Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: C.D. & Rebecca A. Bailey

Well, let me start off by giving some background info to set this all up. I have been a Kiss fan for about 20 years and this is only my second kiss show. The first show I saw was the reunion tour in Roanoke VA and this one makes the second. I think the psycho circus tour will appeal to the following types of fans: Fans who have never seen a kiss show before, fanatics who like Kiss no matter what and fans who can just appreciate a good show.

This particular show was very good, but it seems to have lost some of the zip that the reunion tour had. I don't know if it was due to the fact that the last tour was my first time seeing kiss, or that this show just wasn't quite as good.

Now I will break down my observations on each performer: Paul...always the professional, really seemed to care about the show and doing his best to make it enjoyable. His singing was superb and as always he finds a way to entertain even when not singing. Pauls performance was top notch as always. Ace.....his playing was just superb. I thought he played better on this tour than the last. His riffs and his solos were just fantastic. His performance was really a show stealer. Gene...I thought Gene sang very well on everything except for within. I just don't think within is a good live song. Gene seemed to be just a little bit less animated and pumped than usual for some reason. Gene's performance was still good though overall. Peter...I have read allot of reviews about peter on this tour and made it a point to pay attention to him. I hate to admit it, but the negative reviews have been pretty much on the mark. Peter is just going through the motions as this point. He doesn't look to be enjoying at all what is going on. On the last tour he was very animated and into the show. I regret to say, he didn't look like he was really into this one. His performance over all was fair. He didn't screw anything up that I noticed, he just was not giving the extra mile we are accustomed to as kiss fans.

Pyro: There didn't seem to be as much as in the last tour, but this may be due to the fact that Charleston is a smaller venue. The pyro seemed to work on time and everything, but it just seemed to be on a smaller scale.

3D: Well, it works but it is not mind-blowing or anything. It is a nice addition, but nothing spectacular. If you have been to kiss shows thousands of times before and was planning on going to this show solely for the 3d, I would say not to go.

Special things: Gene...Of course the blood spitting and the fire breathing was great. His flying on god of thunder didn't seem to work on time. He raised his hands a couple of times withought anything happening. Finally on the third time it worked. Paul...Paul flew out into the crowd and sang love gun which was very nice. This seemed to work great and was a very nice touch. Ace...Everything ace did was great including the smoking guitar and shooting the pyro...Peter....His set lifting and all was pretty good. Just nothing spectacular...

Sound: I thought the show sounded very good. It was nice and loud and yet not too distorted.

Stage: The stage was much smaller than the last tour, but again this may be due to the venue.

Overall: Overall this was a very good show. Like I said at the top, I recommend it mostly for those who have never seen kiss and kiss fanatics. Would I pay to see them again? Yes, but in a larger venue. I think this had allot to do with me being just a little disappointed. Of course the cynic me can find something wrong with anything regardless of how good it is. So I would have to say it was well worth the price of admission. Feel free to respond with your comments on this show.
