Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: William K. Mahler

The opening band was getting booed at first where I was at. The singer looked like "Skreech" from Saved By The Bell the t. v. show. Then the band started to sound like old vocal style U2 with the Achtung Baby - Zoorapa era sound of U2.

KISS.

Oh, by the way, I did photograph the entire show and have 48 exposed exposures to have developed. If all goes correct, the pictures will be placed on various spots of my entire website. In order to find the pictures you will have to look for hidden links all over the entire website.

http://www.gis.net/~mahler. The photos will be ready by Sunday I hope.

Gene Simmons made his way over to Loge 11 long before the show dressed in the "Dyansty" era costume. On stage he wore his "Destroyer" era costume.

Psycho Circus

Shout It Out Loud

(When Paul said "Billy, you should be out singing", people all around me were turning their heads in my direction....:-))

Deuce (Sounded great)

Do You Love Me? (Paul really likes this song and the end is great too)

Let Me Go Rock And Roll (Much better than the L. A. show)

Shock Me (It seems that Ace was in sync with the crowd for at one point everyone sort of thought something and Ace changed his solo or just made an error in response.)

Within (That song live lacks the overall dynamics and effort put forth in the studio version.)

Firehouse (Tonight the beginning of this song played by Paul was a big floundering mess just like Let Me Go Rock And Roll was in L. A.)

Calling Dr. Love (Perhaps the best version I have ever heard of this song live.) Making Love (Perhaps Paul Stanley was really not into this song so much even though he was telling the fans it was a special suprize song. Nice even though the show had only 21 songs.)

Cold Gin (Was hoping to see the hand slap during the mid point of this song that Ace Frehley sang almost all of. As Gene or Ace did leave the first line to be sang by the audience, Ace sang all but the last chorus of the song. Gene finished.)

King Of The Nightime World (Paul was clearly not singing to great here at all. In fact many times during the show, it was as if the group was merely stating the words to the lines and still in sync with the music.)

Into The Void (The guitar solo was great. Ace singing this song sings it as if he is also making a word by word diary of his state of mind from who knows when.) Ace Frehley Guitar Solo

100,000 Years (This sounded o. k.. The "Alive!" version is always going to be my favorite. Paul only asked if we all felt all right twice. Lots of flames during the answers.)

Gene Simmons Bass Solo (Nice and messy, the way it ought to be. I mean the blood feast he had on many of people. The actual bass solo really was more like imitations of a rumbling stomach and gas in the intestines.)

God Of Thunder (The band paid more attention to this song and it had that real good demon like quality to the overall sound as the song was even slower than the "Alive II" version.)

Peter Criss Drum Solo (Peter Criss was front and center high above the audience and over the first dozen rows. Nice and neat solo with no flaws at all.) God Of Thunder

I Was Made For Loving You (Paul changed the overall guitar performance that he plays throughout the entire song. His vocals were o. k..)

Love Gun (Nice to see the man takes his personal roots and brings the dance of it to the small stage that was directly in front of me. The audience of all ages was singing the chorus the entire way through as KISS just listened.)

Detroit, Rock City (Awesome version tonight!)

Beth (Peter did the best version I have ever heard save for the original and "Unplugged" version.)

Black Diamond (Great vocals from Peter again.)

Rock And Roll All Night (Paul told us we would all see something really awesome. Some woman with long curly brown hair was up front and topless. When the video screen had the picture, all Peter could say was "no shit". The vocal interlude was hurried.)

As for the photos I took well, there is plenty of fire and blood and some great shots even though I was sitting on the side two rows up from the floor. KISS performed for 2 hours and overall the show was o. k.. All the sound glitches and all those other glitches would be best to be worked out with intensive practice as soon as possible. No doubt about it, someone did video tape this show from the audience. Anyone walking around with a silver suitcase that is thick no doubt has some serious intent of copying a show sometime soon.
