PAUL STANLEY’s Memoir ‘Face The Music: A Life Exposed’: Book Cover Unveiled

Blabbermouth

paulstanleyfacethemusicbookcoverKISS frontman Paul Stanley‘s memoir, “Face The Music: A Life Exposed”, will be released on April 8 via HarperOne The 432-page hardcover will feature rare photographs of the legendary rocker and detail his hard-partying lifestyle as one of the co-founders of the heavy rock band who has sold over eighty million albums and performed more than two thousand shows around the world.

The cover for “Face The Music: A Life Exposed” can now be seen below.

Stanley explained to The Pulse Of Radio that if his book was going to follow the pattern of some of the other books he’s read, he would’ve passed on writing it all together. “I think I took a tact different than a lot of these books,” he said. “Y’know, rock n’ roll autobiographies tend to be a love letter — to the author. And they tend to be about how smart and creative and how this person was responsible for the creation of the world. And if that were the tact for the book, I never would’ve written the book.”

In “Face The Music”Stanley talks frankly about his early struggles with hearing — he was born with Level 3 Microtia and is deaf in his right ear. Microtia is a congenital deformity of the cartilage of the outer ear that can affect normal hearing.

Stanley, who grew up half-deaf and scarred with a deformed right ear, explained to The Pulse Of Radio that by touching upon the more difficult episodes in his life, he’s not seeking sympathy from the reader, but simply highlighting the path into who he became. “Y’know, my book is about my life starting from the very beginning and certainly a certain amount of adversity and having a birth defect and being deaf on one side and the family that I came from,” he said. “Certainly people have had more adversity in their lives — and some less — but I, I would think some people would get a certain amount of inspiration and a sense that positivity and belief in yourself will ultimately lead you to a great place.”

Humperdinck and Simmons in duet

Independent

PANews_P-8e1fa2fe-158a-4021-9f0f-34f10b88f128_I1Veteran star Engelbert Humperdinck has teamed up for an unlikely duet with the rock idol Gene Simmons, the frontman of Kiss.

The pair – who look curiously similar in a promotional shot together – have teamed up for Engelbert‘s album of duets which will come out in March.

The duo with a combined age of 141, both famed for many years as lotharios, have recorded a version of the song Spinning Wheel, known for its “what goes up, must come down” lyric.

The album – Engelbert Calling – sees him performing with a succession of familiar names including Smokey RobinsonWillie Nelson, Charles Aznavour, Sir Elton John and Sir Cliff Richard.

Gene, 64, said of his collaborator: “The Hump rocks. Wanna see how it’s done? Let Engelbert Humperdinck show you.”

Engelbert – who is known for hits such as The Last Waltz – was inspired to make the album after he heard a quote from Sir Elton John recalling the days as a struggling songwriter saying “you would sit in your flat waiting for the phone to ring – waiting for Engelbert Humperdinck to call”, so he did just that.

He said of working with Gene: “I had an absolute blast recording and measuring tongue sizes with Gene Simmons. He won – just. It’s been a labour of love and I’m truly proud of how it’s turned out.”

Engelbert, who famously finished last as the UK entrant at Eurovision in 2012, has also performed with Kenny RogersNeil SedakaRon Sexsmith andAndrea Corr among others for his album, which comes out on March 17.

Paul Stanley Sings The National Anthem at Dodger Stadium – Interview Included (August 25, 2013)

Jampi1996

Finally, the professional version of this video has surfaced. Shot back in August, we originally posted a video shot from the crowd which was a far cry from this mint piece of video. Paul doesn’t sing in his usual “Rock and Roll voice”, but in a deep, melodic voice appropriate to the material – definitely something to check out!

Kenneth Anderson, stage production manager for rock band Kiss in its ’70s heyday, dies at 75

Howard Cohen | Miami Herald

1aOT00.St.56Before Kiss, no rock group had ever put quite as much emphasis on the outrageous while onstage.

It was up to Kenneth Anderson to make those wild antics happen.

Anderson, who died of cancer at 75 on Dec. 15 at his Hallandale Beach home, was vice president of Aucoin Management in New York and helped design Kiss’ stage productions from 1976 to 1982.

This was the era when the hard rock foursome’s theatrical shows were evolving at a crazy, scary pace. A fire-breathing bassist. A levitating drum set. Flashing lightning bolts. Confetti rockets.

Kiss’ most elaborate stage design, to that time, for its ‘Love Gun’ Tour in 1977 was partly the creation of Kenneth Anderson who, as head of stage production, took the band’s outlandish ideas and made them work.

Kiss’ most elaborate stage design, to that time, for its ‘Love Gun’ Tour in 1977 was partly the creation of Kenneth Anderson who, as head of stage production, took the band’s outlandish ideas and made them work.

“Don’t try to describe a Kiss concert if you’ve never seen it,” South Florida troubadour Jimmy Buffett once quipped in his 1978 tune, Mañana. He was clearly referencing Anderson’s stage designs. These came from ideas that were coming fast and furious from band leaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

“I remember coming home one night and Gene [Simmons] told dad he has this new idea and dad would have to figure it out,” said daughter Julie Pisano of Palm Beach Gardens. “Gene wants to fly over the audience. {Anderson’s] job was to make the show a reality.”

The rock group dreamed up over-the-top stage designs, pyrotechnics and elevated ramps, used on its tours for the Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, Love Gun and Dynasty albums.

Anderson had to make it all happen.

Pisano, 50, then an impressionable teenager, laughs when she remembers her father’s adventures on stage with Kiss that stretched from South Florida’s defunct Hollywood Sportatorium to Japan’s Budokan Hall in 1977.

The New York rockers wore towering platform boots so getting them to walk on the stage, let alone fly above it, was quite the task.

Chris Czynszak | Decibel Geek

Ep120-ArtThe Decibel Geek podcast returns this week with the second half of an in-depth discussion with former KISS keyboardist Gary Corbett; Episode 120 – Gary Corbett Part 2

In this long-form discussion, Corbett shares insider details of inner-band turmoil in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s including tension between founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

Corbett also addresses rumors that have swirled for 20+ years about Eric Carr’s status in the band during his final years and gives his take on what was going on at the end of Eric’s life.

Another subject covered in this hour-plus conversation is Corbett’s objection to certain stories portrayed in The Eric Carr Story; a book by Greg Prato in which Corbett is quoted.

Other topics discussed include half of KISS donning makeup for the ‘Rise to It’ video, the band’s club tour to promote Revenge, and Corbett’s ongoing friendship with current KISS drummer Eric Singer and an icy reception from Paul Stanley to Corbett backstage at a recent KISS show in Nashville, TN.

The Decibel Geek podcast started in April of 2011 and is released weekly with music and discussion of hard rock and heavy metal. Hosted by Chris Czynszak and Aaron Camaro, the Decibel Geek podcast has interviewed rock legends and personalities spanning 4 decades.
