  • "Carnival of Souls" -- Reshelved!
From: ZakkNick from the AOL bbs
According to Mercury records the Kiss album COS originally slated for Oct 14th has been indefinetly delayed . There is no word on another possible release date at this time. It may be shelved permanently.... I guess time will tell....

  • Are you annoyed about COS?
    From: Gill48028
Call PolyGram (212) 333-8000 and tell 'em that they should release COS - and while you're at it tell 'em to rerelease Peter's Out Of Control and Let Me Rock You albums on CD. That bloody record label should start listening to the fans who want it. Of course, if you don't like COS, then don't bother, as you wouldn't bother buying it if it were released!

  • Email PolyGram/Mercury
    From: Gill48028
Further to yesterday's post concerning PolyGram's phone number, here are some useful email addresses which might help the campaign for the release of COS and Peter's solo albums. Remember: be polite when talking or writing to the company as antagonizing them is fruitless. But do stress the importance of their releasing the material while it is still valid. Swearing or being rude will only damage the cause.
Email PolyGram, the parent company of Mercury, KISS' label:

You can also sign Mercury's guestbook:

  • Calling Mercury
    From: Jeremy
I just got off the phone with Polygram and all that they would tell me was that the "Carnival Of Souls" album October release is not definite. I know that everyone knows this by now, but one thing i noticed was that as soon as i said i was calling about the "COS" album they said "Hold on..." Apparently, they must be receiving a lot of phone calls about the album. I figured that if we can keep calling them we can show that it is time now that the tour is over. If they do not release "C.O.S." then they would lose out on a lot of money. So, all of you true KISS fans out there...let's tell Polygram records what we think and maybe they will listen.

  • COS Petition
From: Kiss Vault Butler /KISS Vault
Kiss fans, do you long to see the release of Carnvial of Souls? We were going to see it on October 14, 1997, but when are we gonna see it now? Quite possibly never! In order to get or at least do something aboutthis shelved album, I have created an online petition on my web site. Within a month or two, it will be e-mailed to Mercury records. Send them comments, etc. This petition I made is not to insult or offend Mercury, but to show them they are MANY, MANY fans out there that would like to see this out. All you have to do is sign your name, and if you want leave a comment and your e-mail address. I really hope this will help, and maybe Mercury or Kiss can finally realize that this album is wanted worldwide. COS would be a perfect build up to the brand new Ace, Gene, Peter and Paul studio album. Again, this is not to offend or insult Mercury and/or Kiss, but simply to make them realize that this album is WANTED!
Here is how to sign: E-mail me with your info like this:
    NAME: (your name)
    COMMENT: (comments here)
    E-MAIL: (your e-mail address here)
Make sure it is in this form, so it is easy to read. They won't be actual signatures on this, but e-mail addresses for response. E-mail them here kiss@lwtc.ctc.edu
Thanx! Remember, this will go to Mercury in about a month or two, typewritten with all of the signers names and e-mail.

[KA Note: This is all I am going to do as far as petitions go. I want the album very badly, as many of you do, but I am not going to turn the site into a large political vehicle. I like to keep the site as unbiased as possible. So, I stongly urge all those that want the "COS" album to do what they think is necessay to make your voice heard. But whatever you do, do it with class. If you come off sounding intelligent and not vengeful it will go a long way. Thank you -- The KISS Asylum. ]

  • "Carnival of Souls" release -- NOW Undecided!!
Mike Brandvold of KISS Otaku and I just talked and he told me "I just hungup with Mercury records... Carnival of Souls might be held now. They are not sure if they want to release it. This is Mercury Records speaking. I haven't got any word from the band."

  • Vinnie Vincent Box set -- October release!
    From: Chris Bennett
Heard from a good friend who had just got off the phone with Vinnie himself that the box set will be released in October, the main delay for the release was the packaging. Vinnie knows that people are dissapointed in the wait for the box set but he wants it to be the best that it can be. Vinnie is also insulted by people claiming that he is ripping fans off, but he has assured that it will be out in October and you wont be dissapointd. The box set will come with an autographed picture, guitar pic, personally written liner notes, lots of KISS demos and even tracks left off of the guitarmagedon CD. Fans I know that it has been a long wait but Vinnie says it will be worth are while.

  • TV Appearance
    From: Martin Wombwell
Just got our new satallite magazine and it states than on Wednesday 20th August (7pm - 8pm) Kiss will be Live and Direct on MTV. It quotes 'Music from those ourageous glam rockers' and shows a small picture of Gene.

  • KISS Action Figure news
    From: AceFrehley.com
Speculation looms that the latest shortage of KISS action figures is deliberate to create further excitement and demand from the toys. After reading an article written by the editors of the magazine, Action Figure, it seems this is a common ploy for a newly released series of dolls.
"You create a false shortage and the demand from collectors increases dramtically, its just a standard marketing ploy in the industry."
The issue about the two version of the dolls, one with the letter stands and the other with the solo albums is also common...
"It drives collectors crazy because in order to have a complete set, you need both types of packaging and inserts and believe me the toy companies know that and adjust their inventories accordingly..."
Despite these facts Macfarlane Toys are well respected in the industry as making the best action figures available. Macfarlane won the action figure BEST LINE award two years straight in the magazine. But some KISS dealers are not happy at all, some were asked to pay 10's of thousands of dollars well in advance for their order and are now only receiving a measly 10% of the order that they prepaid for. KISS dealers now have the unwelcomed task of telling KISS fans they have to wait even more for their beloved dolls... As one KISS fan recently summarized the situation, "The KISS figures are great, but good luck finding them..."
But consumers can fall prey to these campaigns all the time, the "Tickle Me Elmo" craze of the last holiday season is a primary example. Last Christmas a small infants toy was being bootlegged for over 500 dollars a piece, due to the high demand. The hysteria was worth millions in free publicity on CNN and TIME about the Elmo Toy. Has the collector craze hit you yet? And AceFrehley.Com asks can new KISS related villains, weapons and accessories be far behind?

  • More on the Vinnie Vincent lawsuit
    From: AceFrehley.com
A few exclusive details on the Vinnie Vincent law suit for you...
The suit targets Stanley Eisen and Gene Klein as indivduals, also KISSSTORY LTD, THE KISS COMPANY, POLYGRAM RECORDS and HORIPRO ENTERTAINMENT GROUP. For MTV Unplugged, Vinnie is demanding in his lawsuit $25,000 in royalties for his rights to the song "I STILL LOVE YOU".
But the lawsuit makes a serious flaw when it asks for and claims royalties towards the KISS MY ASS tribute album. The claim of course is the royalties to the song UNHOLY. But UNHOLY was only released on later versions of KISS MY ASS and yet the law suit quotes global sales figures for all versions of the CD.
Vinnie is also claiming royalties for HARD TO BELIEVE, the amateur tribute CD released in 1990 and also claims royalties on the Phunk Junkeez album, Injected, for their cover of I LOVE IT LOUD. The interesting points on these last two are that VINNIE has no idea whether royalties on those projects were paid to KISS publishing or not.
Vinnie makes 14 other claims in his lawsuit and also targets KISSSTORY's profits, if he wins on that point it will be interesting to see how other former KISS members react...
Vinnie also claimed KISS had an option in 1984 to pay him $50,000 for all publishing rights to the album Lick It Up, but failed to pay that amount. They claim this now means Vinnie has full publsihing rights to the material he authored by default.
Finally, Vinnie wants a retraction from KISS for all deflamatory statements made by Gene and Paul. KISS on the other hand will most likely claim that Vinnie was under contract that expressly signed away his publishing rights. Although Vinnie never signed this contract, he led KISS to believe he accepted its general terms, and thus constitutes a verbal working agreement. KISS will also claim Vinnie deliberately delayed signing his work for hire agreement and deceived KISS as to the real intentions of the delay.

  • The KISS Asylum redesigns!
For the past month we have been working on a new redesign for the web page. This will mostly cover the front page of the website and a few more new sections at the Asylum as well. Don't worry, the front page will still be mostly text and the download time will still be quick. What we are doing is just trying to augment the front page with a few more asthetically pleasing graphics along with bringing you ever more news than before. I think the new format will be to the liking of all. It will give the reader a much easier way to view all the news and features here at The KISS Asylum. We should have the new upgrade done later this week or early next week for all to enjoy.

  • No KISS Asylum chat tonite
Because of the information mentioned above there will be no chat tonite. I am sorry to disappoint all those that really enjoy the weekly chats but I don't have time to do them. We are still working on the web site under a time constraint and we just don't have time to do the chat as well. Also, those of you in Europe that have been emailing me about having a better chat time for you all, I am looking into it. Thanks for the interest!!

  • KAOL Tribute CD II
    From: CldJhen@aol.com
I've been waiting to get verification on certain issues, and am now pleased to announce details surrounding the upcoming KAOL Sequel CD. Included for the first time ever will be rare recordings from Eric Carr himself done at the age of 17 with his band, The Cellarmen. These songs have never before been publically released, and KAOL has been given exclusive rights by Eric's family to include these vintage rare recordings on the upcoming CD. Not only does Eric play drums on these tunes, he wrote them and performed the vocals as well. There may be a dozen or so copies of these floating around the world and they're very hard to find, but ours are coming from first generation tapes, and will be digitally remastered for the CD.

As if that wasn't enough, we will also be including on the inside CD booklet, a full-page color illustration of Eric's ROCKHEADS cartoon concept that he was never able to finish. These drawings were by Eric himself that he began working on as a teenager and continued on through his years with KISS. At the time of his death, he had hoped to make these a Saturday morning cartoon complete with music, some of which were co-written by Bruce Kulick.

Finally, KAOL is going to become one of the first fan-based tribute CDs to go multimedia. We currently are working on a suprise screen saver, details to be announced later. All of this information will be available on our *NEW* KAOL website. Here is the new website address, though keep in mind the site will still be under construction and is at a temporary address: http://members.aol.com/cldjhen

So it appears that Eric himself will find a home on the KAOL CD and will be responsible for directly helping the kids of the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. I have received a lot of interest from bands online and should begin to go through audition tapes soon. The deadline is still September 15th for anyone out there who is still interested in participating. E-mail the producer (ILOVE70s@aol.com) directly for official guidelines.

We expect major interest in this CD due to Eric's own appearance and the quality of the bands being chosen. If you thought the first one was exciting, get ready for Part 2!! Thank you to all who have purchased the first CD, and to all those who have been supportive of KAOL in recent weeks. Stay tuned for more details to come soon!!

  • Carnival of Souls newsbit
From: JJF04246@Jetson.UH.EDU via the KISS Army mailing list
Someone on one of the lists asked if there was any new info about the COS release. This is a blurb that was on a "New Music News" fax from this past week we got at the radio station. Nothing really new for us, but it is another confirmation if that's what you're looking for:
KISS ALBUM UNLEASHED.....God, when will it ever end? Thousands of KISS fans are breathing sighs of relief at the news that a long-lost KISS album is being rescured from the vaults. The project was the last collaboration between the (sic) Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick, and Eric Singer, and was slated for an imminent release just before Simmons and Stanley reunited with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, dropping Kulick and Singer like yesterday's news. Somehow, despite the band's threats to sue anyone discovered in possession of the tape, the album has been widely bootlegged by fans, who were convinced that Simmons and Stanley would never release the album after the band's incredibly successful reunion tour.
Disenfranchised KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick says that the album's release will be "an amazing relief for me. I feel it is my finest work and biggest achievement in my 12 years with the group." The album, which is tentatively titled "Carnival Of Souls", will be released on October 14th.

  • KISS Action Figure description
From: Adam (Mayday) May from KISS Army mailing list
Hi there. This is a post from [newsgroup] rec.toys.action-figures that gives a nice description of the KISS figs for those of us not able to see them yet.

"Well, I did it--I bought all four of those nice Jewish boys from New Jersey, with the letter stands, and at not too usurious a price, though certainly not at retail. And, just to be insane, I opened them. Carefully. Here's a little review of each one. Not that any collector would pass these up, but they really are worth cracking open (maybe your second or third one).

In one sentence: These are very cool figures, maybe the best that McFarlane has ever done. Yes, every figure wave gets better, but the attention to detail and the expense is especially noticeable here. Rooted hair, real metal chains, great poseability (wrists on all of them!) and just general good quality mark these as some of the best action figures ever made (in my opinion). And I don't even really like the music that much.

GENE: Has the least action features, but one of the coolest figures. That tongue is long! The "satanic gesture" looks good held up on the right hand, but where does that winged snake battle staff go? Right now, I have it stuck through the back of his (fabric) cape and held in place on one of the shoulder spikes. The axe bass is great, and can even be used as an axe. The detail on the armor is really nice on this figure. The hair is especially cool, as the signature topknot is right in place.

PETER: The drum launches the mace drumsticks, yet not the spears. The spears do fit nicely in a rack molded on his back, though. The lion shoulder pads don't rotate or remove, and their "fur" is matted, but it can be fluffed. The drum is a bit of a problem, as it only gives instructions to put it on the ground. However, the thigh pad (what is on that thigh pad, anyway?) has a loop that you can put the stand of the drum through. If you brace it with the left-hand spiked shield, it looks more like he can actually play the drum. The tail does not quite stay in, but it is pretty neat, a spiked rubber thing with a spearhead at the end.

ACE: The most combat-ready of all the group, with overhead pivoting (non-firing) missile launchers, six missiles on the sides of the leg (the other thing nearest the ground are "rocket boosters") that do detach, and a guitar that turns into a "space sled," really more of a scooter. He also has a nearly uncredited bonus pistol, that fits in either hand. The sled/scooter is nice, much like Tiffany the Amazon's accessory. However, the thickness of the guitar neck makes a lifelike pose a bit tricky, as his left hand won't fit around the neck. Even so, he is one of the most playable figures, with many distinct modes (a concert mode, a combat mode, a space travel mode, etc.)

PAUL: He has a very nice costume, with eight arcticulated blades on his back that pose in many ways, a lot like Widowmaker's wings, but slightly less droopy. Still, though, they are a bit bent and weak, but they pose well enough. His guitar fires off the spiked head, and actually can be held in a rifle-like pose for this, with the figure's hand on the actual trigger. I'm not sure what that extended rifle-stock thing on the guitar is for, it doesn't work as a stock. But if you pull back on it when you pose it in firing position, it makes the missile shoot. Again, the odd pose of his left hand makes a playing pose tricky, but it can be done. The chain and armor detail is great here.

All in all, well worth the investment. The bases aren't really all that great, though, anyway. They're too small to fit one figure on one base (maybe on two), though they fit together well. These are, simply put, great figures to play with, full of Todd's finest and most careful efforts to date. Well done, guys"

  • "Oh Yeah" Australian Fanzine PSA
From: Frank Smith -- editor of "Oh Yeah"
OH YEAH! Australia has gone through a lot of changes these last few years. Most recently, we've had to change web hosts from John Raptis to Steve Gerlach. Now, I'm behind the pilot's seat.
We now have a new look which will, in time, try and emulate the same quality we have in our magazine. God knows how, but we're trying!
The site is purely a promotional vehicle accompanying the magazine that we're trying to make the best in the world! Whilst we do our best to make available to you the best merchandise (which as you can tell from our publication goes into the printing costs!) - some things are just out of our control. We do our best to make everyone happy and hope you realise that we're not based in the US and can't update news-related info that often, as we're not in the middle of it. I'm not one for ripping off everything our awesome sister sites, Asylum and Otaku print. I try and add a personal touch to the site and since I'm no HTML programmer, I guess what we've got is better than nothing, huh?! Still, over 17,000 hits ain't bad!
Our mag format depends on merchandise sales. Since we can't sell video footage any longer, our current format will only remain with your support. We've managed to put together a good range of stuff to make everyone happy - one of which being a set of Australian 1997 press conference pix for $30 (20 pix). For the month of August, we're offering the following subscription deals:
    Gold Subscription
4 issues of our top quality A4 magazine with full color front and back cover.

  • Bruce Kulick guitar clinic review
    From: Aerohunne@aol.com
Tonight I attended the Bruce Kulick clinic held at Splash Sound in Encino/Tarzana. The place was packed, the amps were stacked and cranked to 11 and he was really on tonight. He played his new ESP signature guitar as well as another ESP he owns. Both sounded and looked great.
Bruce used a DAT loaded with some tracks from Carnival of Souls, Revenge and some new material. We were also treated to his singing debut- very cool. If the new stuff is what he's working on with Corabi... get your wallets ready! I suspect he'll be doing a little more singing as well. With regard to the Corabi/Kulick band... they're still looking for a quality bass player... anyone qualify for that?
Bruce played for about an hour (8:15 to 9:15) and then did a Q&A with fans. After the show he signed autographs and posed for pictures. He was charming and very easy to approach. Fans were thrilled by his easy manner. This is one star who missed the class on attitude.
Interesting little tidbit... seems he went to college with Jerry Seinfeld... of course Jerry's major wasn't music, but I think Bruce must have learned a little comedy while there. He kept the audience laughing with his easy banter.
If you didn't already know, it seems Mr. Kulick is a fan of some pretty great guitarists: Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page for starters... he's also quite fond of the Beatles. He ended the show with his rendition of Jimi Hendrix's rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner"... of course he added a few KISS licks in order to make it his own.
All in all, people were treated to a great evening. If he does a clinic in your neck of the woods... I suggest you go. It's not often you're treated to a free show with good music and laughs by someone of his caliber.

  • KISS Kollector Newsletter
From: Joop / KISS Kollector Online
So much news and so little time! I had planned to bring out this Newsletter earlier, but I ve been so busy with everything that it was impossible to do so. The band is enjoying a well deserved vacation at the moment, after wrapping up the KISS Alive/Worldwide Œ96-97 Tour at the Finsbury Park open air Festival in London on July 5. Unfortunately it wasn't a special show - it was just the same as the previous show on that European leg of the tour. Fans who had come over to England (where yet another compilation album was released: Greatest Hits) from the mainland to not only see the show but also check out the KISS museum at Picadilly s Rock Circus that weekend, where fucked by the band as they had removed everything from the Rock Circus to have it on display in the VIP/Guest Area during the festival. Due to my plane being delayed I was too late and didn t have time to check out the KISS museum at the festival site, so I don t know what was there but without a doubt it was a scaled down version of what had been on display at the Official Convention Tour. The band also did a pressconference in London, and recently MTV aired some of it. Already during the 97 tour the band had designers work on plans for a new stage and new costumes, for the next tour. When the band comes back from holidays they will start writing and demoing songs for the new album. Late spring they re supposed to hit the studio and the album is planned to be ready in early 98.
After the Japanese versions of the Remasters, the US record company has now announced the schedule for the US releases. On July 15 KISS, Hotter Than Hell, Dressed To Kill and Alive! came out; on August 12 Destroyer, Rock And Roll Over, Love Gun and Alive II will see the light of day; on September 16 Double Platinum, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will be released; and on October 14 the final remasters will come out: Dynasty, Unmasked, (Music From) The Elder, Creatures Of The Night and the big surprise in the form of the as of yet unreleased and untitled album as recorded with Bruce and Eric! Yes, that's right: Mercury Records has announced the last album by Paul, Gene, Bruce and Eric will be out and it now seems the title will be the one that we all know by now - Carnival Of Souls. The first 4 remastered albums are available on import in Holland and they look great: the printing quality of the booklets has been improved very much (theyıre all very clear) and the CDıs themselves look very neat too. All albums have liner notes about that specific album, written by Robert V. Conte, a fan who is now dubbed 'KISS Catalog Consultant'. Alive! by the way comes in a single case, holding both CD s.
Other big news is that there will be a new KISS movie soon. Very soon: it will premiere in US cinemas on July 25. But it wonıt be a "real" movie, it will be an animated cartoon. And it will be short too. The short animated film will be some sort of "opening act" for Nickelodeon Movies/Paramount Pictures new feature film called "Good Burger". It originates from Nickelodeon s television series "Kablam!" and stars KISS as action figures whose concert must be saved from Big Baby (voiced by Harry Connick Jr. - the KISS members will voice their own figures). It s'been reported Rock And Roll All Nite has been licensed to be used in the short movie.
From the Summer of this year onwards McFarlane Productions publishes a monthly KISS comic entitled: "KISS: The Psycho Years" (check it out on the Internet at: www.spawn.com). Each issue is 32 pages, full colour and retailing for $1.95. Number 1 is apparantly being delayed as McFarlane has announced that it won't be out before August 4. Number 2 already has been advertised too. The first issue has been written by Steve Gerber, pencilled by Angel Medina and inked by Kevin Conrad. One month later number 2 (penciled and inked by the same people as number 1, but written by Beau Smith, while the plot was by Todd McFarlane) hits the stands, and the ad reads:
"The traveling circus of the damned furthers its trek into W. Virgiania as their unearthy origins continue to unravel. But more questions are answered and more mysteries raised when their presence is drawn to one of the locals in a small mining town. Meanwhile, as the old gypsy continues to keep the outside forces at bay, the elements from the Psycho Circus bring down their judgement on the next victim? Will it be the KISS of life, or the KISS of death?"
In July Wizard Press publishes a new monthly collectible toys magazine, called ToyFare ("The Guide To Collectible Toys"). The first issue includes a competition to win the KISS Action Figures from McFarlane Toys along with a KISS jacket and CD. It also features an article in which they did a sightseeing tour through the design offices of McFarlane Toys.
Vinnie Vincent is sueing KISS, claiming he was cheated out of millions of dollars in royalties for his contributions on the Lick It Up and Creatures Of The Night albums. The ex-KISS guitarist filed the lawsuit on July 7 in US District Court in Los Angeles, California. KISS record label PolyGram - owned by Dutch electronics company Philips - was also named in the lawsuit. Vinnie admits he never signed a contract while being in KISS, but now says:
"They have cheated me. This is a case where Iım standing up not only for myself but trying to give others the courage to do the same thing. The recording companies do an amazing cover-up job, perpetuating their fraud on unsuspecting artists who want to see their music recorded and have no power against the big money interests."
According to a Dutch newspaper Vinnie wants 5,5 million dollars and refused to sign his contract because that would have meant his weekly salary would have been reduced to 1.000 dollars.
Not only the merchandise machine is going on and on and on (new merchandise includes: plaques of each member s face, metal KISS sign, tin signs, slippers of Gene s boots and new posters), pretty soon there will be new books as well: photographer Chip Rock is supposed to have a book out soon, and so will Lydia Criss.
It seems there will finally be an official KISS website on the Internet soon. But the, unofficial, announcement caused for a lot of confusion once again in regards as to whether fans can, or are allowed to, use the KISS logo and photographs. A lot of people fear they have to close down their unofficial KISS websites - or at least removes logos and photos. It s the same confusion that was created a year or two ago, when fanclubs/fanzines were fearing they could no longer use the KISS logo after receiving a letter from the band. A while ago Gene sent quite an angry letter to an Australian fanzine, who will call it quits later this year because of the band's current attitued, in which he - amongst many other things - mentioned the use of KISS trademarked logo and such: "Our problem comes from the fact that you (the fanzine editors) believe they have a right to use KISS logos and faces on anything they wanna do. Our lawyers keep telling us if this goes on, we will not be able to defend ourselves against any bootlegger who would say, why pick on me? Why is it OK for fanzines to use your logos/etc on t- shirts... and why are you singling me out? He s right. The law makes no distinction between good guys and bad. The law applies to all equally."
Bruce Kulick, who is extremely excited about the unreleased album coming out after all, was the special guest at the recent Detroit KISS Expo. He played (and of course sang) I Walk Alone, and many other songs. During the autograph session he played a tape consisting of the 4 songs that are being shopped around for his band with ex-Motley Crue singer John Corabi. Bruce will also appear at the Splash music store in Los Angeles, where his signature model ESP guitar will finally be introduced. Bruce and John still havenıt got a band together, as so far they only found a drummer: Brent Fitz - but they re still unsure of the bassplayer. They re ³not sure of the name yet either² as Bruce told me yesterday.

  • KISS Dolls mention in TVguide
    From: MzCharisma
There's a still from the short film and a little write up, which is as follows:
    KISS Off:
"The short film the proceeds 'Good Burger' in theaters features Thundergirl, Meltman, and the other addled action figures from Nickelodeon's bizzaro animation series Kablam! In 'Action League Now!' the crime-stoppers are called upon to save the rock band KISS from an enormous baby doll. When KISS's heavy metal music wakes up the sleeping tot, the cranky Big Baby crashes their concert, trampling hundreds of smaller dolls and snatching Gene Simmons off the stage. 'He chews on me like a pacifier,' relates Simmons on the phone from Barcelona, a stop on KISS's current world tour. A quick thinking Meltman seizes a guitar and strums the infant (voiced by Harry Connick Jr.) back to sleep. How did KISS get involed with this motely crew? Says Simmons: 'The producer is a major KISS fan who wanted free tickets to a concert, and I said, 'Well, can I meet Thundergirl?' "

  • Vinnie Vincent sues for 5.5 million
    From: ACEis1st@aol.com
The July 19th issue of Billboard reports that Vinnie Vincent has filed suit against Kiss, Polygram, and other related companies. This suit alleges that Vinnie was defrauded of royalty payments for songwriting, albums, performances, song books, E.T.C. The filing alleges he is due at least $5.5 Million. This suit also alleges that Vincent was dismissed from the group in because he refused to sign an employment agreement, and he didn't sign an agreement because the bands terms were unacceptable.

  • KISS remake
    From: George
I thought collectors of KISS re-makes would definitely like this.
I was at my brothers bachelor party on Saturday night, at SCORES in New York City. While I was enjoying one of the many lap dances I received from the very beautiful Autum, a familar song began to play, but it sounded very different. It was a club dance version of "I Was Made For Loving You"!! They used the chorous but added their own rap verses. It made the dance that much better! The name of the band is "Chill" and the song is on a CD called "Macarena Club Cuts", I found it at "Coconuts". Its worth having if you collect KISS re-makes.

  • More KISS stuff from Todd McFarlane
    From: KISS Otaku
Reported in Issue One of go figure! in an interview with Todd McFarlane, there will be more....
    Villains
    KISS concert play set
Toys based next years concert tour
Toys based on The Psycho Circus

  • KISS Psycho Circus
    From: KISS Otaku
At the Detroit Expo, McFarlane Productions announced that the first issue of KISS: The Psycho Circus will be out on August 4th.

  • Statement from David Snowden
    From: KISS Otaku
I spoke to McFarlane Toys today and they have started shipping the action figures out today (07/16/97). They will only be shipping 8% of my preorder. This is beyond my control. Over the next 8 weeks, I have been advised that I will be recieving shipments once a week with more action figures. . .how many? They didn't know, nor would they commit to a figure. I am NOT the only dealer this is happening with. It's happening all over the country. Everyone who ordered the action figures from me, will recieve their order. I will be filling orders in the order in which I received them. I ask that fans please stop emailing me and asking about the status of the action figures. Within 6 hours today, I received 93 email messages inquiring into the status of their action figure order.
On the issue of the KISS stands included with the action figure. Not everyone will get the KISS stand, some will get the other packaging with the record sleeves in them. Again, I can in NO WAY control this. I have sent my money to McFarlane weeks in advance only to wait patiently with everyone else for the figures to arrive only to hear about the constant delays.
I appreciate everyone's support and patience in this matter. I do promise to ship the orders as they arrive to me. Anyone who put the action figures on their credit card, will not be charged until the order has been shipped to them. I never precharge credit cards for orders until the item is in stock and ready to ship to the customer.

  • KISS on cover of P.O.V magazine
    From: KLT4725@aol.com
Thought I'd let everyone know that KISS are the cover boys for this month's issue of P.O.V. magazine. It's a photo with Peter holding a dice on three, Paul holding stalkings, Gene with an 8 ball and poolstick (?) and Ace with...an ace card. There's a short article/interview with Gene and Paul and some awsome photos of the band with the Brownie Twins- very cool!!! Also, the lastest issue of NonSport update has promo card #8 (photo from the first album photo shoot).

  • Story on KISS Trading cards
    From: Claude
F.Y.I., I did a story about the new KISS trading cards, which appears in the August 1997 issue of Collect! magazine, a monthly magazine about trading cards. It should be available at comic book and sportscard shops, Barnes & Noble, etc. Collect also has a back-issue order line at 1-800-899-8833. I thought you and your visitors might want to check the story out. I interviewed Peter, Ace, Robert Conte, and the head of Cornerstone, the company producing the cards.
For the record, both KISS guys were really great to talk with, very normal and unassuming. No inflated rock star egos! If anything, they were just as much fun as they had been on the now-infamous Tom Snyder appearance way back when!
If you or your visitors want to drop me a line and let me know what they thought of the story, they can e-mail me at cflower9@idt.net.

  • Status of the Ace Frehley Signature Guitar
    From: AceFrehley.Com
I've been in touch with MAXCAKE Productions, regarding the new Ace Frehley signature guitar, which will be the store front model, to be designed and built by GIBSON USA.
MAXCAKE realizes lot of the fans have sent away requests to MAXCAKE for more information with no current response.
I have been told that there are some terms and conditions in the GIBSON USA contract that need to be fine tuned in order for production on the store front version of the guitar to complete production.
As a result, MAXCAKE respectfully asks that you please be patient in their responses to your letters.
This NEW version will differ only slightly from the GIBSON CUSTOM version, which sold out before production even took place, at the NAMM festival in LA in the spring. • Praise for the KISS Remasters
    From: KISS Vault Butler
I just picked up the set of remasters! I'll tell you one thing. Awesome! Everything from the original LP's are back. That includes the back of the CD. Remember how the old ones had only the track listing? Well, these have the original back.
Kiss - It has that big sparkling logo on the back
Hotter Than Hell - It has those pictures and the mask on the back
Dressed To Kill - It has the picture on the front, except all white
Alive! - It has the picture of the two fans with the banner
The front's are much more brighter. To the left of the cover are the words Kiss, The Remasters. Since it is packaged up in an all clear case, under the CD, there is a story behind the album's making, etc.
And yes, the photo booklet with Alive! is back too!
But what is the most important about the remasters? The SOUND! The sound is excellent. Listen to HTH. Since the old CD had bad mastering, the drum tracks on just about every track was pretty horrid sounding. It now sounds great! Really great sound! You can easily tell the difference.
For those who do not yet have them, or who do not have all of the set yet, run out and get them. I paid $11.97 for each of the first three, and only $19.99 for Alive! (It was on sale, that's not the original price)

  • KISS Remasters status in Australia
    From: Greg Davies
Hello All, Just thought I'd let you know on some info I've found. . . . According to record stores around Perth and according to PolyGram, there seems to be no plans to release the new remasters in Australia as yet. Most CD shops seem to be happy to take orders for them to be imported to Australia. As soon as I find out any more info on remasters in Australia, I'll let you know.

Just wanted to catch up with you all with a few things.
First I want to thank all that attended the Detoit Expo and for making it a success. I had a great time and for those who were there knew that as well!
Of course I am extremely excited about the COS CD coming out in October. Those who care will hear it in full sonic glory finally!!!!!
I also want you all to know about a performance at a store in Los Angeles where I will perform much like in Detroit. SPLASH music at 19522 Ventua Blvd. in the Encino area of the Valley in LA Tele is 818 758-2940. I will start at 7:30PM and don't be late. The store is introducing my new signature model ESP guitar which is finally available. The admission is free so call and reserve your place there.
Regarding John and the lawsuit stuff I want you all to know that both John and NIkki are my close friends so it has been difficult for me. They both know that I need to stay out of this one and take no sides. It is unfortunate but the music is what matters to me not their business matters. I wish it didn't happen but such is life.
There will be news coming regarding our band soon so hang tight for those who are interested.
Thanks again to you all and take care,
    Bruce

  • Bruce at the Detroit KISS Expo
    From: Kulicker
I Walk Alone sounded amazing! Of course I think he has a great voice and you know the guitar work is always SUPERB! He did Rain, Liar, and 495 and they were great. He is the ULTIMATE instrumental guitarist to me--everything he played was totally cool. LOTS of songs from Revenge and a KILLER version of the Star Spangled Banner!!! He played a tape of the new Corabi/Kulick stuff while he was signing the autographs--4 songs. The names were "Heavy D", "Try", "Around Again", and I can't remember the other one :( I'll have to ask BK. The sound was heavy, the vocals were strong and the guitar sounded extraordinary! My fav right now is probably Heavy D--it stays in your head ya know? But they all ROCK!!!

  • Detroit KISS Expo -- Thanks the fans!
    From: Jeff Necker
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference I just wanted to thank all of you who attended our Expo. I think things went very well. Sorry about the delay in the doors opening, but we had to do a sound check with Bruce, and I didn't want him mobbed first thing in the morning.
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference putting a face with an E address. For those I didn't get to talk with I am sorry. I know alot of you asked at the door where or who I was. I had alot to do for Bruce. If you saw the "Long Hair" wearing a vest that walked Bruce in that was me.
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference Speaking of walking Bruce in? the crowd RULED! What a great response, Bruce was very flattered and excited. I think he proved it by playing for nearly an hour and a half. For those of you who didn't make it, Bruce played some Revenge stuff, some COS stuff and a jam called "465". Very Kool. Bruce did debut his voice when he sang "I Walk Alone". The whole song. He looked relaxed and Natural at the Microphone.
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference My special thanks to Mike from Otaku, He will have a lot of Kool stuff on his page. He got great pictures, video, and recordings. Drac was also there. Also, thank you to Chet from McFarlane Toys, he was busy all day answering questions about the figures and the comic. He had some great art work on display. Thank you to Lydia Criss, Robert Conte, and Dale Sherman for taking the time to answer the ARMY'S quetions. And thanks to all our dealers.
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference Lastly thank you Bruce Kulick. I think for those who met him found him to be very Kool. I know he was pleased with your response to his appearence at the Expo.
For those of you I met it was a pleasure, it makes a big difference Any questions out there let me know, Remember to go to Otaku when the server comes back up and check out the days events.

  • Fan comment on KISSNet
I usually do not put fan comments on my front page but this letter was particularly good and did make note of a few things about KISS fan sites and KISSnet.

    John and Chris,
As usual, thanks for the SUPER job that you guys do!
I am concerned about the "no photos/no logos" statement by Gerri Miller who was speaking for the band.
KISS must surely know that this will cause some bad blood with some die hard fans. It is clearly counter-productive!
Certainly KISS has a right to do whatever they want with their business. But to alienate fans who have web-pages for non-commercial reasons is absurd. My site is simply there because I love the band. My site sells NOTHING! Your site sells NOTHING! (I'm not at all comparing the content of mine to yours LOL!!!). The "crux" of the matter is that these fan sites sell KISS! "FREE!!!!!!"
Sure, I'll change the logos and take the 1 picture of Gene off my site if I have to. No big loss to anyone as my page is just a links page. BUT, when they go attacking some of the 'substantial sites' such as yours and Otaku, I feel there will be some bitter feelings from the most die-hard fans......and who can afford to piss off 'customers'?
I do not feel that this is the most prudent thing for the band to do but hell it's not my interests involved here. Again, I fully understand their rights and will abide by their wishes.
Understandibly, if I was selling 'boots' of some sort or making money off my web page I would feel differently about my use of the KISS logos, photos, etc. But as I don't, I feel that KISS is being silly about the whole thing. KISS IS GETTING FREE ADVERTISING FROM EVERY KISS PAGE ON THE WEB. CAN THEY NOT UNDERSTAND THIS?
Why turn something positive and FREE into something negative?
Sorry to burden you with this narrative but someone needs to point this out to 'the power structure' and you guys are the 'connection'.
Again, thanks for all the enjoyment your page provides to me!
    Mike Penix "Mad-Mike in Hooterville"

[KA Note: If you wanna discuss this subject and more I suggest you check out a new KISS fan web site called KISS World Wide Network. They have an opinions section and a bulliten board where you can express YOUR views! Check it out!]

    From: xYAHOOx@prodigy.net
The week in rock, had a clip on Vinnie Vincent sueing KISS, due to non-payment of royalties for work on Creatures Of The Night and Lick It UP. They showed a clip from Vinnie's news conferance he said the main reason for the suit is to show children interested in the music bizz that groups like KISS can treat you unfairly. (Like the money doesn't matter to him) He looked like he was gonna cry! There was no comment from KISS at this time. (well maybe under thier breath)

  • KISS sighting in Entertainment Weekly
    From: Steve Fisk
In the recent issue of 'Entertainment Weekly', they have a small article, with pictures, of the KISS Action Figures. The article tells how the figures were due out sooner than this, but the guys in KISS had Todd McFarlane make some last minute reivsions. Gene wanted his hair pouffier, Paul wanted his lips more puckered, Ace said his head looked too small, and Peter wanted a tail added to his figure. The cover of this issue has the stars of the new movie 'Contact'. Just thought I'd pass this on to you, in case you hadn't seen it yet!

  • KISS Action Figures
    From: Qualactin@aol.com
I' m from Alden NY just outside of buffalo. I was suprised today when I went to our local Media Play store and found out the first shipment of pre-order figures was already sold out . They were now taking orders for the next shipment due in august then another batch after that the clerk wouldn't give me any details ecept the first shipment is due monday. Just thought I'd pass this info on so everyone who wants them pre-orders because they`re going fast.

[KA Note: This is true! The first shipments are being sold out very quickly! They are supposed to be released today, July 14th, so you might want to check the Toy stores today. They may be scarce. I do know that they will be more readily available in August. One more quick note. The first series comes with K-I-S-S platforms, with one letter being in each figure. Well it has been very difficult for McFarlane Toys to make these platforms and to have the figures come out on time. So the platforms will ONLY be in the first series. The second series will have little KISS solo albums which will be the jacket and a cardborad record inside the jacket. They had to do this for production reasons to get the figures out NOW. If not they said that they would have taken until Christmas to do them all. Check the Action Figure page here at the Asylum for a look at the Action figures if you have not already done so.]

  • Official KISS Web site -- KISSnet.com
I got this response from Gerri Miller in an email to her about the status of the official KISS web site. She said this, " Yes, Gene said when KISSNET is running they don't want any unofficial sites using the logo or the photos."

[KA Note: There you go, that means sites like KISS Kreations etc are history. I am not sure what she ment by "the photos" so I questioned her on that. When I get more info (including the start date of KISSNet.com) I will inform everyone.]

  • Experience KISS all over again -- KISS The Remasters
I got some of the KISS remasters today for my B-day [they officially come out on July 15th]. I must say they are great! The sound quality is amazing! There IS a difference! The packaging is not bad either. The covers of the albums are MUCH crisper visually and the jewel case is all clear with the words "KISS The Remasters" written on the front spine. There are liner notes written by Robert Conte about the album and the time it was recorded. These are located under the CD in the jewel case. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in is that there were no lyrics. I thought that would have been cool! This is the case with KISS and HTH, but Alive! has a few pages of picts inside the booklet which is cool. Alive! is in a single jewel case that holds 2 CDs.

  • KISS Live book
    From: Mike
My name is Mike and I would like to share something with you. I went to Best Buy yesterday and picked up a unique magazine of KISS!! It's called "KISS LIVE!" Its pretty cool. Gene is on the front cover..from the Creatures tour and he's singing. On the back it shows a picture when they first exposed themselves on the Acadamy Awards night. Shows alot of neat pictures dating from 1976 to 1996. It cost like 8 bucks.

[KA Note: I have this book, it is put out by Omnibus Press, the same people that put out the "Revenge is Sweet" book. Both books do have similar picts but many of them are never before seen etc.]

I spoke to someone in Ginger Greagor's office at PolyGram today and here's the official word...(Ginger is the A&R person at PolyGram for KISS and a host of other bands...check your liner notes from just about any Mercury artist and she's in there.)

Anyway, the album IS going to be released on October 14. The title right now is listed as "To Be Determined," so it probably will not be called "Carnival Of Souls."

With regard to the remasters release schedule, the person I spoke with did not have dates for the final two sets, but she did say they are "Coming out in sets of five," with "Alive!" and "Alive II" counting as two discs each. That means that the Bruce and Eric album is going to be the fifth disc in the last set, which probably does indicate that "Dynasty," "Unmasked," "(Music From) The Elder," and "Creatures Of The Night" will be released on the same day. That is NOT confirmed now, but highly possible.

Finally, the reason the label decided to put the album out now is
    A) They want to recoup some of the money they invested in the original recording of the record and
    B) they feel that the band has established that the reunion line-up is what is going to be known as KISS from now on and that fans won't be "confused" as to who is going to be in the band.
Basically, it sounds like a final kiss-off to Bruce and Eric on the label's part. This is unfortunate for those of us who prefer the line-up of Paul, Gene, Bruce, and Eric, but at least we're actually going to get this awesome album!

  • New Studio album Song Corrections
From: Michael Edwards / KISS Karisma
Well, guess what? Even more information on this album! Actually, this is just a minor correction in the songwriting credits:
"You Confess" is actually called "I Confess" and is listed as being written by Gene Simmons and K. Tamplin.
"It Never Goes Away" and "In The Mirror" were written by Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick, and Curt Cuomo, NOT Gene Simmons, Bruce, and Curt.
"Hate" was written by Gene, Bruce, and Scott Van Zen...no credit for Paul.
This info. comes from an official list of writing credits that I got today. Gerri probably got her info. from Gene, who probably can't remember!

Here is the revised Song Credit list:

    1. Hate -- Simmons / Kulick / Scott Van Zen
    2. Rain -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    3. Master & Slave (aka Tell Me) -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    4. Childhood's End -- Simmons / Kulick / Tommy Thayer
    5. I Will Be There -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    6. The Jungle -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    7. Seduction of the Innocent -- Simmons / Van Zen
    8. It Never Goes Away -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    9. In My Head -- Simmons / St. James
    10. I Confess - Simmons / K. Tamplin
    11. In the Mirror -- Stanley / Kulick / Cuomo
    12. I Walk Alone -- Simmons / Kulick
  • KISS Remasters Review
    From: JMitzel
Just received the first five remasters today -- Five days early!! Three words: THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL !!! The packing is unreal and the sound is the best I have ever heard!! They are packaged in clear jewel cases and the words -- KISS The Remasters -- can be seen to the left of the cover artwork. The packing is very bright and vivid and reminds me of the original albums. Even the CD's themselves are very colorful!! Behind each CD there is story behind each album and how and why is was written -- also, when and where they were recorded and released -- and other info to that effect!! I can't believe these things are retailing for only $11.95 and the 2-cd sets for $23.95!! I would pay double that for them!! Also included in the Alive set, which is a single CD jewel case, is the original 12 page booklet that came with Lp version in '75. Be sure to pick them up ASAP !!!!!

  • KISS sighting
    From: Don Venzina III
I'm not sure if anyone is aware, for I didn't find anything on the website, but just wanted to point out that last week, Tom Arnold appeared on the Regis and Kathie Lee show, and he was talking about his new sitcom coming out in the new season on FOX network, I think. Anyways, he was talking about who would be appearing on his show, and he mentioned Gene Simmons from Kiss. Tom tried to talk more about Gene appearing on the show, but unfortunately Kathie Lee with her big mouth kept interrupting Tom, so Tom never really got to talk much about Gene, but he seemed excited about having Gene on the show.

  • New KISS Studio Album release date!
From: Michael Edwards / KISS Karisma
I haven't checked the site yet, so you may already have this, but there is a scheduled release date for the "Carnival of Souls" album [the album with Bruce and Eric]. As of today, it is scheduled to be released on October 14. The title, as far as I know, is still up for grabs. (This date is NOT a rumor.)

[KA Note: I talked with Mike Edwards just a bit ago and found that his source is VERY credible, but I can't name it. It is within the "KISS camp." But remember album release dates are subject to change. Also Bruce Kulick has heard that the album is coming out and he sounds very excited about it...he used to be skeptical about it...but now that he is very excited about it -- it only furthers my feelings that this is a go!!]

  • "Black Diamond" book update
    From: Dale Sherman
I will be at the Detroit convention this coming weekend. However, I should point out that the book's cover girl, Haley, is unable to attend due to other commitments. We had hoped we could work out something, which is why I haven't said much about it; unfortunately, there was just no way around it. Still, I hope everyone that is interested in the book will come on by!
My publisher, CG Publishing, had worked out a deal with GUITAR WORLD for the magazine to begin featuring articles based on selections from many of CG's books. In relations, an article taken from BLACK DIAMOND could possibly appear in the near future. I'll keep everyone informed.
Finally, I will be moving at the end of July and my current e-mail address will be stoping at that time. If wish to write to me by e-mail, you will have until July 19th. After that, I will inform KISS Asylum what my e-mail address will be once I am completely moved (expect sometime in early August). Although I am moving out of state, I will be keeping my post office box open until sometime in September, so you can always snail-mail me if you wish.
Finally, KISS Otaku has put up a short audio interview with me and Haley from the KISS-A-RAMA convention in Cleveland. Check it out if you want to hear what we all sound like.
    Talk to everyone later!

  • Spoke to Gene Simmons -- Interesting News!!!
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
I had an interesting conversation with Mr. Simmons this evening, about Action League Now, the European tour/last show in London, KISS & Sell, etc.
**Peter's arm is better and Gene thinks he may not need surgery.
**There will be an Alive IV but NOT this year.
**What IS going to be released sometime in the next few months is the album with Bruce and Eric, but he wasn't sure if it would be titled Carnival of Souls.
**There's a new comic coming next month from Todd McFarlane, called KISS' Psycho Circus, and an official website is on the way.
**They've all started to write during the tour for the studio album. No producer picked yet.
**He hadn't heard KAOL yet but wants to.

  • Ex-KISS Guitarist files lawsuit for Royalties
    From: Tuck Watts
From Associated Press Newswire... (I work for WRCB-TV Chattanooga)
Ex-KISS Guitarist Files Lawsuit For Royalties
(Nashville) -- A former guitarist for the rock group KISS is suing the band, claiming he's owed millions of dollars.
Vinnie Vincent now lives in Middle Tennessee. From 1982-to-84, he toured and recorded with the hard rock band, writing songs like "Lick It Up" and "I Love It Loud."
At a news conference today in Nashville, Vincent and his attorney Mary Parker announced they had filed the lawsuit against the band yesterday in Los Angeles.
Vincent claims he's been defrauded of royalty payments, since he never signed an employment agreement. He didn't put an exact dollar figure on what he thinks he is owed, because it would depend on KISS sales figures.
Vincent nearly cried at the news conference, saying that rock musicians sometimes give their hearts and souls, "and never get anything back except heartache."

  • KISS fanzine PSA
    From: Chad Storm
My name is Chad Storm, and I am the editor of an East Coast Kiss fanzine called, "The Fire Still Burns". Could you please let all the Kiss fans know that I only do fanzines when they are on an "as-needed" basis. i.e. reunion stuff. I have been receiving numerous letters since a small ad was placed in the most recent Metal Edge Kiss mag that came out. I wish I could still do the fanzine but it does cost money, and money right now is scarce, (I'm getting married on Sept.20) Money has to pay bills, and mortgages, and car payments. I haven't written anyone that has mailed me, and anyone who has written, please don't take it personally, why I haven't written back. All of the Kiss fans are one big family, and you are all equally important. So I've written this letter in hopes that you'll understand why I haven't wrtten you back. Almost all of the Kiss fans are on the web. Most of you will read this. When I can finally get a handle on more money, I will start it up again. If you would like to e-mail me, please do so. KISSFSB@aol.com
I will tell you this, when the new studio album is finally in our possesion, that will be just cause to do a fanzine. Let's face it, all of us fans are a little sick of greatest hits albums, we want the best Kiss album to be made and released. In the meantime, don't ya just wish Carnival of Souls would come out to shut us all up? Only Gene can answer that question.
Anyways Deuce, if you could just post this, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks and without us fans, The Fire would have never been lit.
    Sincerely,
    Chad Storm

  • KISS Psycho Circus article from Wizard Magazine
    From: SnowDog75@aol.com
TODD LURES KISS TO McFARLANE PRODUCTION
    from Wizard Magazine, August 1997
"Mega-rockers Kiss are still on tour and coming to a comic shop near you. But this time, the scalpers aren't going to make out like bandits. Tickets to this show are only $1.95.
The new KISS: The Psycho Circus comic debuts in July from Todd McFarlane Productions as the first KISS comic not published by Marvel Comics. Marvel had previously published KISS comics in 1976, '78, and '96, but according to KISS frontman and lead singer Gene Simmons, a switch has been made to McFarland out of "respect for what he's done, and a longtime admiration of his Spawn comic." Simmons also said the theme of the comic is inspired by a KISS tour idea. "The concept came from us," he said. "'The Psycho Circus' is a tour theme we're working on, and we may even use the title for an album."
In comic format, Circus brings readers "modern-day gothic horror in the essence of KISS," said Beau Smith, Todd McFarlane Productions sales and marketing director, who actually pitched in to help write issue #1. "A traveling circus of the damned, which includes the band members, travels the country and encounters different people in different situations. The stories will be similar to the old EC Comics horror titles of the '50s, because at the end, there will be some sort of reward or punishment for the characters based on the circumstances."
The ongoing monthly title will be plotted by KISS and McFarlane, and scripted by Brian Hogun (Cyberforce). The art is being handled by Angel Medina (Incredible Hulk) and Kevin Conrad (Spawn), with legendary cover man Michael Golden supplying covers.
The plotting process, according to Simmons, is a very cooperative one.
"We play ball," he said. "I throw something to Todd, he throws it back. I'm always kept in the loop, but I leave Todd to his own devices when it comes to actual production and taking things the final step. I think what he does, he does out of a love for comics. And that's a love I share."

  • KISS Anti-drug commercials!
    From: Fusion
I was watching WGN tv out of Chicago yesterday, and they had a small piece on Kiss. Seems that they are doing some kind of anti-drug promotion for television. Several commercials have been made with different people in them, but this one is all Kiss. They didn't show the whole thing - just a couple of shots from the commercial, without the sound. One shot was a full stage shot from the reunion tour, and then it showed Paul, in makeup, talking by himself about drugs (I suppose that is what he was talking about, since there was no sound). So it is cool that they are doing something like this for the public. Good to see them doing something regular on television, too!

From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
Found out a bit more on the KISS animated short, Action League Now. It's just 5 minutes long, and KISS recorded voices for it during the tour, in Germany. It will eventually be shown on TV, as part of the Nickelodeon program Kablam! They're sending me slides for delivery tomorrow.

  • "Black Diamond" book news
    From: Dale Sherman
Just wanted to let you know that I saw the book today at Border's and I had heard from someone who had seen it at Barnes & Nobles today as well. So the book is finally hitting the shelves.
It is still a good idea for people interested to ask at the counter if they cannot find it on the shelves. Many books are going to fulfill backorders, so there may not be many to go on the shelves.
Meanwhile, I have heard that Walden's has picked up the book (finally). They should have it in their stores in about 2-3 weeks.
Finally, my publisher is in the mist of chaning their server and now a temporary address. It is:
    http://www.globalserve.ne/~cgp
After July 7th, it will be: http://www.cgpublishing.com
And their new e-mail is: cgp@globalserve.net
Beyond that, everything is looking good for the Detroit KISS Expo coming up on the 13th!

  • New KISS Ties
    From: Brian Welch
Just thought I would let you know that this morning, July 2, 1997, I heard on the local Birmingham AL station Rock 99 that the new Kiss ties were out. They featured this on the morning drive news update. They gave the manufacturers name but I didn't catch it. They said they will cost around $30. Unfortunately they didn't tell where we could buy them. I was hoping that maybe you could give me some more info on the deal. They said there were supposed to be several designs, some with autographs of the band members.

It cost $17.99 to order it directly from Ralph Marlin, $21.99 with shipping and handling. To order, Ralph Marlin's number is 1-800-922-8437.

  • KISS in the Psycho Circus
    From:Shawn
Hi this is Shawn, once again, and I have some interesting news for you. I was with my mother buying us lunch at the local McDonald's. Since it wasn't a special day or anything I was wearing my 70's style Alive/Worldwide shirt, when this guy kept staring at it. He gets his food and starts walking towards me, asks me if i saw KISS live or if I was just wearing the shirt for shits and giggles. I informed him about all three times I saw the reunion.
He told me he was seeing him in San Diego to do some business with them. When I asked what business he said that he was drawing the first issue of PSYCHO CIRCUS. We went to his table and he opened up his attache and showed me the last three pages of the comic which kicks the shit out of KISSNATION. The artist was Angel Medina, who lives in Aurora, Illinois which is where I live, and drew Silver Surfer for a while for Marvel. Pretty cool huh, and I thought it was just another trip to Mickey D's.
