Well, it's KISS, so there is nothing to expect but an awesome show, & they certainly delivered!!! My seats weren't as good for this one as they were for the other shows I went to, (Lexington, & Columbus), but everything was still great. (I even had to run down to the floor after the show, & scoop up an armful of the confetti to take home with me). I was one section out from the stage on Ace's side in row P. Not the best seats in the house, but we were about eye level with one of the 3-D screens, & the 3-D effects looked great. After going to 3 shows, & sitting in 3 different locations, I think that is the best position to view the 3-D from. One BIG thing occurred at the show, & it was right after R&RAN. The arena was dark, & the 3-D morph of the faces had just ended. Just then, all the little A$$holes decided to shine their little laser pointers at the 3-D screens. It seemed like an eternity in the darkness, (much longer than the breaks at the other shows), & I thought "Oh great these jackasses have ruined the show. Now KISS won't come back on stage" I was damn worried. But then, the opening notes to Beth began, & Peter came out & sang the song. Gene, Paul, & Ace then took their bows, & then Paul said the following: (almost a direct quote) "You know, I don't really like to make threats, but it looks like we have some 12 year olds in the audience who have never been to a concert before. I'll make this short because I know your mom is coming to pick you up from the concert. If you think you're big & bad, if you think you're man enough, come on down here, & I'll shove that laser so far up your ass, you'll choke on it!!!!" I cheered my head off at that (I hate those jackasses with the laser pointers, too!!) For the remainder of the show, I didn't see a single laser.
The set was the same as the past few shows. I didn't notice any technical difficulties, & the pyro went off as usual. (speaking of which, it still cracks me up everytime I hear someone say "Whoa he just shot that light off!!" when Ace shoots the rocket into the air). They looked & sounded great, although Within didn't sound all that great, but I'm not one of those picky people, I'm a member of the KISS Army through & through, so as long as KISS is on the stage, I'm happy.
I just have to tell you about this, it is just too cool. My girlfriend, & I arrived at the arena at 6 PM. A radio station was broadcasting live from inside the arena, & said that KISS was doing a closed door soundcheck with no makeup on. Well, we walk in this back door of the arena, (I guess it was like a rec area for the college students on campus or something, it had all these basketball courts & stuff). Anyway, we walk in, & we hear them playing Let Me go Rock & Roll. I guess they were practicing it real hard because at the Lexington show there was a major problem with it. They kept stopping, & starting, & you could hear Gene giving comments, & things. We were some of the only people down there, along with the caterers, & a few others. Then, after a while, they started playing Detroit Rock City, & Paul was singing the words real slow & making up lyrics. It was really cool the hear these guys just messing around, & talking to each other. I will always remember that.
I have to say I am disappointed with the fans on this tour. This was my third show on the tour, & if I added all the people wearing makeup together, I probably wouldn't even break 3 digits. I know you don't have to wear makeup to be a true fan, & not all true fans wear makeup, but the reunion tour was packed with people wearing makeup, & on this tour, hardly anyone does. ( by the way, look at my reviews of other shows for more examples of this kind of behavior). I made a point to walk around before the show & look for people with makeup, & it was a hard process. Maybe it's just the fans in this area, but it seems like most of the people there are people who don't really care about the band, & just heard they put on a good show. Hardly anyone in my whole damn section at this concert moved a single muscle during the show. WHAT THE HELL????? Hey people, if you're not into the music, or if you're not going to cheer, then go the hell home, because the real fans don't need you there.
Overall, it was another great show from the best band in the land. Econoline Crush sounded great, (no, they're not a local band, I believe the song "Surefire" is currently being played on the radio), & after hearing them 3 times, I liked them enough to but their CD & t-shirt pack at the souvenir stand. (Great CD). KISS sounded awesome, (as if there was any doubt), & if there's anyone wondering whether or not to go see this tour, the answer is a resounding "HELL YES!!!!!" I hope they return to this area soon.......... KISS FOREVER
