KISS '98 Studio Album Producer: Bruce Fairbairn
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
As we reported a while back via MTV Online on October 8th, Gerri Miller confirmed today from Gene that Bruce Fairbairn is indeed the producer for the new studio album. She also said that Bob Ezrin will be involved as a co-writer and arranger. She mentioned that there is a long-form video in the works but that there is no release date for that video at this time.

KISS Newsbit
From: Jeff Harshman
Here is some info on Ace's "Eruption" that was reported recently. I asked Gerri Miller about it, and she said that when she asked Gene, he had no idea. So, maybe it's just a rumor or maybe it's something that Ace has worked on independently, and Gene just hadn't heard about it yet.

Philly KISS Convention Report
From: Michelle
First, I will say a few words about the radio show on WYSP. Bruce and John kinda "co-hosted" the midnight show-(I taped it all and will send it to Otaku Mike in the next few days). They answered questions--all the usual ones--and got to play some of their fav tunes, 2 UNION songs--"Old Man Wise" and "Let it Flow"(they are gonna stick to these 2 from now on for promos)--a John era Crue song ("Til Death.."), and 3 songs from COS, including "I Walk Alone." It was SO KOOL to hear that coming from the radio speakers!! They seemed to have a great time and were very funny and sweet and I'm sure they gained many, many new fans!
As for the Expo, BRUCE ROCKED!!!! He played a somewhat shorter clinic than usual--mostly the same songs, but without "Rain" or "I Walk Alone". He took solo requests and WAILED!!!! Then, after a short break, he answered questions alone for a while and then brought John up for more. Next they treated the audience to the same 2 songs from the radio show and everybody LOVED them! Great response! They had some UNION flyers, and the b&w glossy promo shot to have autographed. They posed together for poloroid pix which they both signed. As usual, Bruce signed any and everything and was totally kool about pleasing his fans. THATS WHY WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! And all the "Bruce fans" were thrilled to meet John and he was very very kool also. Check out my site for some awesome pix-- UNION!!-- and more on KISS Asylum: The UNION Asylum

Ace Frehley Sighting
From: hairboy@cloud9.net
Ace was at Sam Ash Music in White Plains, NY last Friday. He stops by from time to time. He was buying some recording gear for his house. He had old buddy Anton Fig with him. I asked him about the free 4th of July show! His answer was, "We (KISS) have tossed the idea around but thats as far as it got, and as of right now there is nothing booked and it definitly won't (if it happens) be in Roswell." He also said, "The internet sites very rarely get things correct!" One more thing, Ace told me that they won't start recording until after the holidays, probably 1st week in January, and he said he doesn't know who is producing the record. One side note, he locked his keys in the car with it running while he was there.

Eric Carr Tribute Article
From: Julian Gill / KISS FAQ II / KISS Audio Trading UK
A Tribute to KISS' Longest Serving Drummer
The purpose of this multimedia tribute to Eric Carr is not to debate whether or not he was the "best" drummer KISS had, because everyone will have their own opinion about that, but it is to remember a genuinely nice man who came from "nowhere" and gave his all for the band we all love. On November 24, 1991, Paul Caravello, aged just 41, sadly passed away leaving many fans shocked and appalled at the tragedy of life. Gone, though he may be, Eric lives on forever in the hearts of all his fans and is remembered every time one of his albums is played.

Vote KISS!
From: Sh0cKMe@aol.com
I came across this survey about a month ago. When I first saw it KISS was ahead in almost every category, but now Van Halen has taken over. I think the KISS Army needs to go on attack and put KISS back in front.

Bruce Kulick & John Corabi on WYSP in Philly
From: Keith Paynkewicz
Bruce and John are on Rockers on WYSP in Philadelphia and I just got through and was able to ask a question for Bruce that I haven't seen printed anywhere before. I asked him if Eric Singer was considered to be the drummer in Union. He said that Eric wanted to do his own thing, playing with Gilby Clarke and be free to do other things like that. Bruce said that right from the start (or right from the end of his days in KISS) he knew he wanted to have his own band. I then asked him how it felt for him and John to be the "Gene and Paul" of his own band. Bruce laughed and said he and John are a "Kinder Gentler" Gene and Paul.

Ace Frehley to "Erupt?"
From: Derek Fuller
Excerpt from Circus Magazine, December 1997:
"Tired of being thought of as a substandard guitar player, Space Ace Frehely of KISS intends to "shock" the world with his own rendition of Eruption on the forth coming KISS album titled, KISS ARMY Unites (Eruption is the amazing guitar piece that changed heavy metal guitar forever performed by Eddie Van Halen on the self-titled album, Van Halen ((WB 84667b 1977))."
"Ace needed the aid of the virtuoso himself to work out all the parts. 'I called Ed on the phone and told him that I was planning on performing Eruption on the new KISS album as a kind of vindication. Ed thought it was a hoax at first and then he was a big help. I might play it backwards just to mix it up a bit.'"

"Oh Yeah! Online" Folds
From: Frank / Steve of Oh Yeah Magazine
As of late last week, OhYeah Online has withdrawn from the internet. We're focusing our energy and resources on the magazine and other sideline projects we've got in mind for 1998. Due to increasing costs with maintaining our domain name, we can't justify its operation.
OhYeah Online was an experiment that proved successful in many ways. From its inception in oct 1996, we've learned the perils of the internet and enjoyed its offerings. Being in instant touch with fans across the globe has been amazing! But, lately the site has been more trouble than it's worth. Updating is not all it's cracked up to be. Asylum and Otaku both update often - sometimes twice daily! - and are we to offer anything beyond this! HELL NO! These guys do an awesome job. In comparison, nothing happens in Australia when compared to the US - so we feel there's no point in emulating every piece of info that is reported elsewhere. Our official merchandise can be found in the mag. The rest is pointless...
We have some cool ideas lined up for the mag and are glad that Asylum/Otaku will be supporting us in the future.
Also, the OhYeah 'apprenticeship' has given me the skills to produce a full fledged color publication that has nothing to do with KISS in the new year. Running OhYeah has had its extreme advantages!
OhYeah Online has been an honor to build and maintain these last 13 months. I thank-you for all your support and hope you all support us in the forthcoming years with the on-going fresh improvements we're bringing to the magazine.

KISS Wine Info
From: Jerry Cornish
I have been having a terribly hard time trying to find the 3 different KISS Wine bottles. I finally tracked down the following information:
The wine is made by Celebrity Cellars in San Francisco. Their phone number is (415) 431-7566. I phoned them yesterday and spoke to the Sales & Marketing office. They were very nice and helpful. They tried to find a local merchant that carries their line in my local, So. California area with no luck. The gentleman then gave me their toll-free number (800) 935-5351 and told me to call between 9 and 5 pm Pacific.
I just got off of the line with them and they are sending me 3 bottles! BUT... here's the deal: You must be of legal age (duh!) and you must have a California mailing address (the Sales guy told me something about how some states forbid alcohol being shipped). They will take orders over the phone and you can pay via Major Credit Card. They will ship the order via UPS. I ordered the de-alcoholized wine ( solo faces, "KISS THIS" as seen at Spencer's), the actual wine (destroyer cover, "KISS THIS") and the hand-etched logo/faces wine. The prices are not bad - SOLO FACES $9.99, DESTROYER $9.99, ETCHED $49.99.
Just call the "800" number during their hours and if they can't ship to you, at least they will do their best to find a local merchant that CAN get it for you. Good luck!

UNION News
From: Paula Hogan of Mayhem Records
Just back from Toronto. Bruce and John did an interview with 97.7FM. Went very well. Talked about Kiss/Motley and introduced UNION! The show was heard by many as a lot of attendees to Steve Campbell's KISS EXPO came with material for both the guys to sign.
On Saturday, the guys conducted a few interviews with magazines located in the Toronto area. Everyone is really excited to hear the material. Speaking of which, attendees to Sunday's convention were treated to two songs -- OLD MAN WISE and LET IT FLOW. The response was great!
Tomorrow the band will return to the studio to mix the final track, ROBIN'S SONG. Bruce and John will be back on a plane late Thursday, heading for Philly for this weekend's big Expo.
If you are in the Phillie area, tune into WYSP on Friday at 12am. The band will take over the airwaves and possibly spin a few UNION tracks.
The next chat is scheduled for December 1. I will post info on this tomorrow evening.
[KA Note: Make sure to check The UNION Asylum for the best in UNION coverage]

Bruce on Q107 in Toronto
From: CBShepeard
Thanks to the advent of the Internet, I heard an interview with Bruce on Q107 in Toronto. No new news, just that the album will be out in February, and there are no hard feelings between him and Gene & Paul and that the two of them have wished him success with the new band. Then they played Jungle. Should you want to listen to Q107, you need a real audio player and go to www.q107.com

"Operation Radiosturm" - German KISS fans
From: Juern / KISS Kollector Online
After starting to climb the Top 100 album charts with #36 last week, Mercury/PolyGram Germany still does not want to promote either the album or a (by now unreleased) single. According to people at Mercury Germany, the record is "too hard" for a single release (this must be the reason for it climbing #8 in the U.S. Billboard Mainstream charts.-Juern). The same company does promotion for the new Metallica album "Reload" (due Nov. 17th), including releasing a single and sending letters to the fans! I received a letter from Mercury Germany last Saturday which contained a short description of how the album will sound and the release-date.
Florian Hedwig (KISS Deutschalnd / KISS Asylum News Germany) and myself have started the "Operation Radiosturm" to let radio stations all over Europe know we want them to play and support "Jungle".
Every fan who wishes to support this idea can contribute by sending the email address of his preferred radio station(s). Email me at KISS Kollector Online or Florian at KISS Deutschland. European fans should also contact their national Mercury/PolyGram office and ask for a single release of "Jungle". Thank you all for your support!

KISS Asylum Reviews UNION Demos
From: Elizabeth Sneed (The KISS Asylum / The UNION Asylum)
A MOST Perfect UNION!
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union..... do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." Well ladies and gentlemen, it took 210 years from the time our forefathers wrote those words for it to happen, but a MOST perfect UNION has finally emerged in our great nation!!!

We at The KISS Asylum / UNION Asylum have been fortunate enough to hear four of the tracks scheduled to be on UNION's upcoming February 24, 1998 debut release on Mayhem/Fierce Records, and let me tell you, THEY ROCK!! We are not at liberty to share this tape with anyone (so please don't E-Mail asking for a copy), but we can and do want to share our initial impressions with everyone to whet your appetite! Here goes:

Toronto KISS Collectors' Expo Report
From: John Derrick
Sunday, November 16, 1997
Bruce Kulick and John Corabi were the special guests. Bruce began with a guitar clinic. He played an ESP Strat thru Marshall Amps, while jamming along with a DAT tape. Bruce played Unholy, Heart of Chrome, Tough Love, Liar (from the Ace Tribute Record), 495, No No No Intro, Tears are Falling solo, and Star Spangled Banner.

After a short break, Bruce came back to do a Q and A. He talked about the MTV Unplugged session with Ace and Peter, the recording of Carnival of Souls, the day in January 96 when Gene and Paul explained to him and Eric that they planned to do a reunion tour, his reasons for leaving KISS, and his new project with Union. After a half hour of this, he invited John on stage to answer questions about his situation with Motley Crue, and talk about their new project, Union. They then played a couple of rough mixes from the new album which they hope will be out in February on Mayhem Records. Bruce and John then signed autographs and took pictures with fans.

UNION On Much Music News
From: NCMC Raven
I just caught a newsclip on Much Music from the KISS Convention in Toronto. They briefly interviewed Bruce and John. Both men were very articulate and both spoke about being in their previous bands, John to the reunion with Vince and Bruce to the release of "COS." John said, "Contrary to public belief, I love those guys." Bruce seems genuinely psyched about UNION and stated, "It's a band...not a project."

"Jungle" Cracks Billboard Top 10
From: Bob Rodrick / KISS Fact of the Week
I don't know if this was reported or not, but last week, "Jungle" became Kiss's biggest rock radio track since the 70's, cracking the top ten of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Top 40 radio chart at #8. Congrats to Kiss!
By the way, half of the top ten was classic hard rock with AC/DC at #5, Ozzy Osbourne at #6, Aerosmith at #7, Kiss at #8 and the Rolling Stones at #9.

Bob Rodrick's Look At The KISS Box Set
From: Bob Rodrick / KISS Fact of the Week
God, do I love box sets! I love to spend an occasional Sunday afternoon with a cold drink (iced tea is my preference!) and just cruise through a three or four CD box set. Every now and then when I do this a frequent thought that comes to my head is, "gee, I wish I was listening to a Kiss box set right now!"

The idea for a Kiss box set has seen the light of day for nearly ten years now. Polygram Records wanted Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley to put one together during the late 1980's, but the two pushed the idea back, most likely thinking it would be in the way of other projects they were more concerned about at the time. Only in the past three or four years have Gene and Paul seriously started thinking more about it, and have been teasing the ever so die-hard Kiss fans about what they call "The Monster of All Box Sets." Paul has even stated that the proposed Kiss box set would be the size of a piece of luggage.

For those of you who have been following the progress of the latest Internet CD, "KAOL 2 Creatures Of The Net", you'll know that we have a Partridge Family Tribute band doing a version of Shout It Out Loud. They gave a copy of it to Bob Ezrin who played it for Gene and Paul. They loved it. Bob said he would like to personally remix it himself. So last night, that is exactly what happened. KISS Wine
From: James E. Soucie
I saw on your website an article about KISS wine. Upon researching it, I found out that the closest store to me that had it was three hours away. When I called to see if they had it I was told that the $19.99 bottle with the regular Destroyer label had all sold out, but they did have 2 bottles left of the $49 etched and hand painted version. I didn't even know it existed. I just got back from getting those two bottles and they are awesome. They only made 1000 cases of the etched as compared to 5000 of the regular and non-alcoholic kind. They (Beverages and More) also told me that they could not get any more product because it was sold out at the factory (Celebrity Cellars). They also told me that the company will be making more KISS wine but that the Destroyer version was a 1st Edition and would not be produced again, they would use other album covers.

"Canrival of Souls" News from Australia
From: Matthew
Today, Friday November 14th at around 5:15pm, the single "JUNGLE" was played for the first time on Australian radio by station 3MMM. They plugged it for two days, giving you a little bit of the song and then saying tune in to hear the new KISS song "JUNGLE." I think someone should have told them it went on sale here last week, but it was exciting to hear it on the radio for the first time. A little bit of sales news: although I haven't got exact figures, most stores have stocked the album, with a lot selling out their first order runs (which were not that big) so they've re-ordered them. The cd's are locally made here in Australia, which would have brought the cost down quite a bit. Also, next week here in Melbourne, Saturday November 22nd, there is a HUGE album launch party at a place called the CATHOUSE. There will be 3 bands and hopefully giveaways. Interesting note, two weeks ago they played "JUNGLE" probably for the first time in Australia anywhere, offically that is. The actual single hasn't hit the stores here. I've asked quite a few and they haven't got any cd single info for "JUNGLE" but expect it to be coming (YEAH RIGHT!).

KISS "Today's Rock Fax"
From: LeRoy Spieker
I obtained the "Today's Rock Fax" from a local radio station for the date of November 11, 1997. The nighttime DJ had played an audio of Gene Simmons, so I called in, and got a copy that had the below news brief on KISS. "Today's Rock Fax" is a copyrighted 'Instant Rock News For Rock Radio' source, and is copyrighted by MLI Broadcasting, Inc. It is written by Steve Reynolds in New York with Dave Schulps in Los Angeles

KISS ALIVE AGAIN
The original KISS lineup will enter the studio next month to begin recording their first album since 1980's Unmasked. They hope to release the new album next May. "It's not gonna take six months, but it's not gonna take six weeks." says bassist Gene Simmons. "We'll give it time because this new record doesn't have just the strains of being a good KISS record, it has to be a new KISS album that has songs that still sound like KISS, but don't sound like son of 'Rock and Roll All Nite' or son of 'Deuce'. " They plan to follow up the album's release with a free show in Roswell, New Mexico - site of a supposed U.F.O. crash in 1947 - on July 4th. After that, they'll do a summer U.S. stadium tour.
[KA Note: The July 4th show being held at Roswell, New Mexico is still unconfirmed!]
Eric Singer News
From: Chris Cook
I live in Providence, R.I. and Gilby Clark and Eric Singer were in town tonight playing at the Strand. At the end of his show he came out to the tour bus, so my friend and I went over to see if we could get autographs. Eric came out and chatted with us for about 5 to 10 mins. I asked why he wasnt to enthused about "C.O.S" and he said cause it kinda bums him out that the fans really like the cd, but that it will never go further than just a cd, no cool tour to go along with it. I asked about his solo thing (the rumor that has just surfaced about Eric putting together a band of his own) and he said that is being thought about right now, but nothing is definite at this time. He talked with us and gave us autographs while sitting on the steps of his tour bus. He was very nice to us, as usual.

Resuscitated KISS Invents Marketer-Friendly Persona
"Psycho Circus" Recasts 1970's Band As Modern Superheroes
by Jeff Jensen [Advertising Age Magazine, November 10, 1997]
On the (platform) heels of a successful reunion tour, the shock rock group KISS is now aiming to establish an entertainment brand that will endure into the next century.
The band next year kicks off the "KISS Psycho Circus" marketing concept, centered on the first new album from its original members in 12 years and a two-year world tour.
Conceived by KISS and executed by Mercury Recrods and Sony Signatures, "Psycho Circus" is an attempt to create a pop mythology that can change with the times but remain rooted in a core image that's two decades old. In some ways, the effort resembles the strategy Saban Entertainment has employed to sustain its Mighty Morphin Power Rangers property, using a new theme for the franchises to leverage.
In fact, a recently launched "KISS Psycho Circus" comic book series from Image Comics is serving as a laboratory for next year's album of the same name, as well as licensed products, concerts and a pre-show carnival."

"Psycho Circus" New Album Title!?!
It was reported the other day in Advertising Age Magazine that the new album title for the KISS '98 album will be "Psycho Circus." Advertising Age reports, "In fact, a recently launched 'KISS Psycho Circus' comic book series from Image Comics is serving as a laboratory for next year's album of the same name, as well as licensed products, concerts and a pre-show carnival."

Here are some interesting news bits regarding the Psycho Circus. It is currently ranked around 25 on the top selling comic book charts. A commitment has been made for at least 15 issues. KISS In New Metal Edge Magazine
From: The KISS Asylum
KISS is in the new Metal Edge Magazine (Feb '98 issue). In the Metal Wire section Gerri Miller asks Gene about Bruce Fairbairn being the new KISS album producer. Gene tells her that they have talked to him but they are also keeping their options open. Gene said that the writing is going well and that they are taking their time so things will be good. It mentions that Gene has demoed some songs he is really excited about, Paul has at least two and Peter Criss and Tommy Thayer have collaborated on another. Gene notes that he has not heard anything from Ace yet.
Also on on page 17, there is a full page advertisement for the "Carnival of Souls" album. It shows the full cover 3/4 of the page and then on the bottom 1/4 it mentions that it is "The Last Chapter Of The KISS 1992-1996 Line-Up." It then lists the band members' names and below that it says "Includes 'Jungle' and 'Hate.'"
Those that are interested in the KAOL II Creaturs of the Net KISS Tribute CD project will be happy to know that once again it is mentioned in the Metal Wire. They talk about the CD, listing some of the songs to be covered, about the fact that Dave Magee is doing the cover art, and also mention the possibility of a 3rd tribute CD from the KAOL people - one that would cover the solo albums. Finally, it also mentions the KAOL II website. Glad to see this project get publicity! For full news on this project, make sure to check the KAOL II Tribute CD News page!
On page 29 there is a half page spread of color picts of Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer. The picture footer mentions the "Return of the Comet" Ace Frehley Tribute CD.

Outromental Probably "Overlooked"
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge Magazine
Bruce Kulick says that there was probably a screwup in the transfer from the original to the CD. Since the "Outromental" was unlisted and doesn't start until 25 or so seconds after the final track, it was easy to miss.

Chicago KISS Convention Review
From: Chris Stompanato [From The KISS Army Mailing List]
I'm back home following the Chicago Convention. Both the convention and the night before were very enjoyable. Meeting "Psycho Circus" artist Angel Medina was a treat. He is one genuinely nice guy, not to mention talented.

Eric Singer was also great. He answered all questions and was in good humor.
A few interesting tidbits from his Q&A:

  • The reason Eric isn't actively promoting COS is simple. He was asked to but wouldn't do it for free. Considering he's no longer in KISS, you really can't blame him. He's proud of the album and mentions it whenever asked about it. It's just that he wouldn't formally promote it with Gene and Paul if he wasn't going to be paid. He mocked the packaging (or lack thereof) as well.
  • When talking about the Reunion Tour and its success, he mentioned how timing was important with this. He said that the Reunion Tour last summer had no competition to go up against. Eric stated that had Van Halen done a reunion tour with David Lee Roth it would have been more successful than KISS' tour. He didn't mean this as a negative towards KISS. He said Van Halen is more of America's band.
  • Eric stated that he will make no money from the release of COS. I think a lot of fans seemed floored by this statement, but Eric neglected to mention that since he didn't help write any of the songs, that is probably the main reason he won't make anything from COS. I would think he was paid at the point it was being recorded.

I saw a bit of the tribute band Destroyer. They sounded good. As expected, merchandise (especially vintage KISS stuff) was highly priced. I remember the KISS garbage can going for no more than about $150 three years ago. Today, the going rate was around $350! That's about it. Let's do it again next year!

    Eric Singer's Thoughts on COS
    From: Zoid2323@aol.com
Eric Singer said he was very surprised at how cheaply "COS" was put together. He said he liked the flaming head logo, but the record company didn't want the fans to think that "COS" was the new album from the band in makeup, so they used a picture of the band from a photo shoot during production of the album. He says he hopes the album does well, but since he doesn't get any money from sales of the album he can't promote it. He has to work because he has bills like the rest of us.

    Message from Gene
From: Joop / KISS Kollector Online
Received a letter from Gene last Saturday in which he informed me that the band will hit the studio in December.

And, last week in Holland about 200 extra copies of Carnival Of Souls were sent to recordstores.
Last week about 700 more copies of Carnival Of Souls were shipped to the stores in Holland.

    KISS Merchandise Update
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
Merchandise Update (some of the latest merchandise I've seen in stores includes the following things. I am not selling any of these & don't really know where to definitely get these things unless it's listed next to the items.)
    * KISS WATERBALL - Awesome Large Sized Glass Snow Globe. The globe (filled with water) rains glitter on a KISS logo on the inside. The 3 inch base has perfectly sculpted images off all 4 members makeup faces circling the globe. Next to each face is a small replica of each members '76 boots. $24.95 (seen at Spencers).
    * KISS 1ST ALBUM GUITAR BOOK - The 1st KISS album has been made into a tablature book with some 1974 B&W photos. Out now at Music Stores. $19.95.
    * KISS COINS - Out for a while, but now in stores (Spencers) $40
    * KISS THROW RUG-KISS ARMY Design on red with KISS logos all over the rug. The new circular makeup designs (as seen on some 96 tour merchandise.) decorate each corner of the rug. $69.99 (Spencers) Made by "The Rug Barn."
    * KISS THIS-RED TABLE WINE (with alcohol) LTD to 5,000 cases. This bottle has the DESTROYER cover on the front & the back talks about this special limited edition. Made by "Celebrity Cellars." * KISS THIS-RED TABLE UNWINE-Non alcoholic & more widely available. (Seen at Spencers, direct KISS merchandise lists, novelty shops, record stores). also made by "Celebrity Cellars."
    * KISS CORNERSTONE CARDS-SET 1 - The first 90 card set of new KISS cards was finally released in early November. The cards have a chronological KISSTORY from '72-'83, cards on LP covers up to Creatures, etc.. Available in retail boxes-$40-$55(comic stores), Sets of 90, uncut display sheets, etc...
*KISS POOL QUES-Pool Sticks which come in packaging with a KISS logo label, much like the colored one on the bottom of the stick, above that are replicas of the KISS autographs making this a very cool yet simplistic design & a very original new KISS item. $20 (seen at Spencers).
*KISS CD GIFT PACK - KISS CD Holder with Random KISS CD-$30 (Spencers)
Again, I'd like the stress that I'm not promoting any of the stores where this stuff is sold, just reporting on cool new KISS stuff & giving you an idea of where you MIGHT find some of these things if you are interested. Also, prices are not guaranteed to be perfectly right but very close.

    "Canrival of Souls" rocks Norway
    From: Tore Raaen
I just wanted to tell you that COS is #23 at the Norwegian VG top 40 list. Not bad knowing it's only been a week or so since it's release. I've heard "Master and Slave", "It Never Goes Away" and "I Will Be There", on the radio here in Norway.

    "Jungle" rocks Philly!
    From: Steve Campagna
Don't know about anywhere else, but Jungle is all over here. 94 WYSP (sister station to KROCK) plays it all day and all night. They even have this really cool thing they do everytime it comes on. This collage of Kiss songs plays for about 10 seconds. It includes parts of RARAN, Dr.Love, I Just Wanna, Domino, and Unholy. Some guy then yells out "JUNGLE"and it dives into the song. I get a chill everytime I hear it. VERY KOOL STUFF!!!! For the first time in years all of my friends have told me they heard a Kiss song on the radio. I call all the time and they all tell me sure, we love that song.

First Kiss: Original Members to Cut New Album
    From: Sean Cowie
    Story by Joal Ryan November 7, 1997, 3:15 p.m. PT / E Online
    Pucker up. Kiss is back.
And, this time, we mean all the way back. As in, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, in a recording studio making new sow-your-oats rock music for the first time since 1980. Or roughly three presidential administrations, countless groupies and 17 years ago.
That word Friday from a music industry trade publication report that says the original Kiss lineup will head for the great indoors of the studio in early 1998. (Kiss' record label, Mercury Records, could not be reached for comment.)
The report, citing sources from the band's management company, essentially says that if the four dudes can lay down tracks and generally peacefully co-exist while doing it, they'll head back out on a new tour later that year--possibly, in late June or early July.
This must be encouraging word to the nation's arena and stadium owners. When Stanley, Simmons, Frehley and Criss reunited for a world tour in 1996 (and--no insignificant fact--returned to their monster-makeup and platform-shoes ways), the gleefully shameless glam rockers of the 1970s left all the other old-fogey performers (Styx and Steely Dan, included) in the dust, grossing more than $43 million on their way to becoming the year's top live act.
The concerts, drawing a broad cross section of baby boomers, twentysomethings and teenagers, proved not only the enduring appeal of showmanship ("Lookie, that demon guy flies!"), but of the band itself.
The group, from New York City, emerged on the rock scene in 1974 with its self-titled debut album. The last complete studio work by the original members was featured on 1979's Dynasty.
Drummer Peter Criss was the first to defect--starting to break away from the band during the recording of 1980's Unmasked. Lead guitarist Ace Frehley left a couple years, and albums, later.
Kiss, led by the savvy Simmons-and-Stanley contingent, continued to record in the 1980s--restyling themselves (sans makeup) as a hair band.
The duo extended the olive branch to their ex-comrades for a 1995 Unplugged performance on MTV. Frehley, who filed for bankruptcy that year, and Criss played a brief set with their old bandmates. The reunion was forged complete the next year with the world tour.

    KISS Movie Mentioned In "EW"
    From: Elizabeth Sneed
The November 14, 1997 issue of "Entertainment Weekly" magazine has a BRIEF mention on page 12 about the possible KISS movie. They, too, are reporting that the band has teamed up with producer Gene Kirkwood ("Rocky"), and also mention that both Cameron Crowe and David Fincher have "reportedly expressed interest in directing" and that the film is conceived as giving a "revealing look at the musicians behind the make-up."
In it, they jokingly make suggestions as to who should play each band member in the film. Here are their suggestions: Chazz Palminteri as Gene, Eddie Van Halen as Ace, Howard Stern as Paul, and Paul Shaffer as Peter. The suggestions come complete with "comparison" photos of each band member next to the suggested player, and the resemblance is pretty funny in the pictures they've chosen!

Original KISS Lineup Back With Album, Tour
By Julie Taraska / November 7, 1997 / Billboard Online
"KISS will embark on a world tour next summer in support of the first album by the band's original members in more than a decade, due in early 1998 on Mercury. KISS' management company says that if everything goes well in the studio, KISS will begin touring in late June/early July of next year, playing mostly indoor dates with scattered stadiums in key markets. The last tour by KISS grossed more than $50 million and was the top-grossing North American tour in 1996, according to Amusement Business."

    KISS Muzak sighting
    From: millerlite2fan@webtv.net
I was at the bank today, waiting to get my check cashed. All of a sudden, I started digging this song. After about 15 seconds, I realized it was "Everytime I Look At You". Even though they were slow as Hell, I was a happy camper!

    FMQB Reviews "KISS & Tell"
    From: KISSBook@aol.com
    Rock Report - October 31, 1997
As KISS' latest CD "Carnival Of Souls" hits streets, a provocative new book, "KISS & Tell," has been published (Pitbull Publishing). Written by Gordon G.G. Gebert and Bob McAdams, a former KISS roadie, the project is not a KISS book per se, but rather an entertaining and often hilarious account of misspent days accompanying Ace Frehley. McAdams befriended Frehley back in the early '60s and served as best man at his wedding. His stories about life with the Space Ace are outrageous and sometimes shocking. Gebert's association with Frehley is of a more recent nature, but his reminiscences border on an almost Spinal Tap insanity and hilarity. While the book does occasionally falter on the edge of bitterness and regret (both Gebert and McAdams are no longer friends with Frehley), it's a must read for any KISS afficionado.

KISS Action Figures news from Sweden
From: David Mirlas David Mirlas' KISS World
Hello all Swedish KISS fans! Just thought you should know that the Action Figures have finally been released here in Sweden. Stor & Liten has them all, and they cost 169.50 Sek each. With each figure one letter of the KISS logo is included, so if you collect them you will also have the entire logo wich you can use as a stand for the dolls. Of course you already knew that, but I just wanted to point out that it is the K-I-S-S dolls wich are being released and NOT the solo-stand dolls. I recommend you to check these dolls ASAP, they are really cool.

    "Jungle" On The Charts
    From: Chris
Here's the latest from the R&R Charts for the week of October 27nd-November 2nd:
"Jungle" now stands at #10 on the Active Rock Top 50 and #12 on the Rock Top 50 charts. This is compared to #8 and #12 the prior week (slight downward turn on Active Rock). Both charts still list it as a bullet, though, meaning actual airplay still increased from the prior week. I will hopefully have some airplay stats shortly.
"Jungle" really hasn't been on the charts very long (4 or 5 weeks), so there is still room for it to grow. The key will be having a handful of key stations add it to their playlist and for those already playing it to put it into heavier rotation.
[Make sure to check the "Carnival of Souls" news page for all your "COS" information].

    KISS Trivia Chat
The KISS Trivia chat Bob Rodrick hosted last nite was a huge success once again. A ton of people showed up and everyone had a lot of fun and learned a lot of cool interesting info about KISS. I want to thank Bob Rodrick (KISS Fact of the Week) for hosting the chat and thank all the KISS fans for attending. If you did not show up, you missed a great time. Right now we hope to have the next Trivia chat on December 11th. Make sure to check the Chat Schedule on the live chat page for chat times and dates.

I also want to mention that on Tuesday, November 11th, "Black Diamond 2" author Dale Sherman will be attending the KISS Asylum chat to talk about his book and take questions from fans. If you have some time that nite come to Chris Desing's (from FriedAlive.com) "Bootleg and traders" chat at 9pm EST and then stay for the "Black Diamond 2" chat following at 10pm. It should be a very informative and fun nite!

    KISS Sighting
    From: Charlie
Tonite on the Late Show with David Letterman, they were discussing the PBS documentary about Lewis and Clark that is airing right now. At one point David told Paul to look at how PBS was promoting the show to get people to watch it. They first showed a picture of Lewis and Clark and then the announcer said something to the effect of "enjoy the life and times of two explorers as they traveled the western United States and how they later influenced the success of the seventies rock group KISS. They showed a picture of Gene and Paul in makeup while playing RARAN in the background. The audience cheered loudly and it was very cool.

    Info for Tommy Thayer fans
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge magazine
Talked to Tommy Thayer about the Black 'N Blue reunion show in Portland for a feature to go with the photos I got. The gig was recorded and he says it came out great--it's due out late spring. No more shows planned anytime soon, but he's working on rereleasing the back catalog. He also is producing a Portland band called 28 IF, and is forming an indie record label with his brother.

Gerri Miller talks to Gene Simmons
From: Gerri Miller of Metal Edge magazine
Talked to Gene Simmons this morning. KISS should be in the studio before Christmas and the album may be out by June. Big free 4th of July show somewhere; tour will top the last one, he says. Official website is still in the works. KISS action figures are selling well--his are moving four times as fast as the others' (Paul, Ace, and Peter in that order).

    KISS Trivia Chat tonite
Bob Rodrick (KISS Fact of the Week) will have a special KISS Trivia chat here at the Asylum this Thursday November 6th, at 9pm est. It will be in a live chat room. The last time we had the Triva Chat is was a HUGE success! There was a great crowd and everyone had a great time and learned a lot of cool interesting facts about KISS. Do you have what it takes?

KISS Cards From Cornerstone: A Review!
    From: Chris Cook
I picked up a box of KISS Series One collector cards last night. They are awesome. These are their best cards yet. Cornerstone has done an excelent job and Robert Conte has done an incredible job with the text.

I was surprised to see a lot of never before released photos or rare photos. Card 6 is of Gene & Paul, black and white, pre KISS era. This photo was in KISStory, but this is still a rare photo and it looks much clearer here. Card 7 is a Wicked Lester group shot, black and white. We have seen this before, but rare and cool. Card 8 is another rare photo: Paul, Peter and Gene (in his salior get up) jammin in their loft. Yes we have seen it before, but not this clear (it finally looks like one photo not two put together). When you see it you will know what I am talking about. Card 18 is a never seen before photo - cool, cool, cool. Card 25, again never seen before. Like I said, they have many rare and never seen before photos..... too many to list. I love the text. It is very informative and well phrased.
I bought an unopened box. Within the box there are 36 packs: 2 complete sets and almost a third complete set (the third is only missing 3 cards), then a fourth set missing 40 cards, with 10 duplicate cards left over. In my box, I got 3 of the 6 chase cards. That made me very happy because I didn't expect any at all. On the bottom of the box it states odds in finding the radomly inserted chase cards are 1 in every 8 packs. Of course there is no guarantee for chase cards per unit.
The box also comes with the same merchandise catalogue that was in "Carnival of Souls." Also, each pack contains a paper card ad for the "KISS Years" book. All in all, cool cards and well worth the money for a box.

    "Carnival of Souls" ranks #27
    From: Duffadler@aol.com via Yahoo News
The Billboard top 200 contained 23 debuts, ranging from Mase at No. 1 to David Lee Roth's solo hits compilation at No. 199. In between were such new entries as Phish's second live album "Slip, Stitch and Pass" at No. 17, Kiss' "Carnival of Souls" at 27 (39,000 units sold), Deftones' "Around the Fur" at 29, a Cure compilation "Galore" at 32, and the Doors' "Box Set" at a credible 65.

    "Jungle" On The Charts
    From: Chris
In the latest issue of Billboard Magazine (Nov 8), "Jungle" is at #12 for the second straight week, still with a bullet, on the Mainstream Rock Top 40 Chart. The very strong showing of Ozzy and AC/DC's new songs probably prevented additional chart movement upward. The fact it is still a bullet, though, indicates a continuing increase in airplay from the prior week.

    Vinnie Vincent Box Set news
    From: Joe
I called Metaluna yesterday and got an update on the set. I was told that it was delayed because Vinnie booked extra studio time to put some more tracks on the set. They told me that the set is now in the process of being pressed and boxed, and will be delivered soon. They weren't sure of the exact date, but said very soon.

Black Diamond author at KISS convention
    From: The KISS Asylum
Just wanted to thank everyone so far for their interest in BLACK DIAMOND 2!! Your enthusiasm has already made the first print-run of BD2 close to being a sell-out within three weeks of its premeire! The book is available at some stores around the country already, including Barnes & Nobles. As with the first book, ask at the front counter if you don't see it on the shelves. Most stores are still ordering one or two copies at a time and they may be able to order more through their distributor(s) if they don't have it available right then and there.

As a reminder, I will be attending the Chicago KISS Expo on November 9th with Steve Stierwalt, Jr. of KISS FREAKS and will be signing copies of both books there (and if you already have a copy, don't be afraid to come up with it for me to sign). Plus, the book-signing on December 6th at the Karma Records in Greenwood, Indiana (with Haley) is still on.

Unfortunately, it looks as thought I will NOT be able to make the Toronto KISS Expo on November 16th due to unexpected commitments. Things may change, but the chances are slim now. Sounds like a good expo, and I'm sorry I will have to miss it.

    KISS Kollector fanzine news
From: Joop / KISS Kollector Online
After a 2 months absence because of an unfortunate traffic accident with my motorbike, I'm finally back. Not much KISS news to report about at this very moment - just a few quick things...
First, the Carnival Of Souls album was released in Holland on Friday, October 24. Less than 4.000 copies were shipped to the record stores over here (for those of you who are into statistics: the population here is aprox 15.7 million) and there have been no reviews in the media as of yet.
Late September all the Remasters had come out in Holland (and I guess in the rest of Europe too). The biggest mistake I noticed in the credits in on Creatures Of The Night where it says "I Love It Loud" is written by PAUL STANLEY and Vincent Cusano (instead of GENE and Vinnie). I never noticed it before, but this same mistake is made on the original CD (on the LP's it's listed correctly).
The Remastered CD's are now also available on vinyl. Alive! is available on red, white and blue vinyl, it's my guess this goes for the other ones as well.
In Holland a Gold Award for the You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best can be ordered in record stores. It retails for about 600 Dutch guilders (this converts to aprox 300 US dollars).
Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer seem to be involved in Carmine Appice's new (second) Guitar Zeus project.
And to wrap things up for now: soon I will bring out another special Eric Carr tribute issue as part of my KISS Kollector fanzine (including an interview with Eric's sister Loretta), and you can now order the KISS Kollector "KISS Alive/Worldwide '96-97" Photospecial which is a 36 page look back at the reunion tour with lots and lots of incredible photos (mainly live shots, but also some exclusive backstage pix and pictures from press conferences around the world). This photospecial can be ordered by sending 15 Dutch guilders or 10 US dollars (or equivalent in any currency) to: KISS Kollector Fanclub; Photospecial; Herenweg 109; 1244 PZ Ankeveen; Holland.

    Tommy Thayer Speaks!
    From: Eric Helzer
I just got back from seeing the band Black N Blue in concert. They played a reunion show in their hometown of Portland Oregon Halloween night. As most of us know, Tommy Thayer,(Kiss's personal assistant), is the lead guitar player for the Black N Blue. Well, after the show I had the chance to talk to him about Kiss. He said that right now he is working on the home video. It is going to be a documentry of the reunion. He says it will have tons of live footage and backstage stuff from the tour. I also asked him about the new album. He said he has heard about five songs and that they are very much "classic" Kiss. I also asked him the million dollar question..." Is Bruce Fairbairn producing the album?" Tommy just winked at me with a sly grin and said " I cant say anything". All in all, Tommy was very cool and very willing to talk about Kiss. He said he loves working for Paul and Gene and that they treat him very well.
