Well, it's been nearly a month since I saw the show, but I don't have a computer and this is my first chance to write a review. I've seen KISS in 1979, 1983, 1996 and this tour. The first major drag were the mic problems. The musicianship was all around tight, though the room was mic-ed so badly (it's a rather shitty place to see a show) it was tough to hear the lead parts. The first 2/3 of the show I was standing about 15 feet away from the stage, and the bass and drums really drowned out the guitars. My wife's legs were getting tired and so we moved up in the stands at a right angle to the stage on Ace's side.
The 3-D stuff was cool, though I didn't need the screen to tell me when to take the glasses off. Peter's solo was good; kind of a mix of the ones from Alive and Alive II. The song list was pretty much the same as the '96 show. Only five songs were different. I wished they played more songs from Psycho Circus. Why aren't they playing "You Wanted the Best..." ? That is the best Kiss single in years.
Paul was great; he's a great host and showman. Ace was less animated than in '96. I think he wasn't feeling good or something. He also woofed out the introductions of his songs without much else. Like, "Let's take a trip.... INTO THE VOID!" Gene was strong vocally, especially on "Within." I think it's a good song for the drum solo. I really kind of like that song, too. Gene does need to lose weight, though.
Overall, it was a good show. RARAN was great; tons of confetti and streamers. I did want to hear different songs than last time. Missing in Action: Strutter, Hotter than Hell, Nothin' to Lose, Mr. Speed, Almost Human, Rock Bottom, Makin' Love, I Was Made For Lovin' You and Rockin' In The USA. Ace should also sing more on Cold Gin like the reunion show. I felt it was a good show. I'm glad my wife went with me. Thankfully, there were no laser-pointing a-holes.
They should also do an acoustic version of Beth; they can actually play it now, so why not?
If you can check out this show, do it.
