My quick thoughts on Psycho Circus and related events. But, first I have lived in Miami area for over a year now, and the rock stations suck. The only true rock station here is ZETA and they blow. The mainly play alternative with Metalica mixed in. No music scene exists here. Boy, I sure miss Dallas. Just wanted let you know that Kiss is not getting airplay down here for Psycho Circus. I heard on ZETA last week, a day DJ for station mentioning the Kiss song is the most requested, but the station answers by not playing the song. I live in music hell.
My Psycho Circus Review:
I have mixed emotions about the album. Have the tracks should not be on a Kiss album. Were these the best of supposedly 25 tracks? The criticism of Faibairn is justified with the overproduction on the album. PS is okay but could have been better. I know a lot of fans didn't like COS but the tracks Hate, In My Head, and It Never Goes Away seem to be much better choices than some of the tracks on Psycho Circus.
Track by track Review:
1) Psycho Circus- great track, best of the album. Need much more of this kind.
2) Within- good track, cool guitar riffs. The album is off to a great start. Excuse my use of the word "album", sounds more aproppiate than CD even though it is as CD.
3) Pledge Allegiance- this track should have stayed on one of their mid-eighties pop-rock albums.
4) Into The Void- Cool Ace riffs but chorus not the best of fits. Good song that could have been awesome.
5) We Are One- Very good song with quality lyrics. I may not be into this style but it is a good track if you need one of this type for an album.
6) Y Wntd Bst- Cool AC/DC riffs but chorus sucks. Song is okay.
7) Raise Your Glasses- Puzzling opener but great verse and riffs. However, the chorus blows and ruins the song. Throw this one away.
8) Found My Way- What the fu**. Has no place on this album. Toss it.
9) Dreamin- Fantastic chorus(lyrics and riffs). The main verse and riffs of the song are horrible. Had the chance to be a good song but ended up lousy.
10) Journey 1000- Again, could have been good. It definetely suffers from overproduction. It was ruined by doing so. Maybe if it had been kept simple it could have been a quality track. Toss it.
Final Thoughts: Keep tracks 1,2,4,5,6 and throw out the rest. Tracks 7-10 are the worst efforts I have every heard Kiss do. Even tracks off The Elder & Unmasked did not sink this low. Who is it fault the band or manager, or maybe both? I really got excited after hearing the first two tracks, then it was downhill from that point.
I am definetly looking forward to tour. Kiss always rocks live.
