"Dad, This Is Just Like The Videos!"
By: SubChurch1@aol.com

After sending in one submission, I thought after seeing the August 22nd show in Houston, I should make the effort and send in another. This is not a bitch, not a gripe nor a complaint of any kind. It is a thank you.

For almost two hours last night I got to watch my two sons stand on the edge of their chairs and watch four guys who, when I was their age, were super heroes. From the moment the curtain dropped until the last piece of confetti fell to the ground and the roadies began clearing off the stage, both of my sons were amazed. And the only words they could muster were, "Dad, this is just like the videos!"

But this thank you goes not only to Gene, Paul, Peter, and Ace. This thank you goes to Doc their manager. In a moment I have never ever seen in any concert I have attended, he showed me exactly what kind of man he was, and what exactly the fans both young and old meant to him and the band.

What happened was this. When my kids and I were making our way out of the pavillion after the show, Doc was standing by the mixing booth. Both of my kids (my youngest wearing Gene Simmons make up) passed by him still amazed at what they had just seen. Doc singled them out of the crowd we were in and called them over to the mixing booth. He gave them each guitar picks from Gene, Paul, and Ace. I thanked him and we walked on and left.

It didn't hit me until later exactly who it was when his face came to me in a flash after watching the Reunion tour video again. My kids wore their tour shirts to school proudly today as I did years ago. And they got made fun of just like dear old Dad did. But you know what? It didn't phase them a bit.

So I would like to say thank you to KISS, and to Doc for making a night that neither me or my sons will never, ever forget. So say what you will about Kiss sucks now, and pick apart their entire existence for whatever you might think it's worth. What I saw last night in Kiss was far and beyond any other rock and roll band imaginable.
