From: Jacob Lagercrantz
"Iīll start off with the "song-by-song", and finish off with a conclusion:
Psycho Circus - I definitly like this. Maybe a little to "catchy" chorus, the chorus is the weak point in this song. The solopart sounds much like Destroyer I think this will grow on you when hearing it live. Rating 8/10
Within - Ok, itīs a bit "grunge-imitating", but the song is still very, very good. This is the "I am the demon" song of the album. Heavy Rocker. Rating 8/10
I Pledge Allegiance - A simple rocker, kinda Rockīnīroll Over style. Nothing special but still a good rocker. 6/10
Into The Void - Yes, Yes, Yes!!! Best Ace has done since Rocket Ride! (Iīm not a big fan of his 80īs stuff). A "party and have fun" rocker. Classic Kiss, Classic Ace. B.t.w. - he seems to have a tradition to "steal" Black Sabbath song titles! Love this song. Rate 9.5/10
We Are One - Ok. I like some of the melodys in it, but I hate the chorus. Itīs not as bad as Great Expectations but still one of the two throwaways on this album. Rate 4/10
You Wanted The Best - Why do they fuck up a good song with lyrics and chorus thatīs totally corny? It would have been great (the music still is) if they hadnīt these lyrics. Rate 6/10
Raise your glasses - Oh no! Is this a Hot in the shade song? Sounds like a Gillette-ad! The verses are ok. But the CHORUS!?!?! Rate 3/10
I Finally Found my way... - If you like Beth, youīll like this one. Ok, itīs probably a try to make a "new Beth", but itīs still a nice tune. Good ballad, not bad at all. Rate 6/10
Dreaminī- I relly like this one. A bit 80īs warning, but itīs 80īs at itīs best in that case. As good as a Power Ballad can be. Rate 7/10
Journey of 1000 years - YES! The album finishes off tremendously! This one is truly great. A suggestive dark, heavie and wonderfull tune. Rate 9/10
Final conclusion:
This album will definitly be worth buying. The best theyīve done since
"Creatures", no doubt.
(Well, Revenge comes pretty close). There are two real trowaways; "We
are one" and "Raise your glasses",
but even in the seventies there were usually one or two bad songs on
most albums. The good
ones make up for this more than well. Ace shows why Kiss isnīt the same
without him. I Would have
wanted more of his work on this. Iīll definetly buy the Jap version. A
cool thing is the return
of the Psycho-solo at the end. Very 70-ish! Buy it! I will!
