Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Kevin Drinan

The second of the two Fleet Center shows brought no major surprises, unfortunately, except the slight shakeup of the song order. Still, it was an excellent show that was every bit as good, if not better than the first night. Here's the set list:

1. Psycho Circus
2. Shout It Out Loud
3. Deuce
4. Do You Love Me
5. Firehouse
6. Shock Me
7. Let Me Go, Rock & Roll
8. Cold Gin
9. Calling Dr. Love
10. Into the Void - (Ace solo)
11. Makin' Love
12. God of Thunder
13. 100,000 Years
14. Within - (Peter solo)
15. I Was Made For Lovin' You
16. King of the Night Time World
17. Love Gun
18. Rock & Roll All Nite
----
19. Beth
20. Detroit Rock City
21. Black Diamond

Peter's solo has been moved once again (that's 3 different songs in 3 shows), and I like it there. All the new material sounded much tighter, especially "Within", which I thought went over very well. I'm still hoping they drag out at least one more from "Psycho Circus" on the tour. "Makin' Love" was even better than at Thursday's show, but Peter still needs to work on it a little, though.

I didn't like the way "Rock and Roll All Nite" was switched to close the set before the encores. It was a little anti-climactic, since it visually has more going on than "Black Diamond", with all the confetti, and Paul smashing his guitar. The drum riser went up during "Black Diamond", which I think is much better than in "Detroit". They still didn't use platforms, it seems they're out entirely.

Other interesting moments in the show: Ace broke a string in "Deuce", and was forced to improvise the solos in that song. He played a lot of the first solo in a lower octave, and the last one was more of an off-the-cuff solo. Also, when Paul introduced "Makin' Love", he again said "I think it's from Love Gun", but then followed with "Apparently it's from Rock and Roll Over??...but I could have sworn it was Love Gun".

There were a few glitches in the pyro department, as there had been the night before. There's a lot of fire and bombs in the show, so it's not surprising there were a few errors. Once again, there were a couple of 3-D images that hadn't been used before.

Well, there you have it. I don't know when I'll catch any more shows, but hopefully I'll have the chance to send in a few more reviews before the tour is over. Enjoy the shows!!
