On the finale of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, rocker (and commitment-phobe) Gene Simmons dropped to one knee in Belize, proposing to longtime girlfriend Shannon Tweed. Shannon is the mother of Gene's children and the rock who's weathered their stormy relationship for 28 years. And yet, for some reason, she has been unable to convince Gene that their relationship was worthy of a trip down the aisle.
We all know the show ended on a cliffhanger, attempting to goad viewers into waiting until next season to learn whether Shannon said "yes."
But this is 2011, the age where the Internet is king and paparazzi chase down celebrities for invasive photos that can sell for thousands of dollars to popular tabloid newspapers and magazines.
In fact, images at the Daily Mail show Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed together at a shopping mall in Los Angeles. The two seem happy, with one picture in particular showing Gene and Shannon strolling down the LA streets arm and arm.
More images show the two not wearing any engagement (or wedding) rings, an interesting though not wholly important detail to note.
But in reading the couple's body language, it would seem that Gene's proposal on the finale worked, and that the two very well could be headed for marriage come the season premiere of Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
We won't know for sure, but one thing is certain. In the age of the Internet and social media, cliffhangers for reality shows ultimately just aren't very effective.
