Houston Chronicle Psycho Circus Review
Psycho Circus
KISS
Mercury
KISS fans rejoice: Your fave dudes have released the same album for, like, the 500th time.
There are no subtleties to Psycho Circus, and nothing new. You've got your clownish sub-Satanic cult rock with hilariously repetitive lyrics (the title cut). You've got your "sold-my-soul" anti-establishment growl (the immensely titled I Pledge Allegiance to the State of Rock & Roll).
You've got your prom-ready "babe, you're the best" power ballad (I Finally Found My Way). You've got your self-congratulatory "We Are the Champions" strut (Raise Your Glasses).
What else could you want? Well, there are some photos of the boys in their famous makeup, which by this time serves more to cover up 50 some odd years of hard livin' and lovin' rather than trying to be scary and stuff.
The CD cover features some kind of 3-D shape shifting thing so when you move it around it looks like a red curtain with "KISS" on it and then transforms into this big evil clown's head. Cool. Huh-huh, huh, huh, huh.
