`Let me begin by saying that I'm a 35 yr old die hard who has seen " The Boys" too many times to count, and never thought that the feeling or the magic would ever ebb... with that said , saying I'm a little disappointed would be an understatement!
My main complaint was the pace of the shows. It starts of very strong,Psycho Circus, Shout it out loud, get the crowd on they're feet and give you the adrenaline ruch we've all come to expect. Then, something very unexpected happens. By the end of Let Me Go, Rock n Roll, The whole upper level is sitting down. SITTING DOWN!! The songs tempo is way too slow and both nights, they seemed to have alot of trouble with timing. More so at the Meadowlands. The much touted 3-D effects are great at first, But get old in a hurry. How many times can you see Paul or Ace, stick a guitar in your face without saying "OK guys, lets see something else." In they're defense I will say that there are still the usual highlights to the show, but on this tour, they seemed few and far between. During the Philly show, I found myself looking at my watch on a few occations. The show just kind of plodded along.
The Meadowlands show song tempos were a litlle better but the overall pace of the show was the same. I have never, in the 20 odd years of seeing KISS, seen them lose a crowd,But that's exactly what happened. By the time they closed the main set with Rock n Roll All Night, which, by the way is another sore spot, Paul was scolding the crowd. Not in the usual playfull way either. " Hey, I wanna tell you people over here something. You paid for the ticket so you can do whatever you want but this is gonna be our last song so get off your ass and have a good time"! Amazing, half the crowd was sitting, and a larger than normal number of people were leaving! This is not The KISS spectacle I've come to expect. The only thing that saved it for me was the fact that I had my 8 yr old mega KISS fan son with me, And even he was'nt blown away the way he should have been. It may just be time to face the fact that the magic is gone, unfortunately.
In closing I'd like to make a Public Service Announcement. For all the folks who think it would be really cool to bring your laser pointers to the show. To paraphrase Paul Stanley, They may be funny and cool to piss off your 6th grade teacher with, but leave them home and shine 'em in your own eyes.
