Simmons' On Extra
From: GeneSimmons.com
The EXTRA television people told me they were going to feature the "Life At Home With Gene etc..." starting Monday (today 4/29/02). It's undecided if there will be two segments (Monday and Tuesday) or whether it's going to be featured for the entire week. There is also the possibility the show will be broken up between this week and next week. Either way, it was invasive, but lots of fun. [Post Your Comments]

Independent KISS Film Looking For Funding
From: Don
An independent Kiss Army film is still currently underway intended for the die-hard Kiss fanatics. It's "The ultimate fanatic movie about the ultimate fanatics" about a couple of adults, members of the Kiss Army who are best friends and get together for a road trip to the final destination of the last ever Kiss show. Along the way they clash against one another, then clash against other members of Kiss fans, battling obstacles that stand in their way of reaching their "final destination" and will be a direct to video/dvd comedy flick and is sure to be a pleasure to the fans who appreciate the in-depths of Kiss and members of the Kiss fans, both old and new alike. (NOTE: We realize that by the description of the movie, "DETROIT ROCK CITY" comes to mind. IT'S NOTHING LIKE "DRC" AT ALL.") This is strictly a "For the fans, by the fans" movie and we are an independent New York based film company currently searching for an investor and/or investors for this "ultimate Kiss fan movie". For more info., contact ManorFilms@Eudoramail.com And for the many artists/musicians who have send us their music in consideration for the soundtrack, we greatly appreciate the response and have not forgotten any of you. Those who are selected for the soundtrack will be notified as soon as the selection process is completed. Thank you all for your interests, the attention has been awesome, and keep checking out Kissasylum.com for further ads in regards to the movie such as "Walk-ons, minor roles, opportunities to present us your own self-made Kiss artwork for possible use in the movie with other things to come, etc..." Rock on! [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons To Deliver Industry Talk At New Music West
From: Mike Nightingale
The New Music West industry conference has added Kiss bassist Gene Simmons as a second keynote speaker. The outspoken rocker, who recently penned a well-received tell-all book, will do an industry address at 1 p.m. on May 10 at the Commodore. Matthew Good is handling the artists' address during the same time frame. People wishing to attend the conference have until April 30 to get their $99 pass. The price goes up to $150 May 1 (and then to a hefty $200 once the conference starts May 8). Attendees just interested in hearing a whack of bands can pick up a $20 festival wristband, which will get you into the 30-plus NMW showcase venues (if you get to the clubs early enough, that is). Q&A With Gene Simmons
From: SoundSpike.com
In addition to being the singer, bassist and marketer extraordinaire for rock juggernaut KISS, Gene Simmons is also a self-proclaimed egomaniac. Based on his success, Simmons' overly healthy self-image is understandable. During its nearly 30-year career, KISS has earned the distinction of being, in Simmons' words, "the No. 1 American-band gold-record champions of all time. Worldwide, the Stones and the Beatles are ahead by a few." In addition to the recording success that KISS--which he co-founded in the early '70s with Paul Stanley (vocals-guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums)--has enjoyed, Simmons' greatest accomplishment might be his ability to pump up his bank account by marketing KISS merchandise of every imaginable sort: dolls, comic books, credit cards, $4,700 KISS Kaskets (seriously) and, soon, KISS Kondoms. The entrepreneurial rocker has also branched out by launching his own website, starting a new magazine titled "Gene Simmons Tongue" (the first issue hits stands on June 4), inking numerous development deals in Hollywood, and releasing in late 2001 a tell-all autobiography titled "KISS and Make Up." In the book, he dishes the dirt on KISS' inner-turmoil, with particularly unflattering attention given to Frehley and Criss. On Thursday (4/18), Simmons talked to SoundSpike about the book, the ongoing turmoil in the group, the status of the long-delayed "Alive IV" album, and a number of other topics on which he offered his characteristically pointed opinion; he also hinted--briefly--at his future plans in the music business. KISS Alive IV In Europe
From: Joop
KISS Alive IV will finally be out on July 16 in Europe. The inlay will be slightly updated (with a few new photos and some of the new merchandise) from the version that had been made for the original release two and a half years ago. But the really good news is that the album will include two brand new songs, that the band are working on right now. In other European KISS news, the Live In Las Vegas DVD will be distributed in Holland after all and should be available shortly. [Post Your Comments]

Fan Report Of KISS On American Bandstand TV Taping
From: Kevin
Hello all! I bet you are wondering what happened at Bandstand! Did Ace show up? Did PETER play? What song did they play? Did they play Live or...? OK Lets start with the Ace thing! Ace was not there! Very lame. I think it was Thayer but who knows. If it was he had a wig cause his hair was straight like Ace, but that was it. He was OK but not having Ace there took away from the show! It was like a KISS Trubute band. Funny thing was that there was a KISS tribute band in the back that had a better looking Ace than KISS had! OK next Peter was not there of course, everyone knew that and they played "Detroit Rock City"! I have never heard that one before! They played to a backing track that had everything including background vocals. Paul was the only live mike. He sounded great though! Very cool performance from Paul. It was very short, one take. One extra take at the end to get the audience shots; that is when they played the backing track without any vocals exept the background vocals. Lots of Pyro, small stage, and only about 300-400 people were there, maybe the first 15 rows were filled! But as far as KISS without Peter and Ace in Makeup it was good, but you defenatley miss them. Show stared fast and about 15 minutes after we got there KISS was done and they had to break for 1 1/2 hrs to strike all the KISS gear! Very cool though! [Post Your Comments]

KISS' Lineup In Question For Television Special
From: Soundspike.com
KISS is scheduled to tape its performance for next month's broadcast of "American Bandstand 50th" on Friday (4/19), but guitarist Ace Frehley may not participate. "We don't know [if Ace will be at the taping]," founding member Gene Simmons said on Thursday (4/18). "I'd be happy if he was. We sent a limo." Simmons--who, in his recent autobiography "KISS and Make Up," criticized Frehley for what he described as the guitarist's poor work ethic and unreliability--said that the current situation is not a new one. "It's been 30 years of this, the ups and downs," Simmons said. "Ace is a rollercoaster. You know, it goes up, it goes down... but it sure is a ride, I'll tell you that." Simmons said the band does have a replacement guitarist handy for the event should Frehley pull a no-show. "There's always somebody," Simmons said. "We always have a spare tire. This is not the first time, nor the last time." Simmons did not identify the understudy, but did say that it isn't one-time KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, who was with the group from the mid-'80s until the original lineup--Simmons, Frehley, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss--reunited in the mid-'90s. Numerous fan postings at KISS' official website speculate that guitarist Tommy Thayer, one of the group's longtime collaborators, is Frehley's replacement. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Live Kiss Thought Vault II Added to NJ Kiss Expo
From: Ron Albanese and KISS ASYLUM
It's back: The second Live Kiss Thought Vault will be taking place at the 16th annual NJ Kiss and Hard Rock Convention in Hackensack, NJ on Sunday, April 28. This "son of the Kiss Thought Vault" (hey, if there can be a "mother of all box sets" ...) expands the written Vault concept by bringing together Kiss fans into a round table, off-the-cuff discussion of Kiss-related topics among five panelists and the audience (dust off and read the original press release here: 2000 Live Vault release). This is the place and event to show off your Kiss Army stripes and put forth your opinion, and it's all in good fun. When first staged in 2000, the Live Vault was a hit, and we all ended up laughing our heads off (my report on that is here: 2000 Live Vault Report,), and some guy compared the Farewell tour to Elvis' 1968 Comback Special. If you're attending the convention, this is an event you certainly do not want to miss ... or perhaps not be a part of, as a couple of panelists are still needed (how about a female?). If you are up to Kiss-nut snuff, and don't mind getting up in front of an audience, get in touch. (Even if you just hang in the crowd, you can still have you say, as we have a microphone there, too). So, did Vinnie save Kiss with his riffs? Did the Mego dolls get released with different packaging in Malaysia? See you at the Expo for the Live Kiss Thought Vault! [Post Your Comments]

Montreal KISS Expo News
From: Patrick Demontigny
Hello KISS fans! Great news! The 4th Montreal KISS Expo is all set to take place on September 8, 2002, from 11:00 am to 8:00pm. The location is still to be confirmed, but that should be done next week. We can assure you this though, if we can get the room we are trying to get, it will blow away any expo done in the past here! Special guests and tribute band are still to be confirmed but as soon as everything is a deal, we will post the news! We can however confirm the following: for the first time ever, there will be VIP passes available for people who want to get in 45 minutes before the doors officially open to the public. This will give VIP ticket holders a chance to get a look at rare KISS merchandise first, to watch the tribute do their soundcheck and maybe to meet a special guest before the scheduled appearance! The passes themselves will become collector's items! These are limited to 50! As soon as they will be available, we'll let you know! Also, we will have a KISS look-alike contest! You will be able to win collectibles, gift certificates and all kinds of things! The first 100 people will get a free gift! Hourly door prizes too! There will be the KISS collectibles display with ultra rare items! This year's show will be the best one yet! For more info and updates, please visit our website at www.kissexpo.com. Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
Hello everyone, Just back from a clinic tour for ESP guitars in the Ohio area, and I want to thank the stores, fans, and friends I met and played for during my trip. I had a great time, and I must thank Rob Joseph, the ESP rep, for taking me everywhere and being my friend on the road. Lots of cool guitar and music stories were shared! Started off in Pittsburgh, went to Wheeling WV, and then Columbus, and Mansfield Ohio. It was great to field the questions about KISS and my instuments and talk about my solo disc, Audio Dog. Of course the playing was my highlight and if you caught one of these you know they are a cool way to catch me play up close. I have one more coming up this month in Ft Lauderdale on the 28th of April, at Mars Music 3PM sharp. For fans in Southwest, GFR is playing in Las Vegas and Laughlin NV on the 25th and 26th of April, so look those dates up. We are playing that new song I wrote with Max now in the set, so check that out. (Who Took Down The Stars). [More...] [Post Your Comments]

News Update From Gene Simmons
From: GeneSimmons.com
John Herzfeld came up to the house. John has directed 2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY and 15 MINUTES (DeNiro and Ed Burns). We tossed around some ideas and then went with my son Nick and his friend to a local deli to grab a bite. Ran into John Voigt, who's always been nice to us and even Paul Stanley. I get to meet all the stars!!! On a separate note, I have made a concerted effort not to use this site (GeneSimmons.com) as a discussion forum re what's happening in the middle East. In the past, I have also decided not to use this site to discuss 9/11. I'm sure we all have very passionate points of views regarding these and other subjects. Perhaps I'm wrong, but my sense is you want this site to be chatty and loose. I'm sure you get enough of my "sermons" on religion, sociology and ethics. I don't mind discussing those issues, because they are general in tone. When a something is subject specific, it tends to inflame people one way or the other. I suggest you all read the NY Times, watch the news and make up your own minds. And, we'd appreciate it if you send us photos of yourselves, your collections etc. The letter column looks alot better with photos, don't you think? A few days ago, met with PLAYBOY execs over a new project I am creating/producing for them called GROUPIES (tentative title.). I shot the project originally as a pilot for HBO. Interestingly enough, I was more prudish about the content. HBO wanted to show as much as possible and I wanted the show to be more documentary in style and less "shocking." ....less Jerry Springer and more Discovery Channel. Suffice it to say, the show will include real beautiful women (not actresses) and rock stars. Went up to the Playboy Mansion for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It's actually quite a site. Mommies and the kiddies all get together and hunt for eggs. However, most of the mommies are former Playmates. Most mommies do not look like this. It's quite a sight. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

"KISS Alive IV" Coming This Summer?
From: Launch.com / Yahoo.com
It looks like the long-awaited Kiss live album will finally be released. LAUNCH.com has learned that Alive IV, which was expected to come out when Kiss began its Farewell tour in March 2000, is in the pipeline for this summer, with August 20 rumored as the street date. It's unclear whether or not the album will be issued under the Mercury label, or another imprint in the Island/Def Jam group. Singer-guitarist Paul Stanley told LAUNCH about his frustration in not having released the album yet. "Kiss Alive IV is really sitting and waiting for its time to come, and it definitely will come," he said. "There was a significant amount of red tape and business complications, which are totally contrary to the idea of rock 'n' roll. I'm in a rock 'n' roll band to play rock 'n' roll, not to sit across from somebody at a desk and try to negotiate a deal. That being said, I will sit at the desk as long as necessary to make sure that everybody gets what they're due." There's no word on where or when the next round of Kiss Farewell tour dates will take place. [Post Your Comments]

KISS: Behind The Comic
From: Comicon.com
KISS Comic Dark Horse has just solicited the debut issue of its KISS comic book revival, and the publisher has provided Newsarama with a preview of J. Scott Campbell's cover to issue #1 and a few b&w preview images of interior artist Mel Rubi's pencils. Plus, we hooked up with writer Joe Casey for a quick Q&A regarding his plans for the series. "The most ass-kicking rock band returns to comics, written by the most rockin' of young comics writers. Joe Casey (Superman, Wildcats, X-Men) presents a bold new direction for KISS," reads DHC's solicitation copy of the July-shipping issue #1. "Years after the split-up of these four superpowered warriors, they've followed very separate paths. The Demon is a bounty hunter; The Starchild lives with a race of women warriors in South America; The Spaceman is cruising the solar system with no human contact; and The Catman's getting in touch with his bestial side. "When Catman finally goes too far, the others know they have to band together to save the Catman' s humanity. But there's another hand at work, pushing the Four Who Are One into a corner. This new comic, overseen by Gene Simmons, turns the ultimate rock-and-roll icons into the ultimate superhero team." [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons News Update

Gene Simmons Tongue
Gene Simmons Tongue Magazine Premiere Issue [More...]
Went to Diana Ross' birthday party in Malibu with Miss Shannon Tweed. Interestingly enough, for those of you who haven't read my book KISS AND MAKEUP, Shannon and Diana are sisters in law!!! When I first met Shannon, I was coming off my relationship with Diana. One didn't know the other. After I moved in with Shannon, Diana told me that, unbeknownst to both of us, Diana's brother married Tracy, Shannon's sister. The party was a hoot. Damian (3,000 MILES TO GRACELAND direc) Liechtenstein, Kevin Costner, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and lots of interesting people. Flew down to the University of Florida to give a lecture. I made no notes and no clue what I was going to talk about. The results were probably a mixture of a motivational speaker/comedian. My "shpiel" usually starts with where I came from and the wonders of America. It usually takes a far left or far right turn, depending on the audience and then what comes out of my mouth is as much a surprise to me as it is to them. I loved it. While at the hotel, while I was signing some posters for people, I looked up to see former Presidential hopeful George McGovern reaching out his hand. We sat, exchanged pleasantries and autographs. KISS Guitar Tabs
The #1 source for KISS Guitar and Bass tabs on the internet! A great resource for those KISS fans that can wield an ax!

KISS Album Focus
Exploring the history of the band through each album release. You'll be able to find out the logic behind the releases, what was going on in the band during the recording of albums, what the band was up to in the period leading up to studio time, and lots more information which should be of interest to the diehard fan!

Sound Off KISS Army
KISS ASYLUM wanted to open the door to other writers out there and give them a place where they can voice their opinions about KISS. We bet there are more than a few of you who have at least one KISS related topic burning in you that you'd love to write a one time piece about. Well, KISS ASYLUM is happy to bring to you a forum in which to do so in our new feature "SOUND OFF!" KISS ARMY.

KISS Thought Vault
The "Summertime Memories" Kiss Thought Vault finds Ron Albanese waxing nostalgic over summers past, by way of release dates and pinball. A certain starry-eyed little girl also secures her place in Vault history. Also mentioned: The Harlem Globetrotters.

KISS Video Spotlight
What I have in store for you is a real treat. What you are about to read is an interview I recently completed with WNEW DJ (and fellow NJ resident) Ed Trunk.
