Toronto Star Psycho Circus Review
"I pledge my allegiance to the state of rock 'n' roll," sings Paul Stanley on the first KISS record to feature the original lineup since 1979's Dynasty album. No wonder guitar rock is in a slump. Psycho Circus is not KISS's hoped for triumphant return to the glory days of the mid 70's when the group made raw hard-rock party anthems. Instead, Stanley, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Gene Simmons have recaptured attributes of the band's musical decline during the 80's: pedestrian riffs, frivolous bombast, unmemorable melodies and inane lyrics (such as "now it's time to take my place/the makeup running down my face/we're exiles from the human race.") To quote another cut: "Into the Void" is where this record deserves to go.
