Since people have sent in there stories about KISS in Omaha (Dec 16th), I thought I'd share my story of battling the winter elements and a 15 hour drive to Detroit to spend New Years Eve with my Favorite band KISS!
My son (age 11) and I drove from Omaha, Nebraska to Detroit in the worst weather I've ever driven in, but it was worth it. Opening act Caroline Spine was good, but I thought Omaha's opener, Econoline Crush connected with the crowd better. KISS went on around 10:30pm and did basically the same show as Omaha but with twice the pyro, Gene flew this time, and they seemed to just have alot more fun with each other in Detroit. Ringing in the new year with the clock on the screens was cool.
Other than the show it self, the event had a couple disappointments. The 3-d glasses should have had Detroit Rock City or Happy New Year printed on them like Dodger Stadium did. Also, a special Happy New Year Detroit shirt should have been made and party favors could have been given out at the gates. For a ticket price of $100.00, some extras should have been thrown in!
The show didn't sell out, but you could tell it was true KISS ARMY members in attendence. The costumes in the crowd rocked. There was a guy(I think?) who came as Eric Carr, and if you saw him in the crowd and didn't know Eric was dead, you would swear it was him, right down to the Dynasty costume!
We made it back to Omaha in one piece battling more crappy weather, and I haven't stopped talking about it to my friends or the listeners of my radio show!!!
