O.K. did you read the other reviews? Are you hoping for a good review? Well Curley... THIS AINT IT!!!!!! Now before everyone jumps on me, I've been a hard core KISS fan since 1974, & I love the guys (Eric C.,Bruce, Eric S. Mark & even Vinnie [to a point] also), but this offering just doesn't cut it! Sorry. But anyways, on to the song by song run down.
Psyco Circus- O.K. here is our show opener. You have all heard this one
by now, it stands on its own, the hands down winner on P.C..
Grade: A-
Within- This is the most "Gene" like song on the album, imagine "Alomost
Human" turned down a few Demon notches.
Grade: C+
I Pledge Allegiance-HEY!! This makes my feet happy! I wanna Dance!
SOMEBODY SHOOT ME!!!! I'M AT A BON JOVI CONCERT!!!! Next!
Grade: D (too damn "poppy")
Into the Void- I've heard this before, ON EVERY ACE ALBUM! Are Gene &
Paul even on this one? This has got to be left over from Ace's "Twelve
Picks". Still, I like it.
Grade: A
We Are One- Someone call Ripley's Believe It Or Not! We have a Winner!
I like this song! In my opinion the best song on here. Gene doesn't
have to be a "Bad Ass" to kick ass! This song is the one that will
make or break this album.
Grade: A++
You Wanted the Best- Nice gimmic, they will do this one live. Each
member's lines are classic vocal samples, Peter's cool rasp, Ace's
"Shock Me" spacey sound, Gene's growel, Paul's "You know, I can really
belt 'em out" power blasts. Too bad the song isn't stronger.
Grade: B-
Raise Your Glasses- This one starts off sounding like Alice Cooper's
"Department of Youth"(cool song) and ends up another bad attempt to be
an anthem ala "Crazy Crazy Nights", then back to "Dept. of Youth", then
back to "Crazy Nights". Guys, PICK ONE!
Grade; D+ (the plus is for the "Department of Youth" parts!)
I Finally Found My Way- No Peter, You didn't. Aim for "Beth", hit "You
Are Always On My Mind" (You know, Willie Nelson?)
Grade: D-
Dreamin'- O.K.!!!! I love Alice Cooper, he is my second favorite next
to KISS of course. KISS must like him too because this one starts off
JUST LIKE "18"! The rest is Paul doing a song he could have gotten away
with on his solo tour.
Grade: C-(the minus is for not using more of the "18' riff)
Journey of 1,000 Years- I would have waited another year for a better
album! (Oogie, you were right!) Let's see, umm, Oh! the strings on this
one are O.K.
Grade: D
So there you have it! My opinion(& you know what they say about opinions!) I'm sorry! I really wanted to like this album. I've listened to it over 50 times and I do find something I like each time, but I also find things that just don't "trip my trigger" each time. I feel this album will end up played just about as often as my "No No No " single. I hope the tour is alot better than the album, but then again, I liked "Carnival of Souls" and going to the dentist!
