Kiss Sued By Company That Owns Publishing To Cooper Song
From: SonicNet via Steve Araki
Here is an article I saw on SonicNet concerning the lawsuit. It is very comprehensive
Contributing Editor Teri vanHorn reports:
Similarities cited between new tune by glam-rock band and ghoul-pop legend's hit, 'Eighteen.'
LOS ANGELES -- Singer/guitarist Paul Stanley and former guitarist Bruce Kulick of the theatrical, glam-rock band Kiss are being sued for copyright infringement over the song "Dreamin'", off the band's new album, Psycho-Circus. The publishing company that owns the rights to Alice Cooper's song "Eighteen" alleges that the new Kiss number is too similar to Cooper's 1971 hit. Six Palms Music Corp., which is the exclusive administrator of the Cooper song's publishing rights, claims that Stanley's familiarity with "Eighteen" is "unquestionable." According to Martin Keleti, the lawyer representing Six Palms, the reasoning is that Cooper and Kiss both came to fame in the early '70s and share relatively the same musical genre. "The song is substantially similar, strikingly similar -- it's a rip-off, if you will, of 'Eighteen,' " said Keleti, who practices in the Hollywood music-law firm Cohen and Cohen. Kiss' publishing company, PolyGram International, and record company, Mercury, are named in the suit along with Stanley and Kulick, who is the band's former axman and Stanley's current songwriting partner. The complaint was filed Oct. 21 in United States District Court in Los Angeles. Legal counsel for Kiss could not be reached for comment Thursday (Oct. 29). The band's Mercury publicist, Jolyn Matsumuro, had no comment. Keleti said the amount of the lawsuit will depend on the sales of Psycho-Circus, which, in concert and in its accompanying art, is being promoted as a 3-D rock experience. It is the first record in almost 20 years featuring Kiss' original lineup. "Depending on how good of a sell this is for Kiss, this could be hundreds or thousands of dollars," Keleti said.

The much anticipated 2nd installment of the KISS trading cards have finally arrived to retailers today. 90 cards make up the entire new set. There are nine cards to a pack, 36 packs plus one "box topper" pack to a box and 10 boxes to a case. Freak Show: Kiss Stay in Character for "Millennium" Appearance
From: RollingStone.com via star@kissonline.net
Here is an article I saw on Rolling Stone.com. It reads as follows:
"While they ain't exactly known for their subtlety, Kiss pulled the wig over everyone's eyes on a recent jaunt to Vancouver where they shot a Halloween episode for the sci-fi show Millennium. Lengthy-tongued bassist Gene Simmons spent a full day on set playing scar-faced character Hector Leachman without once divulging his true identity to anyone, not even when protective crew members told him to stay
away from the set's props and its star, Lance Henriksen. "I saw him trying to get into a piano room," confessed a staffer. "I promptly gave him a very dirty look and locked the door on him." The band admitted that they loved the opportunity to perform on
X-Files creator Chris Carter's other show. "Millennium stretches the limits and the boundaries between fantasy and reality," enthused Paul Stanley, "much like Kiss does. The cool thing was that rather than play ourselves in a recognizable state, we disguised ourselves once again, which is a way to give our fans something extra in guessing who's who." Leading man Henriksen was equally enthusiastic: "I never saw Kiss
before this show; I'm a total Kiss fan now. I've got an eleven-year-old daughter and I can't wait to bring her a guitar pick!" The episode, dubbed "Thirteen Years Later," will air on Fox on October 30th." -- DENISE SHEPPARD
KISS Prepares for Halloween Conquest
From: Wall of Sound.com via Steve Araki
Here is an article I found at Wall of Sound. It reads as follows:
"KISS' Gene Simmons says he wants the band to be "seen and heard everywhere, so
you can't escape us." That'll certainly be the case this weekend, when the Fox network practically turns into KISS-TV. The blitz begins at 9 p.m. EST Friday, when the group
guests‹both in and out of makeup‹on a special Halloween episode of the science fiction show Millennium. "This guy is having hallucinations, and there are people who are murdered mysteriously," Simmons explains. "Ultimately, this guy winds up in a KISS video shoot for Psycho Circus, so we're also in it in KISS makeup. I play a bum and then a killer, and I wind up killing myself and assuming my [onstage] identity." The KISS conquest of Fox continues at 11 p.m. Saturday, when the group makes cameos in several sketches on Mad TV, which is being hosted by Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund. And at midnight, Fox presents KISS Live: The Ultimate Halloween Party, a live broadcast of the group's concert at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. It will be tape-delayed for the West Coast. Viewers won't be able to catch the eye-popping 3-D effects KISS will be employing on the tour, but Simmons says the broadcast should offer a sense of what he and his bandmates consider the greatest show on earth. "We're going to take you away," Simmons tells Wall of Sound. "We showed a 3-D video at our press conference, and people just flipped. I was looking at them wearing the glasses, and you could see people's heads just shoot back at the same time as if someone was throwing a baseball at their heads. It's intense." --Gary Graff

Kiss, Alice Cooper In Legal Clash
From: Billboard Online via Steve Corral
Here is a report I found at Billboard online. It reads as follows:
Kiss, Alice Cooper In Legal Clash
Edited by Julie Taraska / October 28, 1998, 11:00 a.m. EST
Kiss members Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick are being sued for copyright infringement over the song "Dreamin'." The complaint alleges that the song
sounds too similar to the Alice Cooper hit "Eighteen." Billboard Bulletin reports
that Six Palms Music Corp., publisher of "Eighteen," which was written by
Cooper and his band, filed the complaint Oct. 21 in the U.S. District Court in Los
Angeles; the suit also names PolyGram International Publishing Inc. and Mercury Records. "Dreamin'," written by Stanley and Kulick, is a track from the new
Kiss album, "Psycho-Circus," released Sept. 22 on Mercury. Six Palms, which also does business as Bizarre Music, is seeking unspecified financial damages. Parties involved in the lawsuit did not return calls by deadline. -- Eileen Fitzpatrick, L.A
Kiss' Stanley, Kulick Sued Over Alice Cooper Copyright
From: MTV Online
Kiss frontman Paul Stanley and the band's former guitarist Bruce Kulick are being sued for copyright infringement by a music publishing company that claims a song on the group's new album is too similar musically to Alice Cooper's song "Eighteen." Six Palms Music Corp., which filed the complaint, claims that the Kiss song "Dreamin'" from the band's "Psycho Circus" album is a bit too close to the Cooper nugget. The company, which published the Cooper hit, alleges that Stanley (who co-wrote the song with Kulick) must have heard Cooper's 1971 classic track several times as the two groups rose together in the theatrical rock genre. Six Palms is seeking an unspecified dollar amount in the case. Also named as defendants are Polygram International Publishing, Inc., Hori Productions America, Inc., Robert Bruce Music Ltd., Abba-Cadaver Music, and Mercury Records. A spokesperson for both Kiss and Mercury Records had no comment on the suit, but did say that as of press time, the record label had not been served. The suit was filed on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, about a month after the release of "Psycho Circus." Kiss is currently gearing up to kick off their 3D world tour in support of the album on Halloween in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium with show openers the Smashing Pumpkins. A trial by jury is demanded in the suit.
KAOL KISS Tribute CD Update
From: Kathy LaBonte
The reissue of the original "KAOL - Music From the Folder", an Internet based Tribute CD released in 1997 by the KISS Army OnLine, is about to be released again! The disc has been remade and retitled "Music From The Folder '99". The song lineup has been altered with some brand new tunes, the rest of the original songs have been remixed and remastered, a 1967 rare recording of Eric with his high school band has been added, and a bonus track of a brief 1990 audio clip of Eric speaking shares a rare glimpse of him just a short year before his death . The cover art has been changed and the packaging improved considerably. Inside is an official KAOL/Eric Carr Signature Guitar Pick and chances to win other KAOL CDs. The new song lineup along with all of the latest info is up on the MusiCare Online website. http://www.musicareonline.org. I'd like to thank everyone who has pre-ordered the remaster disc. The response has been incredible and we've had more advance reservations for this disc than we had for the "Creatures of The Net" CD. Everyone who has ordered should have received their confirmation letter along with a cool little KAOL calendar. All pre-orders received by November 15th will have their discs shipped around Thanksgiving before it is released to the general public on January 2, 1999. So if you haven't ordered, do it now!

Dear members of the KISS Army:VH1 KISS Special 11/22
We have no plans to play KISS Psycho Circus because KISS fans are not MTV viewers. The market for KISS is so small that we feel that it is not benificial for MTV to play the video. KISS Psycho Circus sales is a great measurement of what MTV viewers think of KISS. The album appealed only to KISS fans and no one else. That is not the MTV audience and we do not plan on playing Psycho Circus until the album goes at least Gold. Thank you and please stop sending these e-mails. Once again, we will not play KISS.
Sincerely
David Garner, MTV Marketing Consultant
Psycho Circus Video News
From: Steve Fisk
Just talked to a Mercury rep about the video single. It's been pushed back to next Tuesday Nov. 3. The bonus CD was packaged wrong. The label side was mistakenly packaged facing inward, so that you couldn't see which band member's face you were getting. Approximately 20% of the product was shipped before the mistake was caught, so a few KISS fans will be able to buy the video now, but the rest of us will have to wait until next Tuesday.

Here are some pictures taken during KISS' performance on Millennium. It was shot in a club up in Vancouver called Rage. There were a couple hundred extras all dressed in costume to watch the band. It went really well, and was shot over 2 days. Each band member also does a cameo role without makeup, so watch out! Lance Henriksen had a blast with the guys as you can see in one picture. Enjoy!

Gene Interview in "The Island Ear"
From: kissguru@kissonline.net
The latest copy of The Island Ear, a Long Island, NY music weekly, features Kiss on the cover and an interview with Gene Simmons. Some interesting tidbits include:
Q: Many people feel Kiss has become more about the gadgets, toys, and other paraphernalia than the music. What's your reaction?
A: That's fine. It's called jealousy. When a guy works his ass off all his life and decides to buy a big house then everybody who drives by says, "Why does that house need to be so big? You don't need all that room!"
When asked about his opinion of today's music, Gene responded: "There is no music of today. The music of today has failed. Even though there is very good songwriting, there are no stars. You can be Green Day, who is a terrific little band ...and play to 1,000 people when your record sold 7 million, but then the fans are telling you something. You're writing good songs, but you're not a star.
KISS in TIME Magazine

The new issue of Time features GENE SIMMONS in the Q+A section by Joel Stein.
Here's the highlight:
Q: You sell a Kiss Visa card. That doesn't scream rock 'n' roll to me.
A: THAT DOESN'T MATTER. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. IT'S ABOUT ME. YOU'LL CATCH ON. HOW ABOUT PETER MAX LIFE-SIZE PORTRAITS OF THE BAND, 7 FT HIGH, 12 FT WIDE.
Q: How much can I get one of those for?
A: $550,000. WE'RE GOING TO MAKE A SERIES OF THEM.
Q: You should stick to the action figures.
A: I THINK I DO KISS BETTER THAN YOU DO.

3-D Psycho Circus Video Review
From: Peter Arquette
Just released! The video MTV has so far refused to play. This boxed release includes 3-D and 2-D versions of the Psycho Circus video, 3-D glasses and a special CD single of IN YOUR FACE, the song not available on the US release of the Psycho Circus CD.
This video is an incredible new way to look at this 25 year old band. Almost psychadellic with some decent 3-D effects. Really cool to see the boys jumping out of the screen at you! Also, the regular 2-D version is edited slightly different so you're not just watching the same thing twice. The bonus CD single is "enhanced" as was the full CD release with screen saver and connection to KISS' new server. And of course there are four different CD single covers to collect, so you have to buy four videos to have them all. CD is open on the bottom and covered with shrink wrap. You can kind-of see which CD you're getting but not if it's turned the wrong way. (Hard to explain, but there really is no special markings to tell which member's face is in which box). List price for this boxed video release is $16.98. You can buy it from the KISS MUSEUM for only $16. Send your e-mail address here to recieve ordering instructions for this incredible new video.
Halloween Gigs: Where To Go To Be Horrifically Entertained
From: MTV Online via Mike Hogan

Gene Simmons Real Audio Interview
From: Sean Cowie
Our local FM rock station in Vancouver, CFOX (http://www.cfox.com), has just posted an interview that Fox DJ Jeff O'Neil did with Gene Simmons when he was in town with the band filming the Millenium episode. Gene commands the interview and RELENTLESSLY plugs Psycho Circus. The direct link to the interview is http://www.cfox.com/specials/kissinterview/kiss.ram and you need at least version 5.0 of Real Audio to hear it. It is approximately 8 minutes long and is streaming.

Kiss Takes On Beanie Babies
From: MTV Online
KA Note: KISS fans online are being heard! A week or so ago KISS ASYLUM along with David Snowden Promotions gave the online fans a chance to vote on if you wanted KISS beanies to be made. The response was overwhelming and was passed onto the manufacturers. As you can see from this recent MTV News article the beanies are a "go!"
KISS Takes On Beanie Babies
"Even after turning up on Christmas ornaments, golf balls, credit cards, and a seemingly endless parade of merchandise, the guys in Kiss are still finding new things to put their faces on. The glam metal icons will take on the Beanie Babies with their own line of bean bag dolls, which fans can order through David Snowden Promotions (at www.davidsnowden.com). Individually, the four dolls are going for $13, but die-hards can order all four in a numbered limited edition set that comes complete with a "Psycho Circus" wagon for $100. The collectibles recently made a brief debut on the Home Shopping Netowrk, where they will turn up once again on October 29. In the meantime, Snowden's website is currently taking orders for the dolls, and plans to ship them in late November. Visitors to Snowden's website will also find an extensive collection of all things Kiss, including money clips, baseballs, telephones, coasters, ties, underwear, and even bottles of wine bearing the band's likeness. Fans will no doubt find a lot more Kiss gear when the band hits the road at the end of the month. The band has only announced a handful of dates for the tour, which kicks off with a live Halloween concert special from Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium carried on Fox. Tickets for the following dates go on sale this weekend:
11/12 - Boston, MA @ Fleet Center
11/22 - East Rutherford, NJ @ Meadowlands
11/23 - New York, NY @ Madison Square Garden

Kiss Crew Testing Staging At Hangar
From: Space Ace
I found this in the local paper the Press Enterprise this morning here in Southern California. Headline - Kiss Crew Testing Staging At Hangar
Kiss' Halloween concert at Dodger Stadium is such a big production that a 100,000-square-foot hangar at San Bernardino International Airport is being used for rehearsals just for some of the staging and lights. Neither the band nor its special 3-D effects will be present at this week's technical run-throughs, according to a spokesman for the Inland Valley Development Agency and San Bernardino International Airport Authority. In the past, Michael Jackson and Pink Floyd held full rehearsals at the facility, formerly Norton Air Force Base. Other acts, including Nine Inch Nails, have used it to rehearse new staging. The Halloween show is scheduled for broadcast on the Fox television network and over the Internet at www.jamtv.com and www.rollingstone.com

He said they'll actually give away millions of tickets, broadcast the show into out space and will christen the KISS constellation. Peter also states that after this tour, that's it for him. Gene mentions that when the reunion idea came up, he asked Peter and Ace for a 5 year commitment, which takes them into 2001.
Report: KISS on MAD TV
From: Shandy & Scarlett
Los Angeles, CA--- We just returned from KISS's guest appearance on FOX 11's "MAD TV" tapings (to be shown October 31st on FOX). We decided to show our deep and abiding adoration for our heroes, by wearing full Gene & Paul make-up. Having attended many other Kiss events in Los Angeles, we were looking forward to the usual legions of fellow KISS fanatics. We were quite perplexed when we found that the audience was virtually devoid of other KISS fans! instead of the comraderie and passion demonstrated by KISS enthusiasts, we faced the condescending apathy of a large group of urban Los Angeles high school students. Clearly, they did not expect or appreciate the show's guests of honor. Despite the nonplussed adolscents, the band recieved much deserved adulation from the handful of devotees present. dressed in full, sparkling regalia, they were featured in several comedy sketches. We feel privledged to have been included in this remarkable event. The magnitude of their mystique
hasn't diminished at all...we are still every bit as awestruck as we were in 1976! Our only regret is that somehow, this appearance was not more widely publicized. Had it been, the KISS ARMY surely would have turned out in full force, as tickets were free and easily obtained. KISS was there in in full splendor, and deserved the boundless devotion only true fans can give. We love you, Gene, Paul, Ace & Peter..! KISS FOREVER...shandy & scarlett

KISS & Professional Wrestling
From: Keith Hayse
As many KISS fans know, the Hottest Band In The World often show up one way or another in the world of professional wrestling. Whether it be the WWF's Hunter Hearst Helmsley poetically quoting Ace Frehley's "Rocket Ride" or "The Human Suplex Machine" Taz of ECW entering the ring to a remake instrumental of "War Machine," KISS and wrestling are a match made in heaven. Recently Stone Cold Steve Austin has included two KISS songs on his compilation record, DX uses a flash of footage of a rather attractive fan requesting that they "Put the DX in sex" for their home video release and WCW wrestler Chris Jericho, a huge KISS fan, recently mentioned the KISS exhibit at Univeral Studios in a message to his fans at his website, http://www.chrisjericho.com . Chris Jericho comments, "I went to the Halloween Horror Nights at Universal studios last night and it was pretty scary. The best part was the concert from the Kiss tribute band, Kiss Army! It was a nice surprise."
[KA Note: KISS ASYLUM was able to catch up with Chris Jericho backstage at a WCW house show here in Savannah to talk about KISS among other things. He is a very cool guy and as the post above states, is a big time KISS fan (Paul is his favorite) in addition to being a UNION fan as well.]!

KISS: They're Baaaack!
From: TV Guide Online
By Mark Nollinger
Riding a wave of renewed popularity, Kiss invades TV on-appropriately-Halloween weekend It's midday on an autumn afternoon, but inside a Hollywood photo studio it looks like 1978 all over again. The four members of Kiss are in vintage form, vamping for the camera in their trademark Kabuki-style makeup, studded black tights and thigh-high boots with those killer 8-inch heels. When bassist Gene Simmons spreads his rubber bat wings and wags that infamous tongue, the time warp is almost complete; all that's missing is a bucket of fake blood and an explosion or two. Those will have to wait until October 31, when Kiss kicks off its 1998 world tour with a Halloween show at L.A.'s Dodger Stadium, the first half hour of which will be broadcast live at midnight ET on Fox. "We're throwing down the gauntlet yet again to show every new band out there how the big boys do it," declares Simmons, 49. "For the first time in history, Kiss in 3-D!" The veteran shock rockers may be pushing 50 and beyond-drummer Peter Criss is 52-but their critics-be-damned bravado clearly remains intact. While the jury's still out on whether watching Kiss through those little cardboard 3-D glasses is really such a hot idea, the fact remains that the band is a huge draw. And Fox is clearly hoping that translates to TV. For openers, Kiss is starring-both as a group and as individual actors-in the October 30 episode of Millennium. And on Halloween, the band is hosting Mad TV before diving into the live concert. "It's basically Kiss Night on Fox," singer-guitarist Paul Stanley, 46, says. "It shows either their tremendous taste-or lack of it. Either way, we support it." Adds Simmons: "We will decimate the competition."

KISS This: The Perennial Glam Rock Outfit Gears Up For New Tour Outlining Their Over Throw Of All Media

The sleeping giant has awaken, the band is going to kick off its tour on Halloween at Dodger stadium, to be shown live on FOX. KOMP Gives In To The Las Vegas KISS Army
From: Warren Ross
Just to let you all know, KOMP (Las Vegas Radio Station) gave in to our request to have a KISS weekend about 4 hours after our attack started. We originaly planned to have a tank from the National Guard, however, after doing a recon mission on the station, the Guard said their tank (45 tons plus) would crush the gas lines than ran under the street. We went to "Plan B" & got one of the Guard's HUM-V's to block KOMP's drive way so that no one could get in or out ofthe station! Needless to say, KOMP was VERY surprized, and VERY upset at us for doing this! We are lucky none of us got arrested! As luck would have it, KISS tribute band "Black Diamond" was playing at a local night club (Pink E's) on Saturday night. This made for the perfect KISS weekend! The Las Vegas KISS Army celebrated thier victory at the "Black Diamond" show, and was complimented by the band for what we pulled-off. KOMP radio agreed to giving away a trip to the Halloween Show at Dodger Stadium, & the Las Vegas KISS Army agreed to unblock KOMP's parking lot & supply KISS prizes for trip qualifiers in exchange for the KISS weekend. It was also agreed that KOMP would play more KISS in their regular broadcast day. I would like to thank all of the KISS Army that showed up for this. Wthout you, we couldn't have done this.
KISS: Death Wouldn't Hurt Record Sales
From: Canoe.com via Steve Araki
Here is an article I saw on the web. It reads as follows:
NEW YORK (AP) -- The members of Kiss might be getting a little long in the tooth for rock 'n roll but that isn't stopping them. Musicians Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley are each pushing 50 -- drummer Peter Criss is 52 -- even as they prepare to kick off their 1998-99 world tour with a Halloween show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. This time, the rockers -- who gave up wearing makeup a few years ago -- have noticed some differences that come with age. "A lot more Ben-Gay," Frehley, 47, told the Oct. 17 issue of TV Guide, adding, "The only thing that will stop us is when one of us drops dead." "And then we'll sell even more records," cracked Simmons, 49. "So we can't lose."

UNION Update From Bruce
From: The UNION Asylum
Well, the guys are back home from the very successful 31 dates they played on the Second Leg of their UNION Tour '98, and the UNION Asylum talked to Bruce to catch up on how things went, get the official word on a few rumors circulating about him and the band, and to see what's in store for UNION next. Bruce began with a personal statement for all the UNION fans:
"First, we made up all the dates we had postponed from the first time we went out and are very proud to be able to point out that we did that for all those fans who wanted to see us in those cities. We then went on to do several dozen more new shows and UNION is very proud of what we accomplished on our Mid-West/East Coast tour. As always, it was really great making new friends and meeting all the fans. It's also making the band more united and allowing UNION to really find itself by getting out there on the road as a band and performing for our fans. It's definitely an experience we've all benefited and grown from as a band. And rest assured, we're going to try and say "yes" to touring and be on the road as much as we can, so be patient if we haven't hit your area yet 'cause we will. There's definitely some exciting things happening for UNION!"

From: Chris Stompanato
PC (the single) is holding at #2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Top 40 for the second week in a row, still with a bullet. The good news is the Creed song that's been #1 for a while is no longer a bullet, so maybe PC can sneak into the #1 slot next week. The closest song with a bullet is the new Lenny Kravitz at #6. I'd love to see KISS hit #1 on
any of the charts. To my knowledge, they've never had a #1 single.

Teenagers looking to get KISS-ed
From: Canoe.com
By JIM SLOTEK Toronto Sun
T.O. GETS KISSED: They may still rock 'n' roll all night and party every day, but the guys from KISS are going to have to fit in some film time when they hit Toronto next week. The band -- which put the makeup back on and hit the road last year for a series of sold-out stadium dates -- was signed by New Line Cinema recently for their big screen movie debut. The film, Detroit Rock City, is skedded to shoot here through the first week of December. KISS originals Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss co-star alongside some kid actors in a "hilarious coming-of-age story about four teenagers who embark on a wild adventure to attend a KISS concert. Driven by their unwavering passion to experience their favourite legendary rock group live, the teens will stop at nothing to scam their way into the sold-out show."
Among the teen schemers: Christine Sixteen, played by Natasha Lyonne (who played the mall-princess with the suddenly-developed breasts in Slums Of Beverly Hills). Adam Rifkin (Small Soldiers) directs.
KISS News From Metal Edge
From: Metal Edge Online via Steve Araki
Hey, saw this post on Metal Edge Online. Here is what it says:
"It turns out the 3-D "Psycho Circus" video KISS premiered at the press conference two weeks ago was a work in progress, which explains why it's not on MTV. It's going to be re-edited to show more of PETER CRISS and include some effects that
were missing. KISS is going back to the Dallas, TX facility where they shot it to get more footage, but it's mainly for backup images in case of any malfunctions in the 3-D system at the concerts. Meanwhile, they're exploring the possibility of cutting together the performance footage they shot for the upcoming episode of Millennium, in which they perform "Psycho Circus," with other scenes from the episode that airs October 30 on Fox. The next day, of course, is the big Dodger Stadium Halloween concert in L.A., and the tour is slated to kick off a few weeks later in the northeast. In between, the concert scene for the Detroit Rock City movie will be shot at L.A.'s Sports Arena (standing in for Detroit's Cobo Hall), and New Line Cinema promises giveaway goodie bags to all audience members and cool raffles of KISS stuff. There are still about 1000 seats left so call (310) 967-6850 to reserve a spot.

Kiss Dates Promise A 'Circus Macabre'
From: Billboard Online Via Steve Araki
Here is an article I found at Billboard Online. It reads as follows:
A "circus macabre" complete with high-wire acts and a Wheel of Terror will be part of Kiss' forthcoming U.S. tour. The performances, in support of the glam rockers' latest album, "Psycho-Circus" (Mercury), will be "a family kind of fun with fire, blood, and explosions," claims Doc McGhee, the group's personal manager. Among the treats planned for the outing -- which will kick off on Halloween at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles -- are a 4-D screen where the images come out over the audience (the audience will be provided with special glasses, of course), as well as the re-enactment of various Kiss comic book story lines by costumed performers. The full range of Kiss merchandise will also be available, so that fans may snatch up the usual T-shirt and poster in addition to signed guitars, leather jackets, and gold records. Fox TV is also getting behind the Psycho-Circus. The night before the tour commences, all four members of Kiss -- Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss -- will be featured on the television show "Millennium." The program will have a Psycho-Circus story line and feature the band performing live and in cameo appearances. Coinciding with the first night of the tour, Kiss will appear on Fox's "Mad Television," followed by the group's own special starting at midnight. -- Athena Schaffer, Amusement Business

KISS Mention In NY Daily News Article
From: Charlie Reussner
Here is an article that was in the 10/2/98 NY Daily News on KISS and the Millennium TV show. It read as follows: " Chris Carter's "Millennium" has never generated the same fan following as his other Fox sci-fi drama "The X-Files." But that certainly doesn't mean he's working any less hard on the show. "You're always trying expand your audiance without it becoming mainstream," Carter told the News. "It's the mark of success in television, the Nielsen game. But I can't just focus on ratings. I know if I make the show good, the audiance will come. But, he conceded, an appearance by the rock group KISS in the upcoming Halloween episode is somthing of a blatant stunt to lure an audience. (The episode ties into a Fox network-wide deal with the band that includes a live concert on Oct. 31 and voice bits in "The Simpsons") "Fox told me they had been doing stuff with KISS," Carter said.
"They asked us to do a Halloween show.... The truth is , I am trying to promote viewership of the show....I wouldn't call it crass; I would call it inventive.

KISS in New Entertainment Weekly
From: KISS Asylum
On page 85 in the "The Charts" section there is a little paragraph on KISS along with a picture of the album cover. Here is what is said: "The 109,000 folks who made KISS', Psycho Circus the week's highest debut have a message for all those purveyors of the rock-is-dead lie: KISS this. On the subject of smooching, the faux-satanic Marilyn Manson kissed the No. 1 spot goodbye after one lonely weekd at the top, dropping to No. 5 -- right behind Christian rockers DC Talk (a placement that's almost enough to make us wax theosophical). Meanwhile Lauryn Hill reclaimed her place at the chart's apex, moving 167,000 copies of her already-platinum solo debut "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And Keith Swat sold 96,000 copies of "Still in the Game" without breaking a...well, you know.
Vinnie Vincent Ex-Wife Disappearance Update
From: Courant.com via Julian Gill
"Police question suspect in Shelton woman's disappearance"
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A Boston rape suspect may hold clues in the 8-month disappearance of a Shelton woman, as authorities prepare to search a Hartford park anew for the missing woman.
Gregory McArthur, 37, is being held in Boston, arrested last month on charges he raped a homeless woman. He has been wanted for questioning since Annmarie Cusano vanished in January, said police. Authorities have talked with McArthur, but would not comment Wednesday on what they learned during that interview. They are planning to search Keney Park today. A search in January of the park turned up few clues.
Cusano was reported missing when she failed to pick up her 15-year-old twin daughters at a relative's house in Waterbury. Police believe Cusano, a secretary for a Milford firm, was last seen with McArthur in the Hartford boarding house where he lived for about three weeks. He left the rooming house about the same time Cusano disappeared. Cusano's red 1991 Mazda was found on a nearby street days after her disappearance. She was married to Vincent Cusano, the lead guitarist for the rock group Kiss, for a short time in the early 1980s. Vincent Cusano, formerly of Bridgeport, changed his name to Vinnie Vincent.
McArthur was released from jail last September after serving more than six years for violating probation on robbery and sexual assault convictions. He is being held in Boston on $100,000 bond.

ESP Rocks!
From: Rocsoldier@aol.com
I just got an advance CD of ESP (I work at the plant here in Nashville that's pressing the CDs) and it rocks! Eric Singer sings 2 songs, John Corabi sings 4, Karl Cochran sings 3 including Goin' Blind and Eric, John & Karl all sing a verse on Humble Pie's 4 Day Creep - that song rocks!!! The cd is all 70's covers though some of them I don't recognize. My favorite is Foxy Lady with ACE FREHLEY on lead guitar!!! He smokes - this is the most classic sounding Ace has been since the 70's!! Free Ride is awesome and much to my surprise - Bruce Kulick is the best he has ever been on lead guitar - I had to keep checking the liners to see who was playing lead, he really rips on Teenage Nervous Breakdown and Changes! Everyone is really great - Eric, John, Bruce and Karl - this is one killer band!!!! I don't know when it will be out but definetly check it out!

KISS Makes Surprise Debut on Canadian Charts
From: Jam! Showbiz via star
Article By: John Sakamoto Executive Producer, Jam! Showbiz
Proving that no one should underestimate the power of the KISS Army, the first new studio album by the original lineup of KISS in 18 years blasted onto the Canadian charts at No. 2, ahead of such high-powered '90s acts Marilyn Manson, the Goo Goo Dolls, and rap supergroup the Flipmode Squad. "Psycho-Circus" sold a remarkable 13,096 copies across Canada last week, SoundScan Canada reports.
That's fewer than 1500 copies behind the "Armageddon" soundtrack, which squeaked back up to No. 1 on sales of 14,562 CDs and cassettes. "We were surprised that radio jumped on the single right off the top," says Ivar Hamilton, marketing manager of Mercury Records Canada. "Because generally radio over the years in most places across Canada has not been that friendly to KISS." That was definitely not the case with the "Psycho-Circus" single, which was No. 5 at rock radio in Canada last week. "The band also did a Canadian-only special for the Rock Radio Network that was picked up by 14 stations across the country," Hamilton adds.
KISS's Canadian presence should only increase in the coming months. The
band spent Monday and Tuesday in Vancouver filming the Halloween episode of
the spooky FOX-TV series "Millennium". And a full-length feature film named
after the band's unofficial theme song, "Detroit Rock City", is currently being shot in Toronto, though none of those scenes involve the band itself. They'll also be touring next year, with Canadian dates pencilled in for early 1999, says Hamilton.
