See ACE FREHLEY Perform During Ohio Bike Week

Fan-filmed video of Ace Frehley‘s May 31 concert at the Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky, Ohio can be seen below.

The original KISS guitarist played his song “Cherry Medicine” live for the first time during his concert on May 26 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Frehley released the official music video for “Cherry Medicine” in February. The clip was directed by Justin H. Reich of Three Thirty-Three Creative and produced by Reich and Steve Seabury.

Classic Album Review: Gene Simmons | ***Hole

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

I
couldn’t say for sure whether Gene Simmons truly lives up to the title of his new CD. But I can tell you this: He’s no dummy.

For 30-plus years, the fire-breathing bassist has been the biggest, brashest loudmouth in KISS; a shrewd huckster and master manipulator who seldom misses a chance to bag a buck. But like a lot of wealthy folk, Simmons sometimes seems to confuse the size of his wallet with the breadth of his talent, ability and intellect. Thus we end up with high-aiming misfires like Music From The Elder, the first KISS solo albums (minus Ace‘s ace in the hole, of course) and ***Hole, Gene’s first non-band recordings in more than 25 years.

Kiss Is Still Hitting New Highs On The Billboard Charts Following Their Retirement

Kiss officially called it a day at the end of 2023, much to the dismay of many of their fans. The band has stepped away from touring and making new music, but that doesn’t mean their following is done consuming their work in huge numbers. This week, one of the group’s most beloved tunes soars again on one Billboard chart, reaching a new peak.

“I Was Made for Loving You” jumps up the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this frame. The tune lifts from No. 9 to No. 3 on Billboard’s list of the bestselling tracks in the country that can be classified as hard rock in style and sound.

No. 3 now stands as the loftiest position yet for “I Was Made for Loving You.” The track has only spent half a dozen weeks on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list, with several of those being in the past month or so as the tune enjoys something of a comeback.

“When I sign any guitar I buy, it doubles or triples in price. So I always make money on any guitar I’ve bought”: Ace Frehley on his greatest gear finds – and the guitars he regrets selling

Ace Frehley

Ace’s established live setup is a Les Paul, a cranked Marshall and a whole lotta attitude (Image credit: Gary Miller)

We’ve heard a lot from the resurgent Ace Frehley, whether he’s shooting down Kiss mythssharing his solo philosophy, or admitting he should have practiced more as he promotes raucous new album 10,000 Volts.

But there’s a reason we keep Frehley on speed-dial: the guy has truly seen and done it all.

The band Paul Stanley said influenced “everything that everybody does” in modern music

KISS is hardly a conventional band. To say that they have been directly influenced by one musical outfit or another would be a stretch, given their style and sound, which are so individualistic, set them apart from so many other bands who were making music at the time. It’s still the case now: The Kiss imagery is iconic, and no band has come close to being so recognisable based on appearance alone. However, even their lead singer, Paul Stanley, admits that the band had an evident influence.

“They wrote the book,” he said, attending a celebration for Led Zeppelin. Stanley wasted no time in revealing his adoration for the band, which many consider to be the cornerstone of rock music. However, Stanley’s admiration went far beyond what they did within the realm of rock.

Rock & Brews to open Grapevine, TX location in July

Rock & Brews is expected to open its brand-new Grapevine location with 7,000 square feet of indoor seating and 5,500 square feet of indoor/outdoor patios just in time for the Fourth of July.

Rock & Brews is a national chain of rock ‘n’ roll-themed restaurants, co-founded by KISS frontmen and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, a company news release states.

The Grapevine location will feature the chain’s signature menus, which includes classic American fare, beer, wine and cocktails.

The grand opening event on Tuesday, July 2, will feature the band Texas Flood performing from 9 p.m. to closing. Prior to that, the location will host a charity night June 28 with benefits supporting Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange, or GRACE.

The Grapevine location is expected to create more than 100 local jobs.

The opening act nobody wanted to follow, according to Paul Stanley

Kiss is one of the live bands that other acts were absolutely terrified to follow. It wasn’t just that their songs were great; the make-up, overall look of the group, pyrotechnics, and infectious stage presence meant that audiences were hooked the moment they went on stage. There is a reason that people fill their houses with Kiss memorabilia and have followed the band on tour; put simply, they couldn’t get enough.

They open every gig with, “You wanted the best, you got the best,” and subsequently, they had high standards when it came to live shows. As such, any musical outfit they were scared to follow must be a band worth their salt. While there are few outfits Kiss wouldn’t consider themselves capable of going toe-to-toe with, Paul Stanley reflected on the sheer power that Van Halen had in their sound and why bands were terrified of having them open.

Ace Frehley says his doctor told him: “You seem to be ageing in reverse”

What’s the secret to carving a long-lasting and productive music career? A commitment to health and wellness would be a good start, according to former Kiss axeman Ace Frehley.

Since leaving Kiss for the second and final time in 2002, Frehley has been prolific, having released nearly half a dozen solo albums in the past decade alone.

Asked what he attributes his productivity to in a recent interview with Goldmine magazine, the guitarist replies: “Losing 45 pounds, exercise, taking my vitamins, eating organically and working out.”

3 Eternal Classic Rock Songs from KISS

KISS. The face-painting, pyrotechnic-happy, spectacle-performing rock band from New York City will live on throughout history. Not just for their holograms but for their style, look, demeanor, and power-punch sound. Brash and bodacious, KISS is as much a beacon of volume and electricity as it is a group of musicians.

As a result, the band boasts at least a few songs that will stand the test of time. Whenever someone wants to bridge the world of professional wrestling with rock and roll, KISS songs will be at the top of the playlist. And here below, we wanted to dive into a trio of such tunes. Indeed, these are three eternal classic rock songs from KISS.

Fraley on Frehley: Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley joins WTOP as solo tour rocks Hollywood Casino

He shredded legendary rock riffs as the iconic lead guitarist of the classic metal band KISS.

Now, Ace Frehley bring his solo tour to Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races on Saturday, June 15.

“I’m not slowing down at all — if anything, I’m accelerating my career at this juncture in my life,” Frehley told WTOP. “Of course, I’ve got to do songs like ‘New York Groove.’ … You will hear me perform ‘Rock & Roll All Nite,’ you’ll hear me perform ‘Cold Gin,’ ‘Shock Me,’ ‘Rip It Out,’ all of the classic KISS songs, plus we’ll be doing ‘10,000 Volts’ off of the new album and ‘Cherry Medicine’ off of the new album.”

‘I Can Doctor It Up in the Studio, but All the Kids Are Going to Have the Original Concert, and They’ll Say, ‘This Isn’t Live”: Ace Frehley on Why He Refused to Do a New Live Album

Ace Frehley said he’s talked his record label out of doing a live album due to the omnipresence of fans filming shows with their phones and the inevitable surfacing of fan-filmed footage on the internet.

In the day and age when everyone and their grandmother has smartphones with competent cameras, the global music scene has been rife with discourse surrounding fan-filmed footage. While some still defend the concertgoers’ rights to capture snippets of live shows so they have something to remind them of the experience, others argue that the trend takes away from the “live” part of the show — which led some artists, with Jack White being one notable example, to introduce a “no phones” policy for their gigs.

Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer joins the Wild Things in the video for their new song “Breaking Madonna.” The guitarist performs alongside the up-and-coming UK band on top of a tour bus driving down through West Hollywood.

You can see the video below.

“It was a thrill to rock ‘Breaking Madonna’ with the Wild Things on top of a bus,” Thayer declared. “It doesn’t get any crazier than that! From the first minute I hard them play on the Kiss Kruise, I knew they were the real deal.”
