Well, We're Waiting.

After perusing the other "Sound Off!" essays, I decided to share a few random thoughts of my own. To begin with, I'd like to share my personal opinion on a subject that's been bothering me for awhile and that, to my knowledge, has never been publicly addressed. The issue is regarding Ace "pulling his weight" in KISS over the years.
Gene has mentioned before in past interviews of how Ace was so lazy and would hardly help out with contributing material to the band. Has anyone ever looked at the Dynasty & Unmasked album song credits? Ace Frehley was all over those albums. In my opinion, his songs were some of the best during that time frame and rocked harder than the sclock Mr. Simmons was putting out. Torpedo Girl has always been an overlooked KISS gem. Ace also contributed a good amount of material on the first few albums.
Kevin Potts spoke the truth in his "Sound Off!" essay: "Gene Simmons has become arrogant." Thank you, Kevin. I'm glad someone else has noticed. I get so tired of seeing recent "KISS" interviews and 99% of the time it's either Gene or Paul. I ask this simple question: "Would KISS (Gene or Paul) be as popular as they are today without Ace & Peter back in the picture?" The answer is a resounding, NO! I think history has proven that. Gene can thank Ace & Peter for helping put the filet mignon back on his plate instead of patting himself on the back so much. And I agree with Andy in his essay... the recent efforts KISS have been involved in haven't been quite up to par. Why? Because they're not concentrating on what they did best... music and a great show.
Kevin Potts also touched on Peter & Ace being disgruntled since the Psycho Circus album. Two questions pertaining to that: #1) How much were Ace & Peter allowed by Gene (and Paul) to participate on the album? #2) Wouldn't you be hacked off too if your material was given the boot to a song like "Within"? One might say that Ace's (or Peter's) material wasn't "good enough" or... was it due to one demon's arrogance and ego getting in the way? The truth may never be known.
I wish Gene (and everyone else in the band for that matter) would take his own words to heart. Words which he spoke on the U.S.S. Intrepid: "KISS is Ace, Peter, Gene & Paul." Get rid of all the overpriced & unneeded merchandise, get rid of the over-inflated egos, and work on giving your fans some good music. You said "the magic is back!" Well, where did it go? You say you give your fans what they want... well, we're waiting.
