I became a KISS fan in the late 1980s. I was probably 9 or 10 years old. The first album I bought was Hot in the Shade, though soon after that purchase I began to learn of the band's history through the Smashes, Thrashes & Hits CD. As I quickly added the entire back catalog to my collection, guitarist ACE FREHLEY emerged as my favorite band member. I was drawn to the darker, heavier edge of the songs he wrote, especially in the band’s early days. PAUL STANLEY and GENE SIMMONS wrote many songs I will love until the day I die, but Ace’s material stands out and is not as easily placed in the time in which it was written. To this day, he is undervalued as a songwriter within KISS and underrated as a lead guitarist.

Naturally, I jumped at the chance to attend the first show of Frehley’s winter "Rocket Ride" tour, which is intended to precede the release of a new solo album in 2008. Opportunities to see a legend in such an intimate venue—Jaxx holds only a few hundred people—are few. Though not without the expected opening night hiccups, the performance showed Ace doesn't need to share the spotlight with anyone to entertain.

But these days, KISS guitarist PAUL STANLEY is reinventing himself as a painter, putting acrylic on canvas in a private studio next to the pool behind his posh Beverly Hills home.

The 55-year-old front man for the legendary makeup-wearing rock band has produced about 30 pieces that are being sold in galleries across the country. He is finding a receptive audience.

Saw Ace at Jaxx Friday night... He was on fire. Band was tight, Ace looked great, played well & intereracted well with the crowd. The set list is below. The last song was Cold Gin and they actually used the Black Diamond ending which was awesome..There was an inpromptu short jam leading into Shock Me which was about 2 minutes..

The December 2007 issue of Classic Rock magazine features the story "Rock's Sonic Architect" in which a number of musicians pay tribute to LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, the man who many believe shaped the very sound of rock music.

In the article, KISS guitarist/vocalist PAUL STANLEY had the following to say regarding Page's influential guitar-playing style:

"What was interesting about the guitar players in THE YARDBIRDS is how they all took their love of the blues and took it in different directions, particularly when you listen to Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, who seemed less purist and more adventurous. It's interesting to note that both THE JEFF BECK GROUP, which he formed after his stint in THE YARDBIRDS, and LED ZEPPELIN came about at virtually the same time. LED ZEPPELIN's first show as LED ZEPPELIN was October of 1968, and they were rehearsing before that. The Jeff Beck ['Truth'] album came out in August '68. So both, in a sense, were incubating at the same time.

I trust you all are having a great holiday with friends and family and I hope you all can be happy for whatever blessings in life you really have. Perfect example for me to share is my brother (Bob Kulick) breaking his leg doing what he loves to do, playing softball, on Sunday, December 16th and then realizing he was to be in the hospital for four days. He became a bionic man, with a titanium rod and plate in his leg, and will have a lengthy rehabilitation, which is something very new to him. He remembered four years ago when I was injured by a crazed gunman shooting me through the leg, and grazing my temple, that I could help him understand being in the emergency room and what may follow.

Actually, Bob has a bit more rehab than even I had, although I had knee surgery four months after taking the bullet through my thigh muscle, as I twisted that knee pretty bad. Elective surgery was my situation, but Bob did great two days after he broke both bones in his left leg, and he is doing well all things considered. His doctor expects a full recovery. So once again, be grateful for all you can do, like walk up and down stairs, and all the other simple things we take for granted. And remember to take good care of your health, as my brother will recover more quickly because he is in good shape. Seeing our parents struggle, as fortunate as we are to have them around, has always been tough on our nerves.

ACE FREHLEY is a long way from wanting to rock 'n' roll all night and party every day.

He still likes the ''rock 'n' roll all night'' part -- as he will prove at Allentown's Crocodile Rock on New Year's Eve-- but the partying bit has grown stale for the former KISS guitarist.

''I'm doing well,'' he says in a thick Brooklyn accent from a New York City studio, dividing his attention between answering questions and working with a guitar roadie on modifying one of his trademark special-effects Les Pauls. ''I've been clean and sober for a long time now.''

Guitarist ACE FREHLEY will land on The NorVa stage Saturday night for a performance of KISS classics, Frehley's Comet nuggets and solo musical explorations.

The concert is part of a four-day mini-tour designed to propel his new solo quintet into the recording studio in January. His untitled full-length CD is scheduled for a March 2008 release.

Space Ace is a founding member of KISS, the makeup-wearing glam rock band made famous by their fiery, theatrical stage show and such hits as "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "Calling Dr. Love."

The December 2007 issue of Classic Rock magazine features the story of "the good times and bad times of LED ZEPPELIN — as seen through the eyes of rock's biggest stars." A couple of excerpts follow:

ACE FREHLEY (KISS): "That show at the Fillmore East [in New York on January 31, 1969] changed my life. I was 16 when I saw them. A lot of people didn't know who LED ZEPPELIN were, although the 'in' people did. The lead singer in the group that I was playing with at the time, who was a couple of years older than me, told me, 'There's this great new band called LED ZEPPELIN that's gonna play at the Fillmore East and you've gotta see them.' I think I got their first album a week or two before the show and I fell in love with it.

"I was real excited about going to the show. I remember it like it was yesterday. They were using Rickenbacker amps, which you can't find anymore. Back then Page wasn't using a Les Paul, he was using a Telecaster. Between him and Robert Plant they destroyed. They took over the Fillmore East to the point where, after they went off and the headliner was coming on, half the people walked out and didn't come back. I still think about that first time I saw LED ZEPPELIN at the Fillmore from time to time. God, I wish somebody had a video camera back then; it was incredible."

Here are some pics taken during the ESP show in Mexico City 14th Dec 07 that I took personally. The band were on fire tearing through some KISS classics such as Watching You, God Gave Rock n Roll To You, War Machine, Unholy, Domino, Jungle, Nothing To Lose and Black Diamond to mention a few.

ERIC SINGER's drum solo was absolutely amazing. He played not only on his drumset but even got of his seat and starting drumming on the floor and on the microphone.

SEAN JERIC - My biggest question surrounds the 1996 Tiger Stadium (Detroit, Michigan) show. I was in attendance back in 1996 and have always wanted to own a legitimate copy of this historic show on DVD. With the purchase of KISSology Volume 3 I was finally able to own a copy of the historic show, but I am quite honestly shocked and completely disappointed for a list of reasons that I think, in my opinion, you should shed some light on to us, the KISS ARMY community:

SEAN JERIC - The 10 to 30+ second blackout, with audio only (Paul talking to the crowd) between EACH song is extremely frustrating and not timed correctly (late music starts coming out of the blackouts). Based on current-day technology, it seems down-right peculiar to me as to why you (KISS) would allow such a thing to be released.

GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels follows the life of legendary KISS bassist and vocalist GENE SIMMONS, his longtime partner Shannon Tweed, and their two children, 18-year-old Nick and 15-year-old Sophie. Cameras follow Gene and his family around throughout their everyday lives. The series is similar to MTV's The Osbournes, since it does feature the real life of a rock star and his family. However, Gene and his family seem to enjoy being around each and hardly ever fight unlike the Osbourne family.

However, being famous has its privileges, as candidates try to use their contacts to sell wieners at $5,000 and $10,000 a pop. The stars not only bring out their famous friends (including New York Met David Wright ) to help, but they catch the eye of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. For the first time the 14 celebrities are stripped of their managers, personal assistants, agents, and publicists and are thrown out of their comfort zones. They quickly begin to size up each others egos, as they come face to face trying to split into two teams and choose team captains.

The concert promoter who’s being sued by the representatives of glam-rock band KISS said this week he doesn’t understand how he can be sued for breach of contract when he says a contract was never signed for the ill-fated September concert in Whistler, which was cancelled just 12 days before its scheduled date.

"We cancelled this concert because of lack of contracts. We could not come to an agreement on the content of the contract," said Dennis MacDonald, president of Vancouver-based Big Mountain Concert Company (BMCC). "We find it very interesting that someone has accused us of being in breach of a contract that never existed." MacDonald also clarified that it’s the band’s management and touring agents that are suing Big Mountain and MacDonald himself — not the members of KISS.

A statement of claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court on Nov. 28 by three separate Los Angeles-based companies seeks the $900,000 U.S. they allege was agreed to be paid for the 90-minute performance scheduled for Sept. 15, plus general damages and costs. The suit claims that the concert was cancelled by MacDonald and/or BMCC and the plaintiffs were willing and able to live up to their part of the agreement, including performing at the concert.

Wellington based promoter Capital C: Concerts plans to make ROCK2WGTH, a unique 'Rocktacular!', that will host some of the greatest legendary bands on the planet!

KISS will headline the first day at Westpac Stadium on March 22nd!

In addition to the 4-5 International rock bands, the event will feature local musicians and a special effects package that will set landmarks in concert production!

My wife, a friend and I went to see the Black 'N Blue reunion. It was an AWESOME Show! They raised Money for Kenny Norden who was once their roadie (he has cancer). They auctioned two guitars, one was signed by Black 'N Blue and the other was signed by KISS members. Before Black 'N Blue hit the state they raffeled off some KISS items including KISSology 1, 2 and 3 and a couple of t-shirts. Then they auctioned the Black 'N Blue signed guitar which went for $2,000.00. Then Black 'N Blue came on stage Tommy saw us and he gave us each a guitar pick and shook our hands.

I've mentioned this a couple of times already, but it bears repeating so I don't confuse anyone this month:

This month's KISS Web comic story has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with KISS 4K.

Instead, this month's story is about KISS themselves. It takes place in a (before now unrealized) great moment in Kisstory: December of 1977.

Kiss had just put out ALIVE II and Love Gun. The year after, they'd each record a solo record and film the infamous (yet entertaining) "KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park". A little later (in 1979) they would release "Dynasty"--which my friend Troy calls "The Disco Album". I kind of like it, myself.

If you can't tell by page one's art, it's gonna be a little cartoony. It's gonna be a little silly.

Most of all, it'll be fun!

Melrose Avenue will never be the same. The Dussault Apperal store, which celebrated its grand opening this past week, blocked off an entire section of Melrose specifically for the star-studded event. Founder, Chairman, and Chief Creative Officer Jason Dussault invited his close friends, GENE SIMMONS, Criss Angel, and others to celebrate the store opening where they celebrated in style.

Dussault Apparal seems more like a rocked-out motel than a clothing store. From a 70’s style diner to a roadside motel honeymoon suite to a motel checkout area, the store creates an atmosphere you won’t soon forget.

Jason Dussault has been working on the design for 8 months and the consensus is that it is the most unique experience for shopping in L.A.

KISS' management company suing for almost $1 million over cancelled Whistler concert

The management company handling the glam rock band KISS is suing a Vancouver concert promoter for almost $1 million for cancelling a concert scheduled for Whistler last Sept. 15.

In a statement of claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, McGhee Entertainment of Los Angeles claims the promoter, Big Mountain Concert Co. Inc, and its president Dennis MacDonald, agreed to pay $900,000 US for the band to perform a 90-minute concert in Whistler.

Australia's Bio channel, which AETN International has on pay platforms down under, will debut reality series GENE SIMMONS Family Jewels in the New Year.

Filling the weekly Wednesday 21.30 slot, the series will make its Australian premiere on January 9, offering a look into the life of the eponymous KISS frontman and his family. It originally aired stateside on A&E.

A crusade is looming as church groups prepare to take on heavy metal heavyweights poised to play in Wellington over Easter.

Wellington pentecostal church Lifepoint says the lineup of bands - including former bat-biter Ozzy Osbourne and KISS - are "not appropriate" and will have "negative influences" on the city during the two-day Rock2Wgtn festival on March 22 and 23.

They plan to lobby other church groups and will look at taking their concerns to Wellington City Council.

So filthy that a high-class refined person such as myself can't even mention the lines thrown, other than somebody said of one famous female name: "Her vagina is so large that the Verizon man couldn't get reception in certain parts." Another about another famous female: "Her private parts are used as a DNA base for 'Law & Order.' " And I don't remember - I think it might have been Carrot Top - who cracked about one closeted gay: "He couldn't be here tonight. He had an accident. Broke his hip falling out of the closet."

Even a broken shoulder couldn't stop former KISS manager Bill Aucoin from attending Paul's Art Show Saturday! As you can see in the photo, both Bill and Paul were wearing slings. Bill broke his shoulder in a fall on Friday, and Paul finally had surgery to repair a rotator cuff he tore years ago. He wore the sling for support and as a safety cushion from the large crowd.
