Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Frank Briskie

Just got back, so let me give you my two cents.

Started at 9:00. Ended at 11:08

First of all, let me cover the "3D" aspect. Believe it or not, it works. As I expected, a lot of it was just pre-recorded clips, many of which are from the Psycho Circus video. However, they were also able to add 3D to the live shots as well. It was very cool! The only real problem was their use of it. They'd use it for 30-60 seconds, and then it wouldn't be used again for 3-5 minutes. It was really kinda annoying taking the glasses on and off. As far as I'm concerned, they could present the whole thing in 3D. When they did use it, IT WORKED!

Secondly, the set list needs work. Speaking as someone who saw them 3 times on the last tour, I was really disappointed. True, there are a lot of songs that they just CAN'T take out of the set, but I really wish they would mix things up. Christine, Mr. Speed, Plaster, Hotter, Rocket, etc. would all have been a welcome change of pace. I wish they had done a few more from the new CD (Pledge, Raise, YWTB, We Are 1). I REALLY love KISS, but I'd like to see some different stuff.

The rest of the show was really pretty good for a first night. Ace's guitar wouldn't catch on fire, the lights were a little off, and the cameras were a little blurry, but I'm sure all those things will improve. Peter's solo was visually appealing, but kinda lame. G, P & P's riser was also kinda weak. They rose, played a bunch of power chords, and came back down. Huh????

With regards to attendance, while there were many empty seats, I know that this being held on Halloween really screwed up many of us who have children. I had several close friends who would have gone, but couldn't work it out around their family. I'd bet if they had it on Friday, it would have sold out.

Overall, they seemed to be in good spirits. The sound was very good from where I was sitting. The projection screens were very large and clear! When Peter sang "Paul's got you under his thumb", Paul sang "Yes I do!" :-) The fireworks at the end were INCREDIBLE!!! Saw Doc McGhee towards the end, and he was all smiles. I sure hope FOX's coverage helps them sell some CDs, which will help get the video played, which will help sell CDs, which will help sell tickets, etc. Come on guys, just mix things up a little more, and you'll keep filling the seats!!!!
