartoon series, with each one having their own special features and unique personalities. Eric had a vision for The Rockheads™ and attempted to pursue that vision with the aid of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.
In 1987, Hanna Barbera Corporation and Landmark Entertainment showed a sincere interest in marketing The Rockheads™, recognizing that the fun, rock n' roll theme would be appealing to many different age groups. However, because of Eric's untimely death in 1991, he was unable to bring his project to fruition.
Calling Dr. Love: Dallas Giving Key To City To KISS' Gene Simmons
From: AOLnews.com
Posted: January 28, 2011
KISS bassist Gene Simmons is legendary for his musical talent and for the tongue wagging, fire breathing and blood spitting of his alter ego, the Demon.
But when the rocker and reality show celebrity comes to Dallas today to be honored by city officials, it will be for activities that are more in keeping with his other nickname: Dr. Love.
On Wednesday, during Super Bowl week, Simmons will be showing his love and continued support for American troops by throwing a fundraising party for them at Centennial Hall in Fair Park. As a show of appreciation, Dallas officials will toss him a key to the city.

Gene Simmons Rocks Advertising Week
From: MarketingMag.ca
Posted: January 28, 2011
"Everyone here is a brand," said Gene Simmons.
And if anyone knows the power of a brand it's Simmons, a founding member of the rock-n-roll dynasty KISS and now an entrepreneur and marketing guru.
Simmons, 61, addressed a crowd at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto Tuesday during the Institute of Communication Agencies' annual Advertising Week.
An hour and two video presentations later, Simmons walked down into the crowd and invited audience members to seek his business advice.
Simmons spoke with Evan, an aspiring musician who had traveled overnight by bus from New York City, CD in hand. Simmons examined the CD and wondered why Evan's contact information wasn't on cover.
New KISS Studio Album - Coming Soon: KISS Heading Into Studio In March
From: RockAAA.com
Posted: January 27, 2011
KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer has confirmed that the legendary rockers are heading back into the studio and plan to release a new album before the end of the year. And he reveals it will follow much the same format as 2009's Sonic Boom which was a massive success on both sides of the Atlantic.
In an interview with BackstageAxxess Thayer says: "The great news is that we are going in the studio again in the next month or two. We are starting to work on writing some songs, approach it just like we did with Sonic Boom and keep it all in the band in terms of the writing, with no agenda besides writing great rock n' roll songs that we love, then rehearsing them before then recording them. It really felt good to us so we'll go the same way this time."
The new record will be the bands 20th studio album and Thayer reveals KISS co-leader Paul Stanley will produce it, after the success he had at the helm on Sonic Boom He adds: "Paul knows more what a KISS record should sound like than anybody, to be honest with you, so he is going to lead the charge and produce it again and we are all really excited about it.
"I know we are going to start working on it really soon in terms of the writing and rehearsing and we'll probably be in the studio by March, so sometime this year I'm sure you'll see a spanking new KISS album that's gonna kick some butt!"

Tommy Thayer Interview

One of the interviews Backstageaxxess.com set up while at NAMM 2011 was with KISS guitarist and all around nice guy Tommy Thayer. Tommy was there to sign autographs and pose for pictures on behalf of his guitar amp company Hughes and Kettner. The Duotone amp is eye catching. It's lit up with an indigo blue that reflects Tommy's signature. The best part about the amp is that Tommy's royalty payments from the sales of his signature amp go directly to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. After we talked about the amp, we dove into the state of KISS. Will there be a new KISS album? Will there be a tour in support of it? Tommy answers these questions and more. Let's see if lightening really does strike twice...

Shelley Chase is used to hanging out with celebrities, but even she admits she was star-struck earlier this month.
Chase, along with Great Big Sea's Bob Hallett, runs Garrison Hill Entertainment - this province's only booking and management agency, representing musicians like The Once and comedians like Snook and John Sheehan. She's also an experienced show producer and it was in that capacity she was invited to Moncton, N.B., a little over a week ago.
It was there she had dinner with legendary KISS rocker Gene Simmons and his Newfoundland-born former Playboy playmate partner, Shannon Tweed.
Chase was invited to Moncton by friend Brad LeBlanc, the 21-year-old CEO of Momentum Group, which organizes various events around New Brunswick. Last year, the company produced The Atlantic Dream Festival; a weekend-long motivational event featuring speakers such as Sir Richard Branson and Kevin O'Leary.
The Simmons' Formula For Success

There was no sign of the kabuki makeup or the platform dragon boots. No blood spitting "demon" bursting on the stage with his guitar and pyrotechnics exploding around him.
Just a casually dressed Gene Simmons, the entrepreneur, offering his simple pearls of wisdom on how anyone can become successful and/or rich.
Simmons, the 61-year-old rock star, told about 400 curious onlookers at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts that they needed to listen, save, diversify, conduct proper due diligence and spend other people's money to make it to the top.
Appearing as an Advertising Week event sponsored by the Toronto Star, he said they may not make it big like him as the architect of the worldwide KISS marketing and merchandising juggernaut but his tips might help.

Partygoers will enjoy five hours of live music with performances by Five for Fighting, Little Texas, The Grascals, Rival Sons, and 4Troops (a quartet of military veterans).
Aces & Angels supports the Wounded Warrior Project and the USO. Gene Simmons will personally be escorting a group of 1,000 Texas soldiers from Ft. Hood and he'll take a few injured troops to the Sunday game.

Ginette Henri Loves To Create
From: Times & Transcript

Ginette Henri's jewelry designs are not off the wall - they're part of the wall!
Calling Moncton home for most of her life, it was obvious from an early age that Ginette had considerable talent in several art forms - including jewelry making. She also participated in dramatic arts as a teen, acting with Theatre Amateur de Moncton and pursuing it as well at the university level.
Artistic experimentation quickly became a driving force in her life, as she continued to create what she could imagine. She worked with Indian beads, leather, drawing inks, painting on silk, macrame - and finally metals which set her in an exciting new direction with silver, copper, brass and precious stones (Silver Treasures). She says of her work:
"It enriches me, it makes me happy. If don't do art I might as well lay down and die."

Rock and roll icons KISS will bring their "Hottest Show on Earth Tour" to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on March 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 28 at noon.
Regarded as one of the most influential rock and roll bands of all-time, KISS holds honors as one of America's top gold record champions, recording 37 albums over 36 years and selling over 100 million albums worldwide. Record-breaking tours around the globe include high-profile appearances at Super Bowl XXXIII, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the 2005 Rockin' The Corps concert dedicated to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and most recently, the 2009 American Idol Finale before thirty million viewers.
Formed in the early 1970s, KISS was the brainchild of Gene Simmons (bass, vocals) and Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar, vocals), former members of the New York-based hard rock band Wicked Lester. The duo then brought in drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley. The band released their self-titled debut in February of 1974; it peaked at #87 on the U.S. charts.
Inside The Mind Behind Kondoms, Kaskets And KISS Slurpees
From: TheStar.com
My sister has requested that I ask Gene Simmons if he could do something about his hair.
I do not want to ask Gene Simmons about his hair - all-black and hard-looking and seemingly friable - nor its possible reconstruction or remedies.
Nor do I care to ask about the rocker's lasciviously long tongue and its presumed calisthenic capabilities.
Discomfiting sexual conquests and the exploration of possible inflationary claims? Are we going to go there? Please, no.
Nevertheless, here we are, twinned and travelling through the vastness of the 16,500-square-foot Benedict Canyon home where the KISS bassist resides with erstwhile Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed, their two adult children, Nick and Sophie, and their two dogs, Snippy and Lucky, all of them stars in the Simmons publicity orbit, except for Lucky, a camera-shy Dalmatian.

Gene Simmons: Satisfying That Giddy Teen From Past Years
From: Times & Transcript
Posted: January 22, 2011
Meeting one of your childhood heroes as an adult is interesting. You still have that 13 year old screaming with glee inside, but he's tempered by a (hopefully) more mature, experienced adult who can't fall to his knees and play out that scene from Wayne's World when Wayne and Garth meet Alice Cooper.
"We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"
There was none of that when I met Gene Simmons on Saturday afternoon or when I first saw him in person Friday night at the Atlantic Brand Confabulation at Casino New Brunswick.
On Saturday, I approached Simmons, shook his hand and chatted with him for a moment. He signed a few things and later agreed to give me a brief comment for a story that was published Monday.
Alice Cooper Makes Hall Of Fame: Could KISS Be Next?

It took several years, and some outrage from high-profile people, but Alice Cooper will take his place among music royalty when he gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.
"We call it the bottom of the barrel year because they got me in," Cooper joked.
The full band, Alice Cooper, will be joined by Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Darleen Love and Tom Waits in March.
For years, high-profile people like Craig Ferguson of the "Late, Late Show" and radio talk show host Dennis Miller voiced their outrage that Alice Cooper, considered one of the forefathers of shock rock and theatricality in live shows, was not in the Hall of Fame.
KISS Frontman Impressed With Young Moncton
From: Times & Transcript

Monctonian marketing wunderkind Brad LeBlanc can take KISS frontman Gene Simmons's impressions of his recent visit to the city as both a humbling and a head-swelling experience.
Although the star of the Family Jewels reality TV show does refer to Mr. LeBlanc as 'Matt' at one point on his website (http://genesimmons.com/) account of his stay in town, he's also blown away by the fact a guy so young can pull off an event like last weekend's Atlantic Brand Confabulation at Moncton's fabulous Casino New Brunswick.
"This 22 year old has more chutzpah and business grit than professionals I have met twice his age," says Mr. Simmons, who predicts Mr. LeBlanc's company Momentum Group (which also brought Sir Richard Branson to town last year) will go "very far."
Bruce Kulick NAMM Report
From: Kulick.net
Posted: January 22, 2011
Hello everyone! The big NAMM show, which USA Today said had 90,000 in attendance, was an amazing experience for me. I had the time this year to be there for three whole days, and I took advantage of that in a very big way. Besides thanking my endorsers and seeing all the wonderful attractive new equipment the manufacturers display so perfectly, I get once again a chance to see my fans, and to see my heroes.
Thursday was the quieter day, and when I heard that Jack Bruce from Cream and his daughter Natasha would be at Warwick at 3PM I was first in line. I had the pleasure of actually jamming with Jack at a London Rock N Roll Fantasy camp back in May of 2007. I will never forget doing "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room" with Simon Kirke from Bad Company on drums! Improvising with Jack was a dream come true as the band Cream was hugely influential in my early learning years. His daughter Natasha, who goes by the name "Aruba Red," is a fine artist in her own right, into groovy reggae stylings and performs in London frequently.
Jack was in good health and jovial for the NAMM event. He received a lifetime achievement award at a big Hartke Amp company party on Friday night. A few days later I got the chance to sit in the private room at Warwick, Jack's bass guitar company, and actually just talked about some gear, strings (he uses SIT Strings as well,) and things in London. He has quite a good sense of humor, quite sarcastic, and certainly not afraid to speak his mind. Natasha was sweet as always, and her thrill was meeting Boosty Collins! Check out how happy they all look.

KISS Rewind: The Paul Stanley Interview
From: Examiner.com
Posted: January 21, 2011
Alison Richter from Examiner.com dug up a old Paul Stanley interview to celebrate his birthday:
With KISS fans worldwide posting birthday wishes to Paul Stanley, Examiner.com decided it was time to finally reach into the KISS interview archives. Today, a look back as Paul Stanley discussed the making of Psycho Circus.
When we did the interviews for the Revenge tour book, we discussed the importance of a hit single and you said, "I don't want to get caught up in recreating who we've been." Were you concerned that there was a chance of doing just that by reuniting?
Only if it wasn't done with a full commitment and a genuine desire to do it. If it was for the sake of, as I said, recreating or mimicking what we'd done before, without any deeper sense of commitment or integrity, yeah, sure. If it was just the four of us getting together, a month later slapping on makeup and outfits with no regard for the past, it would be not only risky, but obvious and transparent. If that was the idea, I would not have gone through with the reunion. Six months of rehearsing and rigorous physical training to pick up where we left off was a whole different thing than a half-hearted attempt at being who we were.
Why was it important to tour before recording?
Because the initial event was not a new album. The event - which was far bigger than any album - was us getting back together. That alone was important enough to warrant a tour. Where we went from there was almost secondary. The idea of us getting together and putting on the show we did was far more important than getting an album out and would stand on its own with or without an album. Also, at that point, we weren't sure how long we would continue. That was only based on whether we enjoyed ourselves, and the only way to know was to do it.
Everyone asks what it was like being in the studio again. My question is this: Who were those four men in the beginning and who are they now?
Happy Birthday Paul

KISS At RodeoHouston: Expect Lots Of Fireworks
From: Houston Chronicle
Posted: January 13, 2011
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been trying to get KISS to perform on its famous rotating stage after the Chuck Wagon Race and Calf Scramble for years.
I know, KISS is the first act that comes to mind when you think rodeo. But neither was Julio Iglesias in 1986 or Larry the Cable Guy in 2006. How can you make the ladies swoon, or do comedy, in a football stadium? But hearts were fluttering and bellies were jiggling, all right. The rodeo likes to keep things interesting.
KISS is going to be incredible in Reliant Stadium March 15. Rodeo clowns, fried Twinkies, barrel racing, turkey legs, bumper cars, tight jeans and Gene Simmons spitting up blood ... for an $18 ticket? This is the greatest entertainment event in the history of the world.

Keeping your head when all around you are boozing theirs is the key to more sex, with more women, more often - Gene Simmons
If nothing else, numbers alone make Gene Simmons, the demon face of monochromatically made-up rockers KISS, worth listening to. Depending on which rumour you hear, the tongue-baring bassist has slept with 4 600, 4 800, 4 897 or even over 5 000 women and, if another is true, he has a Polaroid of every single one. Now that would make Flickr worth figuring out. In a 2002 radio interview he explained that staggering score simply saying: "If you want to welcome arms, I'm afraid you're also going to have to welcome me with open legs." However, all of of those legs were opened without the tools commonly used by rock doyens - cigarettes, booze and drugs. In fact,he has gone on record saying that he has never been drunk, high or smoked in his life. Clearly, if feel like you need to be halfway to alcoholic oblivion before you can even consider speaking to the gorgeous blonde at the bar Simmons' sober determination can teach you thing or two. The good Simmons' gospel says that if you want to have more sex with more women you have to try to have more sex with more women. Simple, no? Even simpler is that he preaches treating those women like women. "Never approach a woman with a drink in your hand," Simmons has said.
"Just go up to her, state your intention and read the signals. Women are the traffic lights of life - you have to wait for that light to go green." Science corroborates his theory. Research at New Mexico State University shows that to increase your average, you have to hit out from the first over, with men displaying a more predatory, "scatter gun" approach towards women found to have a significantly higher number of sexual partners.
The study also found that your success rate is down to how much you invest in the "dark triad" of personal characteristics. These are your tendency to manipulate ("I'm an astrophysicist, but my real passion is working with underprivileged children"), how selfi sh you are willing to act ("So what if your friends are leaving, stay here with me!") and impulsive behaviour ("Let's get a hotel room…"). While being totally "focused" every Friday night will not endear you to your mates, Simmons proves that good things do not come to those who wait. Expanding your portfolio of metaphorical Polaroids requires you to adopt a single-minded commitment to your own cause. Allow the man himself to provide the final ringing power chord of motivation, taken from the documentary When KISS Ruled the World: "I was a 24-hour whore. All I ever thought about was sex." Play, repeat and get rocking.
The Hottest Band In The World
From: Associated Content
Posted: January 8, 2011
For most of the 1970's KISS was the band to follow! They had a look, and a sound all their own.Front-men Paul Stanley & Gene Simmons took their dreams of "the band we always wanted to see onstage" and turned it into reality.
"You wanted the best, you got the best ...the hottest band in the world.....KISS!"
A thundering guitar note and then the opening chords of "Detroit Rock City" would blare from the towers of speakers to either side of the stage. A KISS concert was an experience.
To anyone who has never seen them live mere words alone can barely capture the excitement. The music was raw, loud and powerful. From the very first album simply titled "KISS" to the "Sonic Boom" KISS has never been a band that garnered a lot of air play, but love them or hate them you knew who they were.
Gene Simmons, Vegas-Style Fight Night on Tap for Advertising Week
From: Biz Bash
Posted: January 8, 2011
A Vegas-style fight night, a "Va Va Vintage"-themed ball, and presentations from speakers like Gene Simmons and Justin Trudeau are among the highlights of the third annual Advertising Week, set to take place in six cities across the country from January 24 to 28. "It's going to be a really great week this year," said sponsorship and event manager Stacey Farber. "We try to make it more of a celebration than an academic event. This year we definitely have a great lineup."
Created by the Institute of Communication Agencies to celebrate the industry and encourage young people to join the profession, Advertising Week takes place in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
Simmons, this year's keynote speaker, will share the marketing story behind the band KISS during an event sponsored by The Toronto Star at the Sony Centre on January 25. "He has a really great story and obviously the band KISS is huge," Farber said. "He's a marketing guru." (Past keynotes have included Richard Branson and Arianna Huffington.)
On January 26, 20 men and women from the advertising community will battle it out in the ring at Arcadian Court during a new addition to Advertising Week - a boxing event dubbed Agency Wars. Participants, recruited in September, have spent three months training with professional coaches in preparation for the event, which is being broadcast by the Fight Network and held in support of Ronald McDonald House Toronto and the National Advertising Benevolent Society.
The second annual Ad Ball - featuring a vintage-themed fashion show from Preloved and Gotstyle Menswear - is set for January 27 at Maison Mercer. Other activities include an invitation-only launch breakfast at the Design Exchange, documentary screenings, student mentorship initiatives, the Cassies (which honour the best in Canadian advertising), and panel discussions with senior executives from Yahoo!, Google, AOL, and MDC Partners.
